Where: The Little Melody music hall, side room.
What: Steven has organized a speed dating event for witches and monsters to meet each other. This log is closed to helpers and people who have signed up on the OOC event post.
Warnings: Good clean fun. Hopefully.


Finally, the day arrives. Steven will have contacted everyone coming by watch in advance, giving them the venue information and confirming their arrival. It turns out that he has arranged for a side room in the Little Melody music hall to be used for this event - he's made a positive enough impression with some of them that he managed to get it without charge, in exchange for doing chores around the hall. It's a somewhat ornate music room with a piano, chairs along the walls, 10 tables set up for dates, and one larger table set up with a potluck 'buffet' or sorts.

The offerings definitely include at least one quiche and one pie, provided by Papyrus, complete with a little note card thanking him and a description of what each food is. Papyrus's pies are actually pretty okay, even if the crust is a little crispy in places. Alongside that is water, a couple types of juice, and four trays of sandwiches: ham with cheese, chicken salad, egg salad, and veggie. Beyond that, Steven will display anything people bring with them, and write up little note cards to go along with the others.

Each table is set up with a lit candle and a sheet with a series of 'Icebreaking Questions', which read as follows:

1) What would you take with you to a desert island?
2) If you had to be someone else for a day, who would you be and why?
3) If you could invite anyone, dead or alive, to dinner, who would it be?
4) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
5) What would be your ideal holiday destination?
6) What's the most reckless thing you've ever done?
7) What makes you laugh?
8) Do you have a party trick?
9) If you could be granted three wishes, what would they be?
10) What time in history would you have liked to be born in and why?
11) What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
12) What would be the title of your biography?
13) What is your favourite restaurant meal?
14) If you were given 1,000,000 cunes what would you spend it on?

Of course, using these questions is optional. Each date will last FIVE MINUTES, during which Steven and Elliot will be playing music to accompany on piano and violin. Towards the end of the five minute period, they will ramp up the tempo a bit to indicate that you are almost done, and then stop to tell people to change tables. During the whole proceeding, Steven will be projecting a sort of ambient illusion over the room, making the roof look like twinkling stars and leaving impossible to touch sparkles in the air.

OOCLY, I have made top levels below for every participating character, indicating who they have been randomly selected to tag. ICly, all witches will presumably have the chance to talk to all monsters, but since it isn't realistic to expect everyone to do 10 threads, we are starting with two tag outs. Beyond that, you can tag out to any additional people that you like. Find you character's name down below, see who you are assigned to tag (and who you have been tagged by!) and start a thread as soon as you are able. I understand that life happens and not all of these threads will happen, but it would be really cool if they could! I recommend keeping tags short and light to ease the load - and also because that seems suited to Speed Dating, anyway.

After the dating session is over, you can also make general mingle threads of people hanging out afterwards. The dating will only take about an hour, and Steven has the venue booked until 11PM.

NOTE: When you have an idea how your threads are going, please fill out the Google Form to submit your character's grades for each date. This is mostly just so you can have the fun of seeing who would formally approve of and reject your character.

[Towa's used to people misreading her age, she wouldn't be offended if the other woman thought she were younger. But there is something pleasantly familiar about the casual offer of alcohol. The difference now is that she's in a position to accept.]

I haven't before, no, but I wouldn't mind trying it if you're not opposed to sharing.

Then I'll endeavor to make it a memorable experience, this being your first time. [ Lancer winked, pouring out a portion for Towa. Before she passed the snifter towards her, though, she dipped her fingertips into the glass of water they'd both been given, letting several drops of it fall into the spirit below, gently letting the snifter roll in her grip as she did so, stirring it in. She did this for several drops before finally passing it towards Towa. ]

I'll give these folks some credit, their scotch is fairly nice.

[It's nice to be able to have a drink-- even nicer to meet someone who doesn't immediately question her ability to do so because of her short stature.]

Thanks for the drink.

[Not too quick with her first sip, but she does take a bit more once she gets a taste for it.]

You're right. It has a really rich flavor.

And the water helps bring out flavors that would have been hidden beneath the alcohol itself, a trick for when you're next at the bar, yourself.

[ Lancer, clearly, preferred hers candle-warmed, pulling her snifter back away from the candle and taking a slow, long sip before letting out a small sigh. ]

Well beyond your appreciation of fine spirits, lass, I'd like to know you better. Tell me a bit about yourself.

I had no idea. [This is a trick she'll have to remember.] It really does make a difference.

Well... let's see. I graduated a little over a year ago from Thors Military Academy, from one of it's three classes of commoners. I'm currently on a tour of several different organizations that offered me jobs when I graduated-- but I'm not exactly sure what to do. Let's see, what else... well. I enjoy star-gazing too.

[scatmaam]

[ Lancer's eyebrow cocked. ]

A military academy, is it? I have to admit, I hadn't picked you for the sort who'd come from a background like that.

While hardly so formal, I was once a trainer of soldiers, myself.

[overworker]

Heehee, don't worry. A lot of people don't.

[It doesn't bother her too much.]

