quest: FORGET-ME-NOT
wearing some gardening gloves and having changed into a cheap pair of trousers bought earlier that day for such the occasion (though no outerwear, despite the cold), Gon simply wraps his face in one of his pillowcases as he leans far into the brush to extract some of the flowers. it's difficult for sure, but Gon manages to eventually pull some up with success without having to do anything extreme like cut away bramble.
he does, however, end up bit towards the end by one of the little white foxes. despite Gon's screams (initially surprise, then pain), he successfully shakes the fox loose and seems okay! he looks a bit disheveled as he carefully wraps what flowers he managed to grab, a couple of twigs and a some leaves stuck in the coarse stalk of his hair. while packing up, Gon carefully wiggles his garden glove off.
and he blinks, crouched before his backpack, holding his hand out as he spreads his fingers apart and flexes them. the action causes some blood to seep from the bite site on his hand, which appears to already be bruising.]
Wow, it actually got through the glove...
[Gon lowers his hand to look at the back of it, eyebrows lifting as his dark, fuzzy ears flip up in earnest curiosity.]
Good bite force for something so little...
no subject
It's the other boy's screams that have Sora jumping up straight, long rabbit ears picking upwards.]
Gon?!
[He comes over with concern in his eyes. He does glance at the staring little fox and then back at Gon.]
Uh, are you okay? Did it bite you?
no subject
[Gon blinks curiously, looking around when he hears his name. a familiar sounding voice...
when Sora approaches, Gon's body language perks up; he straightens, shoulders lifting as his eyes widen, his dark bovine ears flipping up in Sora's direction.]
Sora! Are you doing quest stuff, too?
[he glances at his hand, then flexes his fingers again.]
Uh huh, he bit me. But I'm okay!
[he beams up at Sora, laughing.]
I'm really tough, and I heal super quick. I was just surprised.
no subject
Yeah, I'm working on getting some of these flowers picked and moved. You too, huh?
[The bite mark looks okay...?? Sora tilts his head anyway.]
Do you think there's a lot of those little guys around here? It might make picking flowers a bit harder to do. You sure you're okay?

quest: FRUIT ANTLERS
he'd spent hours carefully, quietly stalking the rare albino bucks whose antlers bear what appears to be fruit—which is certainly strange (maybe it's a colloquialism and not literal fruit?), but Gon's seen stranger. what's difficult is that the bucks are already a bit skittish, because Gon's likely not the only one to have hunted them. and further, they're a mite aggressive by now, and powerful besides. so Gon's been focusing on dimming his presence, biding his time patiently—the whole time, devising ways to carefully remove the fruit without hurting the buck, lest he poison himself. he knows that the animal will move wildly when Gon finally has the right opportunity to literally leap on its back, so he has to find a way to center his core and his own strength to remove the fruits..
eventually, with some strife, Gon does indeed succeed—and he bolts, clutching his backpack, now full of fruit after managing to get a few of the deer in the span of about 8 hours. he's now running with a frantic quickness, one of the angry, territorial freshly-plucked bucks chasing furiously at Gon's heels.]
STILES
Worse Dragon.
Gon doesn't know too much about that kind of thing, nor is he interested to know, but he at least understands it's a store for adults—unsavory in that way, but knowing no other particulars. makes sense they'd want an aphrodisiac, but Gon, all the same... doesn't want to get too close. shoot. he hadn't really thought about how to actually bring the goods to the shop without actually going in...
feeling more than a little awkward, Gon manages to get the nerve enough to knock firmly on the front of the door.]
Um, hello! I have some items to sell, [Gon calls, fishing a quest receipt from his sign up out of his pocket (giving him a good excuse not to have to look through the windows), eyes scanning for details. Gon blinks, leaning his head back a little in surprise.]
For..."Stiles"...?
[...was that a common name in other worlds, or]
no subject
Hold on, hold on, [ he calls back loudly, fighting down a yawn, ] I can’t hear anything you’re saying.
[ The moment he opens the door, it becomes immediately obvious why their visitor didn’t enter the store; it’s just a kid. Stiles is relieved that the anti-minor spells didn’t have an opportunity to go off – those things are annoying as hell to listen to as they screech bloody murder at the underaged intruder. ]
Uh, hi. You lost, kiddo?
no subject
Nope!
[Gon holds out the receipt for Stiles to inspect, which, of course, has Gon's name signed on it as someone who took the task to get the antler fruit. simultaneous to this, Gon shrugs his shoulder so that his bag swings off his back and in front of his belly, intending to open up the bag once Stiles takes the receipt to inspect Gon's business.]
I didn't realize you were the one who put up that quest bulletin; I didn't look at the name until now! We talked on the network. Little bit of a funny way to meet you in person...

