July Quests and Catch-All [OPEN]

[ 1. Sew and Tell ]

[ While Berserker can't help with the magical parts of upgrading the shop, he is strong. He's doing any grunt labor asked of him, lifting things, moving heavy objects, and holding people up to reach things. You need something carried? He's your ~~dragon~~ man.

He finishes a task to take a small break to stretch. He looks over to a coworker (or customer, he doesn't care to know the difference) and tilts his head slightly. ]

Is there something you need me for?

[ 2. Out of the City ]

[ There's a lull in the activity of the day and Berserker takes a moment to rest. He slumps down against a tree, his spear Gae Bolg resting against his shoulder. He's only doing this because he knows he's good at it -- fighting and killing is boring and routine. A sound catches his attention and he grabs his spear without getting up. ]

Do I need to stand up or did you just trip?

[ He's a jerk, sorry. ]

[ 3. Wildcard ]

[ Tony very nearly trips again as he turns to avoid stepping into the branch Berkserker mentions, just in time. He almost doesn't make it, but despite looking surprised and completely out of place in the woods, Tony does have more coordination than he appears like he should. ]

What are you doing way out here? It's dangerous.

I'm doing my job...There's just nothing for me to do right now.

[ There's no need to lie or cover up his true purpose for being out here. They needed fighters and he's good at that, even if he doesn't enjoy it. ]

I could ask the same of you. You don't look like you belong here at all.

[ Tony gives Berserker a questioning look. While he understands that the job is probably defending the city, which is something he's used to, he feels bad that apparently the warrior is standing guard out on his own. ]

I guess I don't. But none of us really belong here and we're still here, so I need to help out as much as anyone else does. I thought taking a look out here might give me some inspiration. Maybe shed some light on how to stop the diseases.

[ And putting himself at risk is totally reasonable for the sake of science. ]

Wouldn't it be safer to research it elsewhere?

[ Berserker narrows his eyes for a moment. He's used to being a solitary force, so standing guard alone is fine for now. ]

Inspiration might be infection. [ As if to punctuate this, he suddenly kills a small rodent with his spear. Aside from the fact it's dead, something seems off about its general look. ] Be careful if you go any further.

Safer? Probably.

[ Tony gives that serious thought as he answers. Charging into the unknown wood is risky, but he can't do anything else. It just takes him a minute to put to words why. ]

If I don't see it for myself, I won't be able to get a good understanding. And other people are facing danger too. I can't play it safe if you aren't going to.

[ He jumps a little when Berserker stabs the animal, but tries to look braver when he tells him to be careful. ]

I can handle it. Where do you think it's coming from?

If you're going to go anyway, at least let me come with. It's suicidal to go alone.

[ Not that he cares. Normally, he's content to let people do dumb things and face the consequences for them, but he's tired of sitting here.

He decides to answer his question honestly. ]

I don't know.

[ If Tony's so determined to go on his own, Berserker really can't just sit by. Well, he can, but it's more interesting to leave his post for now. There are other fighters posted and all that's been coming by are, at worst, infected rodents. ]

There's no one way they've been coming from, just here and there. I kill them as I see them. They're coming from further outside than here, but I can't tell you exactly where.

[ Berserker might just be offering to come along out of boredom, but Tony's expression lights up anyway. He becomes more animated, waving off the possible danger with a smile and a shrug. ]

I won't say no to the company. I don't know a lot about magic, to be honest, and it's probably a good idea to have your expertise on hand. In case things do get bad.

[ He shouldn't be that calm. And he isn't, but he's going to pretend he is. ]

If we go out and look around, we might be able to find out where they're living. That way we can look for the source.

[ That is most definitely a dangerous idea. He knows that, but he wants to do what he can and looking for the cause of the infection seems like the most expedient way to go. ]

[ This is a very bad idea, but Berserker's bored enough to go along with it. An entertaining diversion, at the very least. Tony's enthusiasm for danger reminds him of his lighter side, the true Cú Chulainn, though less on a borderline suicidal scale. A natural, if unhealthy, curiosity. ]

Then let's go. You might find the answer you're looking for. I'll make sure you don't die.

