[Open] I was a heavy heart to carry
Who: Newt Scamander(
newtralize) and You!
When: Throughout the month of August
Where: Various Locations
What: Quests, Magic, Canon Update, and a heavy dose of sad.
Warnings: Canon Update to end of CoG and will include mentions/talk of death.
I. Arwel's Favors
[One of the upside of having his niffler was for the array of items that the small creature brought back to the house to outfit the new burrow it was making for itself. Of course, a lot of these items weren't well suited for the creature's burrow and eventually abandoned. Either way, there were an assortment of items that he could drop off. Scales and baubles and bells collected from Harry, who isn't too pleased to have some of his treasures taken.
Newt leaves the establishment with the scarf tucked around his neck before taking a walk around the town, not aware of the effects the scarf might have.]
II. Lunasa Ceremonies
[Newt was fond of dancing, but he was far less willing to dance this time around after his rather mortifying display before with the love potions and all.
He had only meant to watch the merriment (he enjoys people watching), but he finds himself suddenly being dragged into the middle and pushed into another person.] Ah wait- [Too late. It seems you're stuck dancing with the man who awkwardly is staring down at your feet and not your face.] I, oh Merlin, I'm quite sorry. I-
[At least he isn't drunk on some potion this time, but this is really not his element.]
III. Lunasa Catwalk
Oh, absolutely not. No.
[He'll dance with strangers and get pulled into their ceremonies. What he isn't going to do? Be a model for someone and walk some catwalk where everyone can stare at him. That is possibly...the last thing he would ever do willingly. Which is to say, it seems like he isn't getting much of a choice. The young fashion designers are just shoving clothes into his arms to change into.]
I- No- I didn't sign up for this.
[Help...]
IV. Mirror, Mirror (August 10th)
[It's early morning when he finds himself pulled towards the Looking-Glass House. He never had a strong care of going to it. Even with new people arriving, he wandered to the Coven moreso than the place filled with mirrors.
Yet, he found himself drawn to it and wanders into the same room where he had found himself arriving months ago. He places a hand on the mirror he had walked through out of; curious as to why he felt pulled towards it. It happens in a flash that he almost wouldn't have believed what had shown in the mirror. He would, if it didn't weigh so heavy on him immediately.
The return to England to Paris to Hogwarts.
He backs away from the mirror as though it had burned him. He felt lightheaded. Breathless. Newt stares at the mirror before looking at the room before looking back at the mirror.
Eventually he leaves though and wanders through the town listlessly for a bit. Newt can be found throughout the city. His usual haunts, but there's a certain sluggishness in his step. A faraway look in his gaze as though he's not really focusing ahead of him and completely lost in a turmoil of thoughts.]
V. Pile's Plea (August 10th and beyond)
[Note: Newt is canon updated at this point]
[The loose pygmy jacks are a good distraction for Newt. He's a common face at Pile's Petagorium, unsurprising no one.
He's got an armful of the small creatures as he's running down a street following another one of the small rabbit-like beasts. Chasing slippery little creatures is somewhat of a normalcy for Newt. He had chased after his niffler countless times that chasing these little guys is almost refreshing. Though, the quantity of them is probably the most tiring part. With the nifflers, he had only five at most to chase after. With the pygmy jacks, he isn't sure if it'll ever end.]
Oh, come on now. [Weaving through people with furry animals in tow is also a little troublesome.] They weren't kidding when they said they weren't familiar with the city. I think I've found them in every corner of the city. [The ones already in Newt's possession look up at Newt innocently enough.]
VI. Wilde Quests
A
[He lets out a bit of a yawn before rubbing his eyes. Surveillance wasn't usually an issue for him. He had done plenty enough stakeouts in the past, but sleep had been fairly difficult as of late.
There was action here and there, which was enough for him to keep going, but enough downtime that it let him to his thoughts too long. He held his wand loosely in his right hand as he watched the witches work on their teleportation spells before glancing around him.
While Newt was usually a quiet man, he seemed quieter than usual.]
B
[Supply runs was better to keep him busy and being quiet, quick and undetectable was definitely a skill Newt had honed over his travels.] This way.
