ODA'S OPEN SEPTERIL SHENANIGANS AND CATCH-ALL
Who: Oda Sakunosuke (
notawriter) and YOU!
When: Mostly early Septeril/pre-Dorchacht espionage stuff.
Where: Mostly various places in Aefenglom city proper, visiting the Coven dorms, working odd jobs, etc.
What: Open prompts for September shenanigans and more, a catch-all log.
Warnings: Currently none, will update as necessary.
Format: Prose or brackets are GO, whichever you're comfortable with! I'll follow suit.
Handwave-y Helpers Here are some ideas for handwaving:
If you were around the Lunasa festival at the beginning of Aguril, you may have seen Oda dragged off to model such avant garde pieces as this lawn chair. Maybe you made some comment within earshot—even if it wasn't a nice one, Oda's easy-going enough that he wasn't offended. He wouldn't mind making casual conversation, but things could become serious if you brought up feelings about arriving in Aefenglom.
If you were at the training camp, you may have seen or met Oda training up his fawn abilities or being partnered up via enchanted bracelets. Oddly, he took these match-ups rather well, his only complaint more on the behalf of others than himself: no one should find themselves suddenly chained to another without permission in advance. Most would find him a passive partner who sounded calm and rational while his unwilling partners protested to the trainers. He's not a leader type, but those who warmed up to him would find him a reliable match, cooperative, capable of adapting to a variety of situations, and always putting his partner's safety before his own.
If you were in the collective dream of Dorchacht, you may have seen Oda on the downlow wandering the back streets before eventually going to the Pavilion where witches sell monsters. He later was captured when trying to free his vampire friend, Dazai. After struggling for some time, he was subject to punishment. Seeming properly subdued, he sat chained to a post with his gaze downward. But there was a darkness in his expression—not so dark as his anger but enough that he'll make someone (or several someones) pay for what they've done. If you had successfully rescued him, he'll certainly be indebted to you. (Caveat: he will not kill for anyone's cause.)
I. ODD JOBS
Oda often picks up odd jobs, from painting fences/doors/sheds, to city-wide fetch quests (please help me find my golden hair comb) and bizarre errands (help me cross the street carrying ten bags of groceries) or arbitrations (my significant other is cheating on me with my best friend!). He's not really good at that last one but will still give it a shot since he's done something like it as the lowest ranking member of the Port Mafia.
So if you see him at work painting something or cleaning up afterward or perhaps peering down at the street cracks in search of a hair comb, or feel like gawking at him as he balances multiple bags of groceries, or see him regrouping after a negotiation gone wrong, feel free to bother him as you see fit.
II. VISITATION
Oda visits the Coven dormatories sometimes, usually to check up on Emil and make sure he's properly taken care of. Like the orphans, Oda may not be able to live with Emil, but he can offer the boy help and support.
To Emil: "Ah, Emil—it's Oda. How are things going today? Anything you need to head out for?"
Anyone Oda may recognize: Oda may casually greet you and ask what you're up to.
III. HEADING HOME
Oda currently lives only with Dazai in ordinary housing in the Haven. After his long days at work, he may visit Emil before going home. Along the way, he might stop somewhere to practice some fawn magic or sit down and wait out a headache from his growing horns. If you approach from his blind spot too quietly, you might startle him a little. But as long as you aren't dangerous, he won't react badly.
"Were you looking for someone?"
If you hang around him long enough that he wants to be on his way, he may invite you to come with—he still has to buy himself some orange juice. Just in case.
IV. WILDCARD

Still, there's no point continuing that train of conversation with the other man since he likely couldn't care less about Oda's transformation, so instead he grows silent for a while.]
Some time ago, I asked Dazai if you could stay with us... but he said no. So I'll take responsibility whenever it is that you decide to move in.
[Oda says it as if it's the most natural thing in the world, but it's probably because he personally has nothing against the other man, regardless of whatever his feelings are toward Oda. Beside that, Oda doesn't really care whether this news annoys or angers Akutagawa even more—more than anything, he just wants the other man to know.]
no subject
...You did that for me?
[ someone.....doing something nice for akutagawa... this almost never happens, he has no idea how to react to this. it's kind of weird??? ]
Why? I have been nothing but uncouth and hostile towards you. I could kill you in your sleep for all you know.
no subject
Because you were Dazai's subordinate. Four years ago, when I first met you and when I last saw you. Back then, Dazai had high hopes for you. I may not know what's happened since then, but I believe he still does.
[After he blinks, Oda looks only slightly more interested as he studies Akutagawa's expression.]
I don't know if you've heard, but my methods are quite different from Dazai's. He won't allow you to live here, but what's he going to do if I've already accepted you?
no subject
damn.
it doesn't matter though, because everything oda is saying... it's... nice. oda is being really, really nice to him. oda accepts him, even. akutagawa has no idea how to respond to this, at all. no one of significance is ever nice to him, not in this way anyway; even higuchi's kindness is off-putting at times because of how overbearing it is.
akutagawa is left with little to do but stare as his mind short-circuits temporarily. thankfully the flame on the stove is low, so he can be confused and awkward for as long as he'd like without setting himself on fire. ]
...

Instead, Oda is met with Akutagawa's seemingly shocked stare, as if Oda had suddenly sprouted six new heads.]
... What's the matter? [A beat.] I know the heat's on low, but you might want to watch what you're doing.
[It'd be a shame if the other man's efforts went to waste.]
no subject
instead, he's stuck with this, and after a bit of bewildered blinking, he quickly looks back down at the blood thickening in the heat. after a few quiet moments, akutagawa's ears betray the inherent goodness that's beginning to sweep over him; they twitch a couple of times, hi tail swishing wide beneath his coat. oda can probably see it plainly. ]
...In the refrigerator. There is a vanilla pudding layered with sweetened ladyfingers. I needed to test the regular recipe before I could formulate a plan to properly deconstruct this one.
[ he is not!! looking at oda!! at all!! ]
I don't like sweets.
[ THAT'S A GIGANTIC LIE, HE LOVES SWEETS. sometimes he even takes three sugars in his coffee! ]
Letting it go to waste would be unacceptable, so you should eat it.
no subject
That's adorable.]
Are you really sure you want me to have it? A treat for you putting so much effort into this task—I don't think it'd be a waste if you ate it.
[He wouldn't hold it against Akutagawa if he does want the pudding for himself.
While Oda expects Dazai to be harsh and have impeccably high standards given his position, he can't and doesn't expect Dazai to be unappreciative of Akutagawa's efforts. But even if he is, at least Oda himself recognizes it and be supportive in Dazai's stead.]
But I'd be more than grateful if you really want me to have it.
no subject
[ he keeps his tone cool and aloof, as per his usual outward personality. truthfully, while the pudding would certainly be a nice treat, it's the only way he can think to express his gratitude at the moment. akutagawa wagers if he were to thank the man any later than at this moment, his intention would be clear, and far be it from akutagawa to be direct in his feelings towards oda.
(to be fair, it is quite complicated.) ]
If you don't trust me quite yet, then fine, don't take it. It makes no difference to me. There's no need to turn this into an issue.
[ PLEASE TAKE THE PUDDING ODA-SAN,,,, is what the slowing swishes of his tail seems to scream out. ]
no subject
—There's no issue. Just wanted to be sure first. [Said while he pushes his chair back as he rises from the table. He moves to the refrigerator and opens it before glancing at its contents and finding the pudding with relative ease.]
... This looks really nice. Smooth and elegant as newly changed bedsheets waiting to be slept in.
[Anyway, he slowly takes it out of the fridge.]
