It wasn't quite visible but he does sigh in relief. "That's good then." Empathy is strangely easy here, much to his surprise. A world full of strangers who know nothing of his pain or sorrow, emotions which were prevalent in his world and present among all who live in it, he thought he'd be apathetic to them however that clearly isn't the case in this conversation.
"Oh, you're unbonded too?" He assumed that after her first feral moon she would have already gotten one, which actually worries him just a tad. "Well, from what I was told and read. Witches don't go mad but, it's arguably worse." He crosses his arms and rubs his cheek.
"The magic builds up and becomes stronger the longer we remain unbonded and eventually it just becomes unwieldy....then we explode." He tilts his head as if to say 'oh well, that's that', likely in an effort to distance himself from the fact he's a human bomb.
"Well... not entirely. I have found someone who is will to temporarily bond with me to assist me with such troubles," Saber shakes her head, "It is something of a relief, honestly. It means that I can feel a little more at ease."
She pauses to listen to him and her expression flattens out a little, "That... is also what I have heard. Have you considered bonding with anyone yet? To avoid such a fate?"
The sigh he let out couldn't be heavier. "I certainly have but...well, let's just say I have yet to find someone who...fits the bill, so to speak."
A beat.
"Also it just doesn't sit right with me. I know I shouldn't be so hung up, but the whole thing is so invasive." And Bishop is a man who enjoys his privacy. "Particularly the latter effect I read up on. Potential memory sharing?
Since I told you what my world is like, I'm sure you can imagine what things must be like. Last thing I'd want is for someone else to witness the things I've seen." And that's the gospel truth.
"Very invasive," she agrees, "But we may not have a choice. Often we must go with that option that we find the most unpalatable, if only so that we may survive. This is one of those moments, I believe."
She seems grimly determined. As if she is used to making hard choices and following through, no matter the personal cost to her.
"I am sure that others may not wish to see what horrors lie in your past - but that is why you must find someone willing to endure it or else you may find yourself destroyed."
"Unfortunately, I do not know if I can suggest anyone in good faith. It took me some time to find someone myself and that was through chance, almost, than by my finding someone I thought suitable. In the end, you may need to bend to the needs and whims of this world..."
Saber sighs and shakes her head.
"It is vexing, though. I wish there were other solutions."
"You have a point, but - I don't know - the thought of getting close to someone and then suddenly giving them a piece of my memories of the Calamity just....it makes me feel like I'd be a really bad friend. Hell, as a person."
The End as his version of mankind knew it is not for the faint of heart.
"But the alternative is death so, I'll have to play ball." He sighs. "...Welp. It could be worse I suppose." He could be three months in and bondless....which he is.
"The question then becomes whether you would stake your survival on such a thing; I'm sure if you felt confident to bond enough with someone and explain the situation to them and they accepted, they would understand the risk associated with such a thing, wouldn't they?"
She's trying to encourage him to find a way, if only for his own sake.
"Dying because of that seems... like it wouldn't help you or your home. Even if you kept those memories locked away, who would that serve, in the end?"
He ponders her suggestion and honestly, it's something he's thought of, but was concerned the fear of potentially experiencing one of his memories might scare them off. However thinking about it now, there might be a way through this without having to reveal too much.
"....Well, I might just have a way. I'll need a bit of extra time so, maybe I should get a familiar. I'll think about it a little more today. By the way, what's the ceremony like? to form a bond I mean.|
"A way to bond...?" Arturia seems a little confused by that statement and she asks for clarification. Her brow furrows and she considers for a moment before shaking her head and actually answering the question that's been asked of her.
"It's... not complicated. You and the bonded exchange vows and the pact is otherwise sealed. It's not painful or overly-dramatic. It's efficient, honestly, if you chose to make it so."
"No; they can be as simple and as direct as you like," Saber shakes her head, "It need not be a grand show, although it certainly can be, if you like. Does that help ease your mind?"
"Yeah, quite a bit. Thanks." He's gotten a bit of information that could help him. He is still apprehensive but her points about bonding instead of dying does reinforce his need.
He'll have to be smart about this, and fast.
"Well, I think I've taken up enough of your time. Thanks for humoring me like this! I enjoyed this little chat. I'll be back in a few days to pick up my order." He smiles and offers his hand to shake. "Hopefully next time we get the chance to speak, it'll be over coffee or tea."
"Of course. If... you still need assistance in the future, please seek me out. I would like to do my best to ensure that the inhabitants of this city are safe. And that includes Mirrorbound."

"No lasting harm was done, to myself or anyone else. It has... simply reinforced my need for a bond."
She grimaces; apparently she doesn't like the sound or thought of that.
"It seems to be necessary, even if we would rather not open ourselves to others. I'm not sure if the same quite applies to witches."

Also, the fact he doesn't want some other more unsavory memories to come out. He has an image to maintain after all.
"Unless of course, you know a person who can. I'm all ears and am getting pretty close to desperate."

She clearly approves of this.

"Thank goodness. I was afraid I may have to make some grand speech and sacrifice a goat or something."
And he's not very good at that.
"The vows don't have to be something cheesy or particularly emotional right?"
