When: Aguril 10th, 7PM-11PM
Where: The Little Melody music hall, side room.
What: Steven has organized a speed dating event for witches and monsters to meet each other. This log is closed to helpers and people who have signed up on the OOC event post.
Warnings: Good clean fun. Hopefully.


Finally, the day arrives. Steven will have contacted everyone coming by watch in advance, giving them the venue information and confirming their arrival. It turns out that he has arranged for a side room in the Little Melody music hall to be used for this event - he's made a positive enough impression with some of them that he managed to get it without charge, in exchange for doing chores around the hall. It's a somewhat ornate music room with a piano, chairs along the walls, 10 tables set up for dates, and one larger table set up with a potluck 'buffet' or sorts.

The offerings definitely include at least one quiche and one pie, provided by Papyrus, complete with a little note card thanking him and a description of what each food is. Papyrus's pies are actually pretty okay, even if the crust is a little crispy in places. Alongside that is water, a couple types of juice, and four trays of sandwiches: ham with cheese, chicken salad, egg salad, and veggie. Beyond that, Steven will display anything people bring with them, and write up little note cards to go along with the others.

Each table is set up with a lit candle and a sheet with a series of 'Icebreaking Questions', which read as follows:

1) What would you take with you to a desert island?
2) If you had to be someone else for a day, who would you be and why?
3) If you could invite anyone, dead or alive, to dinner, who would it be?
4) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
5) What would be your ideal holiday destination?
6) What's the most reckless thing you've ever done?
7) What makes you laugh?
8) Do you have a party trick?
9) If you could be granted three wishes, what would they be?
10) What time in history would you have liked to be born in and why?
11) What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
12) What would be the title of your biography?
13) What is your favourite restaurant meal?
14) If you were given 1,000,000 cunes what would you spend it on?

Of course, using these questions is optional. Each date will last FIVE MINUTES, during which Steven and Elliot will be playing music to accompany on piano and violin. Towards the end of the five minute period, they will ramp up the tempo a bit to indicate that you are almost done, and then stop to tell people to change tables. During the whole proceeding, Steven will be projecting a sort of ambient illusion over the room, making the roof look like twinkling stars and leaving impossible to touch sparkles in the air.

OOCLY, I have made top levels below for every participating character, indicating who they have been randomly selected to tag. ICly, all witches will presumably have the chance to talk to all monsters, but since it isn't realistic to expect everyone to do 10 threads, we are starting with two tag outs. Beyond that, you can tag out to any additional people that you like. Find you character's name down below, see who you are assigned to tag (and who you have been tagged by!) and start a thread as soon as you are able. I understand that life happens and not all of these threads will happen, but it would be really cool if they could! I recommend keeping tags short and light to ease the load - and also because that seems suited to Speed Dating, anyway.

After the dating session is over, you can also make general mingle threads of people hanging out afterwards. The dating will only take about an hour, and Steven has the venue booked until 11PM.

NOTE: When you have an idea how your threads are going, please fill out the Google Form to submit your character's grades for each date. This is mostly just so you can have the fun of seeing who would formally approve of and reject your character.

Oh, all kinds! Usually I focus on magitech, robotics, programming, the arcane technologies of lost civilisations... but I'm interested in all of it. That's why I'm here! [ She spreads out two of her arms, the other two clasped together. ] I want to learn as much about Bonds as I can, and I've read plenty but first hand experience is always really valuable, especially with subjects like this.

[psychotronics]

[ Morgan rests her chin on one hand, propping her elbow up on the back of the chair. There's a bit of a wry smile on her face. ] Hah. Yeah. I definitely would have felt the same exact way about it, back in the day.

[ Miss 'I'm gonna test prototype neuromods on myself' over here. ]

Personally, I'm mostly just hoping to avoid exploding.

Oh! Yes, that's important. I am hoping not to, ah, attack people, also.

[ She pauses, twining a piece of wire round the fingers of one hand. When did she take that out of her pocket? Hard to say. ]

... Say, normally when I talk about my research people either get it, and they feel the same way, [ she indicates that with two of her other hands, ] or they don't get it at all. How come you changed your mind? [ She seems earnestly curious, but also very slightly... apprehensive? ]

[psychotronics]

[ Morgan frowns a little, pondering just how much of her own story she's willing to share at the moment. She glances away briefly. ]

Let's just say that me and self experimentation have... A kind of complicated relationship.

