Uh-huh. So, when cities get too large, they just...let all of this happen? That seems stupid.
[He still wants to fight the cat, but he's willing to cross his arms, tail still lashing behind him. No fistfights today.]
If you're so used to this smoke, that means you're used to it, right? Or maybe you like the smell?
[He's judging Newt on the most random things, but it all tracks in his head.]

[This is a bit of a more difficult topic because wizards don't really have to follow muggle economics given...well magic. He can't say that he fully knows what they're making. It wasn't like he needed to know either.]
I live in a city and traveled to enough of them, but I don't really benefit from it. I don't actually know why a world full of magic needs these things, but they're just common enough for me to be familiar with them. [The large factories are a far cry from the cobblestone paths filled with small shops of Diagon Alley.]
Are you always this judgmental of people you've barely met? You seem very eager to make assumptions with very little information given.
no subject
[That reasoning is enough to placate Dylas a little. If this is where the work is, of course people would have to live nearby. It's not ideal. It's still super gross. But you can't really make money out of nothing. He crosses his arms, tail swishing as he accepts this logic. He hears Newt's story about his life and...traveling...but his ears twitch at the following accusation.]
What? I'm not being judgmental. I'm just...saying what I'm seeing! But you just said you're not from this world, right? So forget about it.
[He hadn't been sure up until now. It's not like there's anything that tells him Newt is from this world or if he's from another. He quickly decides to change the subject, gesturing with his chin at the man's pet.]
What's that? Some kind of monster?
no subject
[Which is to say, while he finds cities certainly interesting in their own rights, he wasn't exactly the biggest on city life. He lived out of a briefcase for a year pretty much.
He would continue to stubbornly talk about the former, but talking about creatures is basically the quickest way to get the man to happily switch subjects. It probably shows with the way his face even lights up a little.]
He's a Zouwu. Native to the Far East. He's a creature that can travel far distances in a short amount of time. They're known to travel a thousand miles a day even. They're quite powerful and obviously can be quite fast.
no subject
[It's exactly what he was doing, but he thinks that maybe if he insists on it he won't have to own up to it. Dylas is one magical creature that's maybe not worth knowing.]
Your Far East must be a lot different from mine. A thousand miles must be pretty far, right? [The word 'mile' sounds a little unfamiliar on his tongue, and he pauses before and after saying it.] It doesn't look like any of the monsters I'm usually asked to fight...but you look pretty fond him. Did he come through the mirror with you?
no subject
[Newt would continue to argue with the other, since he was pretty stubborn, but he also knows when this argument isn't really going anywhere. The conversation of beasts are more interesting to him, besides.]
Yes. Quite. It's quite a bit of distance to make that isn't possible for people to do on their own feet. Zouwus do it naturally though. [He pats the zouwu's side affectionately. The zouwu is sniffing about and looking at the tall buildings curiously, having found Dylas not to be interesting at the moment.] Yes. It certainly made arriving here a tad, well, exciting I suppose. [If you find a large, panicked creature exciting.]
no subject
I wonder how I missed him. I guess there were all sorts of things going on in that room, though. It was pretty freaky.
[ooc; I'm happy to backtag! I'm just sorry Dylas is so unpleasant.]
no subject
If it makes Dylas feel any better, Greg was with a traveling circus, so oddities are probably kind of normal to it as they are to Newt.] It was chaotic all around when everyone arrived. There was a bit of a delay between me and him arriving, so it's possible you may have left the room by the time he arrived. I can't say I was completely paying attention to everyone or everything around me. [Absolutely chaotic.]
[OOC: Thanks! Also I find him plenty enjoyable so it's fine! Dylas and the Zouwu have definitely gotten me some laughs.]
no subject
[Newt might get the impression that Dylas doesn't really remember the chaos. He'd tuned most of it out. He's pretty good at that.]
How'd that thing get out of the mirror, anyways? I'm surprised it didn't get stuck. He's kind of...thick.
no subject
I- Well, I really can't say. He came after me and by then; I was more concerned over him being in a panic than how he got out of the mirror. That, aside, I don't think it's really that strange. Magic isn't really something you explain or have some concrete explanation as to how it works.
That, and I used to fit hundreds of creatures into a briefcase, so it really isn't too farfetched. [What Newt just said possibly sounds rather ridiculous though.]
no subject
[Magic in his world is like that. Probably? Now he's not so sure. Hell, he's not like a mage or rune scholar or anything.]
Hey. Are you trying to make fun of me or something? There's no way that's possible.
no subject
[Magic works in mysterious ways is something people say, right? Unless the other wishes to try and explain things like transforming objects or conjuring items. He has never cared for the particulars because it was just accepted that this was something possible.]
What? Why would I be making fun of you? [Even if the other kind of insulted him first.] How else was I supposed to transport them while traveling?
no subject
[But he's lived his entire life (all twelve months of it! thanks, amnesia) with a lot of questions about magic. But maybe this guy is right. It's not worth getting a headache over. With a grunt, he nods.]
Okay. Maybe you do make a certain amount of sense. But I'm not falling for the briefcase thing. I wasn't born yesterday.
no subject
[He has a lot of issues with it, honestly. The changes and having to relearn magic. It's honestly very frustrating. But he'll at least take having magic still versus not having it at all.]
I never implied you were born yesterday, but I fail to see what that has to do with me transporting my creatures with me during my travels. Undetectable expansion charms are implemented by many witches and wizards back home.
no subject
Undetectable expansion charms. Yeah, I still don't believe you. Where is this briefcase, anyways?