Gon may not have noticed him yet, since he's been so preoccupied with gathering fruit and Soren hasn't been here for very long. but it's easy to notice Gon when he's stirring up such a commotion. even his deer were startled and scattered...
well, that's annoying. more importantly, but perhaps even more annoying, is that the young faun over there could be in serious trouble. Soren doesn't have an altruistic bone in his body, but even he doesn't want to see a kid get mutilated by a wild animal. or worse, blinded. he doesn't leap haphazardly into action, observing the situation before deciding how to best avert the crisis. grabbing the sprinting faun seems too difficult at any angle without risking himself, so if he can't rescue the kid, he may just have to wrangle the deer.
...or scare it.
Soren leaps from the copse of trees and toward the clearing where their chase has taken them, landing a ways before their path but not directly before it. The compact little dragon boy with long dark hair and striking red eyes bursts into a whitish blue light and explodes into a giant winged lizard at least ten times his size, and standing erect on his hind legs. the buck practically flips over in its mad bid to dart the other way, willing to chase down a runty faun, but not when something that looks like an apex predator suddenly stands in the way.]
no subject
despite his being miffed, Gon is certainly awed by the display. he blinks, straightening from his surprised stagger at Soren's sudden appearance, mouth slightly going agape in wonder.]
Wow... So cool!
[Gon rubs the back of his neck.]
I was gonna be okay, though; you didn't have to go out of your way like that...
no subject
I would hardly call that going out of my way. For how long were you planning on running away like that, then?

2ND/3RD WEEK OF AUGUST:
but aside from Gon's mundane flora adventures, he's also been up to...developing some bad leg pain. nothing he can't soldier through, being incredibly resilient and stubborn that he is. but it's been getting uniquely difficult.
and it's today that suddenly, while steadily making his way up an incline that Gon's legs just suddenly give out beneath him. he hollers, startled, and sort of gracefully tumbles backwards, through various bramble and down many rocks. his backpack and fishing rod are flung someplace, and his watch some other place. grumbling, Gon pushes himself up, then scowls at his legs to give them a tender, RESENTFUL!! rub.]
Ugh... Jeez, what the heck is wrong with my body?
[he pushes himself into a sitting position, still scowling angrily at his legs, and tries to stand. he achieves some wobbly success, but ends up bracing himself against a young tree nearby. Gon hangs his head with an exasperated, loud groan.]
Augh, dang it!
[he has to at least gather his stuff; as it is, he can't even contact anyone right now! he's gotta find his watch...]
Stupid legs!! Work, or I'll break you myself! This sucks!
no subject
As she makes her way towards the incline, something suddenly zips past her, barely missing the merrow. Stunned in place, she turns her head slowly and sees the fishing rod on the ground.
....A direct attack?!
No, no. Obviously no one was going to actually fling a fishing rod at her. It doesn’t look broken, she thinks after picking it up. There also seems to be a few other things lying on the ground from where it came from. One by one, like a short trail of bread crumbs, she gathers these items until she’s close enough to hear someone’s voice. ]
Is someone ther—- Oh my god, are you alright?!
[ The sight of the child has Alex scrambling up to where he is, placing the backpack (she’s put the stuff back inside) in her arms down as she looks him over. ]
Where does it hurt? Did you twist or break anything?
no subject
but whatever, he's of no use to anyone in this state, now is he? thankfully, it seems like this nice lady managed to collect his stuff...]
Um, I don't think so! My legs have just been hurting kinda badly for the last few days... They just suddenly gave in... Thanks so much for getting my stuff together.

