[pre-ceremony]

[the day's finally come, bright and auspicious according to the fortune-teller. betrothal gifts have been exchanged earlier in the month, and now the back yard attached to the wangxian cottage has been transformed from a place of peaceful seclusion to one meant for celebration and receiving guests.

but there is still plenty to do for anyone who volunteered to show up early and help: tables that need to be moved into place, chairs that need to be set up. the couple's winged bunnies will be there to assist, nibbling on red and gold cards or flying through the air with streaming pale blue and bright red ribbons to be attached to things.

there's also boxes of noisemakers to be placed on the table - small drums and flutes and party poppers, all for chasing away bad luck. there's even a few small fireworks, just in case any lingering summer pixies are looking for something to set on fire.]

[ceremony]

[the reason for the day. it's rare to see wei wuxian and lan wangji out of their usual colors, but no one can deny that they look good in red. lan wanji in red robes and a red forehead ribbon, wei wuxian in red robes and a red veil, long black ears poking through. the ceremony itself consists of various little rituals. they make their bows - to heaven and to earth, to their parents, and to each other. finally, each cuts a lock of his own hair and knots them together, sealing them up in a little pouch. the two of them have been one for awhile now, but now it's official. now no one can say otherwise.

all of this is done in front of hiccup - chief hiccup, overseeing all of the rituals that wei wuxian explained to him and adding even more legitimacy to the union.

it ends on a less solemn note, with the two exchanging smiles and laughter, and wei wuxian predictively jumping into his new husband's arms.]

[games]

[considering whose wedding it is...a puca's wedding, naturally games should be expected. guests are invited to initiate and share their own favorites, so let aefenglom's limbo champion be decided here and now.

there are drinking games and dice games, and one somewhat dangerous game that involves a blindfolded wei wuxian receiving kisses on the cheek from various guests, and "attempting" to guess which kiss came from his husband.

music and dancing are equally welcome, so pull your date close or get to know someone new.]

[banquet]

[the feast begins, and if both grooms seem to be missing by this point, well, that just leaves more food for the guests! red remains a common theme in dishes, along with roast pork and fish. there are soups, with the pork rib and lotus root having its own place of honor. it goes without saying that jiang yanli's cooking is the best, and therefore the first to disappear from the tables.

there's also plenty of vegetarian dishes and desserts, tea and alcohol in equal measure. eat, drink and be merry well into the night. the noise just might cover up a pair of very happy newlyweds.]

[Riku catches Lan Wangji standing next to the banquet table and sidles up next to him with a plate in hand that he begins to refill with food. He eyes the man out of the corner of his eye for a moment. It's strange to realize that for the several months that he's known Wei Wuxian, and the things he's shared about his partner - now husband - in passing, this is his first time meeting Lan Wangji in person.

Though, he supposes that this is a pretty good event for them to finally be drawn together in the same place.]

Um, congratulations. It was a really nice ceremony. I'm Riku, by the way. A friend of Wei Wuxian. It's nice to finally meet you.

[taciturnly]

( just. how many people have suffered wei wuxian’s infatuated monologues. it’s almost embarrassing, the amount of people who know of him, but his bonded’s friends are definitely his friends. or. well. they’re good people, if nothing else, owed respect and trust, and lan wangji bows for the hundredth’s time, greeting him with a polite twist of his mouth. )

Riku. ( another strange name, though he’s slowly getting used to the way of others here, bending some of his own traditions, adapting. he rises, and even though he doesn’t smile, there’s clear warmth in his gaze, subdued elation. ) Thank you. You may call me Wangji.

[Riku, startled a bit by the gesture despite having seen Wei Wuxian perform it before, dips his head in an abrupt bow-like manner. It's a gesture that seems to carry meaning with people from Wuxian and Wangji's world and he doesn't want to be rude.]

Alright. [He pauses, not quite sure how to proceed.] I guess it would be dumb to ask you how your time here as been so far? [He offers a small smile.]

[taciturnly]

( you’d think, but the road lan wangji chose to walk wasn’t always smooth or straight-lined. it still isn’t, and he calmly shakes his head, because the question is nowhere near dumb. )

The winds were not always favorable. ( it’s been half a year, and he doesn’t know whether they’ll ever subside, but. wei wuxian is alive. happy. safe, and whole, and his. and very little else matters, in the grand scheme of things. ) But enduring deepening pain is how one ascends. ( before, a path to immortality. now, a path to happiness. and lan wangji is happy. )

I'm not sure I've ever heard it put that way before.

[But Riku thinks he can understand that. After all, he's been through many adverse times himself, and he finds that he's only become stronger as a person due to those experiences.]
