MASQUERADE: Noveur 7

WELCOME TO THE MASQUERADE

I. Arrival

The event starts early evening, Noveur 7, thanks to the help of several hands. They had worked for a couple of days prior to the start to get the large ballroom decorated to everyone's liking. The day of the event, earlier on, a few may have appeared to do some final touches. Those who had stayed behind to help with some last minute decorating, Louis had cleared out and advised to leave so that they could get ready for the masquerade.

a. Outside

When you approach, you will find that the outside of the building is a perfect location for a masquerade. There's a large ballroom, granted to them for use by the Coven. They had been kind enough to allow them to have the space and necessary supplies in order to throw such a party. And, it's clear that they took every advantage of the granted space and land around them.

There's a gorgeous, outdoor fountain, and lights underneath the water to give it a pleasant, warm glow through the water. If you watch it long enough, the lights seem to shift colors. There's gardens surrounding the building, as well. The gardens, like the fountain, have low, warm lighting around them so that the plant-life will be clear well into the late night.

There's benches outside as well, with a clear view of the fountain - so if someone needs to step outside or take a break from the indoor events, they can enjoy the fresh air and the warm, calming feeling from the fountain and gardens. This is a perfect place to escape when you want to relax away from the bustle of a party.

b. Inside

The entryway has open curtains, gold - and tied back with a burgundy rope. There to make everyone feel as though stepping inside, they are making an entrance of their own. Once you step inside, you'll notice the grand ballroom with high ceilings is fully decorated. It is clear that a lot of effort and time went into this, thanks to the help of many different people and several sets of hands. The colors that seem to be continually present are gold, reds, and purples. Though from time to time there may be splashes of other colors and personal touches from those who had helped in places - mostly in the form of masks hanging on the walls, or balloons scattered in places away from the main dance floor.

From the main ballroom entrance, straight ahead, is the main dance floor and to the right - refreshments. Near the refreshments, there are a several standing tables to set down a drink or stand around to socialize with friends or people you've just met. In addition to the standing tables, there's a couple of dining tables and chairs so that you can sit and eat, drink, or chat.

Inside the main ballroom there's a few gaming tables scattered around - including card games with some dealers around where you can gamble, and pool tables. Make a wager or play for fun, it's all up to you. Additionally, on the floor Kaito will be performing magic tricks to entertain individuals and small groups throughout the floor. You'll be able to catch him periodically through the night.

There are a few hallways leading to several rooms, and it all depends on what you're looking for, but no matter what it is, you can probably find it.

One of the rooms has the silent auction. Here, you can look at some of the things that are up for bidding. There's several interesting, enchanted items including: weapons, jewelry, books, instruments. They are protected, as well, so they can only go home with the winner.

Don't worry - there's signs posted everywhere so you will be able to find what you're looking for.

c. Enchanted Masks

You're welcome to have brought a mask that you had picked out for yourself, or - if you prefer, you can pick up an enchanted mask near the entrance of the party itself. These enchanted masks will conceal all distinguishing features, whether they are as simple as horns and scales, or as large as a set of wings. The only obvious features will be what a character is wearing, whether it is their attire, mask, or both.

You aren't obligated to wear them, of course, but they do provide the total anonymity that is often part of the excitement at a masquerade such as this. These effects are only present when one is wearing the mask. The moment the mask is off, any distinguishing features are immediately visible.

It's a perfect opportunity to have a little fun and engage with someone you may not have spoken with otherwise.

This enchantment will wear off the next day at sunrise, so you may keep the mask you pick out for yourself at the party.

d. Photobooth

Near the front of the ballroom there's a neat looking photobooth set up thanks to the work of both Omi and Prompto. There's props so you can take fun or silly pictures with your friends or date for the night. The backdrop for the photobooth is magical, of course. With a quick flip the background can be changed to one you desire whether it's a different color, an entirely new environment. The photobooth will be available through the night.

Additionally, you'll be able to find Omi on the floor catching candid photos of the attendees. Smile!

II. Refreshments

Away from the dance floor are several tables with matching, deep purple, table cloths. On top of the table are a variety of foods - some brought by the attendees, others brought in thanks to the aid of the coven. You can expect to find at least something that you'll absolutely love when exploring the options. There's everything there - from healthier options like fruits, vegetables, and dip - to less healthy options such as cupcakes, and truffles. Food on sticks, and easy finger foods seem to be a very popular options.

While many of the options wouldn't even require a plate, there are some plates and utensils in shades of blue and gold available to use.

Next to the food there is a table featuring three punch bowls with three different flavors. One seems to be a fruit punch, one seems be purely berry flavored, and one - seems to be a bit of a surprise. It tastes a little bit different to everyone who tries it, but so far - there have been no complaints. Next to them, if you would prefer, there's pitchers of water.

Near the back corner, there's a bar with a bartender, there to serve those who would like a drink. Ask for a surprise, or your favorite drink, and you can have something mixed for you. Next to the bar, there are rows of the most popular bottles of alcohol. Though you won't be stopped if you take one, please tell the bartender so that they can keep their stock replenished for the other guests.

Drinks, of course, come free to those who are able to legally drink. Anyone underage will be met with a powerful enchantment that is acting as a method of preventing that from happening.

III. Dance

a. The Lock Box

Maybe you want to find a new dance partner. Maybe you want to find a new Bond. Maybe you just want to talk to someone new. The Lock Box is near the entrance of the ballroom. It's inaccessible thanks to both a lock and enchantment that are on it.

It's set up neatly on a table, with only it, paper, and a pen so that names can be written and added to the box. When you enter your name, another name will be produced from the box. It is clearly enchanted, of course. Once you're given a name, you and your new dance partner will be compelled to be near one another. This will last for about the length of a song - long enough to dance, or have a conversation.

Usually, only others who have put their names in the box will have their name drawn, but sometimes those who didn't put their name in the box will have their name drawn and will feel compelled to seek out someone who drew their name.

Sorry to those who didn't volunteer, magic isn't always the most predictable! Though you may get lucky and just find your next friend or Bond, so it's hard to get mad about it.

b. Song & Dance

Whether you picked your dance partner yourself, or were compelled to dance with your partner thanks to the Lock Box, the dance floor is ready for you. The music is enchanted, to provide a feeling of calm, relaxation, and joy. Characters will feel at ease, and even those who may not typically dance will want to get out on the dance floor.

Thanks to the talents of several Mirrorbound and collected records you'll have a variety of music all through the night. While much of it is upbeat, as it is encouraging individuals to dance. Whatever your mood, you will find a song that you'd love to dance to, as long as you want to dance.

IV. Gaming

Throughout the venue, there are a variety of gaming tables. There's poker tables with a dealer available so that you can play a game, place a bet - maybe you'll lose some cunes, maybe you'll win big. That's all up to how good you play the game. Note: Dealers (and the party host) are not responsible for any losses that occur when gambling. Play responsibly (or not).

There's also some pool tables available to those who wish to play. These table are open to anyone, and they are free to play. There's only a couple of tables available; however, they are scattered throughout the venue.

Set up near the bar are three long tables with only an array of cups and a printed set of rules for a game that some may recognize as none other than something very closely to beer pong. In place of the ping-pong balls there's a small, plastic coin that is used. Have fun drinking with friends while playing a game. What's not to love?

Are you looking to play a game in a quieter space? Down one of the hallways there's a couple of game rooms where you can not only find decks of cards and a pool table, but also a variety of popular party games such as charades. You'll also be able to find a room for those who want to settle in for a game of chess or checkers.

V. Late Night

The lights dim, just a bit more as it starts to turn into a late night, though there doesn't seem to be any sign that the party is ending. Small, glowing trinkets are brought out when the party seems like it should otherwise be dying down. These trinkets are - of course, to your taste, whether it's a bracelet, a ring, a necklace, or just simple something small that almost resembles a wand. This will glow up to a month, so you should like what you pick: whether it is for for you or is to act as a gift for someone of your choosing.

The music is meant now to entice you to go a little wilder than they may have been earlier in the evening. Most of the food has been replaced and only small, quick snacks have been brought out for those who were still wanting something a bit to eat. Alcohol is still readily available to each and every person who is able to legally drink, of course.

You're welcome to - quite literally - dance until the sun rises or until you just can't stay awake any longer.

