☆ Event Log: Winter Event Medley
I. Snow Way Out (6th - 10th)
This far on the south end of the continent, Aefenglom's infrastructure is not built for this kind of historic blizzard. Homes and shops alike were not built to withstand several feet of snow piling up on their rooftops, and at least a few collapses are imminent. Witches from the Coven take to the streets to try and clear them with heat and controlled fire, but the areas they leave have a tendency to ice over not long after they move on, and it expends quite a bit of magical energy trying to make even that much progress. Attempts grind to a halt later on the 6th, however, when something strange occurs. At times, the flurries of snow kicked up seem to move opposite to the direction of the howling wind, swirling almost as if they are alive, and this phenomenon brings with it disruptions in Witch magic and magitech. They occur seemingly at random, hitting one district but not another, hitting one neighborhood but not the one three blocks down. Even the length of time these disruptions last varies by too much to predict it, a few minutes, a few hours, a few days. The only ones unaffected by the disruptions are Monsters, who seem to keep whatever natural abilities they might have. They're much better off than untrained humans and Witches. In Aefenglom, a city that relies on magic and magitech in its day to day, this brings certain aspects of daily life to a screeching halt.
The biggest problem is that whatever is causing the disruptions inside the city has also managed to cause disruptions in the enchantments on the Bright Wall that help to defend against the Cwyld. Whole sections of the Wall go dormant. They usually seem to flicker back to life after some time has passed, leading experts to believe that Cwyld creeping into the city on its own is not an immediate concern, but the flickering is attracting more Shades toward the city than usual. This is much more pressing, because the Wilders become spread thin trying to keep up, and residents of the Outer City are in immediate danger from attacks. Anyone who is willing and able to help defend Aefenglom are asked to do, and issued mostly long-distance weaponry to help shoot down Shades before they can reach the Wall. Infected corpses will have to be dealt with later, after the snows have let up, because conditions are even worse outside the Wall - be careful, visibility is poor out there. As a temporary solution, Parliament elects to allow in residents of the Outer City who are completely free of infection, choosing to funnel them into the Refugee District. Overcrowding is not one of their concerns at the moment, though it is likely. Many citizens in varying stages of infection still remain outside the Bright Wall, however, in dilapidated housing that offers little to no protection from the elements and marauding Shades. b. Lending a Hand
In the Refugee District, the rowhouses given to them when they first arrived have been improved by Mirrorbound help, but a fair amount of the wood that makes up the structures is still weak from age and the elements, having sat empty and untended for so many years before. There are at least a few roof collapses, and the narrow, uneven streets are difficult to navigate with the snow piling up. The efforts to clear roadways have not reached this area, and may not for quite some time - they simply aren't the first priority. Along with overcrowding as uninfected citizens from the Outer City pile in, eager to reach safety from shades outside, it's clear that these neighborhoods will be left to handle the blackouts and lack of heating alone. Despite the hardships, they're all willing to buckle down, pitch in, and take care of each other, welcoming any Mirrorbound who come to assist or bring supplies with open arms, treating them as if they're just as much a part of this little community that has formed up. They open their homes to those displaced and crowd around fireplaces to stay warm together, lending a somehow cozy feel to the whole affair. They may not be the richest or most privileged, but they seem happier than many in the Aristocratic District, whose massive, airy homes are impossible to heat or navigate in the dark without the help of magitech lights and heating systems. The wealthy elite as well are not used to having to shovel their own walkways, so many remain snowed into their frigid homes, miserable, until volunteers with the city can dig them out. Maybe this is an opportunity to sow some good will? c. Warm Company
For any of the Mirrorbound whose homes aren't warm enough to weather the storm in, the Coven opens up the dormitories again, as they did that first month, offering bedrooms with roaring fires in the fireplaces - but it'll be crowded, so enjoy sharing a bed with someone else. The blizzard dies down by the evening of the 10th, and with the passing of the storm, the disruptions in magic cease. Witches will find their magic reliable again, and magitech all over the city will flicker back to life, fully functional. Cleanup will commence in the days after, clearing snow from walkways, repairing damaged buildings, and beginning preparation for... |
II. Modranicht (21st - 23rd)
Leading up to the 21st, celebrations around the city are in full swing.
b. Craft Fair
c. Eat, Drink & Be Merry
It isn't required, but many citizens bring a dish to add to the tables, meant to be shared - usually a special family recipe. Mirrorbound are encouraged to share traditional food from their own homes (or close approximations of it), if they want to - many are highly interested in customs from other worlds, and it comes with bragging rights, should their dish prove popular! The yearly Feast is a great time for restaurant owners to come out and choose new additions to their menus. While a holiday primarily for family, attending the feast together is a popular past-time of new couples; small, controlled bonfires are set up around the grounds to warm up at, and hot drinks (both alcoholic and not) are provided. It's considered a very romantic date idea, but families gather around the fires as well, singing folk songs and telling stories well into the night. The few days just after Modranicht ends are widely regarded as time to take it easy and rest after merrymaking, just in time for... |
III. Hunting of the Wren (26th)
The "wren" itself is traditionally, well, a wren, but within recent decades it'd been acceptable simply to use any small bird available, be they from one of the citizens or, in this case, the Coven itself! Tiff, the ghost sparrow known to all Witches and what Monsters attend the Coven's lessons, is known as the grumpiest, meanest bird about -- never a kind squawk from this one, always flapping her wings distastefully on those who edge too near no matter the offerings made to lighten her mood, and, according to some students, "older than the Coven itself". Whether true or not, Tiff is incredibly long-lived, and is begrudgingly considered one of the mascots by the students. Ghost sparrows are known to consume wayward magic, making them excellent pets and familiars, and Tiff is no exception; her belly is filled with differing colors, creating a prismatic-like effect when light strikes her, and one could almost call her beautiful... until she opens her beak. She's none too happy about being in a cage, much less paraded around to "purge" poor behavior of the folk, and is letting this be known very much.
If the harmless pranks don't satisfy her, as they often do not, Tiff decides to do some of her own by way of spitting minor elemental magics from her belly, in the form of embers, sparks, and icy winds. This'll cause small fires and short circuit the magitech of house for a small period of time, and frankly speaking the party people don't seem to care much. Most do, in that laughing assuring way that it'll burn itself out or the magitech'll just take ten to start back up, but some laugh a little too hard, jeer a little too much, beneath their anonymity. They toe the line and back off before things become too dicey, but... Well, the Dorchacht refugees they prank in the same way aren't so understanding, and spats begin to start that the city guard must break up. b. Joining the Fun
... Which is how the refugees of Dorchacht plan to get their revenge, gussying up and hiding their features in order to perform acts of petty revenge. As parties do, while it starts with just the local Aefenglom natives it does start to extend to the Mirrorbound as well, so beware those who have actual Harpy sat in "cages" of performative magic for the occasion, because their pranks are much, much worse, and include suggestive song to manipulate those who hear it into doing things they may not usually do. |
Welcome to December's event log! This one post covers all three mini-events taking place in December - there will not be another mod-posted log. Questions can be found HERE. The Quest Board is open as well! As always, feel free to use this log or make your own, and Happy Holidays, Aefenglom!

