Event Log: May, Moving Day

I. GATHERING The morning of the 15th is heralded by the sing-song voice of The Coven's coimeadai sidhe Nerissa Bell ringing through the hallways, seemingly unimpeded by the heavy doors or any silencing spells that have been placed in rooms. She asks that all those who arrived at the beginning of the month - not the new inductees, the ones from The Looking-Glass House - gather in The Coven's main room; she has some exciting and important news to deliver. Once everyone is gathered, Nessie (very much a morning person, and sorry to the anyone who isn't) grins and lays a hand on her chest. "Thanks to a good bit of your lot, we've managed to get things ready in record time - aye, I should start out with what I'm talking about, aren't I? Well, well - with the Parliament's permission, thank goodness for my Mhairi's sharp wit, we've managed to get a space for all you to live in outside of The Coven. You can still come and attend classes or talk to all of us, 'course, but everyone's been getting a bit itchy with such suddenly crowded quarters, aye?" Aye aye, calls some poor, tired student from the second floor as they pass through, and Nessie pauses with a slow blink before she laughs, shaking her head. "Anyway, gather your things if you have any and follow me. Or us," she corrects herself, as a few other Witches seem to materialize from nowhere. "Can't be out without a couple of friends, I suppose." As soon as everyone's ready, Nessie and her entourage lead them out of the courtyard, aglow with fresh flowers and the soft light of dawn peeking between the clouds. The spot they've managed to get isn't too far from The Coven proper, and it doesn't look much different than the rest of the Aristocratic District that it resides in - the only thing that sets it apart is the sign Nessie takes a moment to conjure up and hang with balls of light between two streetlamps. The Haven. "Named so as a respite for all you refugees," she explains as she turns around; she sets her hands on her hips, gazing out at the crowd, and gives them a small smile. "I can't stay and chat right now - Mhairi's still with Parliament even with the hours, and I've got things to get in order at the Coven still - but if you have need of either of us, we'll be in contact. We've a little mailbox set up in front of the Coven just for you lot, so just drop us a letter or some such with one of our names or both, and we'll be right quick about answering, we will. Within reason," Nessie adds, laughing a little, "'course, within reason. Anyway, find some familiar faces and have a lovely time, will you?" With that, and a few more little goodbyes, Miss Nerissa Bell takes her leave; half of her Witches disappear with her, but the other half remain to help keep an eye on things as the day progresses and to help with directing people to either houses or the barracks set against the Wall. While there will be no NPC threads this time - sorry! - we have opened up an NPC Inbox! You can find it here. While they definitely prefer letters, they do both have watches now like cool moms and can be contacted through that as well, provided they aren't busy at the time.

II. THE HAVEN Formerly part of the Aristocratic District, The Haven is just as well-kept and brightly-lit as the district it hails from. The houses err on the tall and ornamental-side, large enough to fit several families (or, according to the upper class, their one family, several dozen servants, and guests), especially closest to the Aristocratic District. They become a little more modest and smaller as one gets away from the realm of high society and nearer to the Residential District proper. Newcomers are shuffled here and invited to find somewhere to live - the Coven is currently handling expenses for the houses themselves in an program implemented by the Parliament, though if your character wishes to have anything extra - like maids, chefs, and so on - they'll have to pay for them themselves with their own earned money. Much of the landscape and fixtures are the same as in the Aristocratic Districts, though it lacks formal emergency services due to its roots as part of a district that already did. Much of the housing already has furnishing due to the speed at which homeowners were relocated; they were given enough time to collect their valuables, but standard furniture such as kitchenware, couches, beds, etc. were left behind for those moving in. Other houses appear the same, but the dust on the floors suggest these houses were left before the new arrivals even showed up - a reminder that the Cwyld can strike just about anyone, regardless of standing. Some may be familiar with this portion of Aefenglom already, as they took on the task of helping to clean the area up. Surprise, one could say; they were preparing their own future homes, for their stay in the city. However, another portion of this district has been opened up to the new arrivals: the barracks, the row of buildings pressed against the very edge of the Bright Wall. As the city's military force no longer has the same presence it previously did, the barracks have gone into disuse, and a cleanup effort has been in place since before the new arrivals came through the Looking-Glass House. For those who desire something a little less opulent, the barracks might just be the answer. The barracks can also be used for business, for a welcome center, a communal space, for anything that the residents of the Haven see fit to use it for - so long as the legality isn't questionable, on the surface. Not everyone is so happy, however. A very vocal group of younger rich people are set on harassing and bullying those moving into The Haven, and they aren't afraid to use a little magic to do it. Levitation, fake fire, real fire, sudden weather shifts, and threats to do more if they don't find somewhere else to live are all present - these aristocrats don't care for the new people butting into their lives, especially anyone who looks distinctly non-human or already have signs of their Monster traits coming in. There are others, though, who are quite pleased to have new neighbors - many of them weren't so happy with their other ones - and have set up little stalls to peruse and tables to sit at to help foster them in. These have everything from food to flowers, to expensive-looking trinkets and jewelry on them - the people running them are quite amiable, especially closer to the Residential District proper, and don't mind handing these out for free... or mostly free. The only thing they'll ask of any characters wishing to procure something from their gifts is to perform a trick - sort of like a one-man talent show. They aren't picky, and as long as a character does their best, they'll give them a gift. (Or someone with quick fingers could just swipe them off, given how unprotected they are, but that person will find their hands turning red and leaving similarly-colored marks on everything they touch, as if dipped in paint.)

