When: Backdated to Juril 28th
Where: Voltron House in the Haven
What: Lance's 18th birthday party!
Warnings: n/a for now
Welcome!
[This isn’t quite the house party that Lance would’ve thrown for himself back on earth (he would’ve at least had a stereo going with some modern music), but he can make his own fun in Aefenglom, too. He made sure to post a message on the network beforehand inviting Mirrorbound to the party, so everyone's welcome to join in on the fun! There’s a good chance he won’t turn you away no matter who you are, unless you're looking to shut down the party. He might even be a little petty if you ask him to lower the noise level...but the choice is yours! ]
Weapons Security
[ Have fun getting past Kolivan and Keith who are collecting weapons at the door, though. That’s right: Keith and Kolivan (who is standing at over eight feet tall) are both at the entrance and are asking people to leave their weapons there. Maybe you’ll comply with their demands, or maybe you’ll take this as a challenge. Maybe you don't even have weapons on you! Whatever the case may be, Lance is busy socializing, so he won’t be bothered with security unless specifically requested. You’ll have to answer to these two instead. Good luck! ]
Birthday Cake
[ Over in the dining room is an assortment of refreshments, including a lovely birthday cake! It looks like it might’ve been ordered from a bake shop with the decorations, the frosting placement, and the gradient that fades from blue to white. Bernadetta von Varley can be seen slicing the cake and putting each slice on a dainty little plate for everyone to enjoy! It’s vanilla, too. Grab yourself a slice and enjoy! (It'll make Bernie very happy!) ]
Magic Show
[ That’s not all, though. In fact, in the middle of the party, Lance and Trucy Wright start encouraging people to come to the ballroom. Dressed in fancy, sparkly jackets, the two of them are ready to put on their very own magic show! Trucy introduces herself, and then Lance as her very own assistant -- who woulda thunk -- and after a little razzle dazzle of an intro, they begin.
Their first trick is known as the Zig Zag Girl, which isn’t too far off from the saw-in-half trick. For this performance, Lance and Trucy call up two volunteers (including you!) from the audience. Volunteer A holds a saw while the Volunteer B steps into a box. After Trucy instructs Volunteer A to saw into the box into thirds, Lance will then pull the middle section out and present the second volunteer appearing as though their body is also divided into thirds! Spooky. (The saw and the box are covered in illusion magic!)
Trucy and Lance also add some other tricks to their performance, like pulling a dove out from an empty pan and playing card magic. They'll also be doing a trick known as Assistant's Revenge as the finale, in which Lance gets trapped in a box and somehow does a miraculous switcheroo with Trucy, trapping her in the box instead! ]
Mingling
[ Lance will encourage everyone to get to know one another, chat, and make friends! For the most part the party takes place in the ballroom, but in the yard is a swimming pool, charged purely by magic. It’s not perfectly made, but it’s there for everyone to use to cool off from the heat wave. ]

I was tempted! But I wasn't completely sure about the state of your romantic life...I would've felt bad getting you something to use with a partner if you were all alone... [Okay, that is absolutely Momo taking the piss, the way he clutches his hands against his cheeks like this is the biggest woe in human history, but he manages to sell it without laughing.
As for what the present actually is, it's a spice rack made of some kind of rippled bluish glass that makes it look oceanic, containing an assortment of spice vials (and a few sauces) from the Underground. The glass itself smells faintly spicy despite how much it must have been worked to make a rack out of.]

[ it's not. it's budding but it's not quite there yet!! lance shoots him a pout and a huff before he gets back to opening the present and -- ]
Whoa...
[ now this brings a smile to his face. it seems like a simple gift, but knowing the experience they shared together trying that wormipede meat makes this all the more meaningful and special. ]
This is -- wow, this was really thoughtful, Momo. Seriously! I'm gonna use these in, well, pretty much everything I cook now!
[ he lets out a laugh before his smile turns a little softer, more sincere. he tucks the wrapping under his arm before he looks right a momo with that warm expression. ]
Thank you.

Lance's reaction relieves him of that worry, though, and he grins in a sunny and sincere manner right back.] I'm glad you like it! I thought the way you talked about that cooking sounded like you knew what you were doing, so I thought this would be a nice addition to whatever herbs and spices you had already.
[Yuki is the best cook he knows and has a habit of trying to get to the bottom of the flavours in anything he eats and likes, so Lance's reaction had rung a bell in that sense.]

[ he definitely wouldn't say he's the best cook but god, between him and everyone else in the voltron house, someone's gotta cook! kolivan doesn't add flavoring, keith just cooks with the intent of not burning the house down, shiro can't cook at all and allura can't be trusted to cook alone. ]
This gives me an idea, actually -- I can pay you back for treating me at the Underground by making you something really delicious! How's that sound?

[Momo cups his cheeks in an overly innocent motion which is actually just celebrating being able to be lazy about the one thing he accepts being lazy about, a.k.a. anything household related. He can cook enough to get by, he just needs a recipe right next to him, and finding everything needed can be a chore when your living style is Organised Chaos. Also he has some pretty major gaps in his knowledge like thinking you can keep a fish frozen for a year and have it still be edible.]
You don't have to pay me back, but if you want to then that sounds fine to me! Or actually, have you gotten into any particular foods since becoming a Merrow? I could maybe use some advice on that...
[He looks kind of thoughtful now. He's spoken to one or two Merrows since Yuki came back and started turning into one again, but that was more about other topics than food.]

Particular foods? Mm, for me...not really, actually. My tastes still feel the same--
[ then, he pauses. his eyes go wide, and his hands go onto his cheeks. ]
Wait, is that a thing that's supposed to change?! I don't wanna eat fish food forever!
[ i mean, at least he has the spices to help with his food if he does? and this is very unhelpful, considering momo was the one who asked for advice, and lance is just answering this with more questions... ]

That's what I was trying to ask you! If you haven't had it happen then it's probably fine! [Considering what Momo's heard about people's experiences trying to research stuff about Monsters, he's taken to just...asking monsters who've been around long enough to have things happen.] It's just that my darling is turning into a merrow as well, so if it was a thing that happened I would've liked to warn him. Especially since he's a vegetarian...I don't know what octopi eat, but I don't think they're vegetarians?
[Important questions about undersea life that Momo apparently should've asked before he got here. He's ninety percent sure they eat tiny fish or something, though.]
