[Open!] Kickback at the Fratsion
Who: Soren and anybody stopping by!
When: Early Aereuer
Where: Soren's Mansion House in the aristocratic district.
What: Bonfire and kickback!
Warnings: Excessively wholesome bro-ness.
[Don't overthink how you were invited.
Soren might have mentioned it in person, inviting his new Wilder friends back with him after the days mission to hang out. You might have just noticed the open gate and thought "why not?" Everybody sure cheered like they were expecting all the new arrivals, even if they weren't. It's not important how or why you got here, it's a party! Everybody likes a party!
The atmosphere is actually very relaxed. The night is a gloomy one, with dark clouds and thunder crackling over head, but only an occasional sprinkle of rain. Mostly, people are gathered in the yard space and on the porches lining the massive house. There's not a ton of furniture, most of the chairs set out are mismatched. The whole scene resembles just about every sparse college affair where what is around is made to work.
Nothing all that wild is going on, people seem contented to sit and chatter between themselves contentedly. Alcohol is reserved to those who brought their own mead. Many are drinking tea or hot cocoa, instead. There are some long logs with heavy blankets tossed onto them for comfort, surrounding a massive firepit.
It's a cozy affair.]
I. S'more than a good time.
[Thanks to Emil, there's a huge bonfire! Thanks to Juza, there is a huge pile of chocolate and graham crackers for s'mores set out.
Thanks to Soren, nobody can find the marshmallows because he's carrying around the entire bag worth. Seems if that particular part of the treat is desired, he'll need to be asked directly.
Or, he'll need be a half decent host and notice someone looking in need and share. He's shoving one in his mouth about the time someone catches his eye.]
Mmmm, you want one of these?
II. King of the Castle.
Marvel at my domain! The Bastion Keep! [Soren calls out from his second story porch. There's a single, tepid "woo!" from down in the yard, which gets a "yeah, this guy!!" from Soren.
He seems mighty proud of himself. Hands on his hips, he stretches back to lean on heels and sucks in the brisk night air. It's pleasant out, the chilly storm weather was perfect to have a fire burning during]
Not exactly a rager, but this is nice, right? You having a good time?

Not exactly a rager, but this is nice, right? You having a good time?

I
They're better when you hold 'em over the fire.
no subject
He does stop at the mention of putting them on the fire. Concern.]
....... are these raw? [he's already had quite a few, you need to cook them!?]
no subject
You can eat 'em that way too, they're just better when you toast 'em.
[He makes a gesture like "give me one."]
no subject
[he'll hand off a couple to Juza, having been curious what the thin metal sticks were for exactly. Seemed a bit weak to be fire pokers. Meanwhile, he muses]
Man... who cooked bread once and thought, like, eh, let's cook it again! Right?
no subject
[This is the first and only time he's ever heard toast-toast. With a few marshmallows, he skewers them and holds them over the fire.]
... I dunno? Somebody who wanted somethin' warm? Or maybe it was old bread.
no subject
[not bread toast, but... sugar toast?
Oh, that does sound good. Show him how, friend, he wants this delicious sugar toast.]
no subject
[Which is a completely separate thing from toasted bread. Also he's pretty sure you can't put these in a toaster and get them successfully gooey. That might just destroy the toaster.
He rotates them around until they're golden brown then pulls one off to put on a s'more, handing it over to Soren.]
Try it.
no subject
It's like a sweet sandwich! That's a good idea, you think of this? [yes, Juza, you could just take all the credit for s'mores if you wanted, Soren would believe]
no subject
Nah, it's a pretty normal camping treat back home. [Juza's too lawful to lie about anything related to dessert.] Like it?
[He asks, as he chomps down on his own.]
no subject
This face and a nod yes, yes, yes, hell yes, that's good! It's going to take him forever to chew through it and swallow though. Maybe advise he take a bite instead of voring the whole damn thing at once. Good thing Juza's not the one who would make fun of him for that]
no subject
Juza looks amused as Soren chews his way through the s'more. There's a reason this is one of the few sweets he eats in smaller bites instead of all at once. Still, he can't blame him for his excitement- desserts are all delicious.]
Try biting into your next one. There's a lot less to deal with at a time.
ii.
