Welcome!

[This isn’t quite the house party that Lance would’ve thrown for himself back on earth (he would’ve at least had a stereo going with some modern music), but he can make his own fun in Aefenglom, too. He made sure to post a message on the network beforehand inviting Mirrorbound to the party, so everyone's welcome to join in on the fun! There’s a good chance he won’t turn you away no matter who you are, unless you're looking to shut down the party. He might even be a little petty if you ask him to lower the noise level...but the choice is yours! ]

Weapons Security

[ Have fun getting past Kolivan and Keith who are collecting weapons at the door, though. That’s right: Keith and Kolivan (who is standing at over eight feet tall) are both at the entrance and are asking people to leave their weapons there. Maybe you’ll comply with their demands, or maybe you’ll take this as a challenge. Maybe you don't even have weapons on you! Whatever the case may be, Lance is busy socializing, so he won’t be bothered with security unless specifically requested. You’ll have to answer to these two instead. Good luck! ]

Birthday Cake

[ Over in the dining room is an assortment of refreshments, including a lovely birthday cake! It looks like it might’ve been ordered from a bake shop with the decorations, the frosting placement, and the gradient that fades from blue to white. Bernadetta von Varley can be seen slicing the cake and putting each slice on a dainty little plate for everyone to enjoy! It’s vanilla, too. Grab yourself a slice and enjoy! (It'll make Bernie very happy!) ]

Magic Show

[ That’s not all, though. In fact, in the middle of the party, Lance and Trucy Wright start encouraging people to come to the ballroom. Dressed in fancy, sparkly jackets, the two of them are ready to put on their very own magic show! Trucy introduces herself, and then Lance as her very own assistant -- who woulda thunk -- and after a little razzle dazzle of an intro, they begin.

Their first trick is known as the Zig Zag Girl, which isn’t too far off from the saw-in-half trick. For this performance, Lance and Trucy call up two volunteers (including you!) from the audience. Volunteer A holds a saw while the Volunteer B steps into a box. After Trucy instructs Volunteer A to saw into the box into thirds, Lance will then pull the middle section out and present the second volunteer appearing as though their body is also divided into thirds! Spooky. (The saw and the box are covered in illusion magic!)

Trucy and Lance also add some other tricks to their performance, like pulling a dove out from an empty pan and playing card magic. They'll also be doing a trick known as Assistant's Revenge as the finale, in which Lance gets trapped in a box and somehow does a miraculous switcheroo with Trucy, trapping her in the box instead! ]

Mingling

[ Lance will encourage everyone to get to know one another, chat, and make friends! For the most part the party takes place in the ballroom, but in the yard is a swimming pool, charged purely by magic. It’s not perfectly made, but it’s there for everyone to use to cool off from the heat wave. ]

[ a lot of hard work has been put into the preparations for this party, not just by lance but from his housemates, too -- and bernie and trucy, of course. he's excited to get things started, so he's eagerly waiting around the front door for people to come. any early birds will be able to catch him there before the party really starts. assuming people have gotten past kolivan and keith, he'll be there with a wide smile on his face, pointy teeth and all. ]

Hey, thanks for coming! You ready for a good time?

[ alternatively, if he hasn't met you before, he'll greet you a bit differently instead and hold his hand out for a handshake: ]

I'm Lance, by the way. You know, the birthday boy. [ extra emphasis on that, too. ]

post-magic show

[ after lance and trucy have had their little performance, lance can be found still donning his sparkly blue coat. he's also got a deck of cards peeking out from his jacket pocket and he looks very pleased with himself. he goes up to the nearest person and asks: ]

So, what'd you think? That was pretty great, am I right? [ ...assuming they were around to watch the show, anyway. ] I'll even do another card trick for you if you ask nicely.

[ there's a little waggle of his eyebrows... and he's already preparing to take the card deck out of his jacket pocket. he's totally hamming it up in here. ]

wildcard

[ lance can be found pretty much anywhere at the party, so hit me up with whatever! ]

[Elliot knew Lance well enough that he thought it'd be only polite to stop by. Luckily, he doesn't give any trouble at the door about weapons, and he even brought a gift of seafood snacks for Lance (he couldn't think what else to get a merrow okay).

Right now? He's sitting on the edge of the magicked pool, his shoes off as he soaks his feet. He's got a shortsleeve and shorts on, and seems really happy to have a chance to cool off]

Ah, this feels so good...! Whoever thought this up is a genius.

Cannonbaaaaaaaaall!

