[ 1-A. It's rotten, so rotten here (Many Mans' Trash) ]
[ Tasking someone like Berserker to convince packrats to give up their old junk for Samuin is ... not a great idea. Sure, he's intimidating and willing to do the job -- his methods are just too direct for what may be a delicate task.
He walks stone-faced out of a particular problem house with a bagful of garbage with the source of the problem clinging to his ankle. "You can't take it away from me! That's all I have to remember Jane! She'll be back, I have to keep it to show her I waited!"
Seeing someone who may or may not be familiar, Berserker looks to them. ]
Do you want to help me with something?
[ That something being the now sobbing, desperate man trying to stop the dragon from dealing with his garbage. ]
[ 1-B. You gotta take the trash out (Many Mans' Trash pt. 2) ]
[ Alternatively, Berserker can be found later at night dumping the garbage left in the poorer districts of the city back in the aristocratic district. Petty? Yes. But he was told to clean up the streets, they didn't tell him not to take the garbage back to its source. He's careful not to leave it in front of any known mirrorbound homes, mostly because he assumes it didn't come from them.
If someone questions him or stops him, he simply shrugs. ]
I'm taking care of the trash. This is where it came from, isn't it?
[ 2. Running with monsters in shadow (Collectables) ]
[ Now here's something he's more familiar with and, to some extent, enjoys: hunting. Petalwolves are hardly a threat and are trivial for him to catch. They're still challenging to stalk, though, and that's what he's doing right now. As he makes his way through the underbrush, crouched low, he's not paying attention to anything other than his quarry.
Which is exactly why he barrels into the poor soul in front of him. To his credit, Berserker stops, but he doesn't offer a hand up on anything. He stares down at them instead. ]
Are you catching them, too?
[ 3. With the heart of a dragon we ride ]
[ It's late evening near a less populous area of the city, late enough that it's mostly deserted. Berserker can be found in a less familiar form: his full-sized dragon transformation. About the size of an elephant, he's not exactly the most inconspicuous thing around. His black scales glint crimson in the pale moonlight. Red scales beneath his eyes and along his chest and belly mimic his tattoos perfectly. He's recognizable to those that know him, at least, his horns, wings, and tail also a familiar shape. Unlike in Dorchacht, he's considerably calmer without the impact of feral instincts and a burning rage tearing at him. This means he's capable of talking!!
His head swivels around on his long neck as he hears someone approach. Though he doesn't speak immediately, he does cock his head to one side as if to ask "what are you doing here?" ]

Diarmuid and I met in a dream, as well. [ How much does he actually want to reveal to Flat about it? The answer is not much. Mostly because their initial meeting wasn't pleasant... ] I told him of his weaknesses and how he failed me...And yet he still wanted to be in my presence after that.
[ He really thought that would be the end of it. Joke's on him! ]

I'm glad to hear that Cú's mastered the art of making friends. [Okay, he really does laugh this time, eyes bright and mischievous.] In his own way.
[The reminder of their own start does little to dampen his mood. In months past, it might have been uncomfortable but he's come to appreciate the way things developed from there. Diarmuid nods along as the dragon talks, picking his own coffee back up and taking a drink before he joins in.]
That more or less covers it. We only really formed a Bond out of necessity but... well. You can see for yourself that it outlasted that.
[Speaking of...]
Are you a witch, Flat?
no subject
[ he says it earnestly, not too bothered by the fact that he’s saying this with berserker right in front of them. better that than to do it behind his back, no?!
he nods when diarmuid asks whether he’s a witch or not, looking rather proud of himself as he continues. ]
Yes! Both here and back home, actually—I’m a magus of the El Melloi School of Modern Magecraft!
no subject
You lucked out becoming a witch here, then.