Enkidu | Fate/GO | ota
Lending a Hand - I (Refugee District)
[Normally this isn’t a problem for them. Carrying heavy things, making sure to prevent collapse by holding something up, lifting multiple things at the same time. But now Enkidu has to grit their teeth and stop their arms from trembling.
There is some sort of irony to this, they know that. Didn’t they always wanted to walk besides humanity? Well, here they are, walking in their very footsteps with the very same abilities and strength they have.
With all their might they push the part of the roof upwards, breathing heavily.]
I need some help. [They move to turn to the person close to them with a terribly tired expression on their face.] I am not able to keep this up for much longer.
[Because not even their shitty magic isn’t going to help them now.]
Lending a Hand - II (Aristocratic District)
[Enkidu definitely isn’t unaware of the older man’s pleas. Yet, the little shivering dog is more important now. They hold the creature close, trying to warm it the best they can.]
There will be someone coming for you soon enough. But this animal seems to be wounded. You just seem very cold.
[The animal seems to have a broken leg and Enkidu handles it carefully, talking to the dog as they make their way down the street. Eventually they stop and presents the shivering bundle of dog to the one who stands across of them.]
This dog needs help. It seems to have broken its leg.
Warm Company
[The bed is cozy and Enkidu can feel their body warming up the second they lie down. Despite how comfortable their place is they don’t really look well at all. Their skin looks much more pale and there are some cracks in their skin.
Still, when someone appears next to them they scoot to the side to make place for the other.]
Of course.
[They mutter the word softly as they move to wrap the blanket around them again.]
Are you comfortable? Or do you wish to share this blanket as well?
[The tone of their voice is calm, yet there’s no trace of kindness. At this point Enkidu is just a really, really tired and somewhat sad lump of clay.]
Modranicht
Kiss-tletoe: the kissening
[It seems this world is one of extremes. Endless suffering at first and here they are, feasting again. Enkidu is on their way to the library, looking far better than they have been before. For once they are not wearing their wide clothes but settle for an old, woollen jacket, a linen shirt underneath it and a simple pair of white colored pants.
And suddenly they stand still, their feet nailed to the ground. They can’t really move and when they try to use their own magic they merely manage to set one of their shoelaces on fire for a short moment.]
[Eat, Drink & Be Merry - I]
[Enkidu doesn’t have much coin so alas, no food. Yet, what they can do is eat and a lot of it. That really hasn’t changed.]
I hope you do not mind me taking the last bit of this. [Thing is that they ask said question while they have already taken hold of said dish. And they’ve already stuck their spoon in it.]
[Eat, Drink & Be Merry - II]
[They cradle their drink carefully while warming their feet. It is pleasant, calming and they listen carefully to all the stories that are told around them. Some speak of what has happened earlier this month, others crack jokes and others are just a little drunk.
A soft, content hum escapes their mouth while they sip a spicy sort of drink.]
And once again we find ourselves at a feast.
[Not that they are complaining, no, not at all.]
warm company
[ flat is there with his own couple blankets, plus a heavy coat, carrying it around the same way a turtle would carry its shell. and while he's not usually someone that reaches out for any physical affection, enkidu looks a little too depressing for flat not to notice. ]
I'm doing good but, I think you're not okay at all, Lancer!
[ he says this cheerfully. ]
Maybe I should be the one sharing blankets with you. [ he opens the blanket up, gesturing for enkidu to come under. ] Come on, come on.
no subject
[They recognize the owner of that voice and normally it is a reason to smile a little. But now they are too tired and too worn out to do anything. It is safe to say that Enkidu has reached the absolute pinnacle of uselessness.]
Ah. [That offered blanket looks really thick and warm.] Are you sure about that? I am quite cold myself.
no subject
[ flat approaches them, wrapping the blanket behind their shoulder in order to pull enkidu close to him. and while flat isn't all that warm either anymore, he'll do the best to keep lancer from looking as deathly pale. ]
You look sick. What's wrong?

