KILLUA I forgot its a full moon tongiht and im a little bit worried, I dunno whats gonna happen but i know its probably better/safer/ect if Im around a witch Im bonded to.... Are you home??? Sorry for the short notice!! Its my first one :-(
[dummy, Killua knows that; he's been here with you the whole time...]
[ Of course he knows. And he's been wondering all day if they should make some sort of arrangements, waiting for Gon to ask. But despite his expectations, Gon hadn't reached out by the time it was nearing sundown, so Killua was just trying to figure out how to ask him instead--
And then he gets Gon's messages. Ah.
He forgot. Killua was over here being anxious on his behalf, and Gon wasn't even paying attention!! ]
Oh you were waiting ? wow I THOUGHT IT WAS STILL THE 2ND okay yes be there soon!!
[Gon had a feeling that if Killua agreed to Gon's request, he'd say something like that—so he already has his bag packed and ready to go, and he makes quick work of jogging down to Killua's place.
he's not sure why he feels so anxious. he's been a little worried about it, but now it feels a little overwhelming. he assumes that being in Killua's company will help assuage the irrational worry. after all, there wasn't anything Gon could do except for accept whatever happened; panicking was useless, and not like him.
antsy, Gon wraps his knuckles on Killua's door, ears folded back in anticipation.]
[ Killua doesn't even bother pretending he wasn't waiting anxiously by the door. He opens it immediately.
He can feel the echo of Gon's anxiety too, both of their uncertainty about tonight reverberating back and forth across the Bond. It feels like a bad feedback loop, but Killua's ability to recognize it doesn't mean he can quell the feelings.
Gon looks so unlike himself when he's nervous, those big, fuzzy new ears of his pressed back. They're a dead giveaway, even if his voice hadn't been. ]
There's no need to whine. Get in here.
[ Killua ushers him inside, shutting the door behind him. On second thought, he locks it too. ]
They still doing all the festivals and parties outside tonight too?
Gon slips inside eagerly, already feeling some relief just being around someone he trusts, strong and capable enough to handle anything that.... goes wrong. Gon regrets not inquiring more about full moon behavior on his a few weeks ago...]
Yeah, it seems like it...
I mean, I doubt it's actually all that unsafe, since everyone still seems active...
[but not knowing what to expect in general, it's clear that Gon doesn't quite trust himself. he carefully shimmies off his bag, placing it by the entrance of Killua's entrance.]
It's probably gonna be another hour or so before anything weird happens to me, I figured, based on the position of the moon right now?
Really? [ Killua looks a bit surprised. But then again, the people who aren't native to this place are a tiny minority of the population -- and they're the ones unused to their changes and probably most at risk of unsafe behavior due to them. Maybe it's not surprising that the natives don't let the moons interrupt their festivities. ]
I guess it depends on the individual. It's not like people talk about the full moons being some horrible, dangerous time. The other Mirrorbound like us who I asked mentioned the biggest danger was being without a Bond for too long.
[ His cheeks heat as he remembers their own Bonding ceremony not that long again. ]
...and we took care of that.
You'll be fine.
[ He's also done some research on what's supposed to help someone struggling with the full moons or ferality. Which makes the pink linger in his cheeks. ]
[Gon catches how Killua's cheeks bloom with that pretty pink color that seems so unique to his pallor. it reminds him of spring blooms, so rejuvenating to behold in the first place just the same. such that it makes Gon's smile grow, even if his eyes tuck away from the sight itself. Gon's glad Killua has overall become a more confident, more outspoken person... but it's also nice he still has this side too, Gon's reminded.]
Yeah, natives don't seem all that worried about it... but they've had a lifetime to prepare for it, right?
[and Gon doesn't know what a "normal person" in this world is compared to their world, but Gon wonders if even in this place, he's an anomaly—but regardless, whatever the case, Gon trusts Killua to be able to handle whatever comes of it.]
But yeah, you're right; I'll be fine, since we made a Bond.
[and classically, Killua pivots the subject. Gon isn't mad about it; he knows how Killua is. he beams, ears flipping upwards. seems Gon's mood has turned right around, now that he's with Killua...]