Please assume all characters received fliers this year, and anyone who would have wanted to work would have had the opportunity to help setup. As there are a variety of performers through the night, I did not note any specific ones and will leave that up to the performers discretion.

[ It's his event, so he can be found near the entryway, unmasked so he can be recognized, periodically through the earliest parts of the night. He'll be dressed quite nice - in an outfit featuring black and gold with a lot of small details throughout it. He'll be here early on in case anyone has any questions, there's concerns, and to make sure there's no one here who's going to cause some trouble for him. It's a suitable distraction for all of his recent woes. So - if he sees someone who might seem like they're a little lost, he'll approach offering his right hand (it's gloved, of course, to complete the look) to the newcomer: ]

[ That's what he's there at the entrance for, after all. He wants to make sure everyone is having a good time at the start of the party, or can find the part of the party they're most interested in. ]

b. a dance

[ Whether it's the luck of the Lockbox or because Louis sees you haven't danced for a few songs, Louis is approaching (he can be with his enchanted mask or not, dealer's choice). It's a dance, after all, and he's not going to let anyone get away with standing around too long. He like the beat of the music, so without hesitation he'll ask. ]

c. one shot, two shot --

[ What's a party without some refreshments? Well, it's not much of a party. Louis can be found near refreshments periodically through the night. If he's found by the food, he'll be snacking on one of the various pieces of finger food. Most often - he can be spotted with a piece of celery (his favorite) in hand while he chomps on it. Though, when he swallows - if someone is nearby, he'll point to a gorgeous looking canapé and nod: ]

[ Later on in the night he'll linger near the bar, ordering a drink for himself. His first drink he gets in the night is lighter on alcohol, but the further into the night, he'll get slightly harder drinks. When he spots a guest approach, he'll take a couple steps towards them and offer a small smile and a nod towards the bar. ]

How about a drink? On me, of course.

[ It's a joke, see. They're all free anyway. ]

d. take a break

[ Somewhere in the middle of the night, Louis realizes that he needs to take a breather outside, have a smoke, and sit and enjoy the shifting of colors in the fountain outside. He's propped himself on a nearby bench, taken off his coat and set his mask to the side. He fumbles through his pockets and finds a cigarette and lights it with a small, magical flame. He likes the quiet and the cool air out here compared to the warm, vibrant party inside. Sometimes you just need a break.

He hears someone approach and he scoots over on the bench to make some room for whoever it is. He tilts his head to glance at them. ]

[ Tsutha's mask is enchanted-- it's nice to avoid the constant stares she's received ever since her arrival, just for being green and having tusks-- and so is that of the man walking up to ask her to dance. Of course, Tsutha has no way of knowing who he is, but she's been eyeing the dance floor for a while now, dreamy-eyed as she watches pairs of beautifully dressed people sway and twirl their way across it. It's like nothing she's ever seen before, and she's the closest she's ever been to a fairytale, she thinks.

She's surprised by the invitation, but pleased. She gives a little curtsy, in an imitation of politesse. Her voice is gruff, but warm, as she smiles back to her new partner. ]

I'd be glad to. [ As she gathers up the train of her dress, she thinks to add one small addendum. ] ...But I'll warn you, I don't know any of the moves.

01 - The Party Don't Start 'Til I Walk In

[ Having attired himself appropriately in a set of black and gold robes with a matching golden mask, Jin Zixuan makes his way to the party. He's taken to traveling by air, ever since his wings grew in fully, rather than by renting a carriage or some other such conveyance, and so he makes something of an entrance, swooping down from the sky in a whirlwind of fabric and feathers. The venue looks impressive enough-- a different aesthetic than the gatherings he used to attend at Carp Tower, but impressive all the same.

He takes the time to pause for photos at the entrance-- having only recently discovered photography at his brother in law's wedding some months back, he's become rather enamored by the concept. He doesn't choose any frivolous backgrounds or poses, but rather attempts to capture the stately air of his attire on film, for posterity.

That done, he proceeds inside and sets himself to mingling, grabbing some refreshments from the tables and chasing them down with a liberal glass of wine. He watches the dance floor with a careful, criticizing eye, not sure how to interact with it, or even if he wants to. He's certainly never danced before, and he doesn't see why he should have to start now. ]

02 - Idle Gossip Is The Henchman of Rumor and Scandal (closed to Jin Guangyao)

As the night goes on, Jin Zixuan graduates from a glass or two of wine, to taking a full bottle all to himself, to finally switching to heavier and more potent liquors. The debaucherous air of his surroundings cause him to be looser with his demeanor, and eventually with his tongue.

It can be hard to find a particular person in the crowd, when so many people are wearing enchanted masks that hide all identifying features. Finally, though, Jin Zixuan spots what he was looking for-- a long, coiling snake body trailing behind a smallish man with a familiar face. "A-Yao!" Jin Zixuan calls out, perhaps too loud for the smaller room they find themselves in. Then, realizing his misstep, he lowers his voice and tries again.

"A-Yao, there you are! I've been looking for you. I have--" He pauses, clasps a hand on his half-brother's shoulder, tries to steady himself against the rush of dizziness threatening to overtake him.

"I have something I want to tell you. --Need to tell you!"

03 - Don't Drink and Fly, Kids

[ The night can't go on forever, and after the shit show that is his conversation with his half brother, Jin Zixuan thinks perhaps it is time he returns himself home and goes to bed. He has an ever increasing desire to be back in his nest, bundled up comfortably with his wife, sleeping away the rest of the night (and some portion of the following morning as well). He probably oughtn't return home in the same way as he came-- which is to say, by air-- but as always he is confident in his ability to perform to the highest of standards.

Perhaps a bit overconfident, as it turns out. Rather than flying a straight course home, he meanders and zig zags throughout the sky, crashing into walls and roofs and even into an open window at one point! Drunk and disoriented as he is, he may not even recognize right away that the window he's barged through isn't the window of his house, and attempt to make himself at home wherever he ends up.

Won't you please look after this poor, drunk bird? ]

04 - Wildcard

[ Will match prose or brackets! Feel free to find Jin Zixuan at any point in the night, either with or without his mask on, to conceal his identity, and at varying levels of intoxication. 02: Here. We. Go.

Though Jin Guangyao had no intention of becoming inebriated, but he was definitely feeling the effects. Did someone spike his drink? And of course everyone at this gathering is conveniently masked, with the enchantment on them making the list of potential culprits just about anyone. His own had gotten misplaced, too... somewhere along the line.

Swaying unsteadily as his brother caught his shoulder, he goes to catch a handful of Jin Zixuan's robes as well, though appears to hesitate in restraint -- though in reality it's more like restraining himself from recoiling at the tufts of feathers and birdlike claws. It's really quite horrific, in the monstrous part of his mind, to be accosted like that by a bird.

But he isn't an animal, he reminds himself, and tries his best to maintain a pleasing demeanour though his gaze is slightly unfocussed and true feelings not so delighted. "Zixuan. What a pleasant surprise to see you here. Let's... yes, I should speak with you as well. Why don't we go outside for a walk?"

He'd omitted a fair bit the last time they spoke. If others were going to insist that Jin Zixuan deserved to hear the truth, with the possibility of even worse accusations being laid against him otherwise, maybe there really was no choice once more but to say a few additional things.

( Steak is a recognisable figure, even with the mask on. Having chosen his own — a striking gold number with edges flaring out like tongues of fire — he’s devoid of the enchantments which would hide his striking red hair, or his obvious horns. The red shirt which sits under a velvet-flocked black waistcoat hasn’t been fully buttoned up, either, exposing a sliver of bare skin as he leans his elbows onto the counter of the bar, waiting for the bartender to finish serving the people in front of him.

Red eyes peer out from behind the gold, scanning the party beyond the bar as he waits. Some people hide behind complete anonymity, but not everyone, and it’s almost a game to see who he can pick out, a test to his own recollections of acquaintances and friends.

Unfortunately, games with yourself don’t usually result in victories, or prizes, and the novelty wears off just as the bartender grabs his attention.

( Let me surprise you. A strange offer, to be sure, but it’s something different, and that in and of itself is enough to pique Steak’s interest, brows raising behind his mask. )

( The masquerade is as popular as he remembers it being last time, and with so much to do, it’s easy to be spoiled for choice. After flitting from one part of the party to the next, Steak eventually finds himself outside, inhaling the night’s air and tugging off his mask, fingers rubbing against the spots on his horns where the spikes of the mask had pressed against them.