Heh. Seems like you are. You and your dad aren't anything alike at all, huh.
no subject
Riiight, you and Lance immediately got on his bad side, right? Not that he... has much of a good side. [Anyways-] He figure out lied about your names, yet? Warned Lance he'd be in for it.
ii
I'm having a great time. Honestly, I'm not really a party guy, (despite the canteen of liquor he brought with him for the occasion,) so the chill atmosphere's perfect for me... so thanks for the invite. How about you, man? Get enough to snack on and drink and everything?
no subject
Juza and his pal from home, uh... Omi! Yeah, yeah, Omi. They got the food handled. Those guys got pretty good taste. [as for drink, Soren unabashedly has a warm, cozy mug of cocoa nearby, marshmallows melting into it (at Juza's advice)]
no subject
(there's nothing like a good mug of hot chocolate, soren. marshmallows are just the cherry on top.
a boisterous party would've been fun, too, jonas is convinced. at least with this guy heading it, as he wouldn't readily trust anyone else to throw something inclusive. that'd have been a bit too much like the ones he'd attended in his early high school years, though, and earlier than that.)
I know Juza. Wound up on a speed date with him, way back in February. Er, or whatever they call it here. (god, he's so bad at the month names.) I've never met his buddy Omi, though. Have you known them long?
no subject
Juza's my bonded! Isn't he cool? [he says just, so pleased about that, and likewise proud]
We met in the first dream we both fell into, before landing here. Been close as brothers ever since! Only just met Omi, but he's going to be staying here with us. He cooks! [which is very, very important]
no subject
You seem pretty set for life, now with your very own chef. I should just ditch Stiles and come mooch off you guys. (hesitates before asking his next question, always a doozy, but jonas figures it's a relaxed enough atmosphere for it.) Are you... planning on staying a while? Like, here in this world? I know people have no say in that kinda' thing, but it's something to think about.
no subject
What about you? And... you and Stiles could both come live here if you ever wanted! Always welcome, promise.
no subject
still, it's a difficult dynamic. jonas' eyes crease as he watches soren's mood shift.)
That is such a generous offer, but we've got a pretty great setup. You should come check it out sometime. (takes a swig of his drink, raising it in a happier "cheers.") If we ever get into a weird marital spat, then you'll be the first guy I call. How's that? I'm adept at passing out on couches.
no subject
Where did you guys set up, anyways? I stayed in the barracks for a couple nights and it suuuucked. Went to the mirrorhouse to ask for somewhere better and they gave me the keys to this place! Some old, rich dudes were getting their heads chopped off, so it was free! [this is just a normal thing that happened to benefit him and he breezes right on past it]
no subject
(speaking of rich people getting their heads chopped off, though, jonas is less inclined to let that one go. because soren, please.)
... do they... was that the, uh, Rathmores?
no subject
Mine now! [he's not thinking... much deeper on that. Executions aren't out of the realm of possibility in Katolis, as a Knight, Soren might even be expected to carry one out. He'd... gotten close, with the last assassin to the King, but they kept him as a prisoner.
Wonder what even happened to that guy-? Wait, you know what... don't wanna know.......]
no subject
Anyway, she got, like, hurt by them. Bad. So the fact that you took their mansion from them is some karmic retribution. (those terrible fucking people are dead. suddenly far happier to be here, even if it gives him a strange feeling.) Doesn't bother me none.
no subject
Yeah, for real, even better! People like that ought to pay. [... he shouldn't think on that any deeper, or he might get to feeling guilty about how his father's acted. And ordered him to act, in turn.]
no subject
(like jail time. a lot of jail time. a lifetime's worth.
and woah, his chance to wingman has come (even if fang's like, ten thousand times gayer and more mature than they are).) Sure, I mean... she seems really chill, she'd probably be down with it? I met her on the Outpost trip, so I didn't get to know her very well, but. I was temp-bonded to her.
Which was pretty neat, all things considered. You ever done that?
no subject
Temp-bonded? Not even heard of it. I bonded with Juza right away and that's been suuuper chill. There's another kind? [never underestimate Soren's ability to straight up not pay attention to what he's told]
ii.
He pops his head out when there's a little ruckus, just as his last round of quiche is cooling.]