A little!! I could snack. I had some dinner earlier, but I had a big workout today.
[While Rikku isn't exactly close with Killua, she's had a few friendly interactions with him during her witch classes at the Coven. They've partnered together on a few things during the actual coursework, and she cheerfully falls into step besides him as they are leaving in the late afternoon.]
Hey there! Headed home?
[As they step out of the Coven building, a cacophony of revelment can be heard not too far away. It seems a house party celebrating who-knows-what has started to spill into the streets, complete with partiers in various states of inebriating singing, dancing, and waving over anyone and everyone to join the festivities.
Rikku would be lying if she said the idea of checking it out didn't appeal to her.]
Ooooor do you wanna go see what those guys are doing?
Hey! [ Killua was stretching his arms above his head, and he lets go of the stretch with a smile, sticking his hands in his pockets while Rikku falls into step beside him. ]
Uh, yeah, I guess.
[ Why? He looks over at his fellow new Witch, tilting his head curiously. The suggestion makes his gaze flick to the party-goers, eyes narrowing thoughtfully, though not without interest. ]
Not like I have anything else to do. It's some sort of festival this week, isn't it?
[Rikku happily takes that as a resounding "yes" and beams a bit. She knew she liked this guy for some reason.]
Some kind of festival about weddings, I think? I'm still learning the holidays and everything here.
[A 'whoop!' spreads through the party-goers as they cheer on...something. Rikku can't make out what it is, but apparently whatever just happened was amazing.]
Whatever it is, it looks like fun! Come on!
[She grabs Killua's arm and starts making her way over to the party.]
[ Killua pulls his arm away grumpily, but he does indeed follow after Rikku, after sticking his hands in his pockets. He doesn't struggle with the pace or weaving through the crowd even if they're not holding onto each other. ]
I don't really see what the point is in having a whole festival about weddings. Is everyone supposed to get married in the same month? It's weird.
[Rikku doesn't complain about Killua pulling his arm away, if only because he continues to follow and keep pace. No need to drag him if he doesn't need to be dragged, after all.
She considers his points as they approach the partygoers.]
A lot of things in this city are weird. It would make remembering your anniversary a lot easier, I guess?
And I don't know what a hand fasting is. The only thing I can think of is that your hands don't eat during the ceremony, which doesn't make any sense. That's not how hands or fasts work.
[She turns to the closest partier and shouts to be heard over the noise.]
HEY, WHAT'S A HANDFASTING?
["It's about love, baby girl! You and your boyfriend looking to do it?" is the reply she gets, along with two drinks of unknown composition. Without waiting for a response, he continues onward with whatever it is he's doing aside from conveniently showing up for this tag. Rikku shouts after him.]
Right? That's what I thought of too! It sounds so stupid!
[ Considering the content of the festival, the answer itself when it arrives from the too-enthusiastic stranger isn't surprising-- but the way he says it and the assumption are.
Killua's eyes go wide, cheeks heating up bright pink. ]
Wh-what?! We're not together, you creep!
[ Killua shouts after him too, at the same time as Rikku thankfully also protests. ]
As it turns out, not being automatically filthy rich and having to worry about money for once in his life is actually kind of a pain in the ass. So when Killua spots the request for help gathering supplies from a rare, dangerous animal out in the Wilde for a hefty compensation, it's a no-brainer -- this is the perfect plan to get rich quick!
He'll be making trips out into the Wilde a few times throughout the month.
a. The bitter cold is kind of annoying (and unexpected, when the city has been so damn hot), and he ends up having to buy extra clothing, which turns out to not be enough after all. Well, not enough to be comfortable. He can survive just fine even in freezing temperatures, thanks to his thorough training, but it doesn't mean he likes it.
If he's traveling in search of the reclusive deer with a fellow Witch, perhaps one with more experience, Killua turns to them to ask:
"Hey, do you know any enchantments to enhance these gloves? My fingers are freezing, ugh."
b. For a teenager, Killua's clearly alarmingly experienced in stalking and killing his prey, but he's not the type to rush in without thinking. Thankfully, he paid full attention to the quest information, and he knows it's a bad idea to hurt the deer. All they need to do is be fast and sneaky enough to grab the fruit and dash away.