It’s a beautiful garden, one he’s already fond of, having spent more than his fair share of time here last year. It reminds him of the gardens of the castles and manors back in his home kingdom, of Madam’s own garden and first meetings, countless arguments and simpler times. Times before the rest of Tierra became their home, wandering aimlessly and going from one task to the next.

Times eons before transformations into monsters, or magic, or anything else.

A flower whose name escapes him stops him in his tracks, petals dark and rich in the low light, its shape familiar to some ancient part of his memory. His fingers slip against its stem and pull it closer, tugging it away from the rest of the plant before he slips it into the lapel of his waistcoat. )

( Well, the pool tables are here because of him, it’s only natural that Steak should, eventually, challenge a person or two to a game. A simple wager, nothing untoward behind it.

And, soon enough, he’s leaning against a pool cue, waiting for the next confrontation, watching anyone who lingers nearby long enough. )

( He doesn’t want to dance, but what you (don’t) want to do isn’t necessarily what you’re (not) gonna do. Perhaps someone decides the horned guy sipping a drink while watching others dance is their perfect dance partner. Perhaps they’re just distracted by the sliver of visible chest from his half open shirt. Or maybe the lock box is playing compulsions again, causing havoc Steak isn’t prepared for.

Whatever the case, if you’ve decided to approach him, those red eyes are boring through the holes in his mask, trained directly on you, whoever you may be. )

( The dancefloor is packed, enough that Steak has trouble getting out of it without some major winding past others. But as the music dies down, a second’s pause before something more upbeat begins, relief sags over him as he manages to escape it. That’s quite enough of that, thank you. He’d much rather reach for a drink and one of the game tables, which is where his plan is going until the beer pong tables happen.

Because this is something entirely different, and the smell of beer is potent, enough to stop him in his tracks and watch what’s going on for a minute or two. )

[Connor is wearing a much simpler mask than last time, with a much more revealing outfit too. The enchantment hides his scales and gills, the lights shining off the jewellery he's adorned himself with. Various pieces of netting are draped over the skirt, to give a more salvaged underwater look to the ensemble. His feet are bare, but he's wearing gold anklets too.]

1B - Bidding;

[Connor is thoroughly interested in bidding for a dagger, encrusted with jewels on the hilt. He maybe spends a bit too much money on it... but once he's won it, he can be found admiring it in true Merrow fashion in the corner of the room. The lights shine off it in a way that suggest it's been enchanted simply to look pretty, and nothing more- but Connor thinks it could be a decent weapon, too.

Mostly, he just likes how pretty it is...]

3A - Lock Box;

[Connor slips his name into the box and takes the one he's given, before looking around for his new partner. When he feels a strong urge to be around someone, he smiles and addresses them.]

I think I've picked your name from the box. Would you mind a chat?

4 - Playing Pool;

[Connor has never played this game before. That said, he doesn't mind learning. It looks like a simple game of calculating angles and trajectory... he might have an unfair advantage here. If approached for a game, he thinks on it for a moment.]

[See, the thing is, no one told Hank that they were supposed to dress sexy. He had one of his suits (that were starting to pile up now, honestly), a fancy mask, his hair tied in a ponytail and had called it a day.]

[ This time around, the prospect of anonymity doesn't appeal to Akechi. Though he still wears a mask (elegantly rendered in the style of a crow, of course) he's decided to pocket the enchanted alternative given to him earlier. Parties are for networking, which means he wants to keep the prospect of being recognized later on the table.

So he commits himself to enjoying the evening, moving about from station to station, making conversation, and generally being a perfectly content party goer. He's not making a scene or anything like that, but it's easy to run into him all the same. ]

[ But just because Akechi's trying a little bit of everything, that doesn't mean certain things don't grab his interest more than others, and this party has two different games available that appeal to him in particular.

The first is chess. It's been a while since Akechi's had a steady partner to play against, and the prospect of finding one here is terribly appealing. He can be found in the game room on and off throughout the night. In fact, anyone who goes looking for him will have the most luck locating him here.

The second game to grab his attention is pool. The comparatively limited number of tables means Akechi is a little better about not monopolizing the ones offered, but even when he passes his cue to the next player he tends to step back to watch the next match rather than leave entirely. If chess opponents have been rare, then pool opponents have been nearly non-existent. He's a little more interested in sticking around this time.

But no matter what he's playing, and no matter who approaches, his greeting is the same: a friendly smile and a simple invitation. ]

Fortunately, he's been dragged into (at least) one dance already, so he knows how this works. When he feels himself suddenly drawn in a particular direction, and then sees someone else making an intent beeline towards him, he knows that he's not getting out of this without a few minutes on the dance floor first. Truthfully, it's pretty annoying.

No one would know that from the charming smile he offers, however, nor from the mild tone his speaks in when he addresses his new partner. ]

[ Akechi is, naturally, one of the first people that Sylvia seeks out when she arrives at the masquerade. She doesn't go out of her way to look for anyone; rather, she keeps her eyes peeled for familiar faces. She fits in with her long blue dress and star-themed mask so she may be a little harder to spot, but she's not anonymous and soon enough she finds the person she'd been looking for.

Despite the prior awkwardness between them, she's still happy he's here, and she waves over to him as she approaches the refreshments area. She's trying to keep her cool and make sure things are as normal as possible with them, so she puts on her best smile -- and it's largely genuine aside from that bit of nervousness. ]

[his black robes are pretty typical for him, though they may have a little more red trim than usual. wei wuxian's first thought upon choosing a mask is how perfect an opportunity for playing a few pranks this night is giving him - except his eventual choice of a black rabbit mask seems something of a dead giveaway for a puca but...who knows? a much simpler one once concealed his identity just fine. (sort of.)

he spends much of his night on the outskirts of the ballroom, though still not exactly a wallflower. if he spots someone who seems alone or pining after someone else, he'll slide right into their space and place a friendly arm around their shoulders.]

Ay, ay. Either ask them to dance or come get a drink with me. The price is right tonight.

[eventually he needs a break from it all, no longer the wei wuxian who can spend all night at the center of a party. it's especially true with the weirdness of his life over the past few days, the lingering concerns.

he stops near the fountains with his mask off and a full bottle of alcohol in one hand - seems like he doesn't plan on going back inside for a while. he is strangely subdued now, but still easily approachable with a smile on his lips. the fountain is beautiful with the soft light underneath it, and he obviously appreciates it.]

[With or without the aid of enchantments, the two of them are strangers but Diarmuid's laugh is no less bright for it when he finds Wei Wuxian's arm around his shoulders. Beneath the teal and bronze leaves that make up his own half-mask, his eyes are creased in a smile.

He steps away but only so that he can give him an elegant, courtly bow.]

Are those my only options? [As he straightens up, the Lancer brushes his cloak back over his shoulders and extends a hand towards him.] What if I were to ask you to dance instead, Sir Rabbit?

[Confident as he sounds, it's actually fairly new to him to be so outgoing at these kinds of events. For all his knightly manners, his past life hadn't really afforded him the luxury of putting them into practice without uncomfortable consequences.]

i. a little party

[ nami, in her typical fashion of not conforming to expectations, does dress up but forgoes the mask entirely... well, almost. but for the most part, it's hidden in her purse. ]

( a. ) [ about halfway through the evening, she decides to step outside for some air, and finds her way to the fountain. there she sits, at its side, and mutters a spell that seems to... do absolutely nothing, except then the surface of the water shimmers, then swirls, and finally little fish, water-clear, jump out of the fountain. they swim through the air before the spell wears out and they explode into droplets, falling on top of her... and anyone unsuspecting who is sitting nearby. ]

Oops, sorry! [ she's laughing, though, water droplets in her hair and on her cheeks, and doesn't seem to be all that sorry. ]

( b. ) [ the changing backgrounds in the photobooth are fascinating, and nami spends a lot of time going through them, changing it from one to another and then yet another. ]

Hmm, no, beach isn't good, maybe something else... oh, a castle! Ehh, maybe not. It's too fancy. [ then, changing it again, she turns to whoever happens to be within earshot, ] What do you think of this one? Does it clash with my dress?

