[open] 🔶 settling in
Who: Ferran & you, feat. vegetanimals
When: Noveuer
Where: Aefenglom
What: Samuin fireworks moping, fairy dust gathering, shopping for fashion, gathering cute plants, architectural illusions & more.
Warnings: Nothing so far.
A. 1st-2nd
[The full moons finally come, and Ferran is left restless, anxious and moody, dealing with an unsettling amount of what feels like fur on his back. While it and his scales' emergence has so far been painless, it's just a further reminder of what else he might have to undergo in the future. There's so much uncertainty that no amount of research can resolve, no matter how much work he puts into it.
He's not exactly interested in celebrating the holiday he's been hearing about, or in thinking about his weaknesses, but the Samuin festivities line up with the week that frays his nerves, and he nonetheless finds himself wandering out to watch the fireworks if just to have a distraction.
By the time anyone finds him on one of Aefenglom's rooftops, he's wrapped himself in a blanket to the point only his pale, gloomy-looking face is visible. If this event is supposed to be solemn, well... he's got that in spades. Maybe try to get him to lighten up?]
B. 3rd-7th idk
[Anyone making their way through the central area of the Haven might come across a brown-haired young man standing under the entryway of a large home with the door already open, although he hasn't stepped in yet. He's got his sleeves rolled up, displaying the faint red fairy scales on his wrists and elbows, and he's carrying a coarse brush, a number of glass bottles, and a bag. He seems to be deliberating something until he notices the passerby, at which point he calls out to see if they might have some time on their hands.]
Would you mind helping me for a minute?
C. 7th-11th
[One Ferran with rainbow-swirls on his hands and the faint scales on his wrists largely missing is now ready for the most important part of getting acclimated to a new place: shopping.
With a bag of hygiene products over his shoulder, a few of them scented enough to be smelled outside their packaging, he ends up browsing several clothing shops and tailors, but he spends the most time looking into nice-looking gloves, boots with heels, and fur-lined cloaks and capes. The bridge coat he's currently wearing is certainly warm enough for the winter he's used to, but the temperatures here are dropping even further, and with his future changes, it's not exactly going to be wearable... which sucks. He likes this coat a lot! So he wants to suitable replacements that are going to last a good, long while.
To anyone nearby, he might turn to and ask:]
Do you know anything about the quality here?
D. 7th-13th
[The moment Ferran spots a vegetable creature, he feels a surge of delight that he hasn't felt in a very long time.
He must have them.
And so, he can easily be found tracking down the critters, a watering can in hand as he tries to entice them out of hiding with whistles, chittering and the classic cat whisper (TM). He's patient with all of them, even if it ends up taking half an hour for a single creature. With animals, you have to follow through in order to get things done, even if they also happen to be plants.
If anyone he comes across happens to be chasing or being overly loud trying to catch one, they'll find the brown-haired young man admonishing them.]
Are you trying to get them to make more of a mess?
[Or, he can be found later—although the look on his face isn't exactly bright, the fact that he's carrying several varieties of plant-animals in his arms, including a spinach owl sitting on his shoulder, probably gives off the impression that he really likes the things. The fact that they aren't trying to flee is a pretty good indication that it's reciprocated, too.]
You wouldn't happen to know where I can find a child-proof gate, would you?
[Does Aefenglom even have that sort of thing yet... it seems so simple, surely they do. It's worth a shot.]
E. 9th-15th
[With two bonds with witches and several monster-led classes under his belt, Ferran is certain he can do something—even if the magic that he can feel tingling under the surface isn't the solid, reliable connection to his gem, it's similar enough for him to get the idea. He also doesn't know if it'll actually be of any use, but there's no harm in trying, and he can only do so much part time work before he tires himself out.
At his expansive home in the Haven, he starts trying to glamor the outside, a wave of his hand accompanied by glittering red lights. Any passersby might see him changing something as simple as the color of the front door, all the way up to ornate, floral carvings on the outer walls, or symmetrical stained glass patterns in the windows in a myriad of colors.
It only lasts for a minute or so every time, but it's certainly a start.]
Wildcard.
[OOC: Check out Ferran's info over here, and hit me up over pm or at
lumieresdedragon and we can figure something else out, or I can write you a starter! Generally, this month Ferran can be found: researching a number of topics in available libraries, staring into space at cafes, buying groceries, and doing detail-oriented part-time work like tailoring, organizing and bookkeeping. Maybe even at your business!]

Thanks, though I haven't done much with it yet. I was surprised it was free.
[People just leaving houses around? For free? Bizarre, but he'll take what he can get. He takes a seat, setting the clear bottles down next to him for later as he readjusts his sleeves, brush in his left hand.]
That's the idea. If you could hold that bag still for me, please.
no subject
Sora nods quickly and holds the bag as instructed. He's kind of morbidly curious how this will work.]
Okay, got it. You've got a lot of fairy dust on you already.
no subject
That seems to be the case.
[How it works is simple: he brushes carefully at the translucent scales on his wrists over the open bag, and the glittering dust that's rubbed off falls into the bag. Thankfully there's not much wind for the moment, although he's sure to discover that problem later, forcing him to risk sparkly floors that are impossible to clean... Ugh. Still.]
It would be nice if this was all I had to deal with.
no subject
At least you won't have to get used to growing fur.
[Sora laughs and wiggles his ears to showcase the point. Sora's long rabbit ears are soft and brown-furred just like his brown spikes. And that's not the only place he has fur either...]
Growing scales and dust doesn't hurt, does it?
