Sora?
[Her focus is mostly on Sora and not the other adult in the room as she moves closer with a small basket in her arms. Give her a minute.]
I didn't know if you needed lunch so I wanted to make sure you had some. Hope I wasn't interrupting anything.
no subject
Haha, I sure did-
[But then there's the sound of the door and Sora turns to it with a grin.]
Mira! Hey! You're not interrupting anything! I was just going over some piano lessons. Don't tell Vanitas yet, okay?
[He looks from Mira to Ardbert.]
Ardbert, this is Mira. Mira, this is Ardbert, he's been helping out as a tutor around here at the orphanage!

That to an aside, Elidibis has often found overly energetic adolescence in promising hero form easy to teach by comparing the lesson to something with a lot of action involved. Or at least engaging in lessons involving the favorite past time. Fortunately Sora is enthusiastic about nearly everything.]
Just as long as you don't get overly confident during our next spar.
[A very familiar, very Ardbert toned voice from the other adult in the room. He turns from his position by Sora's seat at the piano to look at the new arrival with interest. Just a hint of calculation is schooled away long before Sora turns to the matter of introductions, and there is a friendly enough expression present.
Elidibus has also become practiced in little mortal mannerisms in his few months here in Aefenglom, so he no longer stands there like a calm pillar with hands to his sides. There are normal gestures to go with his words.]
Mira? A friend of Sora's are you? Well, I'm sure the piano can use a break even if he isn't hungry. [Yes he said the piano. There is a slight pause.] Again.
[Elidibus HAS been teaching Sora for a bit now. And a bunch of orphaned children. He has probably been experienced a crash course in the nutritional needs of mortal adolescence.
The room seems to be a place for all the music related functions in the orphanage but it also plays double or triple functions as a classroom or meeting area. So there are tables and chairs available. Ardbert gestures in their direction.]
We should continue a little longer after, Sora. I'll just write down some pointers to go over while you chat and eat.
[She seemed vaguely familiar to Elidibus. Had they passed on the street? Or perhaps a brief description. Hmm Setting himself politely apart would give him a moment to think on it.
He definitely doesn't recognize her.]
5.2 spoilers
She's already gotten used to those from the Source and beyond to not know her; a little lonely but what else is new.
But there's more to it. The fact that Mira cannot take it at face value because of what she had seen in the mirror...she knows Ardbert's soul rests within hers now but he's here right now. Not to mention that the last thing she remembers from her part of the universe is that someone else is running around in Ardbert's body and more than happy to create more Warriors of Light.
But who is in that body: a comrade or the last remaining Unsundered? And no, she isn't going by the clean shaven as a reason.
Mira has to be sure that her hunch is correct and she isn't damning the actual innocent himbo. It wouldn't hurt to...test it a little?]
Ardbert yes? I suppose a mother type seems to be a much more accurate description. 'Tis nice to meet you.
[And she extends her fist out to him, letting it stay still. If this is Ardbert, he'd know what to do. Or if Elidibus paid attention.]

