[Open] July quests
Who: Fang and Open!
When: Any time between 7/3-7/13
Where: Aristocratic district, and outside the city
What: Quests: Pickpockets, and Cartography/Lucky Ingredients (stellar bear hunting)
Warnings: none yet
I. Thick as Thieves - Aristocratic District
["They're not human," the ad had said. If it weren't for the constant snowfall plaguing the district, the mystery thieves might have been easy to catch. Hell, they might still be. They're so amateur it hurts.]
[Fang hadn't expected to be loitering around, shoveling snow off the walkways for a bunch of stuck-up pricks, but sometimes, the snowfall wasn't heavy enough and some careless footprints needed erasing. Hope you weren't investigating that trail.]
[Or maybe you did question one of the pranksters, but they insisted it couldn't be them. How could it be? The monster lady had been showing him and his friends a mirrorbound-world game. Or they were in a snow fight, just ask the monster lady that got caught in the cross-fire. Or—]
[You get the idea. They were conveniently around the "monster lady" at the time of the crime.]
II. Multi-tasking
Ooh, I was hopin' we'd see one of these.
[Fang keeps her voice low, but doesn't bother masking the excitement in it. She crouches largely behind a fallen log, looking down at a clearing below the ridge she's on.]
[A stellar bear forages below—a long, lean creature with glowing dots tracing the constellations of this new world along its hide. The creature looked deceptively small, on all fours like that; maybe no taller than a wolf. The wildlife of Gran Pulse, the behemoths in particular, taught Fang not to underestimate it. Its limbs might be lanky, but they hid power beneath the shaggy coat, and when it stood up, it'd probably dwarf a person.]
There's some real claws on that thing. We should give it a go, while Melv's busy mappin' that last part.

[Granted, she'd been l'Cie then, but... she held her own when she was human, too. Details. Besides, Justine didn't look at all like a fighter. Fang felt better, with her hanging back.]
I don't know what kind've tricks you've got, but I trust you'll know what to do.

[She doesn't have the sort of combat experience that Fang does but she has tenacity and she wants to give it ago. Justine runs a finger over a rune that adorns her abdomen. It glows briefly and then all sounds from her shifting seem to vanish as she moves out of Fang's path.]
Ready.
[Her words are muted but audible as Justine readies another spell, this one centered around the piece of cloth that she's begun to wrap around her palm.]

[But she wastes no time, giving a satisfied nod before slipping over the ridge with hardly a whisper of sound. Fang wasn't familiar with bears; they resembled something she knew back in her homeland, but 'resembles' wasn't something Fang wanted to bet her life on.]
[Instead of risking a leaping shot at the back of the bear's neck moving about and foraging as it was, Fang sweeps in low, driving her lance into the knee of the beast's back leg as hard as she could.]
[The creature predictably roars and thrashes a paw backwards. Fang leaps back, but not without giving her spear a vicious twist in the joint to hobble the bear. It needed that back leg to fully utilize its reach and power, and this way, would be much safer.]
[[[Very sorry! This got buried!]]]

Ignis.
[The cloth around her knuckles glows and flares. Fire erupts in front of the bears face but also around the cloth in her hand, causing it to flash brightly and then fall into a pile of ash at her feet.
Justine is hoping that the bear is too blind and injured to have noticed her assistance.]