Eat, Drink & Be Merry - II - Mission: feed Enks!
Iskandar could spot them from the other side of the park. That mass of green hair is impossible to miss. He'd been here most of the day. Feasts like this are his absolute favourite. All the people sitting, eating, drinking and telling stories. What can possibly be better?
Iskandar heard that it's customary to bring your own dish to add to the communal feast so he took with himself a basket full of meat-pies. He didn't make them himself. He could but the result won't be satisfactory. His skills are with a blade and bow, not a pan and pot. Fortunately, he knows a man for the job and was able to recruit his help even in such a busy time. He left most of them on the table already but there are still a few in the basket.
"What do you eat?"
Enkidu always gives him an impression of a nymph or a naiad. Iskandar would hate to insult them by giving them a meat dish and risking that it's not something they can eat.
FEED THEM ISKANDAR!
Enkidu looks down at themselves and finally move to pat their stomach. Is that something others can see? Normally things like that aren't a problem at all. If they'd lose some clay, they'd add some clay.
"Truly?"
And really, they can see those meatpies there and to be fair, they would not mind to stuff their face with them. So when that question comes a small smile appears on their face.
"I eat a lot. My favorite dish is ale with bread and mutton. Hmm...it is quite a nostalgic dish." It reminds them of those days a long time ago. "But I would not mind some of the pies you are holding either."
no subject
Iskandar sits down, puts the basket on the front in front of them.
"Well, mutton it is not," he says. "It would be, were we in my home country. That's where the recipe is from. I thought it would be good to bring something familiar."
He takes out two pies and gives one to Enkidu.
"The good man who prepared those told me what kind of meat he used. Sadly, I recognized not a word from his description. It's good though."
There's a bottle and cups in the basket too. Surely, Iskandar expected company when he came here.
"But I would love to have some roasted mutton. With some good wine. The one they make here is a little too sweet for my taste."

eat, drink, be merry - i
There's a half-smile. ]
I mean, it's all yours. Obviously!
no subject
[This truly is their type of feast. Lots of food, more food and food to top of all that...food.]
Absolutely. But I insist we share. [So allow Enkidu to grab one of those small plates so they can scoop some of that good food on it.] Here.
no subject
Sharing isn't a bad option. It's good, though. I wonder what it is.