Where were you headed?

Reason or no, outside of the city's far easier to run in without dodging foot traffic or buildings. But it's when he's deciding to return to Aefenglom proper when he hears someone holler, and though he wouldn't be able to help very much if they were being attacked by Shades or something (here?? in the farmlands?), he's possessing of the ethics to at least check to see what the matter is. The Puca halts at the top of that incline, gazing down upon Gon as he stabilizes himself against a tree and curses his wobbliness.
... Mettaton was indeed running in an impressive pair of stilettos, because he sure is wearing them. He's nearly a whole seven feet tall.]
Oh my. I could be asking you the same thing you ask your lovely legs. What's the matter, darling? Having some transformative troubles...?
[His equally impressive ears lean ever forward, silver fur tipped in black as he meanders down the incline like it's not even there. Mettaton is a professional at Walking, and generally Ambulating About. He has a range of experience, after all, and is quite proud of having legs.]
no subject
Wah! Mettaton!!
[Gon's still clinging to the tree, but he straightens up, practically yelling with excitement. he'd had enough clues about Mettaton's appearance during their conversation to identify him—after all, there probably weren't a lot of robot pucas around...]
no subject
So you know me... Yes! We must have spoken... Either over the network, or I'm visiting you in your dreams! It wouldn't be the first time. Haha...
[But he can't place Gon's voice, so it must not've been a voice/video conversation. The Puca wanders closer, stopping nearer to Gon.]
Don't be a stranger, now. I like having the names of any of my fans. [And, unsaid: strangers. But everyone is a potential fan, right........?]

Gon, are you alright?
( And uh-- what was that about breaking his own legs?? )
no subject
[Gon's expression lights up, eyes going wide, and then he beams, excited to see his friend despite how his legs are being a pair of BITCH ASS MOTHERFUCKERS. his smile shrinks somewhat timidly with her concern, and he rubs the back of his neck a little.
man, not again... why is Aqua always catching him in some embarrassing, needy state?]
Um... My legs have been hurting really bad and I suddenly couldn't really walk, so I fell down the hill.
no subject
You should have been resting, Gon. Let's find a place to sit. I can make ice for your legs then.
( He shouldn't be out like this... Why did he think to walk around in a place like this?
She shifts then, moving closer to Gon. )
Here. I'll help you walk.

POST VARIOUS STATES OF FOREST COLLAPSE
Gon rests for a bit, relaxing as he reflects on his day, then sighs heavily. he's been ignoring the pain for days, not expecting it to mount and to become this bad—but as Aqua chastised him for, he should have been resting on those days... not pretending that the pain wasn't there.
defeated, Gon gropes around for his watch, tossed haphazardly somewhere on his bed. after nearly dropping it on his face, Gon manages to get his shit together and do as intended: message Killua.]
hey Killua!!
I hope you're having a good night :-D
But, i don't think I can hang out tomorrow, my legs um
stopped
[Gon meant to type "working" after that, but had sent it prematurely. well, whatever. it's still true]
no subject
But today, Killua's been having a weird feeling, a sort of distant discomfort that he doesn't realize can be attributed to the Bond. He'll learn.
The message is not at all what he expected. ]
they what
no subject
I was out to forage and just explore and stuff and my legs hurt so bad i collapsed! I managed to get home with some help and then i was distracted by that so once I had my stuff again I forgot to message you to let you know what was happening
[Gon doesn't think to text people while in the company of others, of course!!! he is Polite. and also just still isn't used to tech.]
theyve been hurting for the last few days but it wasn't THAT bad so I was kind of ignoring it a little
Of course now I can't do that haha
When I stand its really shaky and painful and I just fall over right away!
no subject
This idiot... If they've been hurting for a few days and the pain was so bad he couldn't even walk, and considering Gon had failed to mention a reason like an injury, Killua doesn't struggle to put two and two together. He'd been sort of waiting for this. ]
Gon are your legs transforming?