[He speaks in a hushed, quiet tone as he gestures his partner to follow him. He's equipped well enough to fight if they had to fight, but Newt would prefer getting through this without any fighting. He really had enough fighting for a little while.]
VII. Wildcard
[If none of these work, feel free to PM me or message me via plurk
rakuranger. Drop me a separate starter or I'm more than happy to write a starter that works for you!]

the worst death imaginable
Newt?!
[Newt will at least get to see his brother caught fully off guard, his jaw hanging in a rather undignified manner as the person next to him ribs the Auror in the side to be quiet. But Theseus either doesn't care or doesn't notice because he's staring straight at his brother, like he's really making sure that it's Newt walking down the catwalk and not anything else, such as his eyes playing tricks on him. ...Not that he would ever want to see Newt in an outfit like this, but just the situation is so bizarre.
It's easy to assume that he got dragged into this, similarly to how Theseus got dragged into watching this fashion show in the first place. But Newt has been dealt with a far harsher fate than him.]
Why won't the earth just swallow him so he can stop existing. Death is more merciful tbh
At least he seemingly goes through the entire walk. The (awkward) pose at the end of the catwalk to show off the outfit a bit before he has to make the walk of shame back off the catwalk.
He surely was already thinking of how to avoid his brother for the rest of his life, assuming he doesn't get forced into another outfit.
Maybe...Maybe Theseus won't go looking for him and they can both consider this some shared, awful fever dream. That would be great, right? This didn't happen. At all. Nope. Just a fluke from their combined imaginations somehow.]
the beginning of the end for newt
--to take a picture.
Now, Theseus Scamander is definitely a man with rigid morals; he's a war hero and Head Auror of the British Ministry. But he's also the older brother of Newton Artemis Fido Scamander and really, what sort of older brother is going to ignore an opportunity for teasing? It's part of his duty, he doesn't make the rules here.
But once Newt leaves the catwalk, Theseus gets up from his seat and makes his way to the 'back,' intending to find his brother and spare him from any more outfits. Just the one picture is enough ammunition for him; it might be a tad overdone otherwise. ...It has nothing to do with Theseus making sure that Newt doesn't run away from him and escaping his fate. Nope.
He somehow manages to stop the fashion designers from shoving him into an outfit, maybe out of luck or just his 'charm,' but he finds his brother soon enough.]
Never knew you modeled on the side. [This also might be some payback for getting tied up at the French Ministry.]
Shoves his brother back through the mirrors
Though, Theseus really does not make him feel any better.] I don't. I certainly don't decidedly wish to have an entire audience staring at me while I parade about in some mortifying outfit that people want to claim is fashion. [Shaky fingers try to button up his waistcoat.]
If you're going to ridicule me for my performance, I would prefer if you decidedly do this at another time, Theseus. [He really doesn't mean to snap at the other, but the other knew that Newt did not do well in large crowds. Didn't quite enjoy being in the limelight in anyway.]
I- Really, just a moment to breathe would be pleasant. [He's expecting the other to tease him, but at least give him a moment.]
w o w
So any more teasing comments immediately die out and while he's not overly worried, he does take on a more patient sort of look, replacing the merciless expression he had earlier. The time for teasing will come later on. Right now, he'll wait until Newt's ready to go, which is probably soon.
Oh, especially since some of the fashion designers are now waving at them both and pointing rather excitedly at a new outfit. Theseus smiles and waves back at them, but also elbows Newt in the side.]
...Come on, let's go. This place is getting rather stuffy, isn't it? [Better leave now before the situation becomes inescapable.] We could both benefit getting a break from all these festivities.
no subject
Oh no. Oh- Yes, we're leaving. I believe I've had enough merriment for the day. [Newt keeps his coat folded over his arm, seemingly deciding that getting it on right now would just be a waste of time. He quickly loops his arm with Theseus and teleports them away. Newt had spent more of his time working on universal magic and teleportation than the other branches.
Newt teleports them back to the barracks instead. The place was his home now and he could think of nowhere more relaxing than in the peace and quiet of his own place with his few creatures.] Merlin, these people really enjoy their festivities. I could have sworn we just had some festivities last month. [He shakes his head and runs a hand through his hair absentmindedly.]
no subject
Monthly events isn't wholly uncommon, Newt. [Theseus has always been more outgoing though, attending events, even if half the time it's because he's expected to be there. Sometimes it's overwhelming, but Theseus enjoys it on a whole.] Sometimes people really need them.
