here's a hymn to welcome in the day
Who: Wolf (
divineconfetti) & you!
When: Throughout Iuneril.
Where: Various locations.
What: June quests and additional catch-all!
Warnings: Currently: none.
I— leeches and lycanths.
( the small apothecary is a quiet and slightly dusty sort of place, tucked in-between two much taller buildings like a diminutive middle child standing dejected between its two larger siblings. though wolf originally looked to the turnskin owners with some wariness, he found that they were for the most part very pleasant, if not a little energetic and a lot eccentric. they seemed very happy that one of the new monsters had taken up the offer (or taken up the bait?) to help them test out their new concoctions, and they end up shepherding him to a small table towards the back of the cramped, crowded store.
as the two that had shepherded him there move back towards the counter and begin discussing something with yet another turnskin working in a back room, wolf quitely takes notice of motes of dust and shed fur forming bunnies under shelves and in the corners of the room. he sighs, scratching at his jaw. )
a | ( for any other monsters come to leeches & lycanths to act as guinea pigs, they are sat at the same table as wolf after arrival and explanation of their being there. soon they are brought some very... interesting-looking vials of liquid, and asked to drink and then sit for observation for an hour or two. the turnskins leave them to their devices, though wolf notices them looking over towards them with bright, excited eyes from time to time. they gleam in the lower light, and he thinks it might seem predatory if they didn't seem so interested in the effects of the potions rather than the subjects themselves. he returns his attention back to the potion sitting in front of him. the color seems to shift between purple and green as one looks at it, with the odd sheen of an oil slick.
certainly not appetizing, but that is not what wolf being paid to do here. so, without a word to his companion, he takes up the glass vial in his right hand and drinks down the whole thing in one gulp, setting the empty glass back down on the table with a thud. the taste is, in a word, terrible, but he's accustomed to such things, thanks to the bitterness of the healing gourd's medicine.
he immediately feels a little queasy, though he's wondering if it's a side-effect or just unease at the taste and the viscosity of the potion. he looks up to his companion, quirking one scarred eyebrow. ) What do you think? ( if they have already drank it, what they think of whatever they just consumed. if they have not, well... maybe whatever their life choices were, leading them to this situation. )
b | ( and for anyone else around town, you might come across wolf just as the sun is beginning to set. it bathes the city in oranges and crimsons, with the far horizon fading into pinks and purples. it's beautiful, and one might think that perhaps it is a little too stunning, because wolf, looking up towards the sky as he is walking down a cobbled street, begins to... list to one side. and then further, and then all the way to the point where he is collapsing sideways into a sizable stack of bags of potting soil outside a flower shop.
it's quite odd for a shinobi to be losing his balance like that, but it wasn't something he was able to overcome — on the way home from the testing at leeches and lycanths, he had suddenly been overwhelmed by a wave of vertigo. now, rubbing his head with his right hand, he blinks up into what passers-by might be gathering around to see what is wrong or lend a helping hand, finding his vision blurring in a way that makes it hard to distinguish who or what is there.
oh, and there's a sizable greenish mark blooming under his left eye, matched by another that seems to have started to spread across his throat. )
II— fetch!
( wolf had taken it upon himself to try to locate some of the more dangerous objects, and those had to be the ones located in the wilde. should any of those wraith-like creatures appear, he is ready with a variety of weapons — but what he had not been very well-prepared for was the bees.
it had rained in the morning, and now that humidity is rising up into his face as the noon-time sun beams down from above. muggy and increasingly warm, it draws the insects from their homes, which seem to be interlaced all around this particular meadow on the outskirts of the wilde. wolf had listened to the instructions carefully on how to find the objects required, so he is certain that the flowers are nearby. but with the flowers came the risk of the insects, which were lazily droning about and doing their business pollinating not only the tiger lilies in question but also many other types of flowers and plants in the area.
there are a lot of them, and that seems to concern wolf. his brow his creased and his mouth settles into a frown.
he is not alone in this endeavor, however, so he glances to his companion. ) I am not concerned with being stung. However... ( he glances back over the meadow that stretches to the edge of the wilderness, hearing the humming undercurrent of the droning of the bees as he does so. ) They could cause problems. And it was requested that the bees not be accidentally brought back.
( his shinobi training did not prepare him for this. )
III— wildcard.
( for anything else that does not fit in here! maybe looking into obtaining the other items mentioned in the fetch quest! also, in addition to these quests, wolf is also going to be helping out with festival preparations; he will mostly be doing manual labor down in the harbor district, but you can always drag him into making flower arrangements or attempting to bake cookies or something! I am down for whatever, but feel free to contact me at
lycanthropic if you wanna figure something out! c: )

