[OPEN] We were cold and we were clear
Who: Newt Scamander(
newtralize and You!
When: Throughout the month
Where: Various locations
What: Quests, Event, and general prompts.

I. Cold Weather, Warm Company

[The common space at the Phoenix Tear is in disarray as of late. From wrapping paper to string to ribbon to bows. If it isn't items to wrap presents, there was the items that were meant to be wrapped. There didn't seem to be a space that wasn't occupied with something. Sitting on the ground and surrounded by presents is Newt himself. He has bows stuck to him as he carefully is wrapping a box.
The petalwolves in Newt's care aren't really helping much as they shred up paper and roll around in it. At least they're cute.
He sighs after a moment though as he watches the pups play.] They're darling, but they're really not conductive to productivity. [He glances up finally.] Sorry, did you need something?
B.
[There's been a lot more activity in the barracks as of late. Plenty of Monsters and refugees can be found there. Why exactly?
The smell of food wafts in the air and plenty of the less fortunate have bowls full of a warm and hearty stew and bread in their hands. A soup kitchen had been set up to help them get through the chill of Winter and fill their empty stomachs.
Perhaps you're here to assist or want a meal. Newt is kind of flitting about to and fro though. He can be found in the kitchen helping with food prep and cooking or he can be found outside serving meals or sitting with some and chatting with them. He's a bit all over the place, but he isn't hard to get ahold of. Just get his attention before he disappears off again.]
II. Snow Way Out
[The weather doesn't really deter Newt in anyway. He's used to it, if anything. England got quite chilly at times after all and he had traveled through all sorts of weathers while abroad for the year he was researching for his book. He also had a tendency to think of others before himself, so of course he ends up assisting.
Newt can be found transporting supplies or helping with repairs that can be managed given the weather. He's become a rather common face around the Refugee District.
He can even be found helping out in the Aristocratic District by shoveling snow and clearing pathways. Despite the way they might treat the Mirrorbound and him in particular, he's not the type to let others suffer when he can assist. Still, it would be nice if they didn't look at him with disdain or seemed to be more appreciative.
Newt wipes his brow, feeling quite warm despite the weather. Constantly on the move really helps stave it off at least.] There's still so much to be done...
III. Kiss-tletoe
[Newt is pretty sure mistletoe is the bane of his life during the Holidays. Social interaction is already enough of a pain to manage, but the tradition of mistletoe definitely doesn't instill him with particular joy.
Interacting with people? Fine. Kissing strangers because of some ridiculous tradition? Absolutely not.
It's too bad Newt doesn't get a choice when he gets stuck under a sprig with someone else. Not only was it a public setting (he was just wandering the streets and window shopping), but there were a few people hollering. Newt's face is probably turning a bright red at this moment and the man looks like he all but wants the Earth to swallow him hole. He's just very flustered about it and it shows easily.] I- Well, I believe we should, uhm, get on with it so they say.
IV. Eat, Drink & Be Merry
[He ends up at the park for a little bit. He was curious to see all the dishes laid out and adds one of his own to it.
It's nice to see everyone mix and mingle in ways. It's obvious that many stick to who they're comfortable with, but there are those that seem to venture out too. He has a cup of warm cider in hand as he sits and listens to stories or people sing with a soft smile on his face. Despite it seemingly be a Holiday for people to join together, Newt is off on his own.]
V. Hunting of the Wren
[Decidedly, he isn't too fond of this tradition. Watching creatures caged and being paraded around leaves a sour taste in his mouth. He doesn't do anything about it, but he's very disapproving of it.
That, and the pranks. Newt had always been at the wrong end of pranks and it seems to be nothing new here too. He huffs a little as he finds himself on the floor and in the snow looking quite unimpressed. The pranksters merely laugh a bit as they go on their merry way and Newt gingerly moves to get to his feet and starts patting snow off himself.] Absolute rubbish. [He shakes his head a bit.] I think I'll just say that I have no love for whatever this is.
VI. Wildcard
[I didn't put a plotting comment up due to time constraints, but I'm happy to plot things out. You can PM me or catch me on plurk. I'm happy to do anything pertaining to the available event options or more general December activities! I'll also reply to any starters written.]

