The recent showers brought a new arrey of pleasant greens into the scenery and left the air clean and fresh with the temperature just right. Though a bit on the wetter side of things, it still promised a nice stroll around the neighborhood, the kind that would go well with a nice hot drink and a pastry. It sounded perfect and he could see it so clearly that he could almost taste it.
He's keen on doing just that but first he needed to get his chores out of the way, the last one being the repair of the tears on his coat. Folded neatly and tucked lovingly into his arms Bishop headed out, bright and early, making a beeline to the tailors.
"Excuse me, hello?" He called out amidst the jingle jangle of the doorbell, sheepishly poking his head out from behind the door. "Are you open yet?"
Saber has been working in the tailor's shop part-time for a little while now, mostly lending her hand to making minor repairs and helping around the shop with restocking and moving things around. Occasionally she has to mind the shop while everyone is out. This is one of those times. She looks up as the bell rings and she comes out from behind the counter, setting down the pair of trousers she's working on patching.
"We're open, but I'm afraid that the best I can do is show you around. What can I help you with it?"
He smiles with relief as he enters, gently closing the door behind him before laying the black long coat on the counter.
"I have a longcoat here. It's kinda worn but sturdy, although the other day it got a little roughed up." He unfolds it showing how it's torn in a few places, nothing too major but there's quite a few. "I was out on a quest and ran into some nasty beasts out there." He chuckles. "A couple of ancient heroes helped me get out of that bind so here I am. Is it salvageable?"
He smiles, a bit pleading in appearance. "I'm hoping so, it has a bit of sentimental value to it."
"Ah, I understand. It's quite dangerous out there, isn't it?" She examines the coat, turning it one way and then another, trying to see if it can be effectively repaired. She imagines it can be, it will just take some time. Her gaze rises with a faint expression of surprise.
He's pleased by what he sees so far. It seems like his old coat will live to see another battle. Thank goodness.
"Their names are Gilgamesh and Enkidu, if that means anything." A beat. "Oh wait, no. It's King Gilgamesh." He chuckles as he affectionately rolls his eyes.
"In my world, their names were just part of an old story, a myth, so imagine my surprise when I met them. The King is quite a character." He chuckles as recalls the day he met Gilgamesh.
Oh good, she seems to know them. That saves him some trouble in explaining who they are.
"Well, I'm still here with only a few bruises and sores. I have those two to thank for me still being around." He means that. He admittedly, overestimated himself and underestimated his quarry, a fatal combination. It's hard getting used to being powerless again but he'll have to make do.
"I believe it can be," Saber muses. She isn't exactly an expert but she's done this before. She holds the coat up and examines it from a few different angles.
"It will be mostly intact, although I will likely need to patch it in a few places."
"Fantastic! Thank you!" He clasps his hands together as a big bright smile lights up his face. "I was worried for a second there. This old thing serves me well. So how long would it take? Sorry if I'm being pushy, just wanted to know."
Now onto more intriguing matters. "You said you knew Gilgamesh to be less than helpful at times. Mind if I ask what you meant by that?" He says with a smile and curious gaze in his eyes.
Someone with something to say about Gilgamesh, that's worth more than his weight in gold if he gets something substantial from it. Not that he's plotting anything against him but, life is strange and one never really knows where it's twists and turns may take it's traveller.
"That is...a very accurate summary, although the legend did mention as much about him. Not that I disagree. There have always been more than one kind of king throughout history, even the mythological ones aren't perfect or else they'd never be seen as heroes." His own honest opinion, but nothing much he can extract from that. He should ask her a bit more.
"I was just interested in hearing what others have to say. After all, not everyday one gets the chance to speak with heroes right out of legend. It's not like they're just gallivanting around! Hahaha!" There's no facade in those words, and even if Gilgamesh is a bit difficult to talk to he can say that he is interesting.
"I figure it'd be a good learning experience for me to try and understand them. How certain behaviors affect people, draw them in, or repel them." A beat. "Oh my goodness, I just realized I haven't introduced myself! Sorry about that. I'm called Bishop."
Saber opts not to delve too deeply into her own opinion of Gilgamesh - partly because it's complicated for her at this point and she isn't sure she really wants to get too deeply into that with a stranger. Of course, he's introducing himself. She bows her head slightly.
