Who: lan wangji, wei wuxian, family, friends, anyone looking for free food and booze, and you
When: july 31st
Where: wangxian cottage yard
What: a wedding~
Warnings: will add if needed.
[pre-ceremony]
[the day's finally come, bright and auspicious according to the fortune-teller. betrothal gifts have been exchanged earlier in the month, and now the back yard attached to the wangxian cottage has been transformed from a place of peaceful seclusion to one meant for celebration and receiving guests.
but there is still plenty to do for anyone who volunteered to show up early and help: tables that need to be moved into place, chairs that need to be set up. the couple's winged bunnies will be there to assist, nibbling on red and gold cards or flying through the air with streaming pale blue and bright red ribbons to be attached to things.
there's also boxes of noisemakers to be placed on the table - small drums and flutes and party poppers, all for chasing away bad luck. there's even a few small fireworks, just in case any lingering summer pixies are looking for something to set on fire.]
[ceremony]
[the reason for the day. it's rare to see wei wuxian and lan wangji out of their usual colors, but no one can deny that they look good in red. lan wanji in red robes and a red forehead ribbon, wei wuxian in red robes and a red veil, long black ears poking through. the ceremony itself consists of various little rituals. they make their bows - to heaven and to earth, to their parents, and to each other. finally, each cuts a lock of his own hair and knots them together, sealing them up in a little pouch. the two of them have been one for awhile now, but now it's official. now no one can say otherwise.
all of this is done in front of hiccup - chief hiccup, overseeing all of the rituals that wei wuxian explained to him and adding even more legitimacy to the union.
it ends on a less solemn note, with the two exchanging smiles and laughter, and wei wuxian predictively jumping into his new husband's arms.]
[games]
[considering whose wedding it is...a puca's wedding, naturally games should be expected. guests are invited to initiate and share their own favorites, so let aefenglom's limbo champion be decided here and now.
there are drinking games and dice games, and one somewhat dangerous game that involves a blindfolded wei wuxian receiving kisses on the cheek from various guests, and "attempting" to guess which kiss came from his husband.
music and dancing are equally welcome, so pull your date close or get to know someone new.]
[banquet]
[the feast begins, and if both grooms seem to be missing by this point, well, that just leaves more food for the guests! red remains a common theme in dishes, along with roast pork and fish. there are soups, with the pork rib and lotus root having its own place of honor. it goes without saying that jiang yanli's cooking is the best, and therefore the first to disappear from the tables.
there's also plenty of vegetarian dishes and desserts, tea and alcohol in equal measure. eat, drink and be merry well into the night. the noise just might cover up a pair of very happy newlyweds.]
(ooc: this is an open catch-all log for lan wangji and wei wuxian's wedding, which the latter publically invited every mirrorbound to. feel free to top level and tag around! tagging the grooms not required, just have fun!)

[So while he might know how to interact with people, he's still not the best at it]
Lotus Pier was also directly in our city so we were more easily able to interact with those not in the sect.
no subject
[ though of course in his position, it makes sense he would.
then, glancing around them, ]
It's been a lovely wedding, hasn't it? All the others I've been to were total shams, so this is a nice change.
no subject
[He glanced around at the wedding when she said that. It certainly true that everyone seemed to be having fun and enjoying themselves]
It was. And I am curious how the other ones were a sham.
[Inquiring minds want to know]

In the end, it turned out Big Mom was planning to have Sanji-kun and his family all killed, so when we found out, we planned to take out Big Mom instead! Or at least escape... haahh, back home, Big Mom followed us after we got out of there, so now we're fighting not just one emperor but two.
[ she sighs in defeat... life with luffy is just like this, it can't be helped. ]
The other happened a few years ago, we got trapped to this pirate ship that was like an island. [ compared to her tale about whole cake island, here her voice is tight, simmering with some anger still after all this time. ]
One of the generals of the pirate whose ship it was saw me and thought I was pretty so he decided to marry me. I got kidnapped and knocked out... I only woke up towards the end of the ceremony. But it's alright! I'd befriended one of his subordinates earlier so I teamed up with her and we defeated him, and then my captain defeated his master, so we got away.
[ but still — not one of her favourite experiences. ]
no subject
Shameful! Both of them! If they had been subject to our laws, we would have put them in their place!
no subject
But things are different in my home. The government's justice... it's not much of a justice at all. They've hunted my friend since she was just eight years old, wiped out her entire home island, just because the people found out something they didn't want known. There are corrupt officials, like the one who made it possible for my home town to be controlled by a pirate crew for many years.
[ the smile she gives him is half sad, half resigned. ] Back home, the only justice that the World Government will give me is either prison or execution.
no subject
I am sorry. Perhaps not the same way, but I know how that feels.
no subject
[ her tone is gentle, though, and she smiles at him — truly, it's not so bad, when she's with her friends there.
and then — ] I should say sorry, too, if you know how it's like... but if there's justice in your home, now, maybe things aren't like that anymore. Did you do something to change things? Maybe declare open war on the government, too?