III. AND THEN THEY WERE ROOMMATES To help with filling up the larger houses - and even some of the smaller ones, and the shared rooms in the barracks - the Witches left over from Nessie's group have come together to set up a little roommate finding service that will run for the week. For those who aren't entirely sure who they want to shack up with, they have a small survey for them to fill out and post on the board they've magicked up in the center of The Haven. The board also very helpfully reads aloud each form for everyone to hear in a cheerful, monotone voice. It isn't able to be shut up, nor is it easy to ignore, being imbued with a similar kind of amplification magic that Miss Nessie used earlier in the morning for her own voice. It seems these Witches - or at least one of them - has a prankster nature... and unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. a. A LITTLE MISCHIEF While by and large the board will work as it should - a listing is filled out, put up, and read aloud for all to hear - for characters who aren't interested in doing some writing, or who can't for one reason or another, the board will take it upon itself to make one for them. It isn't going to be the most accurate at all, being either completely fictitious or based on a first impression from the board itself. This can range from "They have blue eyes, so you know they're a kind person!" to "How stand-offish, they must be a crook! A thief! A villain!" and anything in-between, including but not limited to: outrageous feats they may or may not have accomplished, poor hygiene habits, false accounts of incredibly embarrassing moments, and so on. b. A LITTLE HANDS-ON Not entirely content with just allowing people to write their preferences and call it a day, a few of the younger Witches have begun magicking small chocolates, hard candies, and bubble gum, and handing them out to new arrivals as a welcome treat. These aren't any ordinary treats though - they have one of three of effects: • Sticky fingers, meaning characters will stick to anyone or anything they touch. • Truthfulness, meaning characters will say whatever they're really thinking or feeling at the moment. • Desire for company, meaning characters will gravitate immediately to the first person they see, regardless of their feelings on them otherwise. Thankfully, none of these last long - only about ten minutes, and they can't be combined with each other; eating one candy with one effect will simply replace any other effects... Which might be for the better. The subthread for this can be found HERE, while any ones that are made up by the board itself can be simply written into your top levels or replies to other people. Hey Fae! There aren't very many, but some of the larger houses do have small stables that previously housed animals for personal or family carriages. This typically meant one to two horses (or other creatures). These also have the space for the carriages and accessories, which can be turned into more stalls for animals, should the new residents choose.

The Haven: Part A

[Connor is fairly lucky in that his physical changes so far amount to gills on his torso and itchy skin on his hands and feet. It means nobody can really see the change in him, so he isn't being targeted quite as much as he would be if it were more obvious. Still, he's obviously moving into the neighbourhood, so he's somehow earned the ire of the rich young locals.

So this is Connor, looking very happy with the fact that there is a heavy rain cloud following him as he walks along. That probably wasn't the reaction they expected or wanted, but being a Merrow he's learned to love the water. It's really quite convenient actually, having the rain follow him around like this. Maybe a little uncomfortable for anyone he happens to stand beside, though.]

