I as well.
[ He seems more purposeful if only from years of staking out new places. ]
Now is a good time to learn about the locals. Have confidence in yourself.
no subject
True enough, the atmosphere is certainly amiable...
[ He looks at his impromptu company for a moment, appearing thoughtful. ]
Are you curious too? About the festivities.
no subject
[ It's kind of a 'yes'. Ienzo will have to get used to Raemiel's at-times roundabout way of speaking. ]
Come then.
[ He starts walking towards the bonfire. Good thing he has his cloak on, the heat wouldn't hit him directly. Seems like he expects Ienzo to follow him. ]
no subject
[ The more understanding the better, in Ienzo opinion. At the invitation-or, command? Ienzo hesitates briefly. Though he decides quickly there's no harm in accompanying him into the crowd.]
Oh. I'm Ienzo, by the way- what was your name?
no subject
[ A simple one-word name, bereft of title or bloodline. That's how he presents himself here, someone with little attachment. His words may seem rude, without even as much as a 'nice to meet you', but the absence of superiority or any significant tone has an opposite effect. ]
Flames were believed to have cleansing properties. You know of what transpired days before? Then this festival could draw the people's minds away from such dark things.
no subject
Are you referring to the trials?
[ Ienzo had caught the literal tail end of all that. He only knew what had been broadcasted through the watches. ]
no subject
[ He looks around at the bonfires, heading towards one with more children. ]
The trial has ruled in our favour, proving the population is capable of honourable decisions.
no subject
Right...the details have certainly been gruesome.
[ And terrifying. The sentence of execution was not one to be handed down lightly after all. ]
no subject
A pause before he speaks again, to change the subject. ]
Do you dance?
no subject
Dance? [ He considers for a moment. ] I've, not actually tried it before. So, no. I don't dance...
[ There's no sense of shame in his voice. No members of his family are the sort to dance after all, nor are they sort to encourage it in any way.]
no subject
I see.
[ There are quite a few children around this bonfire. Some are playing, others are trying to dance while watched over by their parents. Raemiel falls silent, observant; but they are being observed in turn, and eventually one of the kids break away to approach and look at them. They're both people with blue hair, it stands out. ]
no subject
As the child breaks away to observe them both in turn, Ienzo pauses for a moment. Then he offers them a tentative smile and a small wave from his hand. ]
This world...is it similar at all to the one you come from, Raemiel?
no subject
In some ways. Magic exists, as well. But this world lacks what humans call 'digital technology'.
[ Raemiel is a traditional person, so he doesn't use them. Members of his council do use phones and computers for their trade, though. ]
no subject
It does, although.
[ He raises his hand, showing the watch. ]
At least we have these, even though logically they seem slightly out of place...
no subject
[ He peers at Ienzo. Digital advancement did coexist alongside magic for most changelings. There isn't really an incompatibility between them, at least from what he's seen. It's rather a matter of affordability. ]
no subject
Ah, I'm referring to the infrastructure. Given the functionality it has, it feels odd that this place hasn't applied similar technology where relevant in buildings or facilities. Especially given the sophistication of the magic found here.
[ Of course he's not been here long enough to fully grasp the limitations and dilemmas this world is experiencing. But this place reminds him of the brink his own home had once fallen to. It's hard for his mind to not churn over the possible ways of improving things, expanding what's already possible. ]
