she may be acting through anger, but what did she know of this bird? what monster would actively walk the wilde without safety, open to infection? would she wait for feral behavior when no one else could tame the beast? she was not inside the walls of aefenglom. she was not from aefenglom. she was out here, fending for herself, with a family to keep safe. her choice was made as she stalks, closer and closer to the harpy snatching up food and moldy hay she’s left behind to distract.
the gods will follow you, she hushes under her breath as she pulls her arrow back, releasing as she exhales— and striking the bird right where she said she would in a snap. the left side of its chest from behind. a cry rings out, almost a bark, and down the goose goes. lagertha moves quickly, and lands a second arrow to black out the monster’s consciousness.
she does not want suffering. she just wants it to stop before it gets worse. ]

It has definitely been into something that it should not be into, and the sudden flow of blood has the Emperor leaping back, staring down at the creature]
What?! What is this?!
no subject
she has yet to see what the other shrieks about. ]
Is it not blood?

[Her attention has focused almost entirely on the creature's eyes. Eyes that are more man than beast.]
This is no simple fowl. Look more closely at the eyes. It...may have been a harpy?
no subject
And what was it doing out here?
no subject
[Simple as that.]
Yet, this was a person. Apologies, but I...do not think I can willingly make good on the promise to cook this thing.
[That seems a touch too cannibalistic.]
no subject
it wasn’t so different here. ]
We will not. [ she was not so heartless. if it had been a simple fowl beast, then yes. it was not one of her people, so a burial was out of her question. ] . . . The carcass shall be preserved, until those responsible wish for it.
[ that’s all she could think that’s respectable enough, as she closes her canteen, plucks her arrow from its feathers and cleans the edge. ]

[Edelgard stoops beside the creature, gently covering it's eyes. It's hardly the first being she's killed, and it certainly won't be the last. But had she known, she'd likely have stayed her hand, or this woman's bow.]
I wonder if it has family at all. It does not look young.
no subject
[ she still would have let her bow hit him. she is not sorry— but such was her culture. ]
I too, have a family who is now empty of winter stock. I had not warned it once.
no subject
[Edelgard does not feel exactly...bad...but she would have tried hard to frighten the Harpy instead.]
That troubles me. One would think that with winter approaching, it would have been more sensible.
no subject
[ perhaps it was close to losing it, or losing it already, who knew. ]
Had it not been for you, I would’ve fed it to my hounds. [ the petalwolves, she keeps, young and eager but just a little too much of children for lagertha to release and use to her benefit. the meat would be their treat. she does not say it scornfully, though. it’s mostly for the goose harpy itself— edelgard saved it, and lagertha, from punishments far worse than they could be. ] Would you know, how these people honor their dead?
no subject
[No, she does not really think ill of Lagertha for that. Animals are animals, and they need to eat. goose meat all well and good, though best not let the animals get a taste for the flesh of near-humans.]
And no. I do not. I believe perhaps through cremation, though. There is not much space inside the walls.
