[ The unprecedent snowstorm turned out to be a lot of work and worry. Helping keep rooftops from collapsing, streets from filling, and shades from wrecking too much havoc... If he wasn't a skeleton already, Papyrus might have worked himself to the bone. But he's already a skeleton, and his bones didn't mind the cold as he worked outside. His new patches of skin do, but thankfully they're covered in enough fur to manage.
With the arrival of the full moons, he's sporting a good deal more fur. Like all monsters Papyrus shifts to a more monstrous form as the moons turn, and as a turnskin his altered form is more animalistic. His is even more than most, as he changes to an outright skeletal wolf on the full moons, with the redbrown fur thickening all down his spine from head to tail.
And, like the other times he's shifted, his mindset has gone far more to the dogs. Emotions linger and echo in the canine's mind. He's enthusiastic with energy to spare, between relief at not being sick, and his bond supporting him. The snow is familiar in a way that's comforting, comfortable for jumping in. If monster instincts were easy, he could happily roll about being a dog.
Unfortunately it's not that simple, and lingering worry clings with him. He snaps at encroaching strangers, especially monsters, as he roams about. There's something unsafe about being alone, without friends to protect or be protected by. When he smells someone familiar, he beelines in that direction, following his skeletal snout. ]

Granted, Vanitas has mentioned to Thancred about getting the Flood a collar and leash. And he hadn't been joking. In fact, that is exactly what Vanitas is setting himself to do today.
Unfortunately, said Flood is not cooperating at all. The moment that it can get out the door, it takes off. Maybe Vanitas should be more concerned, but well. That Flood is just doing what Floods do. It's seeking out others that are irritated or experiencing other negative emotions. That is, after all, what the creature is meant to do and feed upon. So by the time Papyrus catches the scent? More than likely the Flood is attempting to tick someone else off.
Probably by stealing food or a scarf. ]

Recently shifted turnskins are, after all, tired and hungry as a rule. Papyrus had a bit of a laydown before heading on the streets, a nap in his little den of blankets and pillows. And he'd nibbled at food he'd left - intentionally - in easy reach of the nap area. But he's still hungry. And from here, the combination of familiar-smelling person and food promises the perfect combo:
They could share the food.
It's with these notions in mind that the mostly-skeletal wolf takes in the sight of the Flood, in the process of stealing food from someone who's loudly unhappy about it. Their outrage and a bit of fear - the Flood vaguely resembles some of the Shades - rings out in their voice and smell alike. But the food smells delicious, and they could always go get more.
Papyrus approaches, ears up, circling around to check how the Flood reacts to his presence. Do they mind? Will they share? He could help. ]

It isn't as thought the creature can grow stronger by feeding off of people and their emotions, though it still seems to enjoy being around them. However this time food takes priority. Without being able to feed off of emotions, apparently actual food has taken over that need.
When Papyrus shows up, the Flood puffs up again. It is ready to fight, if only because it has no idea what this bony dog-like thing wants. Is he a threat? An enemy? Someone after what it's already taken? ]

So far he's sure of a couple things: that's not a Shade, for one. It smells familiar somehow - not as familiar as a packmate friend, but not as someone he's snapped at before, either. Just someone met in passing?
He gives a low, questioning whine. The food is right there, can't they share? If not... maybe the Flood will leave some, if he startles it.]

What it can understand, however, is when something isn't presenting itself as a threat. Thus it stills, also waiting. Wanting to know what this monster is planning on doing. What does it really want here? What is its purpose?
Though Papyrus should be warned: the moment any thoughts begin to trail more towards negative ones, the Flood will be able to pick up on it. Thinking of startling it will likely be a good way to gain its attention. ]

Unfortunately for him, the notion that the Flood is empathic or telepathic? It's just not going to cross his mind.
Instead, Papyrus becomes more settled on his plan - take part of the food. He focuses on being friendly, ears perking a little bit up, and his tail begins to slowly wag behind him with anticipation. When he thinks the Flood is convinced - whether or not it's responding in any positive way - he leaps near them, hoping to startle them into dropping the food so he can grab part of it and dart a little ways away.]