[It's the only warning anybody is going to get before Akko more or less somersaults her way straight into the pool. With the heatwave in full, nasty swing, Akko's been melting with as much fur as she has. There have been times she's gotten real close to asking someone to start cutting some of it off. But she held back because surely this wouldn't last forever and who knows if her fur would grow back in time for it to start getting cold again? Just a bad idea all around.]

[But this pool? It's perfect.]

[Akko emerges from her aforementioned cannonball, splashing even more water around as she does so, but it's anyone's guess if she's even particularly aware of just how much water she's splashing around and if anyone around her really wants to get, you know, splashed.]

((ooc: you can also probably find akko trying to con herself a second slice of cake or being overenthusiastic about the magic show, too. but mostly, she's here for pool shenanigans. play some pool games with her or just get irritated with the amount of noise and splashing she's making. it won't bother her any! feel free to pm or hit up

[ At some point before the party is actually set to start, Lance might hear the sound of someone poking around the bathroom. If he comes to investigate, he'll find Keith peering at a bottle of one of Lance's skincare products.

The bottle has been placed on the sink next to the soap, and the look Keith is giving it is both suspicious and focused, like he's examining something that may be liable to bite him at any moment.

Elliot! Hey!

[ while lance isn't dressed in swimwear, he sits next to elliot, notably keeping himself out of the pool. he doesn't really feel like going into merrow form right now. lance has a small bag of the seafood snacks with him, too! ]

Man, this stuff is great. Seaweed snacks aren't all that bad!

Hey Lance! Happy birthday!

[He'll smile over at his friend as he sits down]

Really? I'm glad you like it! I wasn't exactly sure what merrow eat....

[ lance is making another round to the pool again, and it's great timing, too, because akko's cannonball manages to splash water all over the place. he's just out of its range to avoid turning into a merrow on the grass, but....

a cannonball sounds fun, especially in the heat. he smiles over at her with that toothy grin of his. ]

Akko, incoming!

[ soon, lance makes a dash for the water and launches himself inside. sure enough, akko will see the tip of a shark fin emerge from under the water before lance himself comes up to the surface. ]

Fan of the pool, huh? It came out pretty great if you ask me!

[ > proceed. absolutely.

lance himself needs to do his skincare routine still, which is why he's on his way to the bathroom. a guy's gotta look good for his own party, after all. he's fully expecting to take his time and give himself some extra care today.

what he isn't expecting is to see keith inside, examining the cluster of lance's products. oho.

there's a smirk on his face as he leans against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest. ]

You know, Keith, if you wanna try some, all you have to do is ask.

[ Lance gets exactly one syllable of that out when Keith startles and jumps, whirling away from the skincare products. ]

Lance!

[ Holy shit, he straightens up, trying hard to ignore the way heat is creeping up to his ears. ]

Don't do that.

[ he is not even remotely fazed by this and he keeps that shit-eating grin on his face. ]

Like I said, all you gotta do is ask!

[ he steps into the bathroom next to keith and puts his hands on his hips. ]

So what's gotten you so interested in --

It's perfect, don't worry about it! 'Sides, I'd appreciate the thought even if it wasn't.

[ which is...maybe not very reassuring but he means well... ]

How've you been, by the way? Got anything cool going on lately? Update me!

[ -- skincare, he almost says, but then a realization dawns on him. it's almost as extreme as the time he said "people" when keith asked him if he knew what vampires ate. ]

Wait, wait. Are you doing all of this to impress someone?

[ clearly there is no other reason why keith would be doing this. clearly. ]

[ Actually speechless with embarrassment, hold the phone. ]

[ Ok, deep breath, deep breath. He refuses to believe navigating his way out of this could be in any way harder than trying to infiltrate a Galra cruiser. Time to be so fucking cool.

He straightens up, matching Lance's posture with his hands on his own hips with a scowl.]

No. It's just.... Vampire things.

[ Nailed it. ]

[Akko manages to look over at Lance as he calls, breaking out into laughter and shielding herself (quite uselessly) against the splash with an arm. She's glad she's not the only person willing to make the pool fun instead of just a place to soak. If people wanna do that, they can go to the bathhouses, okay? Okay!]

It's perfect timing! [Akko agrees with a nod. She doesn't think she's ever experienced a summer this hot before.] And perfect for a birthday party! You're having a good time, right?

[Momo's at least swinging by to offer congratulations and a present and maybe schmooze around a bit - and his choice to leave his knife at home spares him grief at the weapons check, at least. He's not quite early, but he arrives just about when things are starting to pick up, giving Lance a cheery wave.]

Wouldn't be here if I wasn't! Happy birthday. [Momo offers him a wrapped present - a somewhat short box that might almost be mistaken for holding something like a desktop picture frame if it wasn't a bit too thick - and then feigns wiping a tear from his eye.] Eighteen...you're still so young and pure...