[ it's an attempt to lighten the mood, but she absolutely believes him capable of doing just that. ]
no subject
[And he means it. If she doesn't want pity, he wouldn't pity her. He knew what it was like. Ever since everything went down, people could have pitied him and he didn't want it]
They got worse before they got better, but I did unite many sects against the one who had caused the problems.
[Yes, he was quite smug about that. He had still be outwitted by him briefly in the end, but he felt that he had gotten the upper hand by letting others know how terrible he was]
no subject
Mm, it's often like that, isn't it... [ things getting worse before they get better.
but then she grins brightly at him. ]
I knew it! To unite many sects... it's something only a sect leader can do, right? [ so he used his position to affect things so that they'd be better and the culprit would be caught. good!! ]
See, this is why you're my favourite! [ look she's already declared to wei wuxian and momo that out of all the cultivators, jiang cheng is the best one, so she has no qualms declaring it to his face, either. ] So, did you catch the culprit and bring them to justice?
no subject
[And he definitely felt that way about it. Way too far]
Of course it is. Only a good sect leader would be able to unite them against a common enemy that we all had.
[He smirked at her comment about him being her favorite. So rare was that to hear and it was an amazing thing]
We did. Unfortunately, we weren't able to exact a prolonged punishment such as being banished or jailed, but it was still worked in the end.
no subject
Good!
[ for a moment, she listens to the music — then, when there's a particularly suitable moment in the song, she lifts their joined hands, steps lightly to the side, and does a twirl, before she steps back to her original position... and effortlessly resumes the steps from where they're at, currently. ]
Oh, I wanted to ask — how's the kitten doing? Did you name her yet?
no subject
He watched as she did this stepped and smiled. Very elegant]
She is doing well. Settling into the house and getting along well with Fairy, Jin Ling's dog. I've started calling her Li Mei.
no subject
[ but then, fairy seemed like an intelligent dog, and kittens generally take well to whatever other animals a household has. ]
Li Mei? I like how that sounds! [ it's a cute name, she thinks, though has no idea of its meaning... ]
I've started thinking about adopting one of the kittens, too... it might be nice to have some company in the house! And I heard that witches can bond with familiars, too, so that'd be a help. [ it would buy her a couple more months before her magic goes nuclear, at least. ]
no subject
Pretty Rose. That's what Li Mei means.
Having company is certainly nice. [Yes, he had a house full of company, but having the kitten with him at night, sleeping in his bed with him was nice] And we would be able to let them play together... since they are likely siblings.
no subject
[ and also that's the cutest thing ever, him naming the kitten that, so half of her cooing may be about that, actually. ]
Mm, that's true! I'll be counting on that, if I do get a kitten, too.
[ as she says that, the song they've been dancing to comes to an end, and she lets go of him and curtsies perfectly properly — perhaps not a gesture he's used to, what with everyone bowing in his world, but it's easy to make the connection to it being something similar. ]
Thank you for the dance... Sect Leader. [ she says, with a wink, which slightly takes away from the properness of the gesture... but at least it's cute? ]
no subject
[It was one thing that she hadn't learned about him yet... He was practically incapable of naming an animal a tough-sounding name. They were all cute names. The three dogs he had had to get rid of had been "Princess", "Jasmine", and "Little Love"]
Yes, help them burn off some energy. Li Mei is into everything and likes playing with everyone and every animal in the house.
[Yes, he figured that her curtsy was something that women did in their world. He bowed back to her. He smirked slightly]
Of course. Thank you, Maiden Nami. [Yes, he was going to do that still... because he could]
Shall we take a look at the foods on offer?
no subject
[ kittens are like that!
at the address, she presses her palm against her cheek briefly, her smile a little softer, before she nods. ]
A good idea! Your sister cooked for this wedding, right? Then we should definitely make sure to respect her efforts and eat what she's made! You'll have to tell me what is the best.
[ again, she links their arms — but this time, instead of pulling him along like she did to the dance floor, she lets him lead the way. ]
no subject
[He might be a little biased... okay, a lot biased. Since she was his sister and she had always cooked for him]
You have to try the lotus and pork rib soup.
no subject
[ she really has no doubts that it'll be excellent. ]
no subject
[And he couldn't help but smile a bit at the fond memory. He led her over to the table with the food and indicated the lotus and pork rib soup]
That one there.
no subject
[ don't mind her as she gets herself a bowl... and then just takes another one, fills it, and gives it to him. he's clearly wanting to eat it too.
as soon as she tastes the first spoonful, her eyes go wide, and she swallows quickly to exclaim, ]
Wow! It's really delicious! And you grew up eating this? Ahh, that's so lucky... [ even back when her mother was alive, they were so poor they couldn't afford much variety for food, and after her mother's death, she fended for herself, getting either what arlong gave her or what she stole. ]
no subject
But he waited for her to try it first before he took a bite of his own]
Yes, she made it for us on special occasions or just when we needed it. I have never found anything better.
no subject
[ there's a flash of something bittersweet in her expression — it used to be her favourite dish, but it was also the last bellemere ever cooked for her, and she's not eaten it since. ]
no subject
[Considering what she had told him before, he suspected it had been a while since she'd had it, but he filed that away as interesting information]
casually timeskips towards the end of the party
timeskip whee!