There's mini quiche in your dominion now. Do you want me to bring some up?
no subject
Thanks for doing the cooking, man. Don't know a thing about that. You're like a wizard with it, though! [his sister learned, but she liked to use dark magic with her cooking. Which was delicious. No doubting that.]
You know. Not literally.
no subject
[He means it humbly, though. He's just... really experienced with quiche, okay? It's his favorite food to make, really, since it's so universally loved and versatile. Watch him.
The shoulder pat is unexpected, but Omi's glad for it. He's used to being in a relatively tight-knit group, or at least a group that tries to be in step with each other, and coming here has been a bit of an adjustment. Friendliness is welcome. And because Omi is the friendly sort, he pats him on the back right back, a smooth transition.]
I guess I'm a cooking monster, instead? Anyway, there's nothing magical about it. I've just been cooking for most of my life, so I like to have fun with it every once in a while. Turns out mini muffin tins exist here, and I intend to use them. Now, come on and try one of these.
[Ushering him to the table where all the tiny quiche are neatly arranged!]
The ones here are savory, like a meat and cheese with something like scallions, and a hint of heat. The other ones are sweet, so it's fruit and custard.
no subject
Oh man, they're like meat muffins? Who thoughta that!? [and, also, NOM, he throws a whole one into his mouth. Oh, man, it's so good tho!!]
no subject
Ah, I'm glad you like it... [Honestly... this is making him feel at home.] I can make the same thing, but bigger. It's kind of like a pie, instead?
ii
Of course. Sometimes this kind of thing is nice to just get to know people. [That said, he winks and makes a cutesy little pointing motion next to his eye.] I'll get on doing a proper rager one of these days, I just need to find a good place to hold one.
[Cottages do not good rager locations make, and he's not putting that kind of cleanup job on someone else's house.]
no subject
He won't appreciate the mess, after.... but he'll also probably enjoy the party enough to not regret it.]
no subject
I'll keep it in mind, though, I wanna look at my options a bit, see if they have any cool venues I can uncover for everyone.
[Or, alternately, throw the equivalent of a warehouse party in one of the old abandoned theaters for that vague haunted old building aesthetic.]
no subject
If you throw it somewhere else, though, still count me in. Love a good party. Unless it's like, stuffy. You don't seem stuffy. [that's a compliment]
no subject
Momo has to stick his tongue out between his sharp canines at even the implication a party he throws would be stuffy, though.] Hey, if I say I'm throwing a rager, it'll be a rager. I'm not a grandpa just yet.
i.
When Soren happens to wander by carrying a bag of marshmallows, Emil lights up and waves at him.]
Hey, mind if I grab one of those? I wouldn't mind roasting one, it's been ages since I had a proper toasted marshmallow.
no subject
Yeah, yeah- hold on! Lemme get thoooose... pokey stick deals! I want to roast some, too.
[he's given out enough of them at this point to see how other people put them over the fire. Sometimes two or three at a time?? What madness is this?
Retrieving the marshmallow pokers, Soren shuffles over to Emil's side and offers one, then the bag.]
no subject
Once Soren is back with the sticks, Emil grins and nudges their shoulders together, taking one and piercing two marshmallows on it.]
I take it you've not done this very often? I can show you a cool trick to get way more crispy marshmallow crusts out of this whole thing.
I
[ Saber has been hunting for them for some time after someone introduced her to the concept of the "s'more". She has to try making one for herself. ]
It's difficult to make these strange sweet sandwiches without them...
[ Hey, Saber is out of her room! ]
no subject
Taking a few from the bag, he'll poke them down onto a stick to go in the fire, handing it to her]
They're sooo good! I trust Juza to know a good sweet, he really likes that sorta stuff.
[Wow, Soren, way to call out your bonded for his very obvious behavior he futility attempts to hide....]
no subject
[ She also has a bit of a sweet-tooth. It's a guilty pleasure, but one she's indulging in a bit more often these days. She takes the stick with a nod. ]
Would you like to accompany me? I admit, I thought your parties would be louder.
I
Just walking in? Not that anyone stopped her. She grabs a hot chocolate, checks it's hot chocolate, no enchantments or anything. After getting drunk on it before and Maria's warning she wasn't taking that slightly. And she settles on a log, a familiar stomach grumble starting up.
She just starts eating crackers and chocolate on they're own. Blinking at the white puff Soren was eating.]
...What is it?
