Oh, Sylvia. [She greets her pleasantly with a nod, a long staff balanced in her hands.] Yes, though I have never battled gourds before.
[Speaking of which there's a scream in the distance as one of the farmers narrowly avoids getting his hand chomped off by one of the pumpkins, it's toothy maw opening again for another bite.]
We should move.

Yeah, let's go!
[ She runs over to the farmer, trying to come up with some kind of plan. She's never been good with strategy but they can't be uncoordinated when they do this. The pumpkin's also tangling its vines around his feet, which isn't good either. ]
I'll hold the pumpkin off if you can take care of the vines!

Apologies! [Teamwork is still a New Thing for her. Speaking of, the pumpkin doesn't seem too phased by the fire - a scorched burn mark on it's side making the thing roar an enraged sound, tightening it's vines around the man as three other pumpkins nearby respond to the cry, tottering over on their strange vine-legs.]
Oh no. I'll... I'll distract the others, you help the farmer!
[What is coordination?]

Time to follow her instructions. ]
Okay, sure!
[ She bends down and uses her knife to start cutting through the vines frantically, trying her best to be careful so as to not hurt him. ]
If you need backup just yell for me!

[she calls back, then turns to the pumpkins. A distraction ah… how to distract a pumpkin?]
Hey… you… large gourds! [She says in a loud, staggered voice as she waves her staff around. If the pumpkins had eyes it felt like they were all on her.] If you don’t behave then… then we’ll have to squash you!
[Pun not intended. About half of the pumpkins seem to fall to the bait and there’s a handful of snapping teeth in her direction, and she hops from one foot to the other, making space between them. One gets too close and it gets a hearty thwack with her staff, sending the thing flying a few feet.]
How is it going, Sylvia!

And then she watches Allura smack one of the pumpkins several feet, and Sylvia can't help but watch, dumbfounded. ]
Whoa.
[ Dang, girl. ]
I think I've got him -- [ One more vine-! ] there!
[ The farmer lets out a horrified whimper before he gets onto his feet and bolts out of there. Sylvia stands up and gets next to Allura. ]
Alright, Sylvia, joining the fray!

Working together, it doesn’t take much time to vanquish the rest of the bloodthirsty pumpkins. Blasting fire and smacking them with their weapons, and when the dust (and pumpkin seed) has cleared, the field is a (rather slippery) mess of pumpkin guts and thrashed vines.
With a sigh, Allura sits in a relatively clean section of garden, and picks a piece of pumpkin out of her hair,]
I think that is all of them. [Looking over at Sylvia,] I didn’t know you had it in you, Sylvia.
no subject
Heh...really? Well, I didn't know you were a fighter yourself, Princess.
[ She gives her a grin. ]
Who taught you those moves?

All members of Altean royalty are trained in basic combat. We have to be ready at a moment’s notice to defend others from evil.
[Plucking a piece of pumpkin off of herself, she drops it on the ground.] Or- from vegetables at least.
But you were impressive in your own right, Sylvia. Those aren’t the skills of a novice.

[ She vaguely knows about the war back where they're from, so Allura must've put that combat expertise to use at some point before coming here. ]
I guess our situations are kind of similar? I'm not royalty, but I trained for a really long time myself. Honestly, I thought I was getting kind of rusty, so I'm glad for the praise! Heh.
[ She gives Allura a cheeky grin. ]
This gave pumpkin carving a whole new meaning, huh?
