★FIRST EVER WITCH & MONSTER SPEED DATING!

Who: All the people who signed up for Speed Dating!
When: Aguril 10th, 7PM-11PM
Where: The Little Melody music hall, side room.
What: Steven has organized a speed dating event for witches and monsters to meet each other. This log is closed to helpers and people who have signed up on the OOC event post.
Warnings: Good clean fun. Hopefully.

Finally, the day arrives. Steven will have contacted everyone coming by watch in advance, giving them the venue information and confirming their arrival. It turns out that he has arranged for a side room in the Little Melody music hall to be used for this event - he's made a positive enough impression with some of them that he managed to get it without charge, in exchange for doing chores around the hall. It's a somewhat ornate music room with a piano, chairs along the walls, 10 tables set up for dates, and one larger table set up with a potluck 'buffet' or sorts.

The offerings definitely include at least one quiche and one pie, provided by Papyrus, complete with a little note card thanking him and a description of what each food is. Papyrus's pies are actually pretty okay, even if the crust is a little crispy in places. Alongside that is water, a couple types of juice, and four trays of sandwiches: ham with cheese, chicken salad, egg salad, and veggie. Beyond that, Steven will display anything people bring with them, and write up little note cards to go along with the others.

Each table is set up with a lit candle and a sheet with a series of 'Icebreaking Questions', which read as follows:

1) What would you take with you to a desert island?
2) If you had to be someone else for a day, who would you be and why?
3) If you could invite anyone, dead or alive, to dinner, who would it be?
4) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
5) What would be your ideal holiday destination?
6) What's the most reckless thing you've ever done?
7) What makes you laugh?
8) Do you have a party trick?
9) If you could be granted three wishes, what would they be?
10) What time in history would you have liked to be born in and why?
11) What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
12) What would be the title of your biography?
13) What is your favourite restaurant meal?
14) If you were given 1,000,000 cunes what would you spend it on?

Of course, using these questions is optional. Each date will last FIVE MINUTES, during which Steven and Elliot will be playing music to accompany on piano and violin. Towards the end of the five minute period, they will ramp up the tempo a bit to indicate that you are almost done, and then stop to tell people to change tables. During the whole proceeding, Steven will be projecting a sort of ambient illusion over the room, making the roof look like twinkling stars and leaving impossible to touch sparkles in the air.

OOCLY, I have made top levels below for every participating character, indicating who they have been randomly selected to tag. ICly, all witches will presumably have the chance to talk to all monsters, but since it isn't realistic to expect everyone to do 10 threads, we are starting with two tag outs. Beyond that, you can tag out to any additional people that you like. Find you character's name down below, see who you are assigned to tag (and who you have been tagged by!) and start a thread as soon as you are able. I understand that life happens and not all of these threads will happen, but it would be really cool if they could! I recommend keeping tags short and light to ease the load - and also because that seems suited to Speed Dating, anyway.

After the dating session is over, you can also make general mingle threads of people hanging out afterwards. The dating will only take about an hour, and Steven has the venue booked until 11PM.

NOTE: When you have an idea how your threads are going, please fill out the Google Form to submit your character's grades for each date. This is mostly just so you can have the fun of seeing who would formally approve of and reject your character.

Maybe that will be my first one!

[He has yet to attend any sort of class.]

So you're like, a monster... what kind?

[They have five minutes; might as well start there.]

I'd say it's a surefire crowd pleaser.

[Toki please… education is important!!

There's a flicker of emotion, but he spreads his hands, fairly obviously taloned.]
. From the evidence, I'd say Harpy. And- you're a Witch? Do you have something you intend to specialise in?

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-08-11 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Toki stares at the talons, and there's a little flicker of sadness in his eyes before it's hidden. They remind him of someone, those hands.]

Harpy, that's like a bird, right?

[Like a tengu. He's known a couple.]

Yes, I passed that magic test thing, so that's- A specialty!? Am I supposed to pick something!? [So much work.] Okay, so like, tell me if I'm wrong here, but I thought the less I used magic, it like prevented whatever spontaneous combustion thing happens!?

[He should have paid more attention to Nessie and Mhairi. He was under the impression magic classes were completely optional and he could choose to do nothing. He doesn't want any magic powers again, they suck.]
wordsinthesoul: (examining)

[Ah… so perhaps he's not the only one bothered by this. Thancred tucks his hands together, and nods.]

Just so. It doesn't seem they- or we're- one species specially, which is curious…

Ah- well, I'm not sure I could say for certain, but it seems likely. [Given his experience back home, at the Studium. He tilts his head, frowning.] Where did you hear that? From what I recall, it seemed the opposite way- that not using magic allowed it to build up to dangerous levels.

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-08-12 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That is weird. You'd think everyone would be the same type of monster...

[He should have paid attention.]

Did I get it backwards!?

[He looks at his hands, like he's expecting some sort of magic to come pouring out at any moment.]

I think I'm safe for now, but I will get on that! I wonder if I can specialize in like uhh... making things appears out of nowhere~! I've done that before, it shouldn't be too hard!
wordsinthesoul: (out and about)

Or… similar within those we know of here. I… there are a number of different peoples, where I come from.

[The tribes are… well, they don't look much like those called Spoken, but- they can understand each other. That's a little of why this bothers him…

He reaches out to pat Toki's hands, trying to reassure him.]

We've straightened it out now. I'm sure you'll be able to sort something out before it becomes a problem.

[Just like that, and he nods, giving Toki a smile.]. That's… hm, conjury, I think? But- there was such a magic in your world, then? Might I ask you more about it?

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-08-13 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, i-it'll be fine~!

[He smiles back; maybe this magic explosion deal isn't as bad as he thought. There's time.]

Conjury! Yeah, like- that's sounds right!?

[He's been called insane like twice already for explaining his world's magic, and died once trying to prove this world was the same type of deal. He was wrong.]

Well, my world, like the one I'm actually from, doesn't have any magic at all. It's just normal people with jobs and schools and like normal things! But! I like got transported into this other place after a demon ripped out my eye and like that place had demons and magic and was like in the past, but it's wasn't really magic, or I didn't think it was! I thought because when it happened I was looking at a virtual reality exhibit, so I thought that's where I went, into that place because even though it was like 300 years in the past, there was a computer thing on the doors where I was last and it was like proof it wasn't real, but anyway! In that world, because no one was expecting me to show up, I had like god powers and could do anything by just thinking about it and it kind of happened accidentally most of the time because I haven't- hadn't figured it out yet, but yeah- like making things out of nothing and c-changing the world by one decision~!

[He may have essentially erased some people, but... those things happen.]

I thought like this place was the same; another computerized world, but like- it's not because dying didn't bring me back to my world or give me like a second life here coming out of the mirror again, so maybe everything is real after all! What were we talking about?
wordsinthesoul: (here's one I prepared earlier)

[personal profile] wordsinthesoul 2019-08-15 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You were brought into a different world?

[What in the world, that sounds wild. Not… impossible, given what's happened to them now, but- he's frowning, trying to listen and comprehend Toki's experience from what he's being told. It sounds… a little like what Allag might have been capable of though he's not one of their specialists.]

That… doesn't sound like something to be assumed simply.

…well. I'd assumed it was some manner of purgatory, but it doesn't seem to be that, either. Best to assume it's real, given the dangers. […did he actually die? That's… should he ask?]. We were speaking of magic. In truth, the conjury I"m familiar with in my own star is a little different- it was developed in part to aid people in understanding the elementals, and so commanding a part of that elemental power.