I have a fair bit of battle experience, but it's mostly limited to the use of guns. Physically, well... I'm not much of a threat.

[scatmaam]

Even so, while I may be unfond of firearms myself, I recognize the skill it takes to use one effectively. There are many ways to be a warrior, lass. [ Lancer hummed, sipping her drink. ]

And besides, I think I can judge for myself how physically fit you may be.

[overworker]

I suppose that's true... if you were an instructor yourself then you probably have good intuition when it comes to things like that.

[...in that case maybe it's okay to ask her opinion.]

Right now I'm trying to find a good alternative actually-- the gun I normally use technically shoots magic so... I'm still trying to figure out how to make that work here. So if you might have any suggestions, I'd be very happy to hear them.

[scatmaam]

[ The woman shook her head, letting out a sigh. ]

As said, I'm unfond of those things. I doubt I'd be able to help at all. But there's a man named Archer here who may be better able to aid you. I could put you in touch with him, if you so desire.

[overworker]

Oh no, I meant... if there was something else I might be able to use.

[Although that's certainly something to remember for the future.]

I'm sure I can make it work eventually, but in the meantime I don't want to be a burden. So... if there was another weapon you thought I might be capable of using, it might give me something to try in the meantime.

[scatmaam]

[ Lancer leaned over the table, examining the girl perhaps a bit too closely, letting out a soft hum as she tapped her chin. ]

Are you not a magus here, lass? Are the teachings of the Coven not satisfactory to you?

[overworker]

It's not that. I've only been here a short time, but they've been able to teach me a lot of things.

But I don't want to become comfortable relying on just that. In the future, I might be responsible for supporting someone else. I can't slack off now if I want to do that.

[scatmaam]

It sounds as if you're putting the pressure entirely on yourself, lass. May I ask why you're in such a hurry to become a fighter, here?

[overworker]

I...

[Towa stares down at her drink a moment before taking another sip. Watching the liquid gently slosh around she finally speaks up.]

There are some people here that I want to protect. Friends that have done so much for me, even when I couldn’t really help them.

[scatmaam]

[ Well. How unsurprising that it was a reason like this. This girl definitely seemed the type. Lancer might not have read her as a warrior, but she did read her as someone with quite a heart. Hm. ]

Your sentiment isn't lost on me. [ Scathach sighed, shaking her head. ] But even so, as a magus, it's your role to support, not to fight yourself. If you want to protect them, learn to do so with your own talents, not wishing for the skills of others.

[ She took a sip of her drink. ] Though, if it's all the same to you, lass, this doesn't seem like good 'date' conversation, does it? Not that I mind having it, but I doubt this is all you wished to talk about...

[The advice is not lost on her. In fact, she listens very carefully. But she’s right— there are better times to worry about such things.]

You’re right, I got a bit carried away. I’d like to know more about you as well.

[She hasn’t been on many things that could even be remotely considered dates, but she doesn’t feel completely at odds, thanks to the other woman’s willingness to talk with her. The alcohol doesn’t hurt either.]

Anything you feel like talking about really.

[scatmaam]

Well, I'm fond of good drink, as obvious, and I'm a warrior, myself. I keep myself in good condition. [ Especially important in a world where she couldn't just rely on magic to enhance her physicality. ]

I also fancy music and dance. I've taught myself a few instruments over the years, but most of what I prefer is to see the fare smile of a dance partner as I see them get lost in a moment of bliss.

[overworker]

[So she's strong, talented, charming... she's incredible really.]

Wow... I know a little bit about music myself, but all I can do is sing. [More than that though--] But a dance like that... it sounds truly wonderful.

[Like the kind of thing you picture in fairytales-- certainly nothing she'd expect to experience in her life.]

[scatmaam]

I could show you, if you're so inclined.

[ Scathach wasn't satisfied to let that sort of thing only remain a dream or whim. She sipped her drink, leaning in close again to let Tama get a closer look at her own face, and see the sincerity there. ]

[overworker]

Me? Really?

[Towa hadn't expected that-- but she can see in the woman's expression that it's not a mistake. Quickly, she takes another drink-- if she's going to do something embarrassing, it might help. Or make things worse, who knows.]

I'd be happy to.

[scatmaam]

I had a feeling you'd accept. [ Scathach chuckled, a gentleness to her smile as she reached out to take Towa's free hand with her own, brushing her thumb over her knuckles as she took another sip of her drink. ]

Let's say we finish the rest of this bottle elsewhere, then, hmm? This doesn't particularly seem like a dancing crowd...

[overworker]

[The hand on her own is warm, leaving her with the gentle feeling of butterflies in her stomach. It's not a bad feeling at all.]

We'd probably make quite a scene.

[And she'd rather not draw that much attention.]

Alright. Where to?

[scatmaam]

I know a good pub not far from here. The fiddler in the band is quite good, and the atmosphere suits me a mark better than all this.

[ Scathach was, 100%, suggesting they ditch on the rest of the little dating game. ]

[overworker]

[Under most normal circumstances Towa would feel bad abandoning the event-- but in this case, she feels like she'd regret it worse if she turned down the invitation.]
