[Sora isn't the only one with new additions to his anatomy. Because once the full moon came and went, Roxas had found his nails to be more like claws, his hair to be longer and more unruly, and a pair of grey-furred, dog-like ears atop his own head.]

[He's sitting at the table, scratching at one of his ears when Sora enters. He perks up, ears pricking as he does.]

...you too?

[Sora looks like he hasn't had much sleep thanks to the change but when he sees Roxas sitting there with his own changes Sora can't help but stare at him. His long furry ears twitch in response.]

Yeah- Huh? You're a dog like Ven too?!

[Almost just like Ventus now that Sora can actually see it. So here they are staring at each other.]

No way!

[Those ears flatten down a bit as Sora openly ogles him. He nods.]

Yeah, I think so. They look like his, at least. [Only instead of bright blonde, they were more grey]

You look a little different from Ven, though.

[Sora might look a little amused. Who knew that the two twins would turn out to be the exact same type of monsters too?]

I wonder if Vanitas were a monster if he'd turn out like me too.

[Now he's snickering lightly, his ears twitching with the motion.]

Yeah... to be honest, I'm glad for the difference. It's bad enough people keep confusing us.

[Demyx may have confused the two of them once or twice.]

You think so? [He smirks, thinking of Vanitas with tall rabbit ears like Sora.]

I mean, if Ventus and I look the same, it would make sense he would look like you.

Have people been confusing you two a lot then?

[They must get mixed up a lot how that there's so many new people around to notice. Sora himself never has a single issue with telling them apart and he could probably pick them out from miles away but that's just Sora. He's got a knack for his other and Ventus. He didn't carry them around in his heart for nothing.]

And probably! But Vanitas is a witch so he doesn't have to worry about that.

Well, there's obviously some people who point out I look like him.

[Sometimes accidentally, and sometimes on purpose, but that's mostly Vanitas.]

Yeah. Guess we can only imagine it.

[He pauses, a small frown on his face, before speaking up.]

What do you think about Vanitas?

[Sora tilts his head and his rabbit ears twitch when Roxas asks that very specific question about Vanitas and Sora can't help but look a bit sheepish.

Yeah, about Vanitas...]

Um...! As much as he probably would hate me saying it, I think he's one of us.

Yeah. He told me that we were all connected when I first met him.

[In so many words, at least. His ears angle to the side of his head, emphasizing the frown on his face.]

I don't get him.

First met him?

[Oh, he supposes that Roxas never got to meet Vanitas face to face like Sora had. That explains that. And sort of makes things a little more complicated.]

Yeah. It's true, though. Him, me, you and Ventus too.

[And a unseen mental fistbump for Xion.]

I also bonded with him here.

Yeah. I met him when I first arrived here.

[Face to face, at least. It's a little complicated with the five of them, Xion included.]

You bonded with him?

[That makes Roxas's eyes widen a bit, his ears perking in surprise.]

[Sora nods although he looks just a little sheepish about it. Most people look at Sora like he's nuts for doing so, so he might be sort of expecting it from Roxas too. Especially since Roxas doesn't know what to think of Vanitas.]

Yeah, when I first got here I found him and he needed a little help. He was really sick.

[Vanitas might not be happy with Sora for telling so many people that but it's the truth. But if Sora is anything it is stubborn. He's curious about his connections to his heart.]

But I mean, it does give me a chance to get to know him more too.

[Most may think Sora's nuts for bonding with someone like Vanitas, but Roxas knows Sora better than most. And he knows that if anyone could do so, it would be Sora, the boy who literally held three hearts in his own.]

[He listens carefully to Sora's explanation, and when he does he nods slowly. It honestly doesn't surprise him, Sora's response. He lets out a small breath, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.]

You do have a knack for connecting to people's hearts.

[Said as both a statement of fact and a light tease. But the smirk fades after a moment.]

I just... don't understand him. In a way, he reminds me of me, when I was in the Organization. But he doesn't believe that he has a chance to change anything. And he's stubborn about it, too.

But... wouldn't he want to have his own life, rather than merging with Ven's heart? [That's what Roxas had fought against, tooth and nail. So seeing Vanitas yearn for what he resisted was strange.]

[Honestly hearing Roxas say it out loud and with that small smirk on his lips? It gives Sora a lot of relief. He lets out a huff and smiles himself, his head tilting to the side with it. He's glad he has his former Nobody's understanding even if Sora knows he's probably being a little out-of-the-box about it too. But once Sora's made up his mind it's really hard to change it.