ii. they got drinks in their hands

[ of course, nami drinks liberally; with her tolerance, why wouldn't she? there's no danger of getting too drunk, as long as she keeps pauses in the middle and eats something. but speaking of eating — ]

Hey, you have to try that! [ pointing at a dish that looks absolutely divine in the middle of the table, nami grabs the arm of anyone nearby and gestures enthusiastically. ] It's made by the most talented cook in the world! So you definitely won't be disappointed! [ since her captain isn't here to sing the praises of their crew's cook... someone's got to do it! ]

iii. so we gon' dance until we drop

[ she's certainly not one you need to force to the dancefloor — instead, nami twirls through it with apparent delight, making up moves to suit the music, sometimes fluid and graceful, sometimes bouncing up and down with the beat.

during one of these songs, she's so focused on dancing that she bumps into someone — perhaps a fellow dancer, or someone simply trying to cross to the other side of the room. in any case, she grins at them easily and says, ]

Oh, great! Dance with me! [ she's already reaching for her poor victim, so better get those excuses ready if you're not here to dance... ]

iv. hope you can keep up, boy

[ the only time nami actually dons her mask is during the games... and the reason for it becomes apparent with the way she moves from game to game, betting high every time, and somehow leaving with excellent wins. she acts like she's aiming for an oscar, bluffs outrageously, but if she cheats... well, at least no one can catch her at it.

once she's done enough damage, she collects her winnings... and upon seeing someone watching her, she winks.

depending on if it's someone she knows, she may remove her mask; if it's a stranger, it stays on. for now. ]

[ The deadpan tone might be serious, or Vex may in fact be kidding. Behind the Moon Twin mask, its rather difficult to tell. But she does at least stop as she realises she knows the voice, and a smile is then offered as she moves closer, skirts swirling around her. ]

[She didn't have much in the way of smart clothes. She had a few skirts and dresses she'd picked up over the summer months, but there was a chill in the air. It was time to go back to her old standby, trousers and a plain white shirt with some suspenders. Yes, that was smart, smart and warm. Especially with the little woolen cape to cover up the hole her wings poked out of.

And a little later into the evening her mask was obtained]

It's all fun and games - ...Gaming
[Even with her mask and her attempt at dressing up for this event, she didn't partake in the dancing. Too nervous for that(for now). She'd never been to a party like this. Her short conversation with the deerman had left her woefully unprepared.

So for a good hour at least, she was a wallflower. Hovering at the edges of the party, watching. The game, she thought she understood it. Use a stick to knock a white ball into over balls, so they fell into a net. It seemed simple enough. A lot easier than poker... She'd stood watching the poker game for a good while, mouth pressed into a thin line as she tried to keep up. Then she'd given up.

At the start of the next game, she took the offered stick. Mikasa didn't know who she was playing against, but that was normal for this party wasn't it? And lining up the shot-

Nightlights - Outside late night
[If asked later on, not that she'd be recognised with the mask enough to ask, Mikasa wouldn't be able to tell anyone why she'd stayed as long as she had. It was just... Something in the air. The sounds, the mood, she could tell there was magic in the music but it was intoxicating enough that the fae couldn't bring her self to worry. Though it had gotten too loud for her.

With a pretty bright blue braclet that had been slapped on her wrist, the fae had retreated. Going outside and returning to where the fountain was. She didn't dunk herself in like she had done a few month back, retaining enough sense to know that was a bad idea. But she still shedded her boots and rolled up her trousers so she could flit about. Wings sending flecks of water and glitter everywhere.

It was probably a bad idea to sit on the edge of the fountain. Because the fae just flung her body into anyone balanced on the edge, bunting them in or out of the shallow water.]

OUTSIDE RIP

[Well, then. As Yuki has been hiding outside most of the night, he's now summarily knocked into the fountain. Fortunately the whole thing's almost over, or he's be more pissed that he just started changing colors to an odd ruddy shade as he sits in the water.]

...You're lucky I'm used to water.

An Escape

Saber isn't used to parties. Even in her own kingdom, she tended to observe more than participate and it's only been with a bit of prodding that she's decided to come to this one. It seems harmless enough - something to distract herself, to see friends, to re-acclimate. And possibly settle down from her experience earlier in the month beyond the city walls. Despite some misgivings, she's also decided to go with something a little more feminine - although that's easier in general because of the wings. A backless dress in a dark blue which gives her wings room to move and settle and shows off the ruff of feathers that cover her throat and shoulders, along with long, white gloves that reach to her elbow.

It feels a bit strange honestly.

A mask completes the look, in a matching dark blue, edged in gold, and with brighter blue feather 'ears' on either side. It's fancier than almost anything else she's worn since she arrived, but it pays to work for (and be friends with) someone who runs a clothing store.

She's taking a bit of break from being indoors, getting away from all of the people inside. She's settled on a bench, just beyond the light and noise that spills out, wings folded up against her back, gaze distant as she peers out into the evening sky. She starts slightly as she hears someone approach and she glances over, starting to stand.

"...I was just starting to move on," she explains, as if worried she might be imposing.

Refreshments

The food table seems to be one of the few places where she doesn't feel quite as out of place. She can be found there thoroughly enjoying herself as she tries a little bit of everything. She's navigating away with a plate packed perilously high and she has to carefully navigate herself (and her food) around everyone. She sways slightly as she has to stop suddenly.

This might be a disaster in the making.

Lock Box

The Lock Box intrigues her. For a long moment she stares at the whole setup, not quite if she'd like to actually try. Then, with a touch of reluctance, she scribbles her name down and slides it into the box and waits expectantly for a result. She doesn't know who she'll end up with, but... it can't be that bad, can it? She might as well see if she can enjoy herself. Just a little.

She reaches out as the box spits out another name at her and she peers at it for a long moment.

An escape

Parties like this one are more common to Allura than most of her experiences thus far on Aefenglom. And with a dress she commissioned to emulate the fashion of her home world, done up in blues and golds, it feels even more like revisiting the life she left behind so, so long ago.

But parties on Altea didn't usually get so rowdy (at least, not where the crown princess was concerned) and it's late in the night that Allura seeks a bit of fresh air out by the fountain. And spots a familiar face in the meantime.

"Saber?" She leans forward and circles around to peer at Saber's face. It's been some time since she's seen her, and there's been some changes since then, but Allura smiles when she confirms it is indeed her friend, "I almost didn't recognize you at first, that dress looks stunning!"

A. Arrival
[There's not much mystery behind this mask, given Allura's cloud of hair that should identify her from a mile away, and she's decided to go for a distinctly Altean style dress for the evening. There's something nostalgic about dressing up like this – a silent tribute, perhaps - aside from her bonding ceremondy with Keith, the last time had been tens of thousands of years ago, during a life that was much different from the one she knew now. Although the fancy décor was definitely stirring some memories of her childhood.

Before everything starts, as people are filtering, Allura is lingering near the fountain. She sits on the edge of the fountain, holding a flower she'd picked from the garden, fiddling with it's stem while she waits, enjoying the cool night air and watching the last of the sunlight disappear from the sky. Keith should be arriving any time now, but she's eagerly watching the guests as they start to filter in, looking for any faces she knows behind the masks.]


B. Auction
[The silent auction doesn't catch her interest at first, she's much more invested in the dancing and food, but a certain princess has a certain weakness for sparkly things, and she finds herself leaning over the display case of a particularly fancy looking hair comb.

Maybe your character is ogling the same thing and there's going to be a bidding war, or maybe they're just passing by, but either way Allura is absolutely enamored with the sparkly bit of jewelry.]

Ohh.... it's beautiful! But, oh, [She pouts,] I can't simply buy it?


C. Dancing
I. [It's when the dancing is in full swing that Allura is really getting into the energy of the party. A couple drinks in has her feeling bubbly and if she spots someone she knows among the crowd, she'll make her way over to them, reaching out to catch their hand and giving a tug.]

Come and dance with me-!

II. [Otherwise, she has put her name in the lock box – she's been meaning to find another bond for some time, and now is as good of a time as any to make new friends. She writes her name in fancy script, folding it once before dropping it in. The name she gets back isn't one she recognizes, but there's an almost automatic pull the instant she reads it, and she catches the eye of a second party-goer still unfolding their piece of paper. Maybe it's just instinct, but she holds her hands behind her back as she approaches them, tilting her head curiously.]

