[ Vanitas has already spent enough time watching the meteor shower. He's a little dazed and confused trying to walk back to the house and there's a reason for it, but that's neither here nor there.
He is soon distracted by all of the colorful little glowing things now fluttering around. The natives seem amused by it, but Vanitas does not. Red and yellow seem to want to linger close to him as well as blue, but he keeps batting them away before any single bug can actually hand on him. ]
Go away and bother someone else!
( Pile's Plantagorium: A )
[ Earning some funds by growing plants? Well count Vanitas in. It's not that he went out with the mindset that he is going to specialize in flora. In fact, it isn't as though Vanitas really finds any relaxation or enjoyment in this activity. However, he is good at it and he believes plants are easier to deal with than people are.
So, sure. Vanitas spends plenty of time helping out on that rooftop, tending to and growing what seedlings tare there. Vanitas can be seen putting his talent to use, standing above flower beds and soon seeds become greenery and leaves. Then they begin to bloom in an array of colors. ]
( Pile's Plantagorium: B )
[ Buuuut there's more to be had if he ventures outside, right? Vanitas is standing right at the edge of the Wall. His Keyblade, Void Gear, is strapped to his back. The problem is, Van sure doesn't know what is a deadly plant or what isn't. So maybe stop him before he goes out and offer a hand?
Or maybe Vanitas is encountered already exploring beyond the wall. He has a plant isolated, it's true. It doesn't look sick... But those are a lot of sharp looking thorns on it. That's probably not a very good thing to bring back, but it looks like Vanitas doesn't really care. Only... he's kind of circling it. Looking for how he can get a cutting of it. ]
( Out of the City )
[ Once again Vanitas takes the opportunity to not stick around the city. When the chance is offered to venture beyond the Wall to one of the settlements, Vanitas takes it. He makes sure to leave a note stating that he'll be out. Doesn't state why or for how long because who needs to know that? He played it pretty safe last month by staying within the city walls so naturally Vanitas needs to get out and actually do something.
To get rid of some of his restless, excess energy, Vanitas takes to patrolling around the settlement he is brought to. There are plenty of infected monsters in the area and the spar he had last month isn't enough. Thus he can be found engaging in battle, fierce grin on his face and laughing. It's almost like he's enjoying every single moment that he cuts down one of those monsters, hurling around Void Gear like it weighs nothing. There's no magic used, just brute strength.
And when Vanitas tires of this - not that he will ever fully tire - there is something else he can do. Don't get him wrong it's not that he cares about these people. He doesn't, at all. Vanitas isn't doing this for their sake, but for his own. He joins some of the other Witches that have set up healing stations. Vanitas, see, has been working on the healing artes for months. Now he's putting himself to the test to see just how much mastery he has over those skills. Feel free to bother him or tease. ]
( Book shopping )
[ Vanitas enjoys being self-sufficient. He doesn't like to rely on others, though there are at least a few people out there that... Well he'll let them help him out if he really needs it. Over all? Vanitas still is uneasy. Normally that would be his motivation for getting out and learning anything.
That's not the case this time, but he's going to keep that to himself. Instead he's at this bookstore, going through the shelves. However, Vanitas looks more and more irritated as he goes. ]
Augh. This one's useless too.
[ He's getting aggravated enough that he's not bothering to put all of the useless ones back. Nope. There's starting to be a book scattered here and there. ]
Why is this proving to be so difficult!?
[ All he wants is a ding dang recipe book. To meet certain Monster dietary requirements. ]

[ He gets what Sora is trying to do. Van is then the one tugging, immediately heading towards the tallest building in the city. Scaling it is easy for him, really. But that’s not what he’s going to do.
Instead he wraps an arm around Sora’s waist. ]
Hold on tight.
no subject
[Sora makes a quick noise of surprise when Vanitas suddenly tugs and wraps an arm around him. What's he up to?! He does automatically grab hold of the other boy, though!
???]
Huh?! Vanitas?
no subject
[ Oh they aren’t going to climb up. Van holds Sora tight and murmurs a spell. One moment they are on the ground. The next they are on the roof. Teleportation. ]
Didn’t feel like climbing.
no subject
Whoa-! When did you learn something like that?
[Teleportation seems like it would be a rather high level kind of magic to learn. He's kind of impressed. And full of an excited chuckle.]
no subject
[ He gives Sora an amused, curious glance. Then he carefully releases the other and puts hands on his hips. ]
It was just a matter of adapting.
no subject
I guess when you're used to moving around like that it's only the easy thing to do, huh? Lucky.
[He's always wondered what it would be like to use a corridor. Not that he ever could, though! With that, Sora looks up at the sky and then lets out an excited whoop before he moves to the ledge of the roof.]
Just look at everything from up here, though! It's awesome!
no subject
[ And while Emet-Selch doesn't really teach... He doesn't stop Vanitas from observing and he does engage in some discussion. Vanitas learns this way, of course.
Though he doesn't know what to think about Sora and Dark Corridors. They don't hurt Vanitas, of course, but they are dangerous to other people. The Darkness that lurks within is damaging to a heart. Not a heart that is comprised of Darkness, of course, but hey.
He walks behind Sora, looking up at the sky. ]
Used to come up here sometimes. Before I had a place to stay.
no subject
Really? Up here?
[Sora looks around. This high spot is such a great little vantage point. He can see all the lights in the city down below and the docks nearby. With the sky illuminated with falling stars, it makes everything look that much more majestic. Sora moves to sit down on the ledge, hanging his legs over it without batting an eyelash.]
