[It starts with a video on the 14th. Connor is sitting and petting a very large dragonfly by his head, because that isn't weird at all.]

Hello everyone. I just wanted to send a message out to let everyone know that it's my first birthday tomorrow, and I'm inviting people over to join me for the evening at my home. If we've met, you can assume you're invited. If we haven't met, well... I'd like to meet you, so you're invited too. There will be food, and the backyard has a giant pool. I hope to see you there.

[And on the actual night of his birthday, of course Connor is confined to his pool because of the full moons. Which is fine, he supposes, as long as people want to swim with him. As promised there is plenty of food, laid out on a table near the back of the cottage, and he's even set out a couple of small tables and seats. The backyard is large and lit up by floating lights, but most of it is taken up by a huge pool.

Connor himself is swimming around, though if he spots someone he'll come over to greet them. He'll look very different to his usual self, his teeth long and sharp and his eyes a milky blue instead of the usual warm brown; he's mostly blind above the water tonight. His fingers are unnaturally long and tipped with claws, and the little balls at the end of his whiskers and ear fins glow a soft blue. His entire body is covered in scales now. He still sounds the same though, and if approached he seems pleased that someone actually turned up.]

[He waves his hand in the air, even if Connor can't quite see it.]

Eeeehh, that's just technicalities , Connor.

[Also someone's a lot more chirpy than usual.]

N'away I might have figured out something that might help with the eyes. Well hopefully. Magic tends to shit things up and all that.

[Connor sounds immediately hopeful, rather than sceptical. His long fingers touch the edge of the pool, claws clicking against the stone as he gets closer. His tail swishes expectantly, eyes trained on the dim figure before him.]

What is it?

Well if you were expecting anything fancy, it's just a pair of goggles.

[Wow. But hold your applause.]

But I've enchanted them to retain water even if you're out of the water. Well for a while anyway. I ain't still great with this shit.

[He gives the pair to him. It looks like, well what this world's' technology would consider a pair of swimming goggles, really.]

I figure it might be worth a try? If you can see better in water, why not have...water glasses.

[He's so proud of that pun.]

[Connor takes the goggles, and gives Hank a Look at his pun, but quickly dives underwater and puts the goggles on. When he comes back up, he... well, he looks ridiculous. But he doesn't care, because he can see.]

They work!

[He gives Hank a pleased smile, and he's immediately forgiven for his bad pun.]

And you look goddamn ridiculous.

[But he's laughing in a joyful tone, a mixture from being pleased with his work and knowing that Connor can look around properly now.]

Don't get too excited, they don't last too long if you don't have enough water around. But hey, it kinda feels great bein' able to beat the change at its own game.

[He can't see himself, but he knows it.]

I can't leave the water during the full moons anyway, so I'll always have enough of it around.

[But he'll be able to see above water if he wants to, and that's a plus.]

I appreciate this, Hank.

Yeah. Figured they'd be useful enough for what you need 'em for.

[He could feel Connor's appreciation but Hank was Hank and tried to download it with a small wave of his hand again.]

Well you know...any idiot could have figured it out eventually.

[Hank. If Connor wasn't bound to the water he would get up out of it and push you in for being so hard on yourself.]

Well, yes. Given an infinite amount of time and resources, I'm sure someone could have figured out the same thing.

[He pulls himself up into a sitting position on the side of the pool, the tip of his long tail drifting lazily in the water.]

But you did it for me. You spent time practising and perfecting it. Nobody else can say that.

[He gestures for Hank to sit beside him. Hank may notice the glittering of many coins littering the bottom of the pool.]

You know, if not for you, I'd be confined to the ocean every time the full moons came around. Now I have a pool of my own, and a way to see above the water temporarily.

[It might be why he's acting this way, really. The fact Connor can't chase him around. It would still take a while for Hank to be okay with accepting himself.]

Yeah, guess so...

[Look. See? Progress! He looks down at the number of coins and wonders if this place should double as a fountain sometimes so people would throw their coins in willingly so Connor could continue to increase his never-ending collection. He finally grumbles at the open invitation as he takes off his shoes and socks, before sitting down, letting the edge of his feet dangle above the water.]

[The coins are all from Justine, at least. None of them are stolen. He's gotten better at holding back now that he has two Bonds.

Connor would probably have leaned against Hank slightly, given said Bond, but... ever since Litha, they haven't spoken about what happened between them. Hank certainly doesn't seem to want to, and Connor doesn't want to force his presence on him if he's not wanted in that way. So he just lets his tail make small waves in the water, looking down at all those coins.]

You should swim with me some time. It can get... lonely, watching everyone from the pool.

[It was probably why Hank hadn't made a comment about the coins even if he wondered if this would cause the water to pollute itself. At least he knew Connor would let him know if he wasn't comfortable.

Hank...didn't really understand himself. Sometimes it's just the fear of stepping on Connor's metaphorical toes (at least right now) or at least, that's the excuse he gives himself.]

Sure. [What the hell at this point. Besides, it's Connor's 'birthday' technically.] You realize Sumo's probably gonna want to join in too...it's gonna smell wet dog for the rest of the week.

I can live with wet dog. We've dealt with worse.

[Like decaying bodies and pigeon hell. Connor slips back into the water, looking to Hank expectantly.]