[He looks over at Newt and gives him a warm, fond smile, a little brighter at the thought of opening gifts together. Celebrating a holiday together. It sounds... really nice. Nicer than he could have hoped for, being in Aefenglom.] That sounds perfect. I'm- I'd love that. [Newt can probably feel through the Bond the sincerity that accompanies that statement, the twinge of excitement about enjoying the holiday with his Bonded and their animals.
Stopping in front of the shop, Hiccup looks at Newt and then at the display of coats in the window. The blue one, with the brass accents and embroidery, captures his attention immediately. He can almost see him in it, through the reflection on the glass. It had just been a thought, but suddenly, Hiccup really wants to get it for him. He's not sure why, other than he thinks his Bonded should be warm and have a nice coat.] Yeah, really nice. What- uh, what do you think about that blue one? [It's going to be pretty hard to hide his actual intentions here. But he also won't be told no.]
no subject
But he pauses when the other asks and Newt looks back at the coat.] Oh. Oh no, Hiccup. It's a gorgeous coat, but it's much too luxurious for me. [And Newt has always been frugal. The dress of his era meant he looked relatively overdressed in a modern time, but he definitely didn't buy clothes meant to be expensive but comfortable instead. Even then, his clothes were ill fitting at times. Pants that might be too short for his legs to clothes that have been mended or probably fixed with magic.
Newt never really spoiled himself in any capacity.] What I have is really good enough.
no subject
And he's definitely been called out for wanting to spoil Newt a little, too. The more he insists it's too luxurious for him, the more the set of Hiccup's expression changes into something stubborn. He's going to dig his heels in. He's a viking, after all - when he sets his mind to something, it's no use arguing.] I can tell you like it, so why not? You deserve more than 'good enough' sometimes, even if you think you don't.
[He takes his hand, and he marches them into the shop, only letting go to have a brief conversation with the owner. Initially, the man seems skeptical of the two Mirrorbound, but his tune changes completely when Hiccup digs out a folded wad of cune notes.] The blue one, in the window. And- can we make sure the sleeves are the right length?
no subject
It's really quite fin-Hiccup- [He barely can protest against the other before he finds himself dragged into the shop by the other. One moment they're outside and the next moment he finds himself being ushered to a large mirror getting his measurements taken while the coat is being removed off the mannequin.] This really, truly, is unnecessary.
[As if Newt's words were gonna deter the other.]
no subject
Hiccup is just, perhaps, a little more blatantly stubborn sometimes. Like now. He can spoil his Bonded a little too, right? He watches, a little smug, as the tailor goes about getting Newt's measurements to make some minor adjustments to the coat in the window, ensuring it will fit just perfectly. Hiccup crosses his arms over his chest, smiling like he's won something.] Sure. [It's unnecessary, but he's doing it anyway.]
The blue is a nice color for you. I like it.
no subject
Eventually they slip the coat onto Newt to pin any alterations down. The blue is vibrant against Newt's paler complexion and Newt's leaner build is very obvious wearing the long, luxurious coat. It's no surprise that blue is a good color on the other with the coat he usually sports, but his old coat had lost that new, vibrant look that new clothes had.
And of course the tailor and their assistants turn Newt to Hiccup to confirm that he wanted to buy this coat before they started making the adjustments on it. Newt, who was shyly looking at the ground wearing a coat he didn't imagine was something he should have.]
no subject
It really does look good on him. The color suits him well, the cut emphasizes his handsome figure, and he settles back to watch the assistants adjust the hems with a few little domestic spells. They have it sewn up and ready in no time, and the owner asks,] Would you like to wear it out, sir?
[Hiccup grins widely.] You should. It looks great.
no subject
It's how he finds himself standing side by side with Hiccup in a luxurious coat back on the streets of Aefenglom.] Uhm. Thank you. You really didn't have to.
no subject
I know. [Newt never would have actually asked for it on his own, after all, so there was no obligation.] But I wanted to. It really does look nice on you. You- you absolutely deserve nice things, and it's not like money is hard to come by. [Well, it is, for people who aren't rich dragon scale barons.] You never treat yourself so it's up to me to treat you.
no subject
[He smiles a little. Hiccup didn't care about that, did he? Just that he wanted to give him something.] You'll spoil me rotten with that mindset. [As if Newt would ever hit that point.]
no subject
[He shoots him a smile over his shoulder, as pleased as Toothless when he's slipped extra treats.] Would that be such a bad thing?
no subject
[Newt shakes his head with a laugh.] You really are something.
no subject
no subject
Do you need to be anywhere else or can we return to the barracks? [Not that he minds accompanying Hiccup with errands; just that Newt thinks he has been out in public long enough. The public kiss and everything has certainly flustered the quiet man more than enough.]
no subject
And here he seems a little sheepish.] Ah- I actually still need to deliver a couple of things- [He got distracted when he saw Newt, wanting to spend time with him despite having other things to do. He doesn't regret a second of this, even the awkward mistletoe kiss. (Maybe especially not the awkward mistletoe kiss. It's fine.)] But I'll come by in an hour or two, when I'm finished? We can talk about what we're going to do for Christmas-slash-Snoggletog! [Because that's something he's very excited for now.]
no subject
I'll see you then Hiccup.
no subject
He whistles for Toothless, who finally bounds over, abandoning the natives giving him attention.] Right! I'll see you then. C'mon, bud, let's get moving.
no subject
[Newt lingers a moment to watch the other leave. He can't help but press fingers to his lips distractedly before turning to start heading back to the barracks.]