His smile falters when Roxas continues.]

Maybe Ven and Vanitas are just a little different than you and me, Roxas.

[Sora has always been supportive of Roxas wanting to be his own person and having his own life. Vanitas never really had that option because of his circumstances. He's barely ever had Ventus' support but that's not Ventus' fault either. He can't really blame Vanitas for craving that feeling. He can't really blame Ventus for not knowing of Vanitas for so long.]

I think it'll take him a little more time to realize what that's really like. To be his own whole. And his heart needs to heal on its own too, I think.

[Roxas was lucky enough to have Sora help him create his own heart. Vanitas isn't quite there yet.]

But I don't think he needs to change. He just needs to grow.

[Once Sora got his mind on something, it was nigh-impossible to shake him from it. It was an admirable trait, even if sometimes it led to Sora doing stupid things.]

Huh?

[Roxas blinks, confusion on his face as he listens to Sora's explanation. But when Sora explain it that way, his face settles into a look of understanding. He nods slowly; there's a lot of things he doesn't know about Ventus and Vanitas, but the way Sora explains it... it makes sense.]

You're right. He was one of Xehanort's vessels, after all.

[Even not counting Vanitas's past, the fact he'd been manipulated by Xehanort would be hard to overcome, now that he thought about it.]

Grow, huh?

Yeah he was and he never really had anyone there to help him out, you know? Xehanort manipulated him just like he did a lot of other people. So I can't really put it all on him for wanting to know what it feels like to have a heart that's whole.

[Sora knows that it's not possible for Ventus and Vanitas to join again, he cares deeply for Ventus as who he is now too but he can't fault Vanitas for wanting that feeling.]

I think he has a lot of growing to do. [He grins.] So lets do our best to help him, okay! Even if he growls at us the whole time.

[It makes a lot more sense when Sora explains it. As frustrating as it was to talk to Vanitas, looking at it from Sora's perspective does make sense. And truthfully, he can't fault Vanitas for wanting a whole heart either.]

[It's another reason why he can see elements of his own experiences in Vanitas. Hadn't he fought tooth and nail to keep his own heart?]

When you put it that way... You're right. [He gives a slow nod to Sora.] He's stubborn, but... he's probably just as lost as I was. I can understand that.

[The comparison between Vanitas and Roxas really does make a lot of sense too. Sora nods and smiles softly.]

Yeah. But at least this world is gonna give us a lot of chances to really get to know each other, right! And to find our way! All of us!

So how do you like having puppy ears anyway, Roxas?

[Geez, Sora, that enthusiasm is catchy. He chuckles and nods.]

Yeah, right. We will, especially if we’re in this together.

[Especially if Sora is driving them forward.]

Huh? Oh, well, they’re... okay? They feel weird. [One ear flicks down as he considers it.] And they feel weird when people touch them.

What about you and your rabbit ears?

[Feel weird when people touch them? Sora's going to go ahead and take that as an invitation. Before Roxas knows it Sora is coming right up into his personal space and reaching up to touch both of them with a gentle and curious scritch. Why hello there puppo ears!]

It feels weird??

Hey—!

[Before he can react, Sora’s hands are on his ears. He tenses a bit, but it doesn’t take long for him to lean into Sora’s touch, eyes drifting half-closed.]

[Sorry, Sora, Roxas.exe has stopped working.]

[Oh no, Roxas is so cute like this... Sora chuckles softly and continues his gentle pets and is sure to run his fingers along the fur so that it feels nice.]

It doesn't seem so weird. And they're so soft.

[Oh no, that feels nice. It might not feel weird for Sora, but Roxas is definitely looking like he’s about to drift off. His eyes drift closed as Sora continues to gently pet his ears, which begin to flatten into his hands.]

...feels funny. [The words are more mumbled than spoken]

[Roxas is such a good doggo. Sora can't help but grin and continue his pets while his own rabbit ears twitch curiously.]

That's a good Roxas...!

[Sora...]

Sora...

[He tries to sound admonishing, but it comes out more like a whine than an actual reprimand. He opens one eye to frown at Sora, but it comes out as more of a pout. But truthfully? It feels really nice, if the way he hasn’t stopped Sora from petting him is any indication.]