[He assumes that the fae boy is new to all this so he wants to check. A lot of Sora's monster changes were incredibly painful.]
no subject
Don't be so sure.
[If he's lucky, it won't be so widespread as the Puca, though. He keeps his focus on his task of brushing off the scales as they gradually wear away into the dust they're collecting, leaving only a faint transparent coating to indicate where they were.
He lets out a dismissive hum.] Not yet, anyway.
no subject
At least it doesn't hurt to collect up your dust, right?
[Sora smiles optimistically.]
no subject
[He's found that more of them grow in after he dusts them off, but he assumes that was going to be happening anyway. The things he has to sacrifice for easy money... but like Sora said, at least the process doesn't hurt. He sighs.]
Maybe I shouldn't be applying logic to any of this...
no subject
I guess not. You're new here, right? I'm Sora.
[Applying logic here isn't always something that can work. It's not normal for people to go through monster changes after all.]
no subject
[With one wrist brushed clean and a decent pile of dust in the bag, he shifts to start at his elbow, and the angle puts the lower end of the scar on his upper arm into view. The way no scales have grown over it makes it hard to miss.]
Knowing how everything works would help me figure out how to handle it, but... [He presses his lips together. That would be too easy.] Magic is so aggravating.
no subject
If you've got any questions about it all, I'd be happy to help!
[Sora shifts the bag so they can start collecting the second batch of fairy dust.]
I've been here for almost a whole year now. It's kind of crazy to think about it. But I've been through it all, monster changes, magic, bonds and all the rest too!
no subject
[He frowns in thought for a few moments. That seems like such a long time. He's certainly got a lot of questions, but trying to figure out what the best ones are to ask is a challenge.]
How... fast does it tend to be?
no subject
Oh! Ummm. I think it's a bit different for some monsters but mine took about half a year?
[Give or take six months depending on a few things.]
The first few months were definitely the worst ones. But it's not so bad at the end!
no subject
R-right.
[You either resign yourself to it and force yourself to think it's "not so bad" or you go mad, he's pretty sure. He doesn't know how well he's going to deal with all of it, but that kind of comes with not actually knowing what exactly is going to happen to you. The frown has yet to leave his face.]
I don't know if it sounds better or worse that it could be that long.
no subject
He tilts his head, expression softening as he reaches up to tug on one of his long brunette ears.]
I know it seems like it could be a long time. And a lot of it feels like really annoying growing pains. But in the end, I'm still me and the extra hearing and new illusion magic are handy.
[There are plus sides to being a monster!]
Plus, there are ways to help with changes too! Like having a bond with a witch or two!
[Or three. Or four.]
no subject
Having access to more magic would be handier.
[He is curious about that last statement, though. He'd known they were important for more... psychological urges, just in terms of limiting the danger. He hadn't considered other possibilities.]
How do bonds make changes easier?
no subject
Having a witch's magic in your system makes it a lot easier to deal with! It feels good!
[Gosh, that's a bit of a bold statement.]
As monsters, we can filter out witch's magic, right? If you get a constant stream of that stuff it makes the changes hurt a lot less.
[Plus magic just feels good. At least it does to Sora...]
no subject
... does it...?
[Maybe it's just because he literally only spent several hours without a bond to a witch, but he hadn't paid much attention to the sensation of magic when it came to those connections. He guesses it's kind of grounding? Like a lifeline of sorts.
He shrugs, but with his expression rather than his shoulders. He's still brushing at his elbow, after all, and he doesn't want to force Sora to move.]
Well, all the more reason to have one, if it eases that much...
no subject
[Sora adjusts the bag in his hands to make sure he's diligently collecting every single flake of fairy dust.]
Just no matter what it's a good idea for a monster to have a witch's bond. And the stronger the bond the better it is too. [He smiles.] It'll make both of you stronger! Do you have any bonds yet?
no subject
Uh, yeah.
[He hesitates a little with whether to just admit the circumstances behind them. This guy certainly seems like he'd encourage bonds as soon as possible, but after his meeting with Karin and the whole taking the commitment seriously conversation, he'd rather not just have it out there to be judged.]
I've only been here so long, though, so I don't know how strong... that kind of thing could be, yet.
no subject
It's not a big deal to take it easy too! I know it's a lot!
[It can be A LOT to deal with. Bonds can get so emotionally complicated.]
no subject
[Could someone have easily taken advantage of him when he was basically begging on the network? Absolutely. Would Ferran have followed through anyway? Probably. He got pretty lucky, as it turns out.]
How long have you known yours?
no subject
Um, well my first bondmate is from my own world so I've know him for a really long time. Probably my whole life?
[ Techincally...! ]
And my other bonds, I've had them for almost a year too! I had a few other ones but they've gone back to our world now.
no subject
A few other ones, huh...?
[Ferran would certainly call himself reckless, but he's only willing to push the envelope of linking his soul to so many people. Wasn't there something about limiting how many bonds you had...? Ah well.]
It must have been an easy choice, if you came here with someone you already knew. [Yeah you would think that, wouldn't you, Ferran...]
no subject
Haha, actually... [Time for a quick story.] He almost didn't want me to bond with him. But when I woke up in this world I found him when he was really, really sick from not having any bonds for months... So I kind of had to make him do it.
no subject
Why are people so touchy about it? I almost get it, but it's too important to avoid. [He shakes his head, brushing off the last of that elbow's dust into the bag before switching to the other hand.]
It's not like I don't have hangups about connecting my soul to somebody, but at least a bond doesn't hurt anyone.