Looking to her left, she turns them and heads down the road until she finds the path. ]
Watch your step.
[ She walks more carefully this time, checking the ground for anything he might trip on and kicking it away. She looks up, surprised by the sight before her.
The sun tinted the flowers a different hue, but they were nonetheless beautiful blanketing the cabin the way they did. It was an unexpectedly cute home for an otherwise rugged man. ]
You..have a really nice home.
[ One she needed to stop admiring at the moment to get the poor sick man indoors. Which she does when he points out the door is open. She scans the place for the bed and leads him to it. ]
Alright, here we go...
[ Carefully, she helps him to lay onto it. ]
How are you feeling? Do you have any medicine here you can take?

how does he accept a compliment on a place he had largely found and not done too much to? certainly, he had cleared away the worst of the overgrowth and fixed up a few of the more glaring issues with maintenance... so he will at the very least accept her compliment in that regard. )
Thank you. Though I have done little to it, myself.
( the door is open, and she helps him inside, then to the bed in one of the small rooms built off to the main part of the house where the kitchen, dining, and living areas were located. wolf had only really intended to sit, but as soon as he is doing so, he begins to slowly list to one side again... to where he then collapses over to one side yet again. at least this time it's on his bed, with his head in the rough vicinity of the pillow.
his expression is a grave and stony mask. he feels rather foolish, being in this state, but... certainly it would have been no different if he had been ill in such a way and emma had been tending to him. )
No better, but no worse. ( he carefully readjusts his position so he's lying on his back, propped at least partially up against the wall. just so that he has a slight amount of dignity as he squints into the lower light of the cottage.
medicine... well, he supposes there are a few things, but he isn't convinced they will work. )
Yes. In the kitchen, you will find several gourds. If you would bring me the green one. Also, in one of the smaller drawers, near the top. You will find several paper parcels filled with powder. There are those that are green in color... if you would bring me one of those as well.

She spots him weakly leaning against the back of the wall, letting out a soft exhale through her nose before she places the stuff down on whatever flat surface she could find. ]
Here...
[ She takes the pillow by the head of his bed and carefully slips her hand behind his back to pull him towards her slightly, squeeizng the pillow behind him to make him a bit more comfortable. ]
How's that?
[ Getting a better look at him now, the coloration of his skin really didn't look so good. She should probably get him a towel as well. ]

he — honestly isn't sure what to do, what to say. he's not at all used to such gentle treatment. he merely grumbles a quiet, ) better, thank you, ( grateful that the lower lighting in the cottage and the already-marred coloration of his complexion would distract from whatever flush of embarrassment arose.
he reaches out to take the gourd first. he uncorks it and takes a drink, and waits... but, disappointingly, the bitter water doesn't seem to have any effect. he's not surprised. none of his gourds seem to work anymore. he carefully sets the gourd back down on the table (nearly spilling it over, though it wouldn't be much of a loss), and he finds the packet of medicine. he scowls (as the antidote is even more bitter than the medicinal waters), tearing a corner of the packet and tipping the powdery contents into his mouth.
and, miraculously, this seems to have an effect. perhaps because the essence of the gourd was magical and the antidote medicine wasn't, but the odd coloring mottling his skin begins to fade, and his eyes gradually begin to uncloud as things slowly come into focus.
a moment more passes, and wolf emits a grunt, though — no, perhaps it's a laugh? )
Poison, then.
( no, he doesn't really think he was poisoned (at least, not purposefully), but it certainly was cleared up the same way.
he looks to alex again, seeing her more clearly for the first time. he is the type of man to be naturally guarded, but there is something a bit gentler in his gaze now; perhaps some lingering after-effect of the novelty of being cared for in such a manner. ) I should recover. ( a brief pause, where he seems perched on the edge of continuing, but he isn't sure how... ) I... would have been in a difficult position, should you not have decided to help. I would appreciate an opportunity to return the favor.

Poison? Did he mean what was given to him or what he just used..? The change in his complexion was a welcome relief though. His eyes seem more focused now too. ]
That's really not necessary--
[ Is her immediate response, but Alex understands wanting to repay others. She's guilty of that herself, so who was she to talk? She relaxes into the mattress, her fingers playing with the fabric as she thinks about it. ]
Well...if I something comes up, I'll keep you in mind.
[ Maybe she's partly saying it just to appease him, but part of her really is considering it. ]
But don't worry about that now. You should lie down and rest. [ She's already taking the paper from his hand now that he didn't need it. After putting it aside, she leans forward to reach over for the pillow behind him so she can return it towards the head of the bed. ]