Oh, excuse me. May... I see what name you have on your card? [And she produces her own, showing it to them.]


D. Late night
[A few sips of champagne turns into a few too many and as the party starts to tick over into the midnight hours, she's feeling... quite good. Not unlike the day she spent in the iunerberry fields with Keith. We haven't reached 'shoes off' level of relaxation yet, (she's too much of a fine lady for that), but her body language is a lot more languid, and she has a glowing headpiece slightly askew on top of her head as she finds an empty seat at one of the tables circling the dance floor. Her glass of wine tipping a little dangerously as she leans to address the person sitting next to it.]

Is this chair taken? [She says, her voice somehow even thicker accented than usual, a silly smile spread across her lips.] I hope not, because I don't think I can stand for a tick longer.

[ Sylvia's gone lighter on the drinking tonight due to having some plans after the masquerade, but she needs a break from all the dancing, because phew. What a night it's been.

She sees a familiar fluff of white hair approach, and a very tipsy Allura leans over to ask about the chair. Ah...just like the first time they met in the berry fields. Sylvia grins at her knowingly and shakes her head. ]

Definitely not taken, so go for it, Princess.

[ And once Allura's seated, she'll turn to her and ask: ]

Having fun, huh? Seems like you're having a great time!

Gaming Gala

Iramaat has opted to go for something flowing and almost mythical for this whole affair; it feels like the sort of place for it and it feeds into her faun appearance. She wears a dress of dark green - long-sleeved and high-collared, embroidered with gold and silver, but it also splits just at the thigh (which is, perhaps, a bit scandalous) and gives it a touch more of a loin cloth feel rather than a complete dress, but it also gives those furry, hooved legs of hers room to breath. Dark brown leather gloves and a white cravat complete the look. Her antlers are decorated (likewise) with gold (or possibly just something that looks like gold) that's been shaped into leaves and are wound about with green cord. Her mask is simple, though - it merely covers the eyes and anyone who knows her well can probably guess who she is.

She's started the night out at one of the gaming tables, playing a few hands of cards. She's examining her hand with rapt attention until she leans back slightly to snag someone passing by. She shows them her hand with a laugh, "Tell me what you think - I need a second opinion."

Dance Floor

What would a party be without dancing? Iramaat is very enthusiastic about getting out onto the dance floor, whether solo or with someone else. In fact, she's also a bit flirtatious about the whole thing. If someone catches her eye, she sidles up to them with a rather flattering invitation - and if someone asks her, she's almost guaranteed to say yes! The entire time she tends to be mischievous, active, and perfectly willing to be a good date - at least for a few minutes.

Still, don't be surprised if she asks you to dance out of the blue! She is a faun after all.

Tonight's Gonna be a Good Night

Of course, she stays until late. Until the trinkets come out and the booze is still flowing and the early birds have left. She's dancing, drinking and generally kicking up a party in the best faun (and fae) tradition. In fact, if anything she seems more energized to the point that she's likely to be found offering one of those glowing trinkets to others with a flattering smile and a wink.

"A token of my favor. You've been nothing but stunning all evening."

Whether she's actually spoken to this person before now is up to debate...

He's currently on his third (or is it his fourth?) glass of wine, and making the rounds, trying to see what each little nook and alcove of the party has to offer. So no, he doesn't recognize the woman stopping him in his path. Nor does he recognize the game she is playing, or understand what she is trying to show him. Are those cards... good?

"I think... Red and black is an awful color combination."

It reminds him a bit too much, perhaps, of a certain brother in law.

[A cat definitely needs a break from noise and crowds, so Mogget is outside more often than he's inside. He looks for all the world like an ordinary cat save for those who already know him to be anything but, or those who look a little closer and see the magical pendant dangling on his collar beside the small silver bell that chimes sleepily whenever he moves.

Sometimes he hangs around near the doors, watching people walking in and out. Sometimes he's by the fountain, watching the colours change or dipping his paw into the water in the way that any curious feline might.]

ii. inside

[He skirts around the edges of the rooms, slinks beneath tables, never putting himself in a position where he might be able to be trodden on.

One might find the cat with his head over a pitcher of water, lapping the cool liquid from inside the pitcher (hygiene, what's that?). None of the food really appeals to him, as a cat, though he does occasionally pace the tables and give the treats on offer a sniff. The bartender proves to be very useful in giving him a shotglass of milk, which he drinks without comment (or thanks).

Mogget doesn't dance, but he does observe the 'beer pong'-esque game for a while before he jumps onto the table and makes off with the plastic coin, batting it across the floor and chasing it under a table. And... was that a giggle?

[ Tsutha's had a busy evening. She's been on stage singing for much of the evening, even though most of the music that the players are playing isn't anything she's heard before; she was glad to make up a melody as she went along. Problem is, singing on stage is hard work, especially when you're dressed in a tight corset that restricts your breathing. She needs a break!

So she makes her way over to one of the refreshment tables. Funny, this one seems to have a little white cat on top of it, lapping away at a pitcher of water. Tsutha laughs. ]

Now you've got the right idea!

[ With that, she unceremoniously takes the pitcher next to the one the cat is drinking out of, and lifts it up to her mouth, pouring it into her face and drinking her fill from the side of the rim. ]

( Yazoo can't ignore the fact that his plan for the evening smacks just a little too much of desperation for his liking, but in desperate times it's only prudent to consider desperate measures. His stay in Aefenglom has now extended over a fortnight and the only brother he's managed to locate is Sephiroth — but perhaps, perhaps, there's a chance that they'll show up at the masquerade. Kadaj never could resist the lure of an audience when he wanted to make a point, and Loz? Well, the promise of free food and drink would likely be enough to get him on board.

So.

Yazoo attends.

He's outfitted for the evening in an ensemble chosen for him by a helpful salesperson, who also helped him select a mask, the latter of which he suspects won't do a great deal to conceal his identity in the long run. Still, this isn't really about joining in the festivities as a guest, and so he sweeps in through the entrance without so much as a sideward glance to his luxurious surroundings.

How he ends up in the gaming room is anybody's guess, but it's clear that he isn't particularly impressed by the dealer's jovial invitation to a game of poker. His frosty response can be overheard by anyone who happens to be loitering close to the table: )

... Why? I don't see the point.

( Strange eyes skim over the card game, nonplussed, before lifting back up to pin the dealer with a feline stare. He has his brothers to look for — playing games seems like little more than a waste of time. )

If I wanted to lose money I could just give it away.

dance • enchanted orchestra with a pinch of unwitting lock box

( The music isn't like anything Yazoo head before. It floats through the air, each note tugging gently at his sensibilities until he realises that it's having some kind of effect on him — until he realises that, for the first time in his life, Yazoo might actually want to dance too. He's spent most of the evening avoiding being swept into a throng headed towards the centre of the ballroom, but a few hours into the night sees the enchantment settled warm beneath his skin.

Yazoo glides towards the dance-floor without thinking, an easy sway in his step that ripples through the jewel-blue silk of his outfit. While it's true that he's never danced before, he's no less a study in part-feline, part-alien grace, and all thoughts of finding his brothers reduce to a barely-there simmer as the magic commits him to the music. )

Will you dance with me?

( Soothed and calm, a dreamy sort of smile touches the corners of Yazoo's lips as he comes to a halt in front of a nearby party-goer. He couldn't say what it is that's drawn him to them other than some kind of instinct that it's right — that his night won't be complete until he's spent a little time with them. )

( The enchantment wears off towards the end of the evening, and the wrinkle of anxiety Yazoo had been feeling at his brothers' absence moves to the fore again. They're not here. Admitting it is difficult — it settles uncomfortably in his chest like a jagged chip of so much ice, at which point the music, the laughter, and the fuss of the decor all becomes too much for him to stomach. He slips out silently and drifts across the grounds, grateful for the air, and eventually finds himself standing in front of the ornate fountain.

It's quieter outside, the plash of the fountain further muting the sounds of the party continuing within the ballroom. Yazoo exhales softly as he moves to seat himself on the edge of the water feature; the spray from the water throws off mist that sits like glitter in his hair, but the Remnant seems largely unbothered by the fact that he might end the night a little damp.