Kiss-tletoe: the kissening
[Sokie tsked at them. She had no idea as to what they were trying to do-mostly she thought that maybe some magic had gone arwy, as it sometimes happened. So she kicked some snow their direction, using the side of her foot to put the flames out.]
Because while I've heard of hot foot, burnt feet is a pretty painful injury.
[And...well, she's being kind. She doesn't realize that it was an attempt to leave, not just spells flinging off of their person, as it was known to happen during the dark moon phases and well...unbonded witches.]
You all right?
no subject
I have never had a burnt foot. But nothing is impossible here I guess. But thank you for preventing such a thing from happening.
[They still can't move yet and...they're aware of this strange focus on her lips. For some reason they look quite kissable. Soft and plump and...ah...]
No. Not entirely. I cannot move... [And yes, there's that too...] ...and I wish to kiss you.
no subject
[They seem kind of sweet. And...oh. Well. Her lips quirk, but she takes a quick glance around, just...checking. She doesn't feel the compulsion yet, but she might not be in its range.]
I think you've been caught by some mistletoe, lovely. That feeling may not be real.

The Kissening c:<
[Rich teases lightly as he stands in front of the stranger. He's run into one or two people underneath the mistletoe, so he has a feeling he knows what this is about. Poor sap probably needs someone to kiss him. Rich doesn't find him unattractive, so he wouldn't mind helping with a rescue, if Endiku was in need.]
no subject
[Slowly they move to cover it with snow. Now their shoe changes to a wet shoe instead.]
Since shoes are meant to protect the feet they should be more sturdy.
[Truly, humanity, work on your shoes! They look at the other for a long moment and afterwards they gaze at the little branch above them. Ah yes.]
It would help if you'd kiss me. The cheek will do. [Enkidu points at their cheek.] Or the mouth. I really want to read these books.
no subject
[He glances up in surprise when Endiku mentions the kiss, but his surprise eventually turns into an easy-going smile.]
Oh, so you know about that thing already, huh? Ruins the surprise, but I guess that means I don't have to ask if it's okay...
[So Rich is going to take his shot, rolling up onto his tiptoes in order to give Endiku a quick peck on their lips. Nothing fancy, but it makes him smile a little wider all the same.]

Lending a Hand
[L (or Linden, as he habitually introduces himself) stiffens rather visibly. Animals make him uneasy, and dogs especially with their unpredictability and seemingly innate sense for who is shifty, who cannot be trusted. But this one is young and injured and probably pretty harmless.
Warily, he tries to manage holding the creature with his long and very chapped hands. It's clearly an awkward an unpracticed process; it seems like this is something he's never done before.]
I'm not a healer, and even if I was, I'm having difficulty using magic today.
[A condition shared by many, to the point where L can be frustrated but it doesn't feel fair to get angry. Not when so many others are in the same boat.]
no subject
Linden, does the dog scare you?
[Enkidu notices now how L stiffens and seems to be very uncomfortable holding the animal. And really, missing their magic is the least of their problems. Their body is strained from all the magic that has been building up inside of it. As if Cu's pleasant treatment has been in vain.]
Everyone has. It seems rather common.
[They reach out towards the other.]
If you want I will carry the dog. Yet, I must ask you if you can show me the way to someone who can heal it properly.
no subject
It's not that, so much, it's just...
[He's made uneasy by the dog. It's a strange creature to him; "scared" isn't the right word precisely, but it's absolutely in that general neighborhood. That, at least, is fairly clear.
He's all too glad to hand the animal back to Enkidu.]
I can help in that way, at least. Ordinarily I'd suggest the Coven, but it's very likely that the witches there are experiencing the same problems with their magic. A mundane veterinarian might be our best option.

warm company
[ Look, the only reason that Vanitas has decided to come into this room is because he recognizes Endiku. They don't particularly annoy Vanitas in any way, so it's fine. Really he's just looking to stay out of the cold. Nothing else.
He doesn't even lay down. Just sit there. Because what is huddling close and sharing body heat? ]
no subject
[They insist.]
Perhaps we can both sleep this way.

Thankfully, the cold weather allows her to hide her still growing tail well enough with a long, hooded coat.
