except eren. doesn’t. know that, does he. ]
—?
[ he holds it to his ear like one would hold the end of a radio speaker, and stares at akira expectantly. now what, wizard? ]
no subject
No, that's—how you end the call.
[ This is harder than he thought. When this sort of technology (albeit not the magical sort) is so thoroughly embedded in his daily life, it feels like a given to know the ins and outs of it. Akira has to take a figurative step back and look at this from the perspective of someone who has literally no idea what technology is. Like a caveman.
No offense, Eren. ]
It's like a "no" button. The green one is "yes." So if you want to answer you press the green one.
no subject
[ don’t offend him
but at least he looks willing? consider this a take two, when the watch is put on incoming call, and looking between the two colors to distinguish them— he carefully goes for the green, making sure his poke at it is a hard one. he just never knows how much is enough when it’s just a simple flat surface. ] ]
no subject
But overall the second try is a massive improvement, Akira's image popping up on the watch. He gives a thumbs up towards his own before looking up to grin at him directly. ]
no subject
wow. humanity has come a long way? ]
You can see anyone. Anywhere. [ for a brief moment— he puts aside being played like a fiddle, to ask a more important question. ] So I can call home?
[ the hope of possibility in his eyes is almost heart wrenching to break. ]
no subject
Oh. That question.
His smile softens into something a little less lively. No playing around with this one. ]
I don't think it's possible. I tried already, it didn't work. [ He ends the call so that he doesn't have to see Eren's potential disappointment on two fronts, studying the blank screen afterward. ] … It's probably only for this world.
no subject
. . . We’ll figure something out. At least to give them some word.
[ how do world hopping mechanics work: the mystery. after a pause and wrapping the watch with his fingers: ]
What’s your name?
no subject
Yeah. [ Because he can't leave it like this. They probably think he's in danger (which he may very well be, even if not immediate) or, worse, dead. As much as Akira knows the Phantom Thieves are capable of carrying on without him, it's hard to stomach the idea of them worrying about him like they must be.
It's better that he doesn't dwell on that right now, so he's grateful for the subject change. ]
Akira Kurusu.
no subject
[ worries that they’ll have to unfold as they go. he gives a glance down at the watch before nodding some to himself, then
whacking the back of akira’s head. ]
For making me look stupid.
no subject
[ Ow. That's not so nice, but let's be real: he deserved that.
Akira's surprise is momentarily plain on his face, hand coming up towards the back of his head, but it soon transforms into dry amusement. ]
... Fair. Sorry about that. [ He's still not sure where it came from. ]
no subject
[ at least he can recognize that, too. ]
You understood it quickly.
no subject
[ He glances down at his own watch again. ]
We had something like these, back home. [ And to illustrate, he pulls out his switched-off phone. ]
no subject
a block
but, you don’t need any more of his ire today. he looks interested enough (no, he really does look interested. you have shown a neanderthal fire. ]
What kind of energy does it run on?
no subject
[ That probably sounds like gibberish, but don't ask him to explain it. Akira has no idea how it actually works. ]
I'd turn it on, but it's almost out of energy and I don't think I can recharge it here... [ He slides it back into his bag. ] It can't call here, anyway.
[ Now he peers over at Eren. ] You really don't have anything like this in... [ A pause, recalling. ] Paradis?
no subject
but, since that seems pretty clear already, eren won’t . . . push, not this time. he doesn’t even know the basics, he can’t hope to understand the mechanics even if he. well. hoped he would. ]
We have radios now. They’re— they have wires. [ he just blatantly doesn’t know how it works beyond some nerd lingo and the use of “wavelengths”. It’s complicated. ] And we can send messages to other bases.
no subject
Then think of it like an advanced radio without wires. [ That also runs on magic. Akira also doesn't actually know how that works, but he's not going to question it. At least not right now.
He thinks about telling Eren that it can send written messages, too, but... probably best not to overload him. ] ... You'll figure it out.
[ His gaze shifts towards the door. ] Are you thinking about going to that festival?
no subject
but, not for the festival. eren looks up for the watch and is actually glad for what he sees as faith in him, apparently a caveman. his brows scrunch, and he does plan to go through the door, walking towards it, but . . . ]
Not for the festival. [ there was. way too much going on for him to think about festivities. ] I’m going to map the place out. [ . . . ] Are you?
no subject
Breaks are important, after all, and with the day he's been through, he thinks he needs one. ]
Yeah, I want to check it out. [ Something he should get on before the sun starts to rise. ] I'll see you around? I'd like to hear if you find anything interesting.
[ He'd ask Eren to call him in the event of any such findings, BUT..... ]
no subject
We’re all on the same boat. [ consider him on a call list, even if it isn’t actually voiced. He’s about to turn to leave, but then swerves back around. ] —It was nice to meet you.
[ watch in his hand— he gestures. don’t worry, you’re forgiven. ]
no subject
Nice meeting you.
[ And he heads out the door, off towards the sounds of the festivities. ]