For now, he conceals his presence, crouched in some shriveled, snow-laden foliage as he observes the small herd of white deer. While he waits for his move, perhaps he realizes he's not alone.
Is another hunter stalking the same prey? Or did he come here with someone else who got separated? For anyone rushing in with the intent to harm the creatures, they're either in for an unpleasant time if they succeed, or a rude interruption when Killua leaps out of the bushes to grab them.
(( ooc: wildcards welcome! Killua will be going back and forth a few times, so feel free to assume he either connected with your character through the quest pickup somehow if you want them to have made plans earlier, or just ran into each other in the woods while looking for the deer. I'm flexible! if you have questions or ideas you want to discuss, pls PM this journal or hit me up at gunsandchocolate ))
Back home, these deer wouldn't have posed a problem. His Signs would be more than enough to keep them calm while he picks the fruit. It's different now. A vague annoyance, but at least he's got Jaskier's little magic devices for assistance. Geralt's not about to say it out loud to the bard (his bonded now, which is a thought he isn't reflecting on at the moment), but they're useful.
He's got one of them with him now: a round grenade-like object that releases a sleeping cloud into the air. He's waiting behind a thicket of bushes and trees when it seems they both realize at the same time they're not alone. His eyes flick upwards, not so much seeing who's there as catching his scent in the air.
Geralt pauses. He doesn't know if the boy realizes the deer can't be wounded or not, but either way, he doesn't want to knock him out with the deer. Waiting until he can catch the boy's gaze, he gestures for him to come over this way.
It seems he's not the only one after this prey. A minor annoyance. Killua's brows draw together in a faint scowl when he meets the gaze of the stranger hunting the same herd, but he realizes that at this point, their best option is to split the loot. Killua's not about to give up, and if he tries to move first and causes a ruckus or tries to chase off the stranger, it's more than likely the deer will escape.
Making a show of rolling his eyes, he acquiesces. Fine. He'll go over there.
Silently, Killua slinks around the edges of the clearing where the deer are resting, moving quickly but somehow almost entirely soundlessly. When he gets close enough, he mouths without speaking, making sure not to alert the deer: What are you doing?
His goal here was the fruit. Or it had been. Then Geralt sees him move and his attention is suddenly diverted. It's not that he's never seen anyone move so silently with ease. It's that the only time he's seen it is in another Witcher.
He watches the boy through the brush. After a second, he holds up the round metal ball, not yet triggered. It sits in his palm, no larger than an apple. (Jaskier had assured him a proper blacksmith had produced the shell this time.) Then he tips his head towards the lazing deer.
That's all the explanation he gives before he rolls the object gently across the ground. It slows to a stop near the deer, hidden in the tall grass. A quiet click sounds before a puff of smoke is released in the air. The dusting powder settles over the deer. Steadily, they slump over -- though the rise and fall of their bodies makes it clear they're still alive.
Hmm. That is much better than the last one Jaskier had given him, which had effectively blown up in his damn face.
Geralt plucks off one fruit of a deer slumbering near his feet. He tosses it over to the boy. The flash of nails sharpened into claws can be glimpsed. "Something tells me you didn't need the magic."
Killua has no idea what that ball is. He frowns, opening his mouth as if to argue, but--
Ah. Too late. There it goes.
Startled by the smoke, Killua instantly jumps back further -- closer to the man who'd thrown it, with the assumption he'll have done so in a way that wouldn't affect him and so being in the same place will prevent whatever the smoke is from reaching him too.
"Magic?" He stares incredulously at the deer, now obviously knocked out. "What kind of magic is that? It's like a weird sleep smoke bomb. Where'd you get it?"
Killua hadn't even considered looking for something like that. He's been learning magic at the Coven but focusing on actual spellwork, not enchanted items. This is a whole new area to explore.
In any case--
"Yeah, no. I was just gonna grab 'em and go. But I guess you made it easier to get more in one trip. Not that it matters. I'm still taking half!"
It's not his fault he was interrupted. He still tracked the deer here fair and square, and definitely looks ready to argue if this guy thinks otherwise.
