Where: The Little Melody music hall, side room.
What: Steven has organized a speed dating event for witches and monsters to meet each other. This log is closed to helpers and people who have signed up on the OOC event post.
Warnings: Good clean fun. Hopefully.


Finally, the day arrives. Steven will have contacted everyone coming by watch in advance, giving them the venue information and confirming their arrival. It turns out that he has arranged for a side room in the Little Melody music hall to be used for this event - he's made a positive enough impression with some of them that he managed to get it without charge, in exchange for doing chores around the hall. It's a somewhat ornate music room with a piano, chairs along the walls, 10 tables set up for dates, and one larger table set up with a potluck 'buffet' or sorts.

The offerings definitely include at least one quiche and one pie, provided by Papyrus, complete with a little note card thanking him and a description of what each food is. Papyrus's pies are actually pretty okay, even if the crust is a little crispy in places. Alongside that is water, a couple types of juice, and four trays of sandwiches: ham with cheese, chicken salad, egg salad, and veggie. Beyond that, Steven will display anything people bring with them, and write up little note cards to go along with the others.

Each table is set up with a lit candle and a sheet with a series of 'Icebreaking Questions', which read as follows:

1) What would you take with you to a desert island?
2) If you had to be someone else for a day, who would you be and why?
3) If you could invite anyone, dead or alive, to dinner, who would it be?
4) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
5) What would be your ideal holiday destination?
6) What's the most reckless thing you've ever done?
7) What makes you laugh?
8) Do you have a party trick?
9) If you could be granted three wishes, what would they be?
10) What time in history would you have liked to be born in and why?
11) What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
12) What would be the title of your biography?
13) What is your favourite restaurant meal?
14) If you were given 1,000,000 cunes what would you spend it on?

Of course, using these questions is optional. Each date will last FIVE MINUTES, during which Steven and Elliot will be playing music to accompany on piano and violin. Towards the end of the five minute period, they will ramp up the tempo a bit to indicate that you are almost done, and then stop to tell people to change tables. During the whole proceeding, Steven will be projecting a sort of ambient illusion over the room, making the roof look like twinkling stars and leaving impossible to touch sparkles in the air.

OOCLY, I have made top levels below for every participating character, indicating who they have been randomly selected to tag. ICly, all witches will presumably have the chance to talk to all monsters, but since it isn't realistic to expect everyone to do 10 threads, we are starting with two tag outs. Beyond that, you can tag out to any additional people that you like. Find you character's name down below, see who you are assigned to tag (and who you have been tagged by!) and start a thread as soon as you are able. I understand that life happens and not all of these threads will happen, but it would be really cool if they could! I recommend keeping tags short and light to ease the load - and also because that seems suited to Speed Dating, anyway.

After the dating session is over, you can also make general mingle threads of people hanging out afterwards. The dating will only take about an hour, and Steven has the venue booked until 11PM.

NOTE: When you have an idea how your threads are going, please fill out the Google Form to submit your character's grades for each date. This is mostly just so you can have the fun of seeing who would formally approve of and reject your character.

[ Allura watches closely to try and discern if there's a specific etiquette involved. She will say that the drink is, at least, aesthetically pleasing especially with it's crystal clear glass. She's not exactly sure what "barely" is either, but she's fairly certain this is a type of liquor, which is fine with her.

If she can drink Nunvil then she can take anything this world dishes out. Right? (Or so she believes.)

She accepts the drink from Scathach with a nod and a polite smile. ]

We can take all the luck we can get in this place, can't we?

[ Following the other woman's lead, Allura sips carefully, slowly. Her brows raise in surprise. ]

...This actually tastes rather similar to a drink I'm familiar with. "Barrel-aged", you said?

[scatmaam]

Aye, I did. Scotch must be aged at least three years in proper wooden barrels or else it's not scotch. We get very particular about these things.

[ Which was why she specifically drank scotch, and not other whiskeys. ]

[ Allura nods as she takes another sip before setting the glass down. ]

It's actually got a close flavor to something we would drink on my home world. Although the last "batch" I had was aged 10,000 years, so I had a rather...unique kick.

[ She clasps her hands together. ]

Where is it that you're from, if I may ask?

[scatmaam]

[ It would seem like such a simple question to anyone else, but Scathach had to spend a moment to think about how honestly she should respond. Things were different for those who called themselves 'heroic spirits', after all, and old habits died hard. ]

A place called Scotland, these days... [ Close enough. ]

And I'd very much like to try such an ancient spirit, myself.

"Scotland"?

[ Allura repeats, trying to get the pronunciation right. ]

I haven't heard of that world, I'm afraid. Has it been difficult to adjust to this one?

[ She does know that she isn't the only one who has found Aefenglom to be something of a culture shock. And technology shock. And...well, a lot of things. ]

I can say with certainty that we aren't usually so privileged to try something aged so long. My friend was very excited to try it once he discovered it, to say the least.

