Running into her again? And seeing her... looking a little bit like she did when she was being spun around by that tricky Fae? He's ready to admit that he's kind of concerned about her. At least she's up and moving around.
And has the same idea about doing work that he does.
The Daisy Chain workers are helpful and welcoming, and Souji goes to pull out a chair like a good boy for Minako as the staff begin preparing their things for the class. ]
You know, for a whole city that wasn't exactly prepared for a bunch of people from another world, they've all been awfully welcoming. [ Oh, they're providing tea... he offers the staff a smile as it's brought over to them. ]
no subject
Still, a giant manta ray with legs in one's fountain is probably a bizarre sight.]
wildcard!
the kind that might make your ears ring. ]
Good afternoon, sir!! [ even if they’re the same age, he has a roll to fulfill. he pauses, looks down at his script, then jolts back up after reading his line. ] Can I interest you in a prize winning survey for, [ looks down again, ] five minutes of your time?!
no subject
Still, she's making the best of it. It helps that a lot of the quests are pretty easy to complete, especially if she has an incredibly sweet and friendly partner like Souji to work with.
She's glad to see him again. Something in her heart feels a little...soothed? satisfied? but also agitated? by his presence. It's hard to explain. And it feels weird since she just met him, so she's going to keep the fact to herself.]
Yeah! We're very lucky world hoppers. I'm glad they don't seem to be struggling to accommodate us. And still have all these festivals going on. [She gives him a crooked smile as she wraps her hands around her tea.] It almost doesn't seem like they're in danger that way.
[That's the worst kind of danger, though-- creeping up on you slowly until it's become a monster that seems insurmountable. She knows very well.]
🏡 ʜᴏᴜsᴇᴍᴀᴛᴇs
Because it also doesn't take much for him to figure out that resources are always in flux. So he gets what he can - a lot of fish, dried herbs, tubers, cured meats - and figures out what to make from there.
He's in the kitchen, now, peeling and chopping tubers and root vegetables that he's gotten, a paper-wrapped parcel of white fish waiting for when he's gotten this taken care of. Already there's an aroma floating through their big house, butter and garlic and herbs cooking as the base to everything. At the very least, he can do this for the people that he's found himself living with.
Especially since he shares so much in common with the both of them. Souji will have food prepared for them, whenever they're home or come to join him.
They'll have someone to greet them, regardless. ]
!!!
But, he has time. Even if his ears are definitely ringing.
Amused, though, he tilts his head obligingly. ]
Only five minutes? Consider me interested and sold.

Slowly, he goes and sets the bag down, approaching Aeto with visible curiosity. He befriended all of the strays in Inaba, as well as a fox that he's certain had more to her than anyone in the community thought she did, considering her intelligence. A manta ray with legs?
That's fine. ]
Well, hello there. How's the water?
no subject
He'll see if the same thing happens with Minako.
Settling into his seat, he picks up the tea and blows lightly at the top of it before he takes a sip. But her words do give him a moment of pause, as he mulls over it. ]
We did arrive in the middle of the festival, so it might've been that it hadn't hit them that we weren't supposed to be there. [ Contemplative as he sounds, Souji also sounds a little wry to match her crooked smile. ] It wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to forget about the danger, but...
[ That doesn't seem safe, either. ]

Coming home to the smell of a fresh meal cooking is nothing new, but the notes in the air this time aren't quite like the spices he's used to back home. Common sense and the rhythmic sound of a knife against a cutting board lead him to the kitchen with light steps, where he finds Souji turned away at the counter. Unsurprising, considering Lux said before that she had people to cook for her back home; it seems like he and Souji have been the only ones really utilizing the kitchen so far. ]
Want any help? [ The question comes from the doorway, Akira leaning a shoulder against the frame. ]
no subject
Which is why she comes home that day with a bag filled with bread in her arms, carefully letting herself in before taking in the smell. Her stomach growls (right, she forgot about lunch this afternoon), and slowly she lets her feet lead her toward the kitchen, craning to look past Akira's shoulders to see what's going on inside. ]
...Can I help too?
[ She's completely clueless about this type of cooking, but please teach her the kitchen magic you're performing, Souji. ]
no subject
She'll sting him if he's not. She'll pull herself out of the foundation, flapping her 'wings' to shake off some of the excess water so she doesn't drip, before padding over to Souji, rattling and lifting her head up towards him. Pets, please.]
no subject
Five minutes! [ he repeats, to signal that he’s starting now— as he reads off his paper and clipboard: ] Your diet consists of: meat, plants, both, other, specify?
no subject
Please don't sting him he is full of pets and treats. When she greets him with happiness as opposed to any threat, Souji crouches down the same as he always does when he's interacting with animals. It makes him smaller, less threatening, and puts him more on their level for the exact thing that Aeto is asking for: pets. ]Ohh, I see; the water's good, but this is better, huh? Is on the head all right? Or do you like your chin scratched, too? [ His laugh is soft as he brings his hand up, rubbing her between her "horns." The sensation is... interesting, but not unpleasant, especially when she's being cute. ] You're welcome to our fountain. I don't imagine we'll be using it as much as you might.
no subject
Meat and plants both, with things made from them like bread and such. I'm willing to try anything once, though, so if something is a little... different from what I'm used to, I won't turn my nose up at it.
[ Even if it's questionably edible. Nanako's science experiment will never be spoken of. ]

