It, uh. It should be fine. Toothless usually plays like that with Stormfly and it's harmless, so... [So maybe he'll be fine with whatever that is too. At least the sounds he's making as he gets dragged around by a torn banner are definitely in the 'playing' camp and not the 'I'm actually fighting for dominance' camp.] Haaa, you and me both. Never saw this coming when I woke up this morning.

[He laughs a little sheepishly and turns away from the pair of creatures as well.]

Oh, good. I mean, not good that you're- you know, having trouble, but I was wondering if I was the only one that thought it felt- a little uncomfortable. Maybe I just need to, I don't know, use it more? But... [He glances again at the singed, torn banner.] Maybe not. Right now.

I'm not sure Greg has done much playing. Based on my check up on him; he seemed to have been recovering from enslavement. He has some areas that seemed to be raw from whatever was keeping him in captivity. [He frowns a little at that. Greg playing with Toothless is definitely a positive thing.] Some positive activities like this will do him good with recovery.

[Newt smiles a little at that.] Well, I can't say any of us were expecting to end up wherever here is.

I understand. It's mostly bothersome, since magic was just something that was part of my everyday. It just really means that I'll be spending quite a bit of time trying to learn what I can here. [He impulsively places a hand over where his wand had been tucked into his coat. It really was just a stick at the moment, but he hopefully will make use of it again in the near future.] Well, it's not as though we don't have some friends to help put out more fires.

[He glances back at the two. The zouwu has let go of the sad excuse for fabric and was now sniffing at Toothless curiously.] On second thought, perhaps that's wise. [Newt, for someone who does enjoy his peace, also is a bit of a magnet for trouble and apparently property damage.] Although, the zouwu has definitely caused less of a ruckus than some of the other creatures I've had in my care.

I also wouldn't trust them to get carried away with their fun though.

Enslavement? [Hiccup frowns, brows knit together in a grim furrow; it's an expression that says he knows very well what sorts of evils men are capable of.] I guess there are people like that everywhere. We rescue a lot of dragons from hunters and trappers, back on Berk. It's usually a good sign when they start playing again.

[Toothless loses interest in the scrap of banner when Greg does, without someone to play tug-of-war with, tilting his head curiously and allowing the sniffing.]

I can't imagine what it'd be like to have this- power, all the time. I mean, I guess I should, since it's going to be like that here, once I get the... hang of things... [He trails off awkwardly.] How, uh, how is something that big not the most... ruckus-causing? I mean, Toothless has been getting just, you know, constant attention here.

There will always be people who use others for their own gains. [He purses his lips for a moment.] Unfortunately, most people aren't quite so concerned or they lack the knowledge, but I'm hoping to inform others to understand them better.

[Greg bats at Toothless with its paw. It's reminiscent of a cat batting at an object.]

Well, for the most part, you don't really use it. You have it, but it becomes somewhat of a normalcy. You use it when you need it, but you get through your day not really thinking much of it. It just becomes a part of you. [He smiles a bit awkwardly at the question.] Honestly, it's a little nerve wracking. No one really approaches me, but people definitely have stared at times.

I think the size of Greg is off putting enough to keep most at bay. That, and he's not so keen on strangers, so I've been trying to stay out of the way. I'm not particularly good with people.

[When he glances over at Newt, his smile is empathetic, understanding. When it comes down to it, that's what he's trying to do, too - help the world understand these incredible creatures better.] Our missions are pretty similar, then.

[Toothless goes cross-eyed for a moment and his nose wrinkles from being batted; in one fluid, quicksilver motion, he surges up to try and lick Greg across the face. As you do when you meet new not-dragons.]

I can see why they stare. He's incredible. [Hiccup waves a hand vaguely toward the zouwu.] At least people seem to be... trying to be welcoming, even if they're unsure. We just have to make a good impression.

Yes. I was writing a book, but it seems that will be delayed now. [You know, since they're now stuck here.] The irony that I was returning home when I was whisked away to here instead.

[Greg seems a bit befuddled when Toothless suddenly rushes forward to...lick his face. The feline makes a loud rumble. It was more of a noise of surprise or confusion than something aggressive.

Yes. Good impressions...Surely they are on their way with already causing property damage by setting a banner on fire and then letting their friends play with the charred remains...] Oh, he's quite beautiful. I think that I might bring him out from the crowd for a bit though. I think, while socializing him is important, there's a limit to how much he should be exposed at a time. [Newt himself was not terribly huge on being social for long periods of time either.]

What was your book about? Or, I guess, what will it be about when you can pick it back up again? [He still believes they'll find a way to get sent home eventually. They have to - he has things to do back on Berk, and people to protect.

Toothless sits back on his haunches and barks out short guttural laughing sounds, 'smiling' wide with his teeth retracted.]

I don't blame you. Toothless is the same way. He's good with people, but at least we can just go for a fly when it gets to be too much.

Magical beasts. I was traveling to research them and write a comprehensive book about them, their habitats, and anything else. I hope to inform my brethren so that they'll understand the importance of these creatures and possibly be more mindful of them. We don't readily have anything of the sort at the moment. You could say that my viewpoint is a little unique to most. [Magizoologist is basically a self made title more than an actual career.

Greg most definitely pushes Toothless over with its paw again. They're like best friends already.]

I don't know how long Greg had been enslaved, but I will say I'm impressed that he's socializing well enough, but he had definitely gotten a bit defensive in bigger crowds. I think I should probably lead him somewhere more open for a bit so he doesn't get overwhelmed. He was rather panicked when we arrived.
