DiplomaTea | Grand Opening! | Mingle Post
Who: Any and all!
When: December 1st.
Where: The Haven.
What: Grand Opening of a new, mirrorbound owned shop!
Warnings: None.
DiplomaTea, a Florist and Tea Shop, is located on a street corner in The Haven. Today is its Grand Opening, complete with festivities to mark the occasion. The shop has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, though a gothic aesthetic permeates throughout. Skulls, thorns, and lace are in much of the decor.
Above the main entrance hangs a dyed elk skull, decorated with white carnations and tea leaves. Entering leads one to a tidy shop, flower arrangements filling every possible surface. The air within is warm and scented by whichever section one might be in. Even the smells filling the shop are well organized and complimentary.

The floor plan includes plenty of space to walk through and admire the floral displays. Double doors are locked open, leading out to a covered, outdoor porch. Many are sitting to enjoy a cup of tea. The whole shop is pleasantly heated, the porch space a middle ground between the warm interior and cold, rainy streets beyond. A small stage accommodates a single performer with a compact instrument. Live music is playing throughout the opening day. Inside the shop is a long bar to take orders for fresh brewed tea and to make sales.
I. Enchant me by the Mistletoe
Over the door frames and upon the tea tables are a peculiar little plant, wrapped in ribbon. Being near to these cause a certain reaction. It's not so much a compulsion as an idea. An idea to kiss or hold the person nearest to you. Whether platonic or romantically depends on your ideas of them.
If they are a perfect stranger, well, it's likely to fall romantic. The magic is funny like that, keen to fluster!
It is only an idea, lasting so long as one remains near to the mistletoe. Or... until the idea is so indulged. Guests are more than welcome to take the enchanted bundle along with them, the effects should last a couple days. The staff have more on hand to set out in replacement... and magically woven ribbons of their own, which block such ideas from forming in their own minds. They don't need such distractions! It's a busy enough day as it is!
II. Illusory Flowers
A Grand Opening special! Roses and lily flowers with peculiar properties. Everett grows all the flowers stocking the shop himself and his magic mixes with the witch he's bonded to, Sokie. Some of her illusion magic affected this batch, in fun and often times unpredictable ways.
These flowers are still closed, waiting for the right moment to bloom. They are being given away freely, a single flower at a time, both inside and out front of the shop. When they pass hands, the petals open to blossom, and a small illusion springs forth!
Never harmful, but always surprising. Sometimes the illusion is visual, sometimes with a sound or a smell to accompany. Rarely do the aspects seem well matched, fire cracker like eruptions may leave behind the smell of ocean water. Small, ghostly creatures often springing forth, as if born from the flower itself. There's a wide variety that can manifest, even Everett's not sure of all the possibilities.
No matter what it is, it fades from the senses within a minute. All that's left then is a lovely, if ordinary flower.
III. A Springtide Blessing
The shop has much to offer with flower arrangements, but the tea blends are the real centerpiece on display. Everett prides himself on his perfect flavor combinations, which he assures have as much significance to them as any flower. For the grand opening, there are three specialty blends. Blessings of the Springtide, he calls them. All are available for tastings and purchase.

a. Adelheid's Heart
A floral, sweet tea. This is served with lemon and fresh honey, pairing well with tea biscuits. Easy to drink, even for those without a fondness for tea. Refreshing and said to always uplift one's spirits.
b. Enki's Ambition
A sharp, minty tea. Though it is served warm, it leaves a strangely cold feeling when swallowed. Soothing, all the same, and very brisk. Any congestion of the nose or throat is sure to be remedied by a cup of this. The ideal tea when in need of focus and clarity.
c. Ardric's Warmth
This tea is an absolute kick in the teeth. It's harsh and bitter. There's a spice to it that builds on itself, making it more and more difficult to drink in time. The caffeine is highly concentrated, there's no getting to sleep after a cup of this. Everett will reward a free tin of it to anybody who can get down an entire cup in the store. Most people cough or wretch after a single sip, a sure sign that it's been well crafted. It's said to burn out illness and boost one's fortitude against curses.
IV. Warmth in more than Tea
To mark the occasion, there's more than tea blends on offer this day. In two warmed barrels is a bounty of apple cinnamon cider. One with alcohol and one without. The former isn't very high content, just enough to warm the belly and relax with.
