Octeuril catchall
Who: Mikasa Ackerman and OPEN
When: Throughout Octeuril
Where: Around Aefenglom
What: Quests and maybe end of month full moon later
Warnings: Will be added as needed. Some potential body horror for one prompt
Lawn and Order - Potential body/tooth horror
[It was easy work, which was exactly what the fae needed at the start of the month. When she was still on her crutches and recovering from the attack on Dorchacht. She was multitasking it, she earned money doing needlework where she could. This was just a bit extra. Something she could do while going about her day and letting Tater get some exercise. The little guy was happily running about darting into leaf piles and knocking them over. Enough leaves getting caught in his fur that he looked more plant that dog.
Unlike the puppy’s innocent acts of mischief. His owner was a bit more of an ass about causing trouble, as the weeks past and Morgana was dealt with the fae was able to shed her crutches. Occasionally she’d just kick up a gust of wind by flicking her wings, sending leaves flying in all directions.
Around the same time is when some might notice her grimacing. Refusing to speak to, answering with a nod or a shake of the head when she could. Her words slurring when spoken to. Until eventually a small trickle of blood leaked out of her mouth when she’d opened it to speak.]
Ah… [Time to drop her rake to cover her mouth with those chitin covered hands.]
Under New Management
a. [Even she was wincing as younger children noticed her, squealing as they realised they could play with the fae who very definitely hadn’t kidnapped them a few months before. Mikasa had visited a few times, thanking them for the gifts from when she was in the hospital. But she’d not been able to carry them or play like she had done before her leg injury.
For better or for worse. She could now ‘chase’, because it wasn’t much of a chase. Mikasa could easily catch up and scoop them up into her arms. Then there’s a clamor from them, about how they wanted to show her what they’d learned. So they had her sit, bringing out books. Simple children’s books. A young faun standing as he slowly read from the book, until he wasn’t reading.
He was verbally stumbling. Sounding out some letters, ears dipping down as he realised…There’s another few attempts. But then he’s holding the book up to the fae pointing at a bit of text that Mikasa blinks at.]
Miss Mikasa, how is this word said? [It gets another blink from her. Because it wasn’t really much of an issue normally. The words of this world were written in a strange alphabet. One completely different to the one Mikasa had been taught. She’d been trying to learn the letters for the times she had to read text that wasn’t enchanted but… Like the child, she had to sound the letters out one at a time. To the point that the boy reached out, patting her on the head.]
…It’s okay. The older kids didn’t learn to read either.
b.[The kids eventually bore of trying to learn. Dragging the fae along or attempting to by swinging on her arms. It was time to do ART. They were overjoyed to show what they could do. Scurrying about and bringing drawings over to show Mikasa who’d sat on the floor. Busting out the charcoal.
Mikasa was even talked into doodling as well. She wasn’t necessarily bad. She could do a perfect drawing of a child sat in front of her. Drawing something that wasn’t right in front of her though… She didn’t bother.
And with the art completed it was time to hang it up. The kids pointing out their previous work. The fae nodding, giving a faint smile. Squinting a little as she tried to read the strange letters this place used. But none of the children indicated who’d drawn some of the art. So after a moment, she pointed out.]
Who drew these? You’ve told me about the others… [They had and this art looked like it’d been done by the same child. One helpful puca pipes up.]
That was done by Mister Jaeger. [Bless this child, they were so happy that their new patron had taken part in drawing with them. That they didn’t notice Mikasa’s stare as she turned to look at their smiling face, then back to the art…Hmm.]
…Mister Jaeger… [Eren…She’d thought this art had been done by one of the younger ones… Only to learn it was an adult.]
Happy Hauntings?
[So after an interesting conversation with the puca, Edith. Mikasa had come to a decision.
A decision that Mildred had crossed a line. As much as Mikasa internally questioned Edith’s relationship with her husband. And why they were married to begin with if they annoyed and yelled at each other so much. The witch’s prank seemed cruel. Too cruel.
So one might notice the smell of paint before they saw the fae. Who was crouched as she painted the bottom of a door. A handkerchief wrapped around her head to stop the paint fumes from reaching her antenna. She was taking inspiration from one of Mildred’s past pranks.
Only instead of bright purple. The fae was using a neon pink with flecks of glitter.]