"You may call me Saber. I hope that your experience with a hero of legend continues to be... positive and does not cause you grief."
Saber. Strange name but this is coming from the guy named after a chess piece.
"I certainly hope so too. I kinda wonder if there's anymore, actually. I'd love to test my swordsmanship against one. Gilgamesh didn't really strike me as the type to use a sword."
"Oh same boat." He smiles, looking a bit more relieved in his stance. He doesn't know why, but he feels relief every time he encounters someone who arrived ended up here about the same time as him. It's strange.
"I'm still getting used to being in one place for this long. I move around a lot back in my world. But yeah, I'd like to test my skills against one now that I know they actually do end up here or rather really existed. Or exist." Still weird though. "My world is....in conflict, and I'm a former soldier turned soldier of fortune. So I thought, while I'm here, keep my skills up if not improve them and what better way to do that than spar against some heroes, right?"
"Sparring is certainly worthwhile," Saber replies, "It helps to keep one's skills sharp and to provide a challenge that isn't immediately lethal. What wars did you fight in? And for who?"
Call her curious. She's also not revealing much about herself - she prefers to ask questions. At least for now.
"Still fighting, technically. It's a...hmmmm." He rubs his cheek wondering how much he should reveal and after a moment of consideration, details about his world are of little consequence to him.
"Well, my world, Earth, is....ending. The book of Revalations, like the Bible, turns out it wasn't all nonsense. Hell invaded and we fight against demons." He shrugs, as if to say 'go figure'.
"Demons?" She doesn't sound doubtful, just a little surprised, "I have fought one such creature and it was powerful beyond belief... I cannot imagine having to fight an army of them."
Although she would if she had to.
"Are you not worried for your home, being taken from it as you are now?"
Color him surprised, he was expecting her to call him crazy or at least give him a look. Even more surprising is how she mentioned she fought something similar. Interesting.
"Well, it's all of humanity against all of hell and other iterations of it. The Underworld, Hades, Hel - the Norse one, Yomi, you name it we're fighting it."
And he's killed more than his fair share of monsters from each one and more.
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried but..." He shrugs. "If I let the worry get to me I'd just tire myself out. Not to mention maybe lose my mind from stress, and that just won't do."
"I suppose that's reasonable. Worrying about what one cannot currently change is not all that productive..." Saber shakes her head and settles down, sorting through some different threads. She mostly wants to find one that will match the coat. She's not going to start on it just yet, but she likes sorting this out ahead of time.
"That being said, it is still quite a bit to take in. Being here I mean." A quiet huff escapes him. "Particularly the losing my powers and this 'bond' stuff." There's an emphasis on the word 'bond', the nature of which troubles him greatly. He understands the benefits of having one however it's later aspects, sharing feelings and perhaps even memories, is troubling.
"It's been a challenge feeling so....normal again. Did you experience something similar?"
"To a certain degree, yes," Saber replies slowly. She's considering how best to put this.
"Although I am also a... monster... so there is something else to get used to. I don't know how I would feel had I become a witch. But I do feel slower and more prone to being hurt than I did previously."
He cringes a bit as she describes her side. "I can't imagine being a monster." He shakes his head. "I've spent my entire life fighting monsters, and now I'm here surrounded by them. God, I nearly jumped out of my skin and atacked every time I saw a harpy or a turnskin when I first arrived. Thankfully I have it mostly under control now but, it still feels a little weird. You know?"
He rubs his face, the worry he feels now quickly showing on his face.
"Say do you mind me asking, I heard that when the full moon is up unbonded monsters go....wild? Feral? Is that true?"

She's mentally going through the list of repairs and adjustments they still have to do. Hmm.
"It shouldn't be any trouble, though."

"He is... arrogant and vain and grasping, at the worst of times. He views the world through the eyes of a tyrant."
Although she's caught glimpses of something more beyond all of that, she hasn't yet seen enough to really feel comfortable with Gilgamesh. Not yet.
"Why?"

"How long have you been here, Miss Saber."

She thinks she understands. The idea of a challenge has appeal, even to her, and she can have a very strong competitive streak if she's not careful.
"Two or three months now," She replies a moment later, "I am still adjusting..."
