a. [ it's not a bad job to have, by any means — being a barista is easy, dealing with customers is easy, and the pay is not bad. and the kittens are cute, of course!
one day, she brings something with her to work; a snowglobe that she sets at one of the counters, out of the way enough to not disturb the work, but close enough that she can see it during the days. inside the snowglobe, there's ocean waves crashing on its insides, as a ship with a lion's head at its front and a skull with a straw hat on it painted on its sails fights against the waves. all around it, snow keeps falling slowly. ]
b. [ when she's not taking a break with petting kittens, nami is actually, you know, doing her job as a barista. when a customer approaches her, she greets them with a beaming smile and, ]
Hi, what can I get you?
[ or, if it happens to be someone she already knows, ] Oh, hey, it's you!
[ ... politeness really isn't a pirate's strength, okay. ]
ii. all about onigashima ; the coven
[ in her free time, nami still attends magic classes, but spends her time training both physical fighting skills as well as magical. this particular day, she can be found sitting in a large courtyard after practising; there's scorch marks all over the ground. nami twirls her clima-tact in her hand idly... and upon seeing someone else enter the courtyard, she says, ]
Hey... what do you think it takes to defeat a really, really large dragon?
[ not that she's going to be the one fighting kaido... but if she can get her friends any pointers at all, that'd be great. ]
iii. behave, garden! ; nami's house
[ should anyone walk past a small, unassuming house that nami calls home, here, they might see that a patch of the garden is kept warm with spells even during winter, and there a patch of vegetables grows... in relative peace.
"relative", because sometimes, the vegetables in question require some encouragement. ]
Oi, stop that! You're supposed to be growing, not running around! Tangerine, stop chasing them!!
[ neither nami's sheep-like cauliflowers nor her cat seem to listen to her at all, running around her in a circle. eventually, she just sits down and sighs, leaning her chin on her hand. ]
Haaaahh.... I'm really not made to be a farmer.
iv. have you met sanji-kun? ; around the city ( note: responses come from both nami and sanji! )
[ whereas some months ago, nami would be seen on her own most of the time, nowadays it's not too rare to spot her accompanied by a slim, blonde man with a notably curly eyebrow. she bosses him around mercilessly, more often than not making him carry all the bags from their shopping trips... not that he seems to mind too much.
but should anyone run into them as they're out and about, especially if it's someone nami already knows, she's quick to greet them with a grin and a wave. ]
Hi! It's good to see you! Ah — [ then, glancing at her companion, ] This is Sanji-kun, our crew's cook! [ and from the bright, bright smile on her face, it's easy to see she's glad she's no longer the only straw hat in this world. ]
v. wildcard
[ you know what to do! hit me up, or pm me here or on plurk @celen to plan for something specific! ]
i return from hiatus!
[Sometimes, after a hard day of your stupid wings getting caught in a door, or not letting you sit in chairs normally, or nearly freezing off because they're sensitive to cold, a fresh meal can be really, err... refreshing.
Ferran steps a little closer to the garden, drawn in by the conversation and the temperature.]
I wonder how they grew in the first place, now that you say that, though... It can't be anything too complicated, right? Or whoever it was probably would have come after us for taking them in.
welcome back!
[ she's a more scientific-minded person, and so there's a touch of annoyance in her tone there... she just hates when there's no logical explanation to how things work!
she notices the way he keeps stepping closer, and with a grin, ]
Do you want to come in for a bit? I mean, it is pretty cold, today. If you want to get warm, I don't mind!
thanks!
[Ferran replies with an equal amount of exasperation. Magic is fine as long as it's not complete nonsense, but it so often tends to be, in his book...
He does perk up when he's invited in, eyebrows rising.]
Oh, could I? [His groceries need to get home, but... a few minutes isn't going to really change anything. He should get to know more friendly people in the city, anyway.] The winter here has been worse than what I'm used to, so it feels like I'm shivering half the time.