Still, Sora's sensitive rabbit ears twitch and fold back slightly. He smiles nonetheless.]
Yeah sure, I think it's about time for a lunch break! I'm starving. Thanks a lot, Mira.
[He looks at Ardbert. He quips with an easygoing note,]
Mira's the mother type person that me and Vanitas live with.
no subject
Ah, I see! Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Mira. [Sora probably knows 'Ardbert' has a 'lesson' dialect and a 'social' dialect... so to speak. He's often a lot less formal (if still a bit archaic) when speaking to strangers particularly. And as usual, he seems to have switched to this mode when addressing Mira. The warrior doesn't seem particularly confused by Sora's explanation. Some form of context has probably been mentioned before even if details are extremely lacking. Elidibus regrets not having delved further into the matter.] It's good to meet someone whom Sora holds in high regard.
[When it comes to the outstretched arm, however, the man calling himself Ardbert seems puzzled. Elidibus is somewhat at a loss. While he has been in Aefenglom long enough to pick up on the nuances of greetings which mortal kind tend to use amongst themselves, this is not something within the bounds of a normal gesture between strangers meeting for the first time.
It is also not the gesture which the Warrior of Light from his timeline had used to smoke him out as distinctly 'not Ardbert'.
For just a moment, the man's pale blue eyes shift toward Sora to see if the youth finds the gesture odd in context to the situation. He'll be watching for expressions and tells from those long ears which seem on alert. Then he looks back toward Mira and offers in a somewhat sheepish tone while reaching out a hand. He clenches then unclenches as if trying to decide between a handshake or similar posture to Mira.]
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that type of greeting. How does it go again?
[Definitely not Ardbert. But at least Elidibus has learned it isn't a sign that Mira's arm is broken.]
no subject
The only reason why she doesn't think he's Elidibus from the get go is because she knows about time being weird so she holds back that judgement. Still going to test him a bit more.]
Oh. Well you see, it goes like this.
[She brings her other arm to her and connects her knuckles together. She shrugs sheepishly as she then brings her arms down.]
I suppose you wouldn't remember. After all, this place has the means to pluck those from different times and different versions of the same star. I didn't want to startle you instantly you know? Awkward and all that.
[She is hinting at the idea that she knows 'Ardbert' but is clarifying that due to this place, timey whimey bullshit happens. She's used to not being recognised after all so memories can be awkward. But Mira isn't playing around, not when it comes to Sora.]
So sorry this is so late! ;_;
I see! My apologies, Mira.
[Elidibus does ponder the matter. It seems an odd sort of greeting, but he's surely witnessed countless cultures perform stranger. Surely, even if he doesn't remember many of them clearly.
...
He looks up again with a pleasant grin and a somewhat unguarded expression listens. His eyes widen a trifle. Then narrow.]
Wouldn't remember...?
[And Mira herself speaks of other times and places. What troubles Elidibus has with his memory do not apply to his time spent in Aefenglom. He clearly remembers another conversation wherein he used the excuse of other times and different variations to neatly mislead a Warrior of Light for a time. With it comes realization and the spark of another memory, this one outlining a basic description.
One which Mira fits.]
Ah. So you are the other one.
[The voice of Ardbert doesn't change. Elidibus still sounds like the man. But his manner of speech begins to lose the real Ardbert's idioms and patterns. It's not as if he's unaware that he's in the middle of the orphanage after all. His expression calms. For Sora, it may seem perfectly okay. Elidibus tends to have a more somber air about him when giving private piano lessons. Though he does usually offer a faint smile- even this expression has melted away to a straight-lipped seriousness.]
I ask that you indulge me, Warrior of Light. I would have this discussion be private. [A glance is cast toward Sora.] ...For those already present.
[A hand is raised, fingers spread in an unfortunately familiar enough gesture. Though Elidibus has not mastered this world's magic enough to be completely free of a need to chant, other habits remain. A read of the intention is easy enough. This world translates all languages to their common tongue for universal understanding. Although the utterances may be a language of eld, the details of the spell are heard. 'Let this room be enshrouded from prying eyes. Let sound not escape. Let those who near move pass as though it does not exist.' There is no hint that any are prevented from leaving or- technically speaking- entering. It will simply make it difficult at best to eavesdrop.
Of course, he can be prevented from finishing the cast. Would either act to do so, though?]
sorry this is late XD
Mira is Tired. And perhaps that plays a part in it. Instead she raises her hand up a little and speaks.]
There's no need to do that. No one here is going to care about what has occurred prior to our arrivals. Best to have it out in the open instead of trying to constantly hide a secret if it's not needed.
[All she uses is words, no other amount of force is needed. If Elidibus simply wants to talk then it's only fair that Mira gives it a shot.]
no subject
[This doesn't appear to be a matter of stubbornness but of practicality. There are undoubtedly matters that need to be discussed which, if overheard, likely will impact his current
schemesventures. Better to worry about that if Mira decides to let them know after this discussion than let it cost him a great deal of progress. There's only so much an outsider would ignore about prior history if it was revealed a known schemer of Elidibus's nature had taken to teaching an orphanage full of children. Also, he would be troubled to find another stable source of income, odd jobs or no. So the spell is set with the aforementioned parameters. Sora is included in the conversation but those outside should pass by without hearing anything.
And once it does, the Ascian drops the last facade of Ardbert's voice and a limited act of a personality to address Mira.]
It should not be difficult to understand the advantage such a facade might still possess.
[A distinctively different voice yes. But if any present have especially acute hearing they might take note that this is no literal change but a masterful mimicry. Aefenglom has trapped Elidibus in this body and stripped him of his former glory. And while like this, Ardbert's normal voice is the default. He has to work to present himself as the Emissary of the Convocation of Fourteen.
Which of course he will. Pride demands it.]
Let us then speak, Warrior of Light. [Momentarily his gaze shifts to Sora. Now there is no sense of danger right now, but there is the tension detected in the air and the sudden shift from a quiet but possibly good-natured 'mortal' to a very old being with a distinctly different voice might be disconcerting. And the Ascian is dangerous in general. Elidibus looks back to Mira.] Shall I introduce myself anew to your charge? Or would you care to impart your knowledge on the matter?
[That... was almost humor.]

[It's been awhile since she was called 'Warrior of Light' or even 'Hero' but that last one feels much more sour thanks to Emet-Selch. If anything, she's gotten very anxious about any type of title involving heroics and her realization that she didn't care for them so much. She didn't want to be simply known as Hydaelyn's weapon which was why she was doing all she could to help others that didn't involve cutting someone down.
Besides, she's suuure that people will think someone teaching orphans their letters and numbers will cause great harm. Well, the rich might but the last time they tried to do something, an entire family got executed for torturing innocent people because of their stance on Mirrorbound.]
Best if you do; it would mean more coming from you than a second hand source.
[You're here Elidibus, you can tell Sora. Watch him still have good thoughts once hearing everything.]

[After all, he is about to give his title. It is all a matter of formality.
'Ardbert' turns to regard Sora with a somber expression. And when he introduces himself a hand is raised and a glyph is brought into being. Imagery and illusion, but pride had demanded he take the time to learn at least this much.]
I borrowed the name and visage of the true Ardbert in the past. And continued to do so here as this Star saw fit to confine me to this vessel. My true identity is Elidibus. I am the emissary bearing the word of the true God.
[The glyph fades. It was a short duration spell.]
Though we seem to come from differing possibilities of our Star's past and future, the goals of Mira and myself stand in opposition. I will not make excuses for my deception, nor fault you, should you hold enmity toward me for it.
[Of course there's more to the story. But the meat of an introduction is done. It leaves room for questions. But first Elidibus glances momentarily toward Mira to include her.]
Nor will I pretend I would not have used this guise even were it not part of my current prison. Regardless of my anger to this star, I do not plan to let it drag me down with its demise. To such ends, I will contribute my aid.