But from the other side of the hedge/fence, the name "Aeto!" can be heard called as Paris tries to figure out where she went. The spirit perks her head up, looking towards the word before looking back at Souji and chirping. That's her!]
no subject
But he perks when she does, watching her look away, then back to him, as someone is calling for - her? Is the person looking for her? ] Did you sneak off? [ His amusement is obvious; yes, he's caught that she's telling him her name, basically. But as he rests his arm on her back to continue petting her a little, he lifts his head up to call back. ]
I think "Aeto" is over here.
no subject
Paris heard the return call, and figuring out exactly where Aeto was from that, makes his way over.] Oh, u-um, hello... I'm sorry, was she in your fountain again? I'm pretty sure she's just claimed all of them...
no subject
Having time to themselves is one thing. Loneliness is another.
His head tilts a little, hearing someone joining him. But he doesn't truly turn until he hears the both of them, lifting his head as he does, a smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. ]
Could use some help in cutting and preparing, if you both want to lend a hand. [ He has a feeling he can entrust Akira to good knife cuts, and start with basics for Lux. ]
no subject
[ It is just decoration, after all. So if she wants to go swimming, he's not against it. Especially since she's pretty cute. Actually: - ] And I don't mind a visitor every now and then, especially one that's this adorable.
no subject
[She's very stubborn.]
no subject
[ And then Souji looks down at the ray, very gently giving her a "ruffle" back and forth. No fur to ruffle through, but the gesture has the same concept, jostling playfully but not roughly. ] If we asked politely, I'm sure we could come to an agreement, hm Aeto?
no subject
Paris laughs a little.] Mm. I'm glad it doesn't bother you... she really likes the fountains. [Paris isn't exactly mad about them either, and the gills on his neck and the scaling that's growing on his arms, not quite up to his elbows, probably shows that well enough.] Are you, um... you're new like the rest of us, right?
no subject
Sure thing.
[ That's his cue to step farther into the kitchen, moving over to join Souji at the counter. His knowledge of recipes may not be particularly broad, but working at Leblanc has given him a good grasp on the basics, knife skills included. It seems Souji's taken care of most of the peeling, even. ]
I can take care of these if you want.
no subject
With a simple smile, she rolls up her sleeves. All right, then. ]
Can you show me what you want me to do?
[ She's always learned best through watching others first. ]
no subject
‘Kay— If you could have anything you wanted, with a questionable appearance, would you eat it? For example, [ pause. he has to read and reread this one. ] . . . “Eating a goo blob that tastes just like pizza”. Huh.
Like if you could drink barbecue . . .

[If only things could've been like that for her at home. Then one group of young people wouldn't have been burdened with saving all of humanity. But instead, there were way too many people giving in, too many people letting apathy and fear overtake them. Hope and optimism were in short supply those last few months, and witnessing the decline of their city did her team no favors. They only managed to persevere by holding each other up every step of the way to the end.
So if this world's way of enduring is through festivals, then she'll help keep them happening before she inevitably fades away. Who doesn't love a good party, after all?]
And if they ever forget that they're fighting to save themselves, I'm a really good candidate for kicking people's butts into gear!
no subject
[ He says it with a smile, friendly and companionable. With the question, he tips his head slightly in a nod. ] Maiuril 1st, if I remember their month names right. My name's Souji - it's nice to meet you.
no subject
Mm, I think that's when I arrived too. I'm Paris. It's, um, nice to meet you too.
no subject
[ Because.
Because he's like this, he guesses. Souji asking the real hard questions that are going to make this longer than five minutes, probably. ]
no subject
So then you're our neighbor... [ Souji lifts his hand a bit, pointing off in the direction Paris had come from. ] Over that way? I was thinking about introducing myself to all of our neighbors, since it couldn't hurt for us to at least get to know each other, but I'm glad Aeto helped out with that.
no subject
[If Souji's seen the chocobo trotting down the street, it's probably from their yard.]
Yes! I'm, um... I'm really glad we were able to meet each other. There are a lot of people here.... [It's very overwhelming, and Paris's less-than-stellar social skills make it a little difficult for him to try and reach out to people.]