[scatmaam]

I wouldn't call it difficult, really. More I'm simply unfond of the current fashions in this world. I prefer garments that don't restrict. A warrior has no need of shaping wear. [ Scathach grumbled, still remembering her difficulty finding proper clothes since apparently walking around in her bodysuit would have caused issues. ]

[princessences]

[ She raises her brows, then Allura nods knowingly. While she's used to grand gowns and dresses, occasion has to all for her. Even her more "casual" gown was something that was comfortable and elastic in ways that the fabrics here simply aren't. But she would never slump through the forest in it if she could avoid it. The cape alone would cause a disaster. ]

A warrior? Of what calling?

[scatmaam]

Of my own. [ Close enough to the truth. She wasn't about to speak of Chaldea to a stranger, even if she was a fair one. Heroic Spirits had to practice a certain level of discretion, regardless of the situation. ]

Lancer is not simply a name, after all.

[princessences]

[ A mercenary for hire is her first is her first hypothesis, though she knows that doesn't always have the best connotations. ]

"Lancer"?

[ Now that is an interesting title. ]

Then is that your weapon of choice?

[scatmaam]

If you'll permit me a bit of boasting, my lady, you'll find none better. Save, perhaps, for my disciple, but I fear his most proper form is not in this world.

[ Which... was a statement that would take a lot of explaining if pressed on it, so something about her tone seemed to suggest she rather Allura just... take her word for it. ]

[princessences]

[ She has to smile at that, using the opportunity to take another sip of the drink. ]

I'll have to take you at your word, but I won't pretend that I wouldn't like to see a demonstration some time.

[scatmaam]

I'd be more than happy to do so, my lady. I'd be willing to demonstrate any skill of mine that tickles your fancy.

[ A sip. A wink. She knows what she said. ]

[ Oh. Well then. Allura needs to finish off her glass with that. ]

You have many, I assume?

[scatmaam]

[ Lancer didn't rush through hers, keeping it close to her lips, gently twirling the glass as she contemplated just how to respond. She supposed it was prudent to keep things vague... but part of her wanted to see how the princess would react were she more bold, as well. ]

A great many, that I've practiced over the years. I'm sure I can find one or a few that delight you, of course...

[ There's little--or perhaps quite a bit?--left to the imagination with that. She may need another drink, it feels like it's been so long since she has a conversation like this. Even with Lotor--

--no, no she...shouldn't be thinking about him right now. "Complicated" doesn't begin to describe how she still feels about that. So she pushes those thoughts to the far corners of her mind where they belong. For now. And instead straightens in her seat. ]

I might have some interest in a cultural exchange. Of sorts.

[ Of sorts. ]

Elsewhere than here, of course. [ Lancer chuckled again, another slow sip of her drink, letting the warmth linger on her lips as she leaned over her end of the table, letting her hair (which had become thicker and thicker over time since arriving) play over her shoulders and catch the light of the candle. ]

[ Goodness. Allura swallows. ]

Of course.

[ She agrees, licking her lips and reaching for her glass again. Ah--empty, that's right. She holds out her glass. ]

May I have another? I feel that I may need it.

[scatmaam]

[ Lancer happily poured her another portion, once more adding a bit of water as well. ] By all means...

But before all of that, I'm sure you have more questions for me, hmm? Something that's piqued my lady's curiosity about this strange woman before her that refuses to give her true name?

[princessences]

[ Watering it down? Well, that might actually be warranted if Allura is planning on downing these. She knows her metabolism is different from humans, but who knows about what this is made for. ]

Quite a few.

[ Though she only downs about...half of her glass first. ]

Though it isn't entirely uncommon to adopt the name of one's profession--chosen or otherwise--I do wonder what drew you to it in the first place?

[scatmaam]

My homeland has a great tradition of spear fighting. Some of the greatest heroes and legends of our history [ herself included ] were exceptional with the tool. I have just as much pride in that as I have in my true name, so it's no trouble to go by Lancer.

[ Which... only halfway answered the question, she realized. But a quiet sip of her drink suggested she'd need more needling to get to the real issue there. ]

[princessences]

[ She nods as she listens, taking a much smaller sip this time. To at last appear proper. ]

Then it's a name you chose in honor as well. It seems well-earned.

[scatmaam]

[ Which was a good enough response for her, even if all of that wasn't necessarily true. But maybe she'd give the princess a better story someday... She had an inkling this wouldn't be their last meeting, after all. ]

I thank you, my lady. But it's not just my name that intrigues you, yes?

[princessences]

[ Well...if she's going to be honest. Allura does feel that they've already toed that line of appropriateness more than once during this conversation thus far. ]

Yes. I do think it...prudent to understand one another. There's quite a bit we can learn from each other in this place. I am trying to look at it as an opportunity for knowledge and experiences.

[scatmaam]

That's certainly more positive than some have been. Even those who have been here longer than I can't seem to find a reason to exist within this world beyond drifting through the motions.

I won't pretend that it's easy. Sometimes it's looking to the world beyond that is the true driving force. If we can carry what we learn here back to our own universes, then we should be better for it, shouldn't we?