[Try as he might to stop it, Diarmuid's reaction is immediate. His shoulders sink, his brow creases and his entire demeanour seems to temporarily darken. The name alone brings back such complicated- and negative or ambivalent at best- feelings that he isn't quite sure how to respond at first; he comes from the same school of magecraft as his former Master, yes, but that's no reason to think badly of Flat. It's just... associations are hard to break. Irritation at first but then anger, a flash of humilation and rage across those golden eyes that he can't disguise.
But, if nothing else, he's honest.]
... my Master was Lord El-Melloi. It would be in poor taste to speak ill of him so I'd rather not discuss it.
[He forces a smile nonetheless, expression carefully calm in spite of the growing unease in the pit of his stomach. As distant as it seems now, he hadn't expected it to be so affecting a memory.]
You must find the magecraft here easier to pick up on, at least.
no subject
until diarmuid himself explains it. and in response? he laughs, shaking his head. ]
Oh, I’m so sorry, you have the wrong Lord there. That one was Reines’ brother— he has been dead for fifteen years now. [ he shrugs, like it’s not really something that doesn’t really matter anymore—never did, in fact. diarmuid could have spoken ill as much as he wanted and flat wouldn’t have cared. ] Also he was the Lord in some other place.
I’m talking about Lord El Melloi the Second. Also known as Waver Velvet!
[ sip tea—again, he’s very casual with this, even moving onto the next topic with ease. ]
But the magic here isn’t too difficult. I’m just not compatible with it yet.
no subject
...Though leave it to Flat to just keep going and keep saying more and more absurd things. He maintains his silence for a bit longer. ]
You seem...adaptable, Flat. You'll manage fine.
[ If someone can protect him from himself. ]

So. Kayneth is dead- at least, in Flat's time. The last he saw him was through a haze of fury and blood where he sat in his wheelchair cradling Sola-Ui in his arms. Alive but not really. Now that the anger has faded, he can feel nothing but apathy for the shell of the man he once served; it matters little to him whether those fifteen years referred to the Grail War or some time after that.
Kayneth is dead and his student- his peculiar, highly strung, fiercely courageous young student has taken his place. He must be rolling in his grave; there wasn't a single soul on that first night who didn't hear the condescension, the sheer disdain in his voice, when he spoke to the young mage. In private, he'd witnessed it more times than just that. From the moment he was summoned, he knew of Waver's existence on some level and the bitterness that his little stunt had borne; this was the boy, the rankless, nameless no one who dared to steal from him. Waver Velvet.
And gods. Gods, Diarmuid is so proud of him.]
... Waver as a Lord in magus society... unbelievable. [Diarmuid manages a small laugh.] I'm... glad to hear it. Truly. I'm not sure if you know but I'm also Bonded to him.
no subject
[ flat smiles wide the moment that waver is mentioned, his eyes full of the pride that most of the el melloi class of modern magecraft shares.
there is no one he's more fond of than waver. ]
He becomes an incredible person. It's just that he doesn't believe it yet-- although I don't think he ever will. But I'm so glad I got to meet him the way that he is now. He's so much fun to be with!
no subject
Odd how Waver is the uniting thread between them...Berserker feels a bit like an intruder in that sense. He had no connection to Waver before coming here and it just feels strange to be in the situation he's in now. An uncomfortable feeling settles in the pit of his stomach and he tries his best to ignore it. He knows little of Waver's past and only knows of what he's been through here...and in Dorchacht. His discomfort grows as he continues to sit in silence.
Not quite the experience he had in mind today. ]
...You've learned from him well, it seems, [ is all he manages to say. There's more he could say about Waver and the strength and resilience he has, but it's not his place. Instead, he praises Flat while ignoring the confusing emotions he's experiencing. ]
no subject
Hmm. You'll probably learn very different things from Cú.
[Reluctantly, he moves away- though he can't resist trailing a hand across his bicep as he does so. It's meant to be soothing, yes, but it's also a pointedly open show of affection; he isn't sure how much Flat knows of their relationship but he seems bright enough to pick up on the hints.]
You've both talked about Bonding, haven't you? If you wanted my blessing then you have it but neither of you seem the sort to care about that kind of thing.
no subject
[ flat doesn't seem to be bothered by how the two of them are trying to comfort each other--to be frank, he doesn't care. he's aware that cu and diarmuid have their own lives, and is willing to respect it. he just can't understand it. ]
Well, more like he has. Not going to lie, I'm not really into the idea of Bonding in general, but... [ his gaze moves from diarmuid to cu, and he gives him a fond smile. ] I think Bonding with Cu would be great!
no subject
Flat's smile is met with the dragon's usual indifferent gaze. He's still not sure why he's grown so fond of him so quickly...Guess that's what happens when you murder someone together. ]
Bonding has done a lot for me, so of course I'm going to talk about it. [ He's not really offended at Flat's wording -- anyone who's spoken to Berserker for longer than a few minutes knows his attitude on Bonds. ] I just wanted you to be aware of Flat so there were no...surprises later.
[ A person like Flat isn't a person you just want to spring on someone unannounced. ]
I doubt many people could handle taking on a Bond with you with the way you act.