... Huh. He still has his glass in his hand: it's a flute of something he'd discovered was too sparkling-sweet for his tastes, but a prop that nevertheless helped him blend in with the rest of the party. Yazoo looks at it blankly for a moment, then tilts his hand to pour the contents into the water, before deciding to just get rid of it all together and drop the glass in as well.

Look, it's been a long night. Permit him a little fountain-side vandalism, please — or don't! )

[ Tsutha has spent much of the evening observing the dance floor from her position on stage, having volunteered to play horn and sing as part of the rotating band of musicians providing the night's entertainment. She can't help but be enchanted by the whole affair-- she also has never danced before. Well, no. She's danced, by herself to the music playing in her head, through shaded forest trails, hopping over jutted out roots and twirling around tree trunks. But she's never danced on a dance floor.

When her turn for a break comes around, she hops off stage, grabbing a glass of water to soothe her throat, hoping that someone will ask her to dance.

Well... She gets her wish. Just not from anyone she expects. Guess that just proves that her enchanted mask is doing its job. She freezes slightly, eyes widening behind the mask. ]

[yan bingyun has his reasons for attending - the promise of information from those who have been stuck here longer than he has. possible allies among those who feel the same way that he does about it. ...curiosity too, though it's hard to admit that one even to himself.

"pleasure" certainly isn't one of the draws, but stranger things than yan bingyun having a little fun have surely happened.

spies do have a fondness for anonymity, so he does like the enchanted masks. he chooses a rather plain silver one, puts it on and starts to "mingle". he ends up at the refreshments, tentatively sniffing something on one of the sticks before offering it to whoever his next to him.]

[it's possible that he might ask someone to dance, but mostly as a pretense. as a way of learning something from another during a short period of shared closeness, instead of a genuine desire.

fortunately the lock box has its own ways. halfway through the night yan bingyun finds himself moving with a purpose, a feeling that he rather likes. he scans the crowded ballroom until his eyes land on someone, and heads in their direction without ever looking away.]

[ Tsukuyo had only spoken to Yan Bingyun via text message that first time. That coupled with the fact that they're both wearing masks means they're certainly not going to recognise who each other is on first appearances.

She's certainly not expecting to have someone shove some chicken on a stick in her face although if she's honest with herself, she is pretty hungry. ]

I don't trust it.

Have ya had some already yourself? [ Yeah no buddy she isn't eating that without proof from somebody else that it isn't poisoned. ]

[the stars twinkle in the sky above, the gently glowing trinkets are passed out, and finally, finally it is Styx's turn to take the stage.

for ease of playing he's forgone the mask, but there's plenty to look at thanks to the striking corpse paint adorning his face instead. he's the only 'real' player of this set, the rest of the music provided by clever enchantments, but from the moment he struts out to his drums it's abundantly clear that no one else is necessary to fill up this stage.

they'd asked for wild music during the later half of the masquerade, and good fucking god did Styx deliver. anyone unfamiliar with metal would be getting a crash course throughout this hour as the giant of a man churned through song after song without so much as a hint of exhaustion. the instrument practically shook beneath him from the force of his playing, the way that he howls the lyrics into the sky reminiscent of some archaic god touched down from his thunder cloud - or a demon.

those familiar with the drummer in everyday life may very well be startled by his performance. it's a complete reversal of his typical demeanor, but no less genuine. this terrifying, unrestrained powerhouse was just as much Styx as anything else. even as he roars at the crowd, practically challenging them to overcome him in ferocity - it's all him.

if you'd care to venture backstage to talk to him following his set, he's hardly difficult to spot; head and shoulders above most of the staff, still possessing enough energy to whoop even as he chugs down some water.]

[after a smashing success like that, of course the big guy wants to celebrate! having put his jacket on now that he wasn't running the risk of overheating, he can be found in a men's version of this stunner (including...actual pants........) along with an equally "intense" mask.

right now he's over at one of the beer pong tables, having been sidetracked by the games on his way to actually grab a drink of his own. Styx is used to playing this with an actual ball rather than a coin, so when it's his turn he gives a deliberately sort toss and looks...genuinely surprised when the thing doesn't bounce.

[now he's more than a little drunk. having found himself in need of a little air to cool off, Styx has dropped himself down by the edge of the fountain to admire the colors dancing amidst the water. he distracts himself by lifting his mask on and off several times, quietly amused by the reflection changing from unrecognizable to his usual mug, before settling for trailing his fingertips in the rippling water.

if the massive man practically in danger of slipping straight over into the fountain doesn't grab one's attention straight away, then the fact that the drummer is singing again just might. it's softer tunes now, his vocals dreamy and just a little slurred. this has been such an amazing night.]

Three for three at once

[Sat by the edge of a fountain for a long time? For a bit Styx was left be by the creature that fluttered about. Dancing in and splashing about in the water. The brightly coloured bands on her arms and legs glowing.

But eventually his time of peace is over. And with more strength than something so small should have had, she's over swevering over him, then back to crash into him. Shoving him over the barrier between dry land and the fountain. Then flitting above chittering.]

i. outside

[Red Wine, who never really wanted to be at the party at all to begin with, spends most of the first hour or so following his arrival sitting in the gardens. It's a 'good' time of the month, when the aches of the last full moon have eased and the pull of the next one isn't itching at him, but the damage he's done to himself over the last several months has made him tired and sore regardless.

He sits on a bench near the fountain with the changing light playing on his ashen skin, and he isn't unaffected by that aura of calm about the place. If anyone happens to pass by him he offers them a faint, though genuine smile without speaking.]

ii. song & dance

[He doesn't go near the lockbox, remembering it from last year (though that doesn't mean his name won't be drawn from it, and he remembers that too) but once the calm outside has done its job he ventures indoors and wallflowers, watching the people dancing and listening to the music. It isn't objectionable. He would even say he enjoys it, and behind his mask and in no small measure of finery for the occasion, he feels a relative safety. It's no enchanted mask, but most people wouldn't recognise him behind it.

One small mercy of being a vampire is that there were few physical changes to go through that he needed to carry with him on a daily basis.

If someone offers a hand to him to dance, he gives them a long look of consideration.]

[He finds his way to a game room, by and by, and picks up a pack of cards from an empty table. Months of playing with the sailors and dock hands at the harbour have honed his skills at cards to a fine edge and though he hadn't gone near the manned poker tables he has no doubt about his own talent.

The vampire shuffles the deck, sitting alone in the room, and sets his mask aside to see better. When he catches the eye of someone passing, peeking inside, he lifts both eyebrows and something glints in the back of his blood-red eyes.]

Do you play? Let's have a game.

iv. late night

[He's... enjoyed it more than he would have expected to, if he's completely honest with himself (and he may be honest with himself, though with few others). Enough that he accepts one of the trinkets without complaint - a pendant, in the shape of a crescent moon with a glowing bauble nestled in its curve.

He puts it on. Leaves it nestled against the front of his shirt.

After that, he has a drink. Perhaps he'll even be the one asking you if you'd like to dance.]

[Free alcohol? He'll take it. It's something he's come to like on this world, and it's the closer he'll ever have to a high grade around here. At some point, the avatar can be found approaching the bar.]

[The speaker, a young woman with long light blue hair tied into a bun, is dressed nicely in a cyan shirt under an unbuttoned dark blue waistcoat, along with a matching non-enchanted mask to complete the look. The question could be said in a far friendlier tone, a hand places on the empty seat, waiting for permission from the other. Soundwave is trying to socialize... The party is a good opportunity to improve on that.]

Lock box/dancing

[Although he's dressed the avatar up for the event and commits to enjoy the evening, he doesn't actually partake in dancing, at least for the first few hours. More of an observer than a participant, but... magic's acting up and Soundwave didn't put his name down in the lock box. But he feels some sort of a strong pull that has him walking to a particular direction, and finds the person he's drawn to, whether they too is walking towards the avatar, or finding them standing around waiting.

When he finds them, he doesn't speak immediately. Just staring at them with vacant red eyes behind the mask for a few seconds, before the seemingly young girl speaks as she extends a hand.]

[Even without his super hearing working here, the noise and crowd inside is still overwhelming and headache-inducing to Soundwave. So, he decides to step outside near the fountain and settles on sitting on the roof of his real form alt mode, muttering himself an enchantment to a stray cat that finds itself up here, trying out a spell he's been learning.

The sight might look odd, a young woman having a seemingly one-sided conversation with a meowing cat on top of a vehicle that's clearly isn't from this world.]

