[a robot with eyebrow piercings? that is, honestly, very nearly as cool as Eren himself is in Styx's easily impressed mind. he has to do a double take even, although it's not like staring at the dragon-adjacent next to him will really do much to help envision a person not present. his fingers rub at one of the piercings absently while he contemplates this, falling away only when he speaks again.]
Dude, did he say what they used to pierce him? That's fucking killer.
no subject
[ eren silently tucks that away to question mettaton about it later, and then bring that information back to styx— for now, he should educate himself. ]
How'd you do yours? You said it kills people?
[ he's guessing it could kill normal people? help this young-faced boomer and teach the ways of modern slang, styx. your time has come. ]

[Eren may be an eledery man in a younger, scalier body, but Styx is an idiot with the face of someone who probably should be a little quicker on the uptake with regards to their own conversations. he stares at his companion for a few moments, brows furrowed deeply as he tries to figure out where in the world he'd implied that his piercings had murdered anybody.]
I mean, if you're not good with pain it probably feels like you're dying, but uh...
[it...it really wasn't that terrible. suddenly revelation dawns upon him like a holy ray of light and he shakes his head lightly.]
Oh, you thought it was - nah, dude, 's not like, actually killer. Just something you say when shit's cool, you know? [...no, wait. Eren has descended from metal album dragon to well-meaning retiree, so Styx automatically assumes he probably won't know that word either.] ...when something's awesome.

there's even an eren + child + fae shaped splatter on the wall. ]
Where're you from? [ it might be a long shot but it just looks so similar that . . . ] Oregon?
no subject
he's so involved in his fun little picture hunt that he nearly misses Eren's question, turning around apologetically before his brain has even caught up to whatever it is he's missed.]
Huh? [nice, helpful.] Oh, uh, me? Nah, I'm from Massachusetts. Never been that far, but I've heard pretty cool stuff about it! Have you?
no subject
[ and he never would. ]
It’s in the United States of America. A friend from there said they have jeans, and hills that look like mountains. [ but all he knows is exactly what jonas has told him, and his tone in repeating facts is made known here rather than speaking about something he’s personally seen. ] What about Massachewsets?
[ pronunciation . . . ]

Uh, I mean...I got these jeans from there, so uh, we got pants too!
[and to emphasize this he gives the well worn jeans he's currently wearing a helpful little smack, as if Eren might think to look at the other piles of fucking pants just littered around the room.]
Dunno about mountains, though - might just be regular hills? The city I'm from is on an island, so it's kinda different from the rest of the place.

I lived on an island, too. [ surrounded by . . . ocean. ] What about the rest of the world?
[ it might be an odd question— but eren’s home had been isolated and the ones outside those boundaries . . . didn’t want them alive. ]

Hey, that's pretty k- cool. [phew. caught that one.] You by the water or closer to the center? 'm more like the second one, this place is kinda the first time seeing that much water at once.
[which was really fucking awesome, in his childish opinion. the dragon's question throws him for a loop, though, and soon enough his brow is crinkling in a massive exercise of thought. it's kind of painful.]
But, uh, I mean...guess everything's an island if you think about it, right? 'Cause eventually there's gonna be an ocean on the other side of it...at least it was like that at home.
[he's completely misinterpreted what's being asked of him, but he is trying his best!! fighting through the existential crisis this is giving him.]

My home was close to the center. [ the far outer district of many others, the scapegoat town of shinganshina if anything ever went to shit with the walls— and they did. as for the house, it's a little dusty and unused, but they could fix that up fast. he and jean cleaned mikleo's old cottage in a few hours at most. no one's around, the rooms are empty . . . it's good to start, and eren hands him the (magic??) keys. ] But I meant the state of it all.
[ after a beat, he gestures, feeding a hopeless hope that maybe this time, he'll hear something different. it was childish to expect, but he still did. ]
How people live . . . If there're any.
[ lex had told him about her own world when she was still here. a wasteland. problem people. things hardly changed and maybe after the rumbling it would've ended up that way too, but. eren had a lot more present problems to think about than future ones. ]

How people live..?
[he repeats the question softly to himself, staring off into the middle distance as he contemplates something he's never really had to before. 'like normal' really didn't apply here and so he had to put forth a lot of brainpower into this answer.]
Well, there's definitely tons of people! Never really left Eddan before, but I know lots of people work on the other side 'nd stuff. Commute's not bad.
[because the fucking dragon's interested in job opportunities, you dipshit. he gestures vaguely at nothing before trying again.]
But I guess it's like, well - uh, tech's a lot more advanced than here. Eddan started out as, um, I think it's called a model city? So we've got some stuff the mainland still don't, but otherwise it's pretty much the same. Just...you know, living life 'nd stuff. Nothing crazy like what's happening here.
