Where should I start, then? With bards?

Ah, well, that's simple enough. To perform a piece together, the performers must listen to each other and work together to create that music. The experience itself can be enjoyable- and listening seems to bring people together just as much.

There can't be that much to sing about.

You might just be surprised. There are plenty of songs about love, naturally, but then there are work songs- of which shanties form a part, song for any number of occasions and rituals, ballads, and lullabies.

Work songs. So basically people will jsut sing about whatever it is they are dong?

[ But why? And who would want to listen to that? ]

That's part of it, but not necessarily all. Some are more of a narrative, some to keep tedium at bay, and keep everyone in tune.

Huh?

[ Thancred you're talking in a language that doesn't make any sense. Someone sings just to keep people singing correctly? ]

It's a little like this…

[He starts clapping out a rhythm, lightly to start, and slowly building up before he begins a song in full- now comes a sailor from the sea- continuing on into the chorus.]

[ Vanitas sure is taken aback. He watches Thancred, expression growing blank and confused. What... What is going on here? What is happening? ]

[He keeps up the rhythm, but he's watching Vanitas. After a few more moments, he speaks- foot tapping.] Would you like to join in?

Join in?

[ What on Earth do you mean by that, Thancred? ]

To sing along with me.

No...

I definitely can't sing.

No…? Well, if you ever decide you would like to, you can always contact me. Perhaps- would there be something else you were interested in, then?

Like what? More hobbies? I can't say I have any of those.

No? Then, would there be something you would be interested in taking up?

I don't even remotely know.

[ Come on, Thancred. You should know he hasn't had a childhood or a chance to explore these things. ]

Hm. Then perhaps we need to pick a place to start- music, or some other form of entertainment?

[well, maybe it's as good a time as any to start?]

Entertainment?

[ Thancred. Boy is just short of living underneath a literal rock here. ]

Plays, or- perhaps not that. [There's still a ban in place, isn't there?]. All right. What about books? Or- are there any tasks you've taken that you enjoyed?

[ Even if there isn't a ban... Van probably wouldn't be able to appreciate a play. ]

I read whatever is at the library. And I don't mind going to classes.

Everything? Ah, well, that's good to hear. Learning's an important thing to do.

[ Well uh. Time for another bit of truth? ]

It's all I do.

[That gets a considering look- and while of course he's all for taking studies seriously, that's still concerning.]

You don't get into trouble, at all?

Not actively. Despite appearances and alignments, I am fine not creating problems for others. In this situation it would be too problematic to deal with.