[He's at least half joking, considering he's making eighteen sound like positively a baby, but it is about the age of his youngest juniors now.]

Aha...well, that's nice of you to say.

[He is going to give Lance the benefit of the doubt that he meant well. Because Lance seems to be like a nice guy]

I've been alright! Mostly working...so it's not like I have many interesting updates to give.

[ It's Lance's birthday, and Yuma wouldn't miss it for the world. For some reason, the moment he got the news about the upcoming party, finding the perfect gift for Lance was the only thing on his mind. What Yuma eventually settled for, however, was something a little...different. After all, he couldn't really afford anything fancy, and whatever he could afford, Lance likely already had. "Unique" was the word of the day. He's also wearing the outfit that Lance bought for him some time ago; he's become quite fond of it.

It's a little awkward carrying his guitar with him (he'd sling it on his back, but his wings are in the way), but he manages to squeeze past some of the visitors as he makes his way over to where he last spotted Lance. ]

Lance! There you are!

[ Yuma hasn't been in high spirits like this for quite some time. Something about seeing Lance always puts him in a good mood, but today is particularly special. ]

A. The chill, open-ended one
[Where Allura might have started out helping with the party – directing people here or there, acting as a gracious host – eventually she's instructed by the birthday boy to take a load off and enjoy herself. And she does so in the form of sunbathing by the pool. Half to keep an eye on anyone causing any mischief outside, half to play lifeguard if needed

(She can't really take it easy for long.)

However, the allure (ha) of the summer sun eventually has her basking like a cat in the warmth. A rare perk of being planet-side is enjoying all that the weather has to give. Conveniently, she's set up on the side of the pool that has a handy shaded spot not too far away. Just in case any vampires want to visit.

Feel free to approach. Or to splash her. Her hair takes hours to dry so, proceed with caution.]

B. Important questions
[Eventually though, something occurs to her and she pulls one of the guests aside – anyone who looks trustworthy enough to ask a very important question. Dropping her voice to a whisper.]

Is eighteen years a significant amount of years for humans? What is a common human lifespan?

[For someone who lives for hundreds of years eighteen seems like. So few.]

for the birthday boy

[ It occurs to him that it's the first birthday he's celebrated in... some time, actually. But, hell, it's more than a good time. By now, Shiro's almost gotten used to things being almost normal here, or at least consistent. It's a nice change of pace, in any case. Either way, he's on the lookout for Lance, and when he sees him, he waves him over. ]

Hey, happy birthday. Here.

[ Of course he has a gift! He holds it out. Inside is a new jacket, deep blue and made specially to accommodate Lance's merrow characteristics. Maybe he can't use it just yet, but it'll provide warmth when it starts cooling down. There's also a set of wood-carved lions! ]

mingling

[ It's almost tempting to take a dip in the pool, but... Shiro isn't about to bare that much skin in front of so many people. Instead, he's mostly wandering around, and if he doesn't recognize you, maybe he'll come over! If he knows you, he definitely will. Regardless, he has a drink in each hand, and he'll offer one if he sees you don't have one. ]

Hey. Thanks for coming over--pretty great party, right?

[ he isn't buying this. ]

Uh-huh, suuuure. Since when did vampires care about looking pretty?

[ since when did keith care, really -- ]

Hey, Momo!

[ he's eager to go and see his friend. it's a miracle that they still get along, considering all the shenanigans they've been through; but lance likes the guy, and he's glad to see momo here. especially since there's a present involved. lance takes the gift with a grin and a little laugh. ]

Nah, you're just old! [ lance. please. ] Thanks for this, though. Eager to see me open it? Or should I hold off until later?

[ when he sees yuma in the outfit lance bought for him, lance gives him an award-winning smile. first, yuma does look pretty great in that outfit, and second of all, he's glad that he likes it. it was also really thoughtful of him to wear it to lance's party, too. nice.

he's also curious about the guitar, and he'll point that out when he's approached: ]

There you are! I was wondering if you showed up -- and look at that, you even brought your guitar with you.

[ he gives yuma a little smirk. ]

You should've told me you were gonna give us live entertainment tonight, I would've squeezed you into the agenda! [ he's joking, he swears ]

Working -- oh, right! You teach music lessons, yeah?

[ not only has he seen elliot advertise it on the network, buuuut... ]

My friend Yuma says he's taking classes from you. Kinda made me start thinking that I should try some, too!

[ the tips of his shark tail peek on the surface, too, and he's got his fins out. such are the effects of being in water! he swims up to her so he's across from her. ]

Sure am! 'Specially since we were able to get this done during the heatwave.