It feels like you can see the entire city from here.
no subject
[ Because it had been the real start of Winter by then. He had done this during the Autumn nights right up until the most frigid ones started. Then Mira had given him a choice and Vanitas had taken it. Vanitas wonders if Sora realizes that he had been a homeless wanderer for months... ]
Anyway, yeah. That's why I picked it. Able to see everything and not anyone could get up here.
[ Harder to be ambushed. Harder to be attacked. Vanitas follows Sora's lead, sitting down on the ledge and allowing for his own legs to dangle in the air. All the while his eyes are fixed on the sky. ]
no subject
You mean... you stayed up here?
[He had originally thought that Vanitas meant that he just visited this place sometimes. Not that he stayed up here.]
When did you move in with Mira and the others?
no subject
[ A little defensive, maybe. Sora makes it sound like it is such a strange thing! It's not... He's never had a roof over his head before, thanks. ]
I think it was the beginning of the twelfth month that I moved in. There was a snow storm that went through and it was after she forced me to wear this ugly sweater.
no subject
[Sora says this softly. He just feels bad that Vanitas stayed out here when it was cold. If only Sora had somehow been able to arrive sooner? Would he had been able to help Vanitas?
Sora glances back up at the sky.]
But at least you had a view like this to see. Even without the falling stars, I bet the night sky was really something to see.
[The meteors in the dark night sky... It reminds him of something.]
no subject
Honestly, I never really bothered to look. Looking at the sky isn't really something I ever did or even thought about doing.
[ Because if he had been caught staring off, who knows what kind of creature would have taken advantage of that.
Right now though? Right now it's okay. It's... It's okay to take time and see if he actually enjoys these sorts of things or not. So that's what Vanitas is doing as another dim light streaks across the sky. ]
I'd say it's a first time for everything, but it literally has been a lot of first times.
no subject
Now that you the chance to try some new firsts.
[He holds up two fingers and shuts one eye as if he's trying to capture a meteor in between his fingers to squish it.]
It's almost like...
[Sora smiles. He knows what this night sky reminds him of now.]
It's almost like looking at what darkness can look like. So dark way up there and so far away but filled with sparks of magic or light. Like warm fire.
no subject
Van's gaze shifts to Sora and the brat's odd behavior. What is he doing pinching his fingers like that? Almost like what...?
Then Sora finishes his sentence and Vanitas gives him an odd look. Just what goes through Sora's head sometimes? Vanitas doesn't even know and can't even begin to figure that one out. ]
Huh?
[ Sorry if he doesn't really understand. He thought... That this is obvious? That's what the vastness of space is, Darkness. And those little points of light are sparks of magic. Places of safe harbor to chase away just a bit of the Darkness. ]
no subject
I mean... [He chuckles a little.] Something as big and vast as that darkness? All those meteors and comets shooting around in the sky, making it so much more than just darkness. It's really... beautiful.
[He glances at Vanitas a little.]
I almost wish I could reach out and touch it.
no subject
He looks at Sora for a moment, frown marring his features. Vanitas is thinking about this, what Sora is saying. ]
Light and Dark all wrapped up into one package?
[ Is that what Sora means by "more than?" Vanitas really does want to understand here. ]
no subject
More like the meteors and comets are part of the darkness. A thing that makes it all its own. Making it even better.
[He's not really sure if he's talking about the night sky or if he's talking about something else. All he knows is that this sparkling night sky reminds him of Vanitas. This beautiful sparkling darkness that can be more than just black.]
no subject
However there is one thing that he can agree with. ]
It is beautiful in its own way, I suppose.
[ At least Van can see the appeal of watching the stars fall like rain. ]
no subject
Sora looks down, his fingers scratching gently at the ledge of the roof. Then he looks up again, new golden eyes settling on his bondmate next to him. Sora watches how he looks up at the sky and agrees at least with that one thing.
So unreachable.
Before he can realize he's doing it Sora shifts closer. His fingers brush Vanitas' leg as he leans forward and gently brushes his lips against Vanitas' cheek. He lingers there for just a fraction of a second before he pulls back and looks back up at the sparkling dark sky.]
Yeah. Yeah, it is.
no subject
If he seems mysterious it is because he is a mystery even to himself. Vanitas no longer knows who he is and well. He is taking the time to maybe learn that. Perhaps that's why he goes along with Sora on these things. Why he interacts with people like Mira and Marie. Then there are people like Emet-Selch that also remind Vanitas that he doesn't have to be anything he doesn't want to be.
His eyes are fixed upon the sky. Van feels the brush of fingers against his leg but doesn't seem to care about it. Sora is affectionate and tends to like touching, even if it's the barest of touches. But then he feels the pressure on his cheek and Vanitas' mind?
Well it just shuts down. He immediately turns to look at Sora, question on the tip of his tongue and yet he can't think what the question is. ]
no subject
But eventually, he mutters quickly,] Have you ever wished on a falling star?
[Time to change the subject. YEAH.]
no subject
It is a conundrum he can't solve at the moment. Instead Sora throws him off again with another question. ]
No...?
[ What is even going on anymore? ]
no subject
He just can't stop going a mile a minute, it seems. Sora fidgets with fluttering energy.]
Wanna wish for something?
no subject
Sora -
[ He's about to address it. It's really on the tip of his tongue! Vanitas then huffs, rubbing at the back of his neck and maybe just. Snatching up Sora's hand instead. ]
What would I want to wish for?
[ Van doesn't know how to ask. ]