[ Saber's dress and mask are a bit fancier. Apparently she went a bit all out, even if it makes her feel a little out of place. It's her first time dressing to the nines like this, at least in a more feminine presenting way! Regardless, she's been hanging around the edge of the dance-floor, nursing a glass of punch and routinely returning to the refreshment table to refill her plate when she feels a tug - both the bond and something else.

She's a little surprised to see a familiar form approach her and her lips spread in a slight smile. She lifts her skirt for a bit of a curtsy (she knows how to, even if she's more used to bowing). ]

A. A Princess Attends A Ball

[ Yona's never been to a masquerade before, but the moment she'd heard of this, she'd started planning. After weeks of dancing around more intimate topics with both her Bonded, tonight was a night she wanted to... she wasn't sure what the right word was here. Invite? Entice? Seduce? Maybe not just her Bonded, either, because such a bold step was one she'd never taken before. It was unheard of, for a person like her, back in her lands.

But she was a different person here. She was a Witch, and the thinking in this place was far different than anywhere she'd ever known. People were so much more open and honest about what they wanted. Oh, there were still games, of course, but it seemed that pursuing what - or who - one wanted was not only expected but encouraged. Something that had baffled her at first, and then filled her with a quiet sort of longing, as she debated how much she could actually dare.

A debate that had come to an end when one of the fashion designer friends she'd made over the past few months learned about her dilemma. Promising her his assistance in creating her an outfit that would state exactly what she wanted to say without a word, he bent to the task of her "unveiling" as he laughingly teased her, stepping out from the shadows, no longer a demure and shy little Princess. Although she hadn't been entirely certain about this whole thing, the moment she laid eyes on the dress he'd crafted for her, she'd fallen in love and that had been the last little push she needed. She was really doing this.

She was also a nervous wreck, certain that she was going to trip and fall or somehow make a complete spectacle of herself tonight. She'd kept everything a secret, wanting it to be a surprise, but that did little for her case of nerves as she steps up to the entrance, lurking for a moment to gather her composure. Take a deep breath.

And then she steps out fully into sight. Her slim form is draped in sheer fabrics the hues of a raging flame, the silken fabric whispering around her. It teases as much in what it doesn't show as what it does and her fingers brush against the edges of the sheer cape before she forces herself to stop fidgeting. A mask cloaks the upper half of her face - her own, meaning her features are not hidden away - in the visage of a crimson dragon. Fitting, considering who she is, but it draws out the red flames of her hair, drawn up in an ornate arrangement atop her head, held in place with a delicate hairpin of flames and scarlet blossoms.

She pauses there, feeling eyes on her, letting her own gaze take in the room and dancers around her, before taking another deep breath and lifting her chin, stepping into the ball. ]

Here goes nothing...

B. Liquid Courage

[ Although she mingles on her way, she does eventually find herself near the refreshment table. Not really hungry - the butterflies in her stomach are taking care of that - she instead drifts towards the bartender. And then, on a whim, decides she might as well go all out tonight. If she's being brave, it was time to take a few risks. So she requests a surprise.

And gets handed a strangely shaped glass with a drink so blue it nearly matches her dress. She thanks him with a smile, finding it easier to be brave behind her dragon mask, and lifts it to her lips to take a sip.

It's sweet and packs a little bit of a punch, but she finds she likes it. Apparently, this trying out her new daring side is paying off better than she expected.

But stepping out of the way for another person in line, she glances down curiously at the drink she holds. ]

I wonder what this is...?

C. Dancing The Night Away

[ Whether it's through the magical machinations of the lock box or if you were brave enough to seek her out and request a dance, Yona's not shy in accepting, watching the dancing couples at the ball with wide-eyed awe and wonder. And perhaps a little longing envy. Most of these dances are nothing like the ones she knows, but she longs to try them and should anyone pause to invite her, her entire face will light up with delight at getting to join in the fun.

Even if it occasionally comes with an apology first. ] I'd love to! But, ah... does it matter if I'm not very familiar with the steps?

D. By The Glow Of The Moon

[ There's a glowing enchantment on a ring on her finger as the lights grow dimmer and the feeling of being caught up in the late hours of the night starts to descend. She's still dancing. Occasionally she has another drink. Her inhibitions and nerves from the start of the night have definitely lessened at last as she enjoys herself thoroughly.

She's feeling daring. Adventurous. Maybe even a little reckless. Enough that she might approach others who are staying as late, others who look like they might also be caught up in the delicious abandon of the party. Some might be familiar, or they might be complete strangers to her. It doesn't seem to matter, as she shoots them a playful smile, mischief glinting in the violet eyes behind her crimson mask. ]

Surely you're not done already? Would you like to come and dance some more?

[The thing about Yona is that, while he hasn't seen her in a while, she's quite a unforgettable face. Her dress, as well, stands out to him.

It's like she's a princess walking in with the flames willingly following behind her, presenting quite a view to many who ever lays their eyes on her. Even with the mask so firmly placed on her face, he recognizes her.

(He'd be a bad Bookman if he didn't. Never mind how he couldn't even recognize Tyki in his stupid human form.)

So the moment she enters the ball, Lavi approaches her, lips tugged up into a smile as he holds his hand out to her]

Outside

[Minato had arrived in a deep blue and silver mask and dressed in a deep blue jacket and vest combination that may give certain wildcards a familiar vibe. Minato thought he was funny. Also, he happened to like how it looked. The butterfly in the mask did mean he had to style his hair a bit to keep it out of the way.

Nonetheless, he was dressed appropriately and was often found outside when he wasn't essentially DJing with a amplified record player. Between the records and the live sets, Minato had his hands full for a time, so he took the breaks in between to go outside and get some air. He usually found an empty bench or an clear spot at the fountain, hands in his pockets and his earphone clipped to his ears. Sometimes, his eyes were closed as though dozing and other times he simply people watched. If he recognized you, then you'll get a brief wave in hello or a nod, otherwise he tended to just mind his own business.]

Food (and no one is surprised)

[He wasn't Minato if he wasn't piling his plate high with food. That being said, it wasn't obnoxiously high. But it was definitely a bit of a pile that didn't seem like it would fit in his stomach. But just you watch! It will! Also, leave him be. Even if he wasn't a big eater, he kind of wanted to eat his emotions because the house went from four to two. It was just him and Louis now and it was quieter because of that. Minato was used to a rowdy home, his dormitory had been much the same. But now, it was a quiet deer and a quiet teen and their animals.

There was a sigh now, before he looked at his plate in deep contemplation. What else to add? A slice of cake stood out to him and he reached for it. He stopped when he accidentally bumped his hand against someone else's.]

Ah, sorry. Did you want that?

Pool Tables

[The pool table was set up in an Eight-Ball game, with stripes and solids. He really didn't care which one he got, but he figured it also didn't matter if he claimed one first. He lifted his drink glass to sip, resting the cue stick idly against the edge of the table for a moment before turning to set his glass down.]

[ Louis gets it, really. Coping mechanisms? He has twenty. None of them are particularly healthy, and among them is usually not eating much of anything. However, tonight he has opted to put on a good front and eat the snacks and treats that are up for the taking. He had a part in making this happen, after all. It meant he had a part in finding food that he knew not only he would like but others would, too.

Instead, he reaches for another piece of the cake and a fork for himself. ]

Tsutha had planned on just wearing her usual animal hide clothing to the masquerade, but after seeing how big a deal everyone was making of the whole thing, she went out and bought herself a fancy dress last minute. Never having worn a corset before, she's markedly uncomfortable, constantly tugging at the laces, trying to wriggle herself some more room to breathe. But, after donning an enchanted mask, she is amazed when all the odd looks and stares that her green skin and tusks usually earn her disappear, as no one can tell that she's a half-orc anymore! She begins to feel a little braver, stuffing her face with canapés, marveling over the photo booth, and helping herself to the fruitiest of drinks.

She spends most of the evening on stage, either playing her horn, or singing her lungs out. She doesn't know most of the songs that the other musicians decide to play, but she makes up for it by improvising a melody on top of it. Eventually, when it falls on her to pick the song, she calls up an old sea shanty from the Warmlands that Marzia taught her, and tries to lead a sing-along of a nice, upbeat folk tune she picked up somewhere along in her travels.