[tinyfood]

[ Her hesitation is lost on Entrapta, who leans forward keenly. ] Really??

[psychotronics]

[ Morgan quirks her eyebrows a little, but remains unswayed. ]

Yup.

[tinyfood]

Tell me more. [ She is not getting the hint at All.]

[psychotronics]

So you said you're into robotics? What kind of robots do you usually build?

[ DENIED. ]

[tinyfood]

[ Entrapta sits back in her chair, looking a little deflated. Generally speaking she LOVES being asked about her robots, but,, ]

Oh, uh... a bunch of kinds, I guess... I used to mostly build robots as companions and to carry out various household tasks but after I started working with the Horde's technology I've been able to expand my repertoire. Of course here I don't have the resources to construct anything more than very simple automatons, but I'm working on that.

[psychotronics]

[ Sorry Entrapta. You'll have to wait until at least the third date to get that kind of privileged info.

Morgan almost asks what the hell the "horde" is, but it's the last bit that captures her attention. She cocks her head with interest. ]

Oh yeah? How so?

[tinyfood]

Ah! I'm experimenting with ways to combine existing magitech elements to create more complex effects than you could with a single enchantment! [ She's perking up already. ] Currently my research suggests that with enough enchanted components that could interact with one another in the right way, you could operate and power complex technology beyond anything this world has created so far! Buuut it's kind of a work in progress because I can't do magic and I have to get all my supplies from junkyards.

[psychotronics]

[ That sure would be one hell of a way to boost this place up into the 21st century. ]

Does the Coven not support this research? Sounds like something that would be beneficial for them to consider.

[tinyfood]

Oh, ah... [ She shrugs sort of lopsidedly, looking a little uncomfortable. ] They haven't exactly been on board with my research in the past...

[psychotronics]

[ Morgan is sensing some red flags here, but those have never stopped her before and they're not about to stop her now. ]

Really? Why's that? It sounds useful enough.

[tinyfood]

Mmmm, well, the first time I tried to work on some of this stuff I didn't really know how things worked here and I took a bunch of equipment and supplies that people weren't using, and I kiiind of got arrested...

[psychotronics]

[ A wry but understanding smile quirks the corners of her lips. ]

For stealing?

[tinyfood]

Yeah, for stealing... [ She leans forward, peering at Morgan suspiciously. ] Are you smiling? Normally people don't smile when I tell them about the stealing.

[psychotronics]

[ She laughs quietly. ]

Am I? Huh. I guess I am. Dunno why, stealing is a not so great thing to do. I guess... You've clearly got a passion for what you do that I just. Find sort of admirable.

[ She also finds it a little bit concerning, since she's experienced first hand what happens when you do science with all passion and no moral restraint, but. She's not about to give Entrapta shit about that based off one small incident. ]

[ Entrapta, who absolutely does not deserve the benefit of anybody's doubt on the subject of moral restraint, perks up a little. ]

Oh! Yes, I mean, I just like figuring stuff out! Don't you?

[psychotronics]

I... [ She hesitates for half a second. ] Yeah. I do.

[ It's true, even now. Even if she's no longer actively doing lab work. She's just a lot more cautious about how far she's willing to go to make those discoveries now. ]

[ Entrapta grins. ] Sooo... would you maybe be interested in helping me document the effects of a bond...? Or does that, ah, self experimentation thing make that a no go...

[psychotronics]

[ Morgan taps her fingers thoughtfully for a moment, her expression impassive. The cue music in the background has been getting faster and faster, and suddenly the timer runs out.

She pushes her chair back and stands up, giving Entrapta a little nod. ]

Come find me after this is over.

[tinyfood]

[ Entrapta claps her hands together delightedly. ]

Okay!

[ After all the shuffling around and question-asking is over and everyone is starting to head out, Entrapta spots Morgan a little way off – she lifts one hand straight above her head and waves. ] Hey! Morgan! Hey!

[psychotronics]

Morgan catches sight of her and makes her way over through the crowd.

Entrapta. [ Still a weird name. Weird to say. ] So. I figured we'd better go over some details before we commit to anything.

[ it's a totally normal name i don't know what you're talking about ]

Oh, sure! [ She eagerly clasps two of her hands together. ] What d'you want to know?