The Haven: Part B

[Connor has no need for food or even trinkets really, but the way a certain ring glistens in the light has Connor fawning over it. He doesn't know why, but he needs it. So he approaches the stall, and decides to entertain with a few coin tricks.

He flicks the coin between both hands, walks it over his knuckles, and spins it on his index finger before letting it hop to the finger beside it. He does such a good job that he gets the ring, a huge jewel-encrusted thing (the jewels are probably not expensive but who cares?), and he slips it onto his finger with a flourish. It does not suit him. He doesn't care. Feel free to ask him why he chose a ring over something actually useful on that stall, though.]

And Then They Were Roommates: A Little Hands On

[Connor doesn't eat, but he accepts a piece of bubblegum from a kindly-looking Witch anyway. You don't actually swallow it, right? It should be fine, aside from the immediate burst of half-information, half-garbage he gets as his tongue tries desperately to analyse it. Connor is in the midst of blowing bubbles when he's approached, and is unaware of the effects the candy has had on him.

He might blurt out a truth, accidentally get stuck as your character passes them, or simply follow them like a lost puppy looking for attention. And he will look vaguely confused the entire while.]

She could use some patient people in her life, or at least someone who can de-escalate situations like a normal person. Kindness also confuses the Kaede and leaves her open to further dialogue options. She's also drawn to people doing artsy things because it reminds her of her sad dead girlfriend.

However, Kaede's not used to living with a bunch of strangers and may wander off sometimes, or only do chores when no one is watching. She's fairly low-maintenance and self-sufficient, though. If, uh, morally questionable at times. (Don't invite her to movie night where the movie has a murderer in it, she'll spoil the ending.) She's not a dick to animals, though! Especially dogs. Dogs are good. Pet owning households welcome, you just might end up with an extra pink-haired cat.
Extra notes: Speaking of cats, Kaede can show up like a stray on someone's couch for ease of getting the characters to interact, if you prefer!

She's just starting to get some of her chimera changes now (yellow-green eyeshine, sharp teeth, claws, horns lengthening and getting their first set of points like a pronghorn). They'll get more dramatic as time goes on (more antler points, feathers, stretchy arms and wings to go with them, a tail, tiger stripes, etc). Ask her for a feather later, she'll actually say yes to people she likes.

Because of her canon point she does feel a bit wary about getting close to people again but it's not like she can help it haha. Neighbors would be cool too!
Extra notes: She'll start off keeping to herself but chances are she'll try to get to know her roommates or try to take care of them (feeding them, helping them clean etc.) and eventually maybe even scold them if that's needed. She is mostly quiet but her roommates might hear her humming every now and then especially if she thinks she's alone.

Only Warning is that she does have a history of abuse and the symptoms of the drugs she was given may appear more apparent to her roommates eventually (which can be as simple as not sleeping much to more extreme like hallucinations). If you'd like to be roommates but opt out of that, I'm a-ok with that o7

Preferred housemates or plans: I want to lean towards girls for this one first for the sake of annoying and making his senpai jealous, and because Koga, albeit having an aggressive personality at first sight, can be really soft - especially so, and more easily, with girls. Bonus point if you like dogs, since Koga has a gorgeous corgi named Leon.

Now the thing is: whoever ends up living with him, I am so sorry. Koga's slow descend into vampirism is going to be really hard on him, because he knows what vampires are like, and hates them. He's going to hate that he's slowly becoming one, so he might lash out at times - and well, since he's refusing to feed, he'll be more likely to go feral... I think a housemate CR is probably going to be one of his closest CR, so if you're willing to like, put up with my bullshit, and thread lots with me... I'll hold your hand through this rollercoaster.
Extra notes: Koga thinks he's about to live alone with his dog again, but I want him to have some company, so this would probably end up as Koga and your character wind up being assigned the same apartment or something of the kind. He'll complain at first but eventually put up with it. He's a good boy, I swear! Also I'm probably looking for a single housemate since Koga will want to stay at the small apartment, sorry!!

This question is a little open-ended — and a little nitpicky, I apologize! — but could I get a more detailed overview of the in-world politics surrounding the housing situation?