[He doesn't mention the moth wings covered up by his cloak and how sensitive they seem to the cold, in part because it's unnecessary and partly because he's been particularly averse to adding the phrase my wings into his vocabulary. If he doesn't have to confront them directly he can pretend everything is fine!]
so sorry for the delay here!!
to the question, nami nods with a light laugh. ]
Of course! I wouldn't offer otherwise, right? Besides, it's not good to be out there if you're about to freeze! I can make you a cup of tea, too.
[ it's really no bother! and if this helps her get to know someone else who seems to be pretty nice... then that's just a plus. ]
no prob :>
That would be wonderful, thank you.
[But he can't forget his manners, especially when he's being invited inside.]
I'm Ferran, by the way. I live closer to the west side of the Haven, so it does take a while to get home from shopping, most of the time...
<3
I'm Nami! It's nice to meet you, Ferran. But that is a long way... you weren't very practical when you picked a place to live!
[ especially if he gets cold easily... the poor thing. ]

It was a bit of an impulse decision, but it's definitely worth it when you finally get there.
[Things to also not bring up: how much of an absolute desperate mess he was when he first arrived, and how much the idea of a luxurious, big house was appealing to him at the time. ... it's still appealing, even if the travel aspect is inconvenient.]
Plus, if I lived too much closer, I wouldn't have met you today, Nami.
no subject
Hm, I guess... well, maybe if I ever consider moving, I'll see what that side of town has to offer! I've never been a big fan of huge houses. [ it's never been her style, strangely enough, for someone who loves money and jewelry as much as she.
at the compliment, she bats her lashes and touches her cheek with her fingertips. ]
Aw, aren't you a charmer! Come, make yourself comfortable, I'll get the tea brewing.

[People like their luxuries differently! Ferran may have a lot of opinions on architecture and interior design, but for the most part he won't judge someone for their tastes in living space.
With a brighter smile at her reaction, Ferran lets out a quiet chuckle and sets down his grocery bag, sitting in whatever available seat—although if it's a chair with a back, he's forced to sit sideways in it, and he doesn't take off his cloak either way.
He does mask the scent of the food in his bag with an illusion, in case any unruly cats get tired of chasing vegetable sheep and decide to make something less mobile their prey. Hopefully moth wing tails aren't appealing, either. Having to worry about a new set of appendages has been driving him a little crazy... A distraction is in order.]
Have you been here a while?
no subject
[ especially at the start, when it was just her, on her own. back before she even had tangerine to keep her company.
luckily for him, there's a few benches available in the garden! and though tangerine does pause in her playtime to watch him carefully for a moment... soon she continues chasing the vegetables happily.
nami's answer comes a little delayed, through the window — she's making tea, but luckily the kitchen opens to the garden so she only has to raise her voice slightly to be heard. ]
Mm, I would say it's been... half a year? A little more than that?
no subject
[It just feels natural to Ferran, though—and if he ever gets particularly lonely, his solution has always been to head out somewhere public or invite his friends over.
Although he watches Tangerine with a mild smile, Nami's response regains his attention and he turns to the window to reply.]
It's only been a couple of months for me. Do you feel like you've gotten used to living here at all, yet?
no subject
[ that was how she had come to see it — and having made friends with people here had helped, too. ]
It's not so bad, once you get used to the idea. How about you? Have you found it getting any easier?
no subject
In some ways, I guess.
[His brand-new wings aren't helping—they're a constant uncomfortable reminder of the situation, even if he does manage to hide them decently well under his cloak. But not every part of living here has been miserable, and he has had a decent day, considering the rest.]
I've met a lot of nice people, anyway, and I've got something like a normal routine. That's probably the most I can ask for.
no subject
as she comes back out, carrying a tray of tea and some of sanji's cookies, she continues, ]
The people make it a lot easier! I was on my own with no one from home for a long while... but making friends here made it bearable. And now it actually makes me sad, knowing that if I go home, I won't see them again.
no subject
... yeah. You just have to appreciate the time you have with them, right?
[Whatever mood that was passes easily enough from his expression. Dwelling on the negative isn't going to help him, as easy as it is to sink into. He brightens up at the snacks, instead.]
Oh, cookies? You're spoiling me.