Singing in a corset can be hard, so at some point later on in the evening, Tsutha needs to call it quits and join the rest of the party on the dance floor. She comes up to the table with the lockbox, peering at it, curious. She'd love to put her name in, but not being able to write it kind of puts a damper on that wish. So, she'll just pull a slip of paper to find a dance partner that way. Of course, she also can't read the name that's written, so she'll pull someone aside to ask, "Excuse me, do you know who this is?" Maybe it's your name! Maybe not. Maybe someone else pointed you out in the crowd, and now Tsutha is coming up to you, holding the slip of paper out with a bright grin on her face.

"This is you, right? D'you wanna dance?"

Allura can't help but find herself drawn to the stage. She doesn't have much talent when it comes to the arts but she can appreciate those that does, and although she doesn't recognize Tsutha, with her enchanted mask, her energy and enthusiasm is infectious and Allura claps her hands in delight as one of the songs winds to a close.

"You sounded wonderful," She gushes - she's a little bit tipsy, but it's the overblown enthusiasm type - clasping her hands together, "I wish I could sing like that, it looks like such fun."

For Allura, she went with a normal mask, so she's easily recognizable, with her elf-like ears and big cloud of hair.

Ignis Scientia | OTA

[Ignis might be new here, but that doesn't mean he isn't going to attend a party when he could learn so much simply by being present. Of course, he did dress for the occasion, in a dark suit and a mask to finish off the ensemble.

And, of course, the food on offer would be one of the first things to draw his attention. His immediate impression is that no expense has been spared on the refreshments, and he does pick up a plate to take a few samples of what's laid out. He's half way through said plate, trying one of the dips with the end of a piece of cut vegetable, when a bright look flashes across his eyes and he snaps his fingers like it's some kind of instinct.]

That's it! [He mutters to himself, setting the plate down on the corner of a table to pull a small notebook and pencil out of the inside pocket of his jacket. Ignis jots down a couple of notes and then puts the book away as if nothing had happened, retrieving his plate.]

ii. the lock box / song & dance

[He puts his name into the box, because why not? It's all in the spirit of things, and he doesn't believe that anything bad could come out of something arranged by one of their own (while the Coven may have ulterior motives, he thinks, the Mirrorbound themselves do appear to mostly look after one another).

After that, he waits for a potential partner to come to him, but he isn't opposed to taking offers to dance in the meantime. That music is quite tempting, after all, and lifetime at court does wonders to prepare one for such things.

iii. gaming

[He finds his way to a chess board at some point in the night, a drink or two in but not nearly enough to dull his faculties just yet. In the quiet room he seats himself at one side of the board and picks up the king piece, examining it speculatively as he turns it between his fingers.

A noise by the door pulls his attention up, his sea-green eyes flashing behind his mask. He smiles.]

Do you fancy a match? You can take white.

[And he might be found around the pool tables later, curiously watching but not taking part. Not unless he's asked, at least.]

iv. late night

[The trinket he picks up is in the shape of a small star with eight points - the cardinal directions larger than the others - and he tucks it into his pocket with a small expression of amusement. After that, he picks up a few snacks and another drink (perhaps against his better judgement) and with it in hand ventures back to where people are dancing.

And he wallflowers, again, watching the people enjoying themselves with the expression of someone thinking very deeply about something.

He stays until not long past midnight, before quietly slipping out to the street and starting to head home.

[ In a flowing dress that compliments both silver scales and half-elf complexion, Vex hides her face behind a mask shaped like the Sisters, overlapping one another in silver and midnight blue. Long hair is partially braided, with the long loose locks caught up in a hair net.

A Ball is a perfect time to dress up and forget any immediate awkwardness cares and worries. Even if the source of that happens to be on your arm on arrival... ]

a. A Turn About The Ballroom
[ Upon arrival, Vex is quick to vanish into the crowd, buzzing with the energy that thrums around her as she takes a long walk to survey the ball in full. Be it the gaming tables or watching the card tricks and magical illusions, she pauses to observe others, smiling from time to time.

She's especially enamoured by the silent auction, though perhaps not the prices already bid for some: a highly suggestive looking lamp gets a wrinkled nose and a shake of her head - though whether because of the haughty neon green paint job or the high cune bidding war? Well, maybe she'll tell. If you ask! ]

b. I Could Have Danced All Night~
[ Eventually, Vex can't resist stepping out into the ballroom proper. Her name is carefully penned on a slip of enchanted paper before being dropped in the Lock Box, before she wanders back to the gathering, eagerly seeking familiar faces to tow out for a spin or three.

Or, perhaps, you meet an enchanting dame bearing one of those fine Anonymasks - silver-grey moon moth wings fan her face, sparkling with fae enchantment to glamour away her identity. As she extends a hand your way, there's a winsome wink. Surely you won't say no to her offer of a dance?]

c. Refreshment and Respite
[ Even Vex has to take time to herself eventually, stopping to pilfer something decidedly alcoholic from the array of drinks. The fountain's flow of water is soothing and cool, and there's a sigh as she sits under the moonlight and spreads out her skirts. Sometimes you just need a moment to yourself away from the crowd.

Though perhaps she won't be alone for long? ]

[Like last year, Prompto can be found hanging around the photobooth for some of the night, dressed to the nines and sometimes even wearing his mask. He's here for a quick tutorial on how to use the camera, how to change the backdrop, or even to take the photos for you!]

[At some point he steps away from the photobooth to go enjoy himself for once, and that means food. And also maybe a drink. But really he was so busy helping get the photobooth set up that he didn't eat lunch, so food.

He'll eventually get a plate of assorted goodies and a cup of...something, the bartender mixed it for him and make his way over to your table.]

i. one enchanted evening

[Karin arrives shortly after the doors are opened, wearing a dress that accommodates for her wings and tailfeathers and a mask of her own choosing— though she does, just out of curiosity's sake, accept one of the offered enchanted masks and tucks it away in her handbag in case she decides to make use of it later on. The ballroom itself is breathtaking, and she'll spend the first short while taking in the decor and eventually helping herself to food and drink. She's not shy about being social, but she does seem to be staying near the edge of the dance floor rather than allowing herself to be drawn onto it, choosing to remain a reserved but curious onlooker until, eventually, she decides to do something bold— for her, anyway.]

ii. the lock box

[Eventually, she decides to give the Lock Box a go in order to sate her curiosity. While she doesn't need a new bond partner, she could use a dance partner, and so after she puts her name in the box, she takes the name she's given and drifts back towards the main part of the ballroom as she unfurls the little piece of paper to read it.]

Let's see...

[Whether the name is familiar to her or not, she'll find herself steadily drawn towards that person, as the box intended. Alternatively, should someone draw her name, she'll be easy enough to find— her red hair and crimson, white-tipped wings stand out a fair bit.]

iii. the silent auction

[At first, Karin wanders into the room hosting the auction items on display while looking for a bit of a reprieve from the noise of the ballroom, but the items themselves catch and hold her attention once she arrives. While she hasn't given any thought to actually bidding just yet, she takes a tour around the room with her drink in hand and slows to stop and examine each item, admiring them. She's particularly impressed by the weapons and jewelry, and pauses in front of an especially ornate sword to lean in and take a closer look.]

These are all so beautiful... where did they all come from?

[Someone must have donated them to the cause, right?]

iv. out in the gardens

[Eventually, the desire to escape the noise and heat of the crowded ballroom— even just for a short while— leads her out into the gardens, where she makes her way towards the fountain and sits on the edge so that she can take a few minutes off of her feet and admire the lights beneath the water. She reaches up to untie the ribbons holding her mask on, removing it and letting it come to rest in her lap— she's unsure of whether or not that goes against some kind of masquerade etiquette, but after dancing and socializing among the crowd, every little bit helps in the attempt to cool down and get some fresh air.

It's been a pleasant evening, overall, especially with gatherings like these largely being outside of her realm of experience. She remembers the last time she'd seen a dance like this, and there had been no opportunity to enjoy it. She'd been a crasher, if nothing else, along with the rest of her companions, and the evening had taken a hard turn quickly afterwards. This was different, a chance to enjoy herself in a way she's never really allowed herself to do before, and she shifts to lean back with her hands to support her on the edge of the fountain so she can look up and take in the view of the stars.]

No wonder they do this every year. It really is a lovely night.