This is served throughout the day, but becomes particularly tempting once the sky darkens in the afternoon. Overcast weather settles above the city, then. Rain will begin pattering down over the covered porch come evening, which is bright with lantern light and tea candles set out on the tables.
Grab a seat, if you can, it's the perfect hour to watch people go by or cuddle up with a companion. That or merely pop in to escape the rain, warm up before going the rest of the way home.
All prompts are open to any and all to play around with! The Grand Opening is from morning on the 1st of December well into the night. OOC Questions can be asked on the permanent locations post or Everett can be asked ICly in his TL here. DiplomaTea's permanent open post available through the Location Page is open to anybody who wishes to use the setting in the future. Have fun and tag around!

Of course you didn't! No knees cracking, today. [though his ankles sure hurt, he won't complain over that, it's his own fault. And the fault of being a faun with a busybody personality. Sitting down feels very nice.]
Thank you for all your hard work. I do swear to not work you to the bone, after this.
no subject
It's only a matter of time, old man!
[He shakes his head.] No, it's fine! It was fun. Nice to get out of the house. [Now if only he can get Jeremy to do the same...]
no subject
[Everett catches the scent of that tea on the air and even he winces slightly at it.]
Is that the blend you've gone with? Brave!
no subject
[Rich blinks and observes his tea with confusion. He's been drinking from the cup just fine up until now...]
I think it's got a big kick to it, but I like the spice a lot. Is it supposed to be bad?
[Rich, have you just... not noticed the tears in your eyes from every sip?]
no subject
I am always grateful for your fine company. Always. [pat pat! He'll take his hand back, not wanting to linger strangely on the gesture. He quirks his head at the tea, boldly half drank as it were]
Drink much more and you'll be awake the whole of the night. No matter how exhausted! [the caffeine content of that blend is off the charts, the Springtide used to say it would wake even the nearly dead]
no subject
I'm glad, then... I'm glad for yours.
[He really is, though it's still odd to have older people dote over him like this. No adult back home ever thought Rich would amount to much of anything, anyways...]
Shit, really? Well, I wasn't even sure if I was going to be able to sleep tonight. This can't make things worse.
no subject
Language, my dear. [he reaches for some cream on the table settings, pouring that into another cup, then mixing some honey into it, carefully stirring with a teaspoon]
You deserve a good nights rest, after working a long day. Here, this should quell some of it. [a remedy for the remedy, he pushes over the cup with honey and cream.]
no subject
I appreciate that... but you don't need to fuss so much.
[He really doesn't know how much the remedy is going to help him sleep considering his silent, empty house, but he still takes a sip of it. At least it soothes the spice and his sinuses... he may not have realized just how overwhelming the blend actually was for him. He rubs his eyes and sniffles, giving Everett a wry smile.]
You must be dealing with a lot of criers because of this blend, huh?
no subject
Dragons seem to genuinely enjoy it. Which isn't a surprised to me. Ardric was a Fire Dragon, it only makes sense a blend made to give his blessing is kind to his like.
no subject
[Rich also got the warning, though the promise of spice over mint, which he finds kind of odd as a taste, was what made the decision for him. Though now that he thinks of it...]
Hey, were you just trying to stop me from drinking it so you wouldn't have to give any away? [Pout.] I bet I'd like it even more if I got a bunch of it for free...
no subject
You're welcome to as much as you could drink, my dear. Of any such tea I have here. Ah- [he pauses, before standing, idea clearly having struck him]
Wait right here. I will gather a more special blend for us to share. A moment. [With that he just retreats to the store room inside. When he returns, it's with a plain tin with no ribbon, which wasn't like anything on the shelves. He sits back across from Rich with a fond look, beginning to fastidiously make them a fresh pot of whatever he brought back.]
no subject
So what goes into your special blend? You got me all curious now.
[Plus, Rich is just feeling touched that Everett would want to share it with him.]
no subject
It's an herbal blend, hibiscus primarily. [no extra caffeine! He's cutting you off, Rich. Some little bit of sugar is all. The flavor is robust and homely, more flowery than hot cocoa and cinnamon making it just a bit snappy. He pushes Rich over a cup before making his own]
no subject
[It does make his heart ache a little, that casual slip of Everett's past that Rich knows would be rare for him to talk about. Rich is glad he was trusted enough to confide just that much in, but he wishes he could ask a bit more.