The glimpse of pointed teeth when he speaks suggests he's not the one who enchanted it. He doesn't bring up Jaskier as his bonded, largely because the topic still feels private to him. Perhaps it says something that he's even referred to Jaskier as a friend at all, for once.
Either way, he's not here to fuss about who gets what. Especially not with a kid. His eyebrow lifts and he simply pockets one of the fruit. Even a handful is plenty of coin. He's got not much to worry about here, anyway, with free lodgings and plenty to hunt in the summer weather.
"Mm-hmm." They're easy enough to gather, though there's not a lot of time, either: the deer will stir in just a couple of minutes. "Just be quick about it."
Bernie wasn't there to hurt the deer. Instead, she was trying so hard to keep her focus when the cold was doing terrible things to her body. The Fae were weak to the bitter chills and she was really struggling despite the extra layers. Shivering, she watched the pretty creature, completely unaware that she wasn't alone.
Rubbing her arms, she tilted her head as she wondered what to do, antennae twitching thoughtfully. She shouldn't rush in, that was for sure. Doing so would scare the poor thing.
With a nod, Bernie looked up then quietly flew up into the branches of a tree to get a better vantage point for her plan.
This was not the plan. Killua glares silently at the intruder, considering what to do. She's going to scare the creatures off and then all his hard work will have been for nothing.
On top of that, the insectoid appearance of his unwitting companion makes his skin crawl. It makes it harder to make a sound judgement, no matter how much he'd like to deny that. Killua knows by now what Fae are. He's seen a couple here and there, though very rarely, and despite the knowledge they're not the same, the reaction is instinctive. The similarities in appearance are an uncomfortable reminder that always gets his heart rate up in a way he'd never want to admit. It's stupid. He won't let it distract him.
When the Fae girl flutters upward into one of the nearby trees, Killua makes his move. If he went after the deer and she made a noise or tried to go after them too, they'd scatter; if he called out, they'd be alerted too. The only thing he can do right now is make sure they both remain quiet.
Killua doesn't have any wings, but he doesn't need them to get into the tree. He jumps, catching one of the branches and quickly, quietly scrambling up. The goal, if he can get behind the girl without her noticing, is to creep up and press a hand over her mouth from behind.
In the tree, she was looking around for how best to keep the animals calm. A good illusion would work. She could move in close then and gently remove the material she needed without them coming to harm or being afraid. This was what Bernie was just about to do when a hand suddenly came over her mouth.
A part of her wanted to scream. Another part of her didn't want to scare the poor animals. Her instinct for the latter won out and she froze up, just turning her head a little to look at...
...the...boy?
She looked about ready to bolt but she stayed. To see if it was safe to bolt honestly.
Keeping the girl still with the hand over her mouth and holding her securely back against his chest, Killua raised his other with a finger to his lips in a clear be quiet sign.
He looked back down at the deer; they were still peacefully hanging out in the clearing, minding their own deer business, apparently none the wiser. Good.
Getting close so he could just barely whisper in her ear, Killua decided to make sure she understood, realizing she'd probably gotten freaked out by his sudden move. He wouldn't blame her for it, but he didn't want her to ruin his chance at getting all that cash.
"They'll run if you make noise. So don't scream when I let go. Okay?"
Swallowing, she nodded her head rapidly. Honestly she had no idea what his intentions even were. Was he going to kill her? Goddess, he was. But that didn't make sense because he could have already if he wanted to do that. And he didn't want to scare the...
Wait, was he here about the deer too?
Eyes still wide, she went completely still while she waited for him to lower his hand. But she wasn't going to scream. She wouldn't!
...just really loudly internally. Which totally didn't count!

A part of her wanted to scream. Another part of her didn't want to scare the poor animals. Her instinct for the latter won out and she froze up, just turning her head a little to look at...
...the...boy?
She looked about ready to bolt but she stayed. To see if it was safe to bolt honestly.

Okay?"

Wait, was he here about the deer too?
Eyes still wide, she went completely still while she waited for him to lower his hand. But she wasn't going to scream. She wouldn't!
...just really loudly internally. Which totally didn't count!
