To be fair I've never heard of any other detectives having fans. That's pretty... niche. I mean aside from Sherlock Holmes I guess, so you must have done something pretty impressive to have that kind of wide appeal.

So have I. It does make people think you're very reckless though.

Well. Perhaps I am but... I don't really have the patience to wait sometimes.

He acquiesces. He doesn't have quite the heart to tell her that he's really not all that great at understanding anyone or trying to let himself be understood, but hey. It's his business.

"I wonder about that." His ears droop a little, folding in a matter that might be seen as disappointed or pensive. "Wouldn't it be better if there were fewer of us? Or only one?"

It'd be better to suffer alone than with like kind, he reasons.

Sherlock Holmes is one of the few, yes. Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, both from Agatha Christie books, are also popular. Most popular fictional detectives are Western detectives, though some Eastern ones have gained popularity worldwide in recent years. Kogoro Akechi and Manabu Yukawa are two popular characters off the top of my head. I don't think anyone is as famous as Sherlock Holmes, though.

That said, I don't really think I did anything special. I solved a few difficult cases but I'm not sure that's really my main appeal when most of my fans were teenage women.

Mm... not so much an alien destroying things. Just humans being... curious.

I thought that went without saying. Magic-- especially the kind we're dealing with-- is never that simple. When you're transporting people or objects, or changing their makeup, it's complicated. I don't even know how they managed it on my world.
