[ This wasn't a conversation she expected to have right off the bat, and she didn't really have an answer prepared. ]

I'm not..sure. Enough to..help, at least?

[ Things had gone done not too long before she ended up here, so she hasn't really had the time to about it. Her fingers start to pluck at each other again. ]
guillotine: and they mean nothing. (they're just notes)

[ As a rule, Nel does prefer the people she questions to have no answers prepared. It's that much harder for them to lie!

Spotting the renewed plucking, she bites back the sigh, leaning over to delicately stop it by putting her hand between Alex's. Simple but effective. ]

Help, it's arguable, is subjective. What help I need is different from what you need.

[ It is effective, in that the action surprised her and reminded her of what she was doing. Alex looks at Nel apologetically, but doesn't voice it.

Her words do make sense. It's not as if she could just guess, other than the obvious, what Nel might need ]

Then..is there something I can do to help you right now?

[ It really is the lease she could do for the comfort she's been given. ]
guillotine: but you could be anyone (I want you so badly)

[ What a question. ]

Yes. It doesn't require much.

[ She tries to smile for Alex without rancor or malice for someone who isn't even present, who may never be present. It's a success insomuch as a strained tug of the mouth isn't very threatening. ]

For now, please just entertain the idea of being each other's eyes and ears in a foreign land. You don't have to answer now.

think this might be a wrap?

[ It was a simple request, and a smart one. Easy enough for Alex to do at least, and one she'd like to take on. As capable as this person may seem, Alex does hope she can help her out even a little. But she also didn't want to make any promises she couldn't keep. ]

I can do that.

[ Whether that was a response to thinking about it or actually doing it is unclear, but she does mean to do both. ]