[ How...generous. ]

I appreciate that.

[ He's pretty much adopted Berserker as his new friend, whether the other man sees it that way or not. As usual, Tony just assumes the best and goes with it, barely considering how badly it could go if his company gets bored and leaves. Because he won't do that. Why would he? ]

If we do find what I'm looking for, you'll probably get a good fight out of it.

[ Always look at the positives. He leads the way, heading into the forest unarmed but pleased anyway. He catches sight of a rodent coming their way and heads in that direction, trying to see where it came from. ]

Do you do anything else? Besides guarding and fighting.

[ That's how he gets friends, really: people who refuse to leave him alone and don't listen to his (usually) empty threats. He's used to it by now and just accepts it when people decide to be his friend. ]

Not really, no. It's just what I'm good at. I don't enjoy it.

[ Not that he enjoyed anything, really. Fighting and killing became routine to the point they were boring, like doing paperwork. ]

Do you do anything besides ask questions?

[ It's a joke. He's just mean. ]

[ Well, that's an answer that immediately gets Tony thinking. If Berserker doesn't like fighting and does it because he feels like he should, he doesn't want him to do it. Tony has lived too long with obligation and feeling inadequate or unhappy to wish that on anyone else. But he doesn't say that yet. He needs time to digest this revelation. ]

I build things. Sometimes I fight super-villains and lately I've been promoting a new start-up company I'm starting, but mostly I ask questions.

[ Even if Berserker weren't joking, Tony takes to the question like it's natural. He's used to people questioning his abilities and being more annoyed than accepting of him. ]

What do you like to do? Any secret hobbies?

[ Inquisitive types are usually the ones most unafraid to bother him. Moderately annoying, to say the least. At least Tony isn't too much of a thorn in his side, unlike some other people he knows. His questions are harmless, for the most part. ]

Then this place must be fascinating and frustrating for you. You have plenty to ask but no answers.

[ Ah...That's a question he feels like the other man won't like the answer to. ]

I don't like to do anything.

[ Unless you count the need to collect bones. That's not really a hobby nor does he particularly enjoy doing it. His existence is kind of depressing, really! ]

[ Tony has already decided he needs to help Berserker find a different path. Adopting strangers isn't unusual for him, and while it doesn't always work out, he still wants to help as many people as he can. It's worth trying. ]

There are answers. We just need to look hard enough to find them.

[ There are always answers. That's what he believes, anyway. He gives Berserker a thoughtful look. ]

Have you ever gone out for pizza?

[ Good luck with that, he's extremely stubborn and very broken. Getting him to do something different is like pulling teeth. Berserker will tell him to stop on occasion, but probably won't do anything more than that to push him away. ]

If you say so. Since you're the one seeking them, you're more likely to find them.

[ He's content to accept things as they come without questioning why. He's barely questioned his own transformation, so why question anything else? ]

No, I haven't. I never needed to eat before now...Not since I was actually alive.

[ That was over a millennia ago, so it's been awhile. Not that he ever actually existed in the first place. Alter Servants are confusing and weird. ]

[Tony accepts the answer without complaint, because Berserker is right that he is the one who wants the answers. Having the other man come along is just a nice bonus and he'll gladly take that without thinking too deeply into his motives. He just trusts in Berserker's good nature, something he assumes is their despite the flat tone and deadpan delivery.]

But you should have it anyway. You might not need to eat, but that's part of the fun.

[Yup, he needs a friend. This is Tony's new assessment of him.]

I bet if you tried it, you'd actually enjoy it.

[He pushes his way through some of the brush as he talks, a little less efficiently than he really could be about it. Tony isn't great out in the wilds.]

Don't you ever... not want to do what you always do? I understand it's your responsibility, but sometimes everyone needs a vacation.
