They're memorized, but it was impossible to leave it there. Light wants to understand; he doesn't plan on being at this level for very long.

"I can't say I'm surprised." It really is a good thing he didn't mean L harm. That would have been hard to explain. "You like tests. I wasn't actively trying to pass that one, but I usually do assume you have tests waiting. That's probably the least surprising part of your work at the orphanage: you have some teaching instincts."

Though, Light does assume he's easier on the children than he was on adults. While he has no desire to join L in his work, he acknowledges kids are innocent and deserve their protection.

During his trip around the room to place the runes, Light notes that the protection is for L and Myr, meaning anyone wanted to do him harm wouldn't be barred from entry, and the defenses are people specific, not place. It's good that he has no enemies here. It's another reminder that there's no time to waste. It's not as if he lives in fear, but caution is always smart.

"I still haven't had a chance to meet Myr. I assumed he would come over more often."