Hello there . . . [ pat pat— ] O-oh, no, that's fine! I really was just tired, I . . . Haven't been sleeping well since I woke up in this city.
[ she makes a face as if to say "stressful, haha". an awkward silence comes, and yachi finally picks up the courage to say something, and hopefully, it wasn't weird. ]
Anyway, I'd— I'd say nice to meet you, but . . . We've met already, haven't we-?
[ please say yes ]
no subject
Though she looks again, face downcast as she looked back at the girl's face. Was she paler than normal? Not that she knew her enough to know that.]
Yeah... I saw you in the dream. You're from that Japan place, right? [Then there's a moment, her mouth opening, closing as she wondered if she should say. But no filter.] Where they sell organs? [What a place...] Is that why you can't sleep?
[She'd imagine people from a place like that would be wary if they were penniless.]
no subject
[ that's so. freaky. she doesn't know what's freakier and tries to keep herself composed by clearing her throat and straightening her back. maybe she should take these covers off by now . . . ]
Does that . . . Usually happen, Mikasa?
no subject
She shuffled a little, taking a half-step back in case Yachi was getting out of the bed.] Not usually, but ocassionally. [She couldn't explain it, not really. She was still trying to get her head around it. And that time... It wasn't one of the normal dreams was it?
Are you sure you're alright?
no subject
[ she was sure she'd hear a no or something, but. occasionally? so it's not just a once in a lifetime event where stars align or whatever-? it's not every day you get spirited away . . . ]
—Yes! I felt like I slept for days, um. The Barracks are a little demanding. Why, am I—?
[ she gestures to her face. ]
no subject
... You didn't fall on it. I caught you before you fell. [That was what she was asking, wasn't it? If she'd gone splat and broken her nose...
But she blinks. Muttering.] Demanding? I didn't think they made you work for the rooms there?

[ suddenly she's feeling self conscious; she's so small compared to mikasa, never mind the musculature she can't see under her clothes (not that she's wondering!!!!), now it looks like she's complaining on an full stomach. first world problems were embarrassing. ]
I didn't work or anything, but— I've never slept in a public place before. I was too scared to sleep, and . . . What I meant by that was, it was stressful. B-but, it's nothing, really! I'm just, [ gestures at all of her, ] like this. Thank you for taking care of me.

Ah... [She'd remembered those days. It had been a long time since Wall Maria had fallen. But she remembered, they all did. In the first few days when the refugees had been crammed into empty grainhouses, she and the others had been so small. Small and underfoot that even to her, it had been scary. Even if they hadn't been stuck with nightmares about the titans, they'd have had trouble sleeping.
She doesn't even realise she's nodding.]
Don't worry about it. But why are you staying there? If you can't sleep?
no subject
[ she visibly wilts some, but straightens her back and expression the best she could almost immediately after. ]
This is all new, and— I don't have enough money to rent one of the houses. Even if I did, It'd be too much just for me, and . . . I don't actually, [ she cups one of her hands into another and fills her lungs with air, ] know anyone. But I'm sure If I work enough, I'll get there in no time.
[ like what she thinks mikasa has already achieved and where yachi has no room for more complaints— which might not have been the case, considering mirrorbound don't need to pay for shelter in the haven.
of all the things to miss. ]
no subject
It took her back though. To when she first arrived and needed handouts for everything. What was it Sokie had said? Mikasa couldn't remember but she got the idea.]
Um... [She got the idea. But it was easier thinking it than saying it.] You could stay... There's two spare rooms. Not as many people have been appearing recently.
[And then there was Mikasa. Not even realising she didn't know about the rent thing. She just thought she was counting food expenses and bills.]
no subject
Are you sure— If you're sure? I— [ wow, okay! ] What can I do to help you pay for things? Or around the house?
no subject
As long as you buy your food it's fine. [Honestly. She wasn't that bothered about that, just there was so much variety that Mikasa wasn't sure what to get for Yachi.] ...Oh, and make sure the chickens don't kill each other. Especially Dinner...
no subject
. . . Dinner? The chicken's name is Dinner?
no subject
The other two hadn't really done anything earn themselves a name. Nothing distinctive there.] It's only one. I'm still not sure if I want to keep it... There was more but something got into the coop before they were brought to me.
[RIP Jean's pets. At least Eren had gotten some of them out.]
no subject
Th-that's . . . That's a cute name? [ i wouldn't want to be called dinner! ] I don't have much experience with animals, but I think— Maybe I can help you out with those. Hopefully they don't need to become a meal, right?
no subject
Really? I've been told it wasn't and I'm not very good at names. He- [A small shrug at the bed where the small body of Tater was wiggling out of his blanket prison, dramatically flopping onto his belly once he was free.] Was named by the person who got me him.
[As for the chickens.] As long as they're well fed it should be fine. They only get nasty when they start fighting over food... So you have to spread it out the pen. [If the feed was in one clump, one would claim it and start yelling at the 'thieves'.]
no subject
Do you mind showing me them? Showing me around, that is.
and handwaving the rest to spare me the pain of describing house
I'm not going to tell you which is which. You'll probably be able to tell. [Aka Dinner was that much of an asshole.]
