[ ice cream aside and hanging around more at house gem, it’s hard not to notice a fellow dragon’s hoarding fixation on potted plants. eren had intended to return to the cottage he used to stay in with his bonded, take the blades and pointed ended tools back with him including a move of his own hoard elsewhere. his dens were too lonely here, too empty— he may have to make a few extra trips back and forth to relocate his knives, and on the second one over . . . he decides to call peridot.

from the front yard of the cottage, eren’s tongue, forked and familiar with the house already picks up on the emptiness and the presence of green. freshness. the taste of dirt and the aroma of too many flowers to count whiff through the windows left open. opening the door, it reveals: a living space loaded with roses, an array of plantlife at every corner, colors, and only a grand escalation of it all toward the second floor up.

eren can still taste the smell of mikleo, faint and waning that compels him to nearly lick the closest wall. he sighs through his nostrils, then bends down to begin pulling at the floorboards. little mikleo knew that eren was a menace that hid his knives everywhere. ]

[ What Peridot apparently thinks, she cannot manage to verbalize right away. She's too awestruck, or possibly in sensory overload, to process all this.

She shakes her head finally before replying, sniffling and wiping away a single tear with one claw. ]

It's... Beautiful.

[ She sets off around the house, flicking her tongue rapidly and investigating all the plants eagerly. ]

How am I going to get them all back to the house!? There's so many!

[ So many plants to protect! ]

[ with a crack from the floor board eren pulls, he reveals his own stash of beauty. wedged between pockets of dirt are glass shards, farming tools, razors and the like. and that's just one floor board. ]

We can make the trips. [ eren says this as he pulls out his items and begins rolling them onto a thick leather cloth he sprawls close to his knees. holding up a stained shard of glass, he gestures. ] I have a lot more to come back for, anyway. You can take what you can fit in the nets.

[ nets that, fear not, he has brought with him for such an occasion. he's thinking they could even fly back, but— gotta see how much they have, first. ]

[ Peridot glances over at the nets, nods thoughtfully... And then steps a little closer to peer at what Eren is doing, cocking her head curiously. She can start gathering more stuff in a minute. This is intriguing. ]

So... This is what you like to collect? Weapons?

[usurpers]

[ the moons are far away from them, he doesn't mind the proximity today. eren himself has realized the pattern of his hoarding quiet a while ago, and weaponry would only be a consequence. paper slips worthy of paper cuts are safely packaged into a binder-like cover beneath most knife handles, where he carefully lifts and blows the dirt off the cover. ]

Things that have an edge. [ and if paper wasn't enough!!! yeah like check out this garden weeder what the fuck ] The sharper the better.

[ She's not sure why that's somehow more unsettling than just collecting weapons would be? But it is. She'll put her best effort into not being too judgy though. ]

Is that... Something you've always had an interest in? I used to cultivate plants back home, so I assume that's where my particular instincts developed from.

[ you’re a good bean, peridot. ]

I wouldn’t call it an interest. [ an interest in sharp things . . . even eren would admit to it being weird. what a fixation to have before becoming a hoarding dragon. ] It was more . . . A necessity.

[ The crease between Peridot's knitted brows deepens. She stares for another moment, and then gets back to busying herself with the plants. ]

Wow. That's not at all a troubling or deeply ominous thing to day.

[ She's kind of ribbing him but also like. What the fuck, Eren. ]

[ what if he was a cook though????? ]

[ If it was just because he was a cook then wouldn't he be hoarding kitchenware of all varieties!??!?

Peridot shrugs. ]

Perhaps I am completely off-base with my assumptions. But generally, an existence that necessitates carrying around sharp objects meant for cutting and slashing things indicates a capacity and or possible intent or readiness to do violence.

[ harm to himself!!! in this case, but, the end result would be such to others, yes. ]

You’re not wrong. [ that’s one floorboard hideout cleaned out, and a shitload of things to wrap around in leather cloths. dragging the wood back into place, eren drops it into the ready hole it had once created, topping of with the surface of flooring. ] Doesn’t look like you see it often.

[ She tilts her head slightly, glancing back at him. ]

See what? People harming one another? [ A shrug, and resumes puttering around the room and picking out the best plants. ] I've seen it before, but it's different when gems do it to one another. It's a lot less messy.