[But Theseus figures that Newt is faring a little better now, since they're away from the catwalk and back home. So, he can't help himself--]
Don't tell me I missed you in a different gaudy outfit last month.
no subject
It's- Isn't it excessive? [Newt sounds unconvinced. He gets events, but...events aren't festivals. Festivities. But then again, Newt isn't very keen on the whole idea of attending social events.] Need is a strong word for the traditions here and their festivals.
And no. No gaudy outfits. Last month was more about making relationships. Romance and love potions and- [He...He shouldn't have mentioned love potions, he thinks.] Nothing gaudy. No outfits. That's all. [Maybe...Maybe Theseus will let this answer fly. It's fine.]
no subject
Don't be a spoilsport. [Of course, Theseus has only experienced one of these festivals so far, so his tune might change in the future, not to mention that he wasn't the one shoved into an embarrassing outfit... but he thinks these festivals are charming in their own way, even if they are also exhausting. Just a way to bring morale up, for people to celebrate together.]
Besides, are you not happy for the dozens of couples celebrating their love? How depressing, not a single romantic bone in my brother's body...
[Theseus only stops his melodramatic monologue when Newt starts speaking again, but this time his interest is piqued when his brother mentions love potions.]
Love potions? [This place definitely has loose laws when it comes to these sort of things. Not that they're banned back home, but Theseus can't imagine having them out during a large event. It's... certainly irresponsible, in his opinion.
Even if it might provide Theseus with an incredible story about Newt.]
There's a story behind this, isn't there? [Theseus is hear to listen, in fact, he's not going to let Newt escape from this one.]
no subject
He opens his mouth to speak again, but closes it. He had a retort to Theseus' prattling, but the other has brought up love potions and this isn't how he wanted things to go at all.]
No, of course not. Why would there be a story? [Says the man who said that much too quickly and an octave higher than intended.
One day, he'll get good at lying.]
no subject
But Theseus doesn't voice those thoughts, because there's something far more interesting to prod Newt about. He merely raises a sharp eyebrow at his brother's response, showing that he does not believe Newt's lie for even a second. Even someone that doesn't know the man at all could tell that he was lying. Theseus is fine with this, this is something Newt doesn't need to become better at.]
Try again, Newt. Don't tell me my own brother took away someone's first kiss because of a potion now. [Although, come to think of it, would that be Newt's first kiss?? He honestly doesn't know and he never put much thought into it until right now.]
no subject
Though, he does end up bristling a bit at Theseus' words. The other was just very good at getting a reaction out of his younger brother.] Me take their first kiss? You've got to be kidding me. He was the one who initiated and I imagine they are far more experienced than I am. [Wait-] Oh, bugger. [He didn't actually mean to say anything to the other. Theseus just knows how to get Newt to talk.]
no subject
So. You're saying that he was experienced and practically swept you off your feet. [This is better than Theseus even imagined. Judging by the grin stretching across the older Scamander's face, Newt is going have to deal with this for a while.]
Should I be worried about my poor younger brother falling hard for this mysterious suitor?
no subject
We danced. We kissed. Nothing- There isn't more to that. [He says this firmly. It seems less about trying to convince the other and an honest statement that Newt really doesn't believe the incident to be much more than just a passing fancy caused by mishaps with a potion.] Nothing is going to come from it, even if I wanted something to come from it.
no subject
So.
[The Auror begins, a mischievous smile gracing upon him.]
You wanted something to come out of it.
no subject
That- That isn't what I said at all!
[His voice may have gotten a smidge higher.]
Why are you insinuating such things? It's not as though they fancy me. It was a potion. A love potion!
no subject
So, he holds his hands up, but it's obvious that he's having a grand time.]
Yes yes, a love potion, you've mentioned that before. A true shame.
[Okay he couldn't stop that last comment. He'll practice better restraint next time.]
no subject
I think I'm going to get supper started. You really should dry up before you come and assist, Theseus.
[Theseus, stop being a git.]