I've been chasing tidbits of it here and there since the game opened, but couldn't get a full picture; maybe I just missed a page somewhere! So, newcomers arrived, and... the existing homeowners in The Haven... were just... asked to leave? By the Coven? Wouldn't blowback, protests, and discontent have been anticipated by Parliament? I think there is a line in the Setting page that suggests that there was an outbreak of the Cwyld as well ("a reminder that the Cwyld can strike just about anyone, regardless of standing") but then are our characters moving into a sick zone? Where were the former Haven residents relocated to?

I might have extra questions — I just sort of wanted to know the local government thought process here. Thank you!

[ So, harassment, huh? Honestly, even with the magical additions it's not like these guys can throw at Izuku anything he can't handle in that category...he doesn't know them, the attacks aren't personal or targetted, and it's all more a mild annoyance than anything else.

That doesn't make having a miniature rainstorm above his head any easier to deal with, though. Like, yes - he can handle it! But also...consider. He would like to be dry at some point again? And there's a very specific problem with this spell - ]

W-wait! [ He's quick to stop the first person he sees, although he's careful not to touch them (he's soaked through to the bone), shivering instead and trying not to rain on them. ] Sorry, but - do you mind going into the library for me? I need some help finding a counterspell, but I don't want to, er...well. Get any books wet...?

B. TALENT SHOW
[ The more welcoming locals are a blessing. Izuku isn't too drawn to most of the things they have - well, he does try a few tricks for food and flowers - but he sort of stops to look at a broach that's understated and sort of...pretty, he thinks?

He thinks his mom would like it, but he's running short on tricks, and he looks around, biting his lip.

His eyes light up when he spots someone he recognizes as another "newcomer". ]

Hey! Do you want to try to do a trick together? [ It's not like he can give his mom that broach right now, but...

A. STICKY FINGERS
[ Anyone or anything, huh? Izuku isn't as much of a klutz as he was before he got his quirk, but he's...still not the best at coordination when he gets flustered. So you can find him sort of standing next to a wall with his hand on it, very deliberately trying to pull it away and failing to look at all smooth or natural because, well, no, he's not trying to hide it?

Or you can find him accidentally brushing your hand as he walks by after having accepted some bubblegum, only to sort of yank your hand with him as he goes when they don't part.

He looks flummoxed for exactly two seconds before he looks horrified. ]

B. TRUTHTELLER
[ If you want Izuku to be REALLY HONEST with you, by all means come over...he's just finishing up a chocolate, smiling brilliantly at the witch who gave him it. ]

[ And, well, he likes company! A lot! He's theoretically extroverted in that he enjoys people and their company, for all he's still residually shy. So Izuku thinks nothing of hurrying over when he spots someone, whether or not he recognizes them. ]

III. FLOWER LANGUAGE

[ Hey, are you taking that quest-class Gardening With Class? If so, you might find one green-haired nerd murmuring frantically to himself as he takes notes, the bouquet he's supposed to be arranging half-abandoned in front of him as he goes through the meanings. ]

- It's a little odd, isn't it? I mean, not odd...but flower language varies from culture to culture. Even given that, and this being another world entirely, I think there's at least a little bit of overlap...

Haven - A - House Get

[So Prompto doesn't feel comfortable outright asking strangers if they want to room together in this strange world, so he takes a different approach (one he likes to thing would make Ignis and Gladio proud of him). He finds the first house that isn't too absurdly lavish with space in the back for Primula and basically goes "mine".

And by "basically goes 'mine'", we mean "ties Primula to a tree in the front while he goes to the Find A Housemate board". He posts an ad and just sort of. Waits a bit to see if anyone's interested before heading back to his new place.]

Maybe I should've found a roomie first...

Haven - B - Trouble

[Of course, leaving your giant yellow bird tied to a tree outside while you went to go take care of something means that when you come back, some asshole kids are harassing your bird. Primula is swatting and kicking out at them, but it takes Prompto running over with a hand on the grip of his gun to get them to stop.]

[The asshole kids don't care, especially when they realize Prompto's looking a little furry. They start threatening him, tossing fire at his feet so he has to dodge and threatening to do worse.

Haven - C - Shopping

[Eventually Prompto will take Prim and just go check out the little stalls and stuff because that sounds way less stressful. He can be found perusing, wandering, and (if he finds something he's interested in) occasionally pulling his gun out to do the little spinning trick he can do.