But hell, maybe he could. Maybe Rich is just projecting a bit.]
I had an older brother. It's crazy how hard he worked to keep me out of trouble.
[Maybe that will prompt a bit more sharing? Until then, Rich reaches out to take his cup, smiling at the smell of it.]
Really flowery. Good, though, [He adds when he takes a sip. The warm cinnamon is certainly appreciated, along with the sugar. It definitely tastes like a warm home... so he's not surprised Everett's so attached to it.]
no subject
Would you tell me about your brother, Rich? A fond tale of him, perhaps? [Everett enjoys such sharing and reminiscing, it gives so much insight!]
no subject
[Rich isn't sure why his changes took him in that direction, besides the magic apparently enjoying the irony of giving him the powers that nearly killed him. As for his brother... Rich smiles sadly. It's hard to think about him when they had still been mending their relationship when Rich disappeared.]
Reese was really cool. He used to teach me all sorts of things... how to play with his drum set, about secret areas in games. I would draw him a picture for every birthday, and even when I sucked, he always kept every one. He was so smart. I wasn't surprised when he got that full scholarship for college, he obviously took after our mom in the intelligence department.
no subject
[he speaks with utmost fondness, before laughing. Oh. Was that hypocritical? He catches on-]
That is, not to speak down upon myself. We all have our strong suits and weakness, after all. It's taken me until this age of mine to learn some sense of responsibility. She was always more keen and dedicated in that regard. [he sips his tea before settling it between his gloved palms. How nice it is to share tales of family]
College for you brother is quite the accomplishment! A high honor among the Springtide, to seek the life of a scholar. Did he have a specialty? [not... super a modern understanding of college, but the tradition is similar at it's roots]
no subject
[Rich does note that slight put down and frowns a bit, looking suspiciously at Everett. He definitely has no right to call it out, but he's going to be keeping an eye on him.]
I'd say you're way more responsible than some people here. But I guess you're right, we all have things we're best at.
[At the topic of his brother, though, he beams, definitely proud.]
Yeah! It sucked that he had to move away, but... I'm proud of him. He went into engineering, which is really tough.
no subject
[the family heads are often Vampires and those beings have a special sort of immortality, allowing them to make great advancements in technology and engineering, well beyond the abilities of the Above World. Springtide engineering was always the most enviable thing they had all their own]
Your brother would be sought after among my people.
no subject
[He takes another sip of the tea, the sweet taste lifting his mood enough and maybe assisting in breaking down a few of the walls holding him back from saying too much.]
I guess I don't really blame him. I don't want him to be held back anymore.
[It's sad to think Rich may not see him again... but it's probably for the best, too. Rich wants him to be happier and in a better situation.]
no subject
I don't believe I asked you, dear Rich. Is it your goal to return home? So many of us Mirrorbound seem to want nothing more than that. Quite understandable, after all. [Everett felt like one of the few contented to stay in Aefenglom, even given the chance to return. Not because of a wish to escape home, he loves Myddvai and all it's many wonders, but this land has so much to explore. Everett wants to discover so much more before he would ever wish to return, himself.]
no subject
I have some people that are important to me here... but a lot of important friends back home, too. In some ways, I'd probably be able to live so long as I had the friends I've made here...
[His expression darkens just slightly.]
But I can't stay somewhere the SQUIP is. I may as well be signing my whole life away if I do that.
no subject
Yes, Myr has mentioned this to me. Of a conflict you and he were involved in, against such a demon. It is also a Mirrorbound, as we are... quite troublesome when the Coven wishes to leave the policing one another to... ourselves. [in some regards, Everett likes that idea, as he's weary of the Coven in many regards. On one hand, keeping their nose out of otherworlder business is a good thing... but on the other, lacking their support could be distressing. No easy solution, no obvious path to the best outcome... He can see why they are hesitant.]
no subject
It's from my world. I had one... Myr would call it 'possessing' me... about a year ago. It's the reason I look so fucked up, pretty much. The reason I act it too, sometimes.
no subject
A looming threat like that is no small burden. Are you living in a safe place, lad? Not to presume you cannot take care of yourself, but I caution you towards the security that caring company can bring. [be safe, Rich! Myr looked out for him well in the past, but Everett is no fighter.]
If ever you need a haven, my home is open to you. At any hour or day, I do so promise it is no trouble.
