[ She peering at him now, because hey, it seems anything is possible now. He didn't seem spirit-y, but she was also just told she was a monster even if she still looked and felt the same. ]

[She's actually the first person who's asked, and... she's not wrong.]

Half-spirit, I guess... my father was one. My mother's human, though, and I think that makes me more human with how it works...?

[ Forgive her jaw from dropping slightly. She didn't actually think he was one, what more a half-spirit. Not like she knew much to begin with, but she really didn't think humans and spirits could have kids. ]

O-oh..Okay..

[ What is she supposed to say to that? ]

...I'm Alex, by the way. I'm also new to this place. Not a spirit though..

[Spirits can look like whatever they want... so.......

But honestly that's a pretty normal reaction (it's common somewhere in the heritage, but not when it's that recent) so Paris will just move past it.]

Paris. It's, um, nice to meet you.

And you said she's um...Aeto, right?

[ She smiles down at the spirit, which really wasn't hard with how cute she looked. ]

I'm also not from around here..We don't have any spirits back where I'm from. Not--that I know of anyway. A lot of the stuff here are new to me..so, I'm sorry if I was staring too much.

[Paris nods, and Aeto trills at her. She's nice, she promises.]

I-it's ok. I'm new here too, so... I'm still learning a lot. And no one has known what she is.

[ Oh no, what a cute sound.

Alex crouches down to get a better look, but she keeps her hands on her knees. ]

She seems like good company.

[ Not that Alex knew how she'd react if arrived here with some strange, unknown creature by her side. ]

At least, I think it makes it a little better than being alone.

She is. I'm, um. Really glad she's here.

[He's used to being lonely, but he's rarely ever been actually alone. He's relieved she came with him.]

Um... is anyone you know here?

No..I haven't seen anyone I know here.

[ Alex wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. On one hand, it would have been comforting to have them here. On the other..would she still be in their way?

She looks up at him again, inclining her head towards Aeto. ]

May I..?

She usually doesn't mind.

[But it's always better to check with the spirit herself. Aeto luckily trills happily, lifting her head up to the girl. Yes, she likes pets.]

[ Alex brightens as she carefully holds her hand out, waiting to see if Aeto would want to sniff it first or something. ]

How..are you adjusting to all this?

[ It's been quite a bit for her, so she was curious about how others were handling things. ]

[Aeto doesn't really have much sense of smell, especially on land, so instead she just trills and bumps her head up against the hand.

As for Paris... he winces a little.] It's, um. A lot. [To put it mildly.]

[ Alex's eyes brighten as she gently strokes the top of Aeto's smooth head.

Oh, but she does feel the wince that she sees when she looks up at Paris. ]

It is, isn't it?

[ It was a bit of a relief to see she wasn't the only one. Some of others she met seemed to be taking it a lot better than she was anyway. ]

I just saw someone with the body of a deer and I kept wondering when the body was going to separate and just show another person in a costume.

[Paris is doing.... reasonably well, all things considered. But he feels very overwhelmed by everything that's different here.]

Really...? I, um. I've seen spirits looking like a lot of things, but it's different for people like that to be... living here.

[ It sounds like he had some kind of introduction to..the supernatural? Magical? What does she even call it? ]

Were they nice where you're from?

[Paris nods.] Mmhm. Aeto's a spirit. [Said spirit trills happily, nudging Alex's hand again.] Some of them... aren't, but usually they don't bother you if you don't bother them.

[sing_for_me]

[ Her bad, she'll go back to petting the spirit. ]

Hmm..that doesn't sound all that different from people, then.

[ That was somewhat comforting. Although it hit her how thoughtless her question was, what with Paris being half-spirit and all. Her head snaps up as she looks at him apologetically. ]

I'm sorry, I didn't mean--That was really rude of me!

[Honestly it didn't even occur to Paris to be insulted- he may be half-spirit, but most people think of him as all human even if they know. So he blinks at her, not entirely understanding immediately and shaking his head.]

N-no, it's ok. I don't... mind.

[sing_for_me]

[ That was a relief. She has spoken thoughtlessly before, and she's trying to catch herself when she does. ]

Well..I'm sorry again for earlier. Thank you for letting me pet Aeto.

[ She gives the spirit a few more gentle strokes atop her head before she stands up. ]

I hope I didn't hold you up for too long...I know I'm new myself, but if you ever need help with anything, I'd like to give you a hand if I can.

[Paris shakes his head.] No, it's fine. I, um. It was nice to talk to you.

[Even though he's quite bad at it.]

Um... yes. I can try and help too. If you need it.

[ The offer makes her smile. He seemed a little nervous, just like she tends to be, but he was trying. ]

Thank you. I probably will need it.

[ She laughs lightly at her expense. Getting back out in the world, especially on her own, was something Alex was still learning to do, or re-learning anyway. ]

And..if it's even just to talk. I'd love to hear more about you and where you're from.

[ Part of it was her own curiosity, but the other was, well, it was nice to have someone to talk to every now and then. ]

...Mm. Yeah. Ok.

[Paris isn't great at the whole talking to people thing, but... he would like to be better at it too, he thinks. And she seems nice.] I'd, um. Like talking to you more too.

[ To be told that wasn't something she heard often, and it gave her a little something to look forward to. She bids him and Aeto good bye before heading on her way. ]
