[ Standing at the edge of the lake... Lavi might be unnerved by things like ghosts and vampires ( which is super ironic all things considering ), but Vanitas? It's most definitely water. It's partially because he has no idea how to swim.

Being so close is making him uneasy. ]

You're the one that was interested in this. What did your research tell you about what to do?

[Vanitas, how do you not know how to swim?]

We're supposed to meet the ghost who protects this place and get around her long enough to be able to get a pearl.

[Pause.]

Not that--I want to fight her.

[Especially since she can't be exorcised apparently.]

[darkcharge]

[ Excuse you. He's lived his life in a wasteland. What opportunity would there have been to learn! ]

So obviously one of us distracts her and then the other should go get the pearl.

[ A shrug. ]

Distraction doesn't have to mean fight.

Alright...

[He nods slowly.]

So--wanna be the distraction while I get the pearl?

[It'll help with both of their phobias.]

[ Vanitas looks towards the water. Getting a pearl requires getting his feet wet doesn't it? Might have to go into deep waters.

There is a rather pregnant pause before Vanitas answers. ]

Sounds fair to me.

[lostinshadows]

[It works out for them both.

And just in time too as mist begins to gather around them. It has Lavi tensing up, the fur on his body bristling and he just...slides off to the side, taking off his jacket so that it doesn't weigh him down.]

Counting on you then, Vanitas!

[darkcharge]

[ He can see Lavi reacting to the mist that's starting to rise up. The temperature is also dropping, to the point where Van can see his breath. Now he doesn't quite have the same response that his bondmate does. Vanitas isn't really afraid or nervous. ]

So what? I just wait for this thing to show up and start talking?

[ And then how does he talk? Hi, how are you? By the way we want one of your pearls? ]

Pretty much.

[He edges closer to the water.]

Oh--one thing. Apparently the Coven said you gotta be honest with it since it might ask some very personal questions.

[darkcharge]

[ Personal questions? One has to be honest? Then it sort of dawns on Vanitas. ]

You want me to talk that way you get to keep all your nasty secrets.

[lostinshadows]

Nothing like that.

[He edges closer to the water.]

I really don't want to talk to ghosts.

[darkcharge]

You really don't want to talk to ghosts that would force you to be honest.

[ Nope. Not letting Lavi wiggle out of this one. ]

Just be thankful that I don't practice outright lying.

[Vanitas why.

He just inches more towards the water.]

We can always switch places if you think it's a problem. The water feels nice.

[All you have to do is just dive in and swim.]

[ He just offers a too casual shrug. Is the temperature getting lower? ]

Never said we had to do that. I am just commenting on how convenient it is for you.

[It's definitely getting colder.

It's making his fur bristle.]

Life's full of surprises.

[ Okay but when is this thing going to show up? It's kind of getting spooky, even if it doesn't really unnerve Van. ]

What kind of answer is that?

An answer.

[That's all you need to know.

But before long, she finally appears before Vanitas and Lavi takes that as his cue to start swimming.]

[ Yeah? Lavi needs to hurry. Vanitas isn't certain what this little ghost is going to be like.

What is she going to say? What if Van doesn't answer correctly? ]

[Lavi is off swimming!

The ghost appears in front of Vanitas, her misty eyes seemingly staring at him--or through him.]

What is your desire, being riven from the light?

[darkcharge]

[ Good thing Vanitas isn't actually intimidated? The question given to him, however, is pretty easy. He huffs. ]

That's all you're going to ask? My desire is to be whole.

[ That hasn't changed. Never has that changed. However his reasoning might have. Just a little. ]

[She stares at him.

Keep it up, Vanitas. Lavi will be back soon!]

Because who only wants to be half of a whole? It's a miserable existence.

[ Well hurry it up Lavi! ]

Does it pain you to be only half of who you once were? Is it painful to be split between darkness and light?

[Nah, you got it.]

[ Okay but for real. Hurry it up. Vanitas isn't liking these questions at all. ]

It was until somewhat recently.

[ Because he can be who he is right now. Vanitas doesn't need Ventus to be himself. It's a lesson that could only be taught away from the situation. ]
