[ Located past the fanciest manor houses is something a little more modest. The most prominent thing one would notice about it is the front yard, which someone obviously spends some time in, though the cutting of certain bushes is a little close to amateur. More importantly, it looks a little messy but very inviting, and there's almost always the smell of something warm and delicious coming from inside the house. The lush and flowering garden in the back has a recently-scrubbed fountain and running water, as well as a near-permanent host of small birds. Is it magic? Probably. Most of the flowers are roses, though, which are a bit hardier than your usual flowers.
The interior is just as cozy, with a fire in the hearth that's almost always going, and plenty of books loaned or purchased from shops. Furnishings are occasionally sparse but the kitchen is fully-stocked, as is the family room where most people spend their time. The dining table exists and it's nothing fancy, but there's almost always a smorgasbord of fruit and other snacks left out for visitors.
New this month are tiny sigils drawn in faintly glowing paint along the windows and doors. Teleportation wards are in place, as well as soundproofing for each bedroom (ahem), so anyone teleporting directly inside the house will find themselves repelled.
There is a spare housekey under the mat, though, if someone gets locked out. ]

Emet-Selch doesn't immediately glance back or even acknowledge being addressed, only making a sound of disapproval as he shuts another set of cabinet doors. At least he's putting stuff back where he found it? He may not respect personal property, but he's not untidy.]
No. I don't like any of these.
[Nevermind that he'd had no complaints before. But he turns back to K'rihnn eventually, tilting his head in slight question at the sweaters.]
--Is it that cold?
no subject
A pity. Well, if there's anything you'd like me to make for you, let me know.
[The Miqo'te washes his hands, but stills for a moment at the question. He shuts off the tap and dries his hands as he answers. There's a small frown on his face.]
Ah... I've been feeling the cold a bit more keenly than normal. Hopefully, it doesn't mean I'm developing some sort of cold.

Emet-Selch leans back against the countertop as he watches him.]
So even heroes can fall ill? ...I hope it's not catching, if that's what it is.
[Because getting a cold is the last thing he needed.]
no subject
Aye, even one as skittish as me.
[Though, the word he really wants to use is "disappointing," but he's not about to show just how self-disparaging he is to Emet-Selch. That's not something he's quite ready to be so honest about to the Ascian.
The petit Miqo'te looks over at at their stray Garlean, looking a little concerned. He might not having the magic anymore, but his training as a healer still is ingrained in his mind.]
I hope not, but you don't look well yourself, Hades. Is aught amiss?
no subject
Yes, I've noticed your tendency to startle. If you're like that to everyone, I'm surprised you ever found the time for heroism at all.
[Probably not the most reassuring statement, but the Ascian is not the most reassuring person. Though his response would be... mixed, if he knew of K'rihnn's self-doubt.
At the question, he sighs, slightly annoyed, if not at the small miqo'te.]
Is aught not amiss, in this place? But I'm healthy enough, I think, I know how to look after a mortal host.
no subject
Believe it or not, I was worse when I started out as an adventurer. I could hardly speak to people back then.
[Yet, he still has a long way to go before he feels worthy of even being called a hero. The petit tia huffs a quiet chuckle.]
I suppose that's fair. My apologies, I wasn't doubting your ability to look after yourself. You just looked a bit listless.
no subject
If you're so unsuited- why did you start? What made you pick up the sword?
[It was idle curiosity, but- also the sort of thing he'd never had the chance, nor inclination to ask before. For all that Emet-Selch knew about the Warrior as hero, there was little he knew about them as people. It was likely useless information, but... there was no harm in it, perhaps.
He nods at the apology, hesitant for a moment, before pushing it back. At least for the moment, he was unsure of showing too much weakness himself, despite K'rihnn's kindness.]
no subject
Still, he'll be truthful. The purple-haired Miqo'te doesn't see any harm in sharing a bit of his history.]
'Tis a simple answer, though twofold, I'll admit.
[Grabbing a pot and some ingredients, K'rihnn decides to make some sort of meat stew while he talks.]
I took up the lifestyle to further both my skills in combat, and... to try and become a better, braver person. At first, it was in an effort to help better my tribe, to make myself stronger so that I didn't make them weaker, but after a while....
[He shrugs slightly as he puts stock in the pot and starts chopping vegetables.]
Well, after a while, I realized I couldn't go home. I couldn't just put down the title, especially not when we fled to Ishgard. Too many came to rely on me. So... I stopped thinking about becoming a better person for my tribe, and started thinking about becoming a better person for my own sake.

It was an acceptable, sympathetic sort of reason. Much better than fighting for glory or possessions. Not that he would've expected that from K'rihnn (or, perhaps, any of the Warriors, but it was interesting to hear one's specific reasons). The selflessness, the desire to do one's part for a group. But not entirely forgetting about himself either.
A difficult balance to strike.
In the end he asks one question.]
So... do you feel you've succeeded?
no subject
No... not entirely, anyway. I still feel as if I have a long way to go.
[He pauses for a moment before continuing.]
Perhaps I'll never feel otherwise, but I won't let that stop me from trying. I can't. 'Twould be a betrayal of myself if I stopped, even when it feels like change and bravery are as distant from my reach as the stars themselves.
no subject
[It's a simple, decided approval, his tone- not quite cold, but certain. Resolved.]
If you had decided you'd reached your pinnacle, I'd be disappointed. You've taken up stewardship of our star. That's not a responsibility to be accepted lightly.
[But K'rihnn had answered correctly. Too proud, and he wouldn't have accepted it. But humility, tempered by the intention to improve... yes. If it had been someone else, Emet-Selch would've dismissed mere intention, but- considering K'rihnn's list of accomplishments, he was willing to accept that the miqo'te was serious. Serious and capable- an unusual combination.]
no subject
And nor should it be accepted lightly. If we're to honor your memories, we must strive to keep trying to change for the better.
[At least, that's how this Warrior of Light has decided as he moves forward in life.]
