( It's been a couple of weeks since Aqua had gone feral and searched frantically for Sora. If Demyx hadn't been there to put a stop to it, she isn't sure how much havoc she would have caused - or who she would have hurt. She owes him a lot, to put it lightly. It wasn't just then, though. It feels like they had spent more time together lately than she could have imagined before.

In the short time that they've been here, they've become allies - no, more than that - they've become unlikely friends. During her training, she never would have even imagined that she would befriend someone who had even formally sided with Darkness.

But, it's not just that. Aqua has something to ask him. With Kairi gone, it feels like there's a strange sort of emptiness there. It isn't just the fact that Aqua's missing her friend - there's a bond that's just gone. It... almost feels like a part of her is missing, strangely enough.

During one October afternoon, she finds herself knocking at the door to his room. She has something to say - and something to ask. )

_{[Truth be told, Demyx hasn't been sure how to take the new shift in the house since... well, since Kairi disappeared. He wasn't as close to her as some of the others, but her absence left him feeling a little "off". It wasn't anything major, but it was enough to leave him feeling a little uneasy - as if he'd had a patch of scales that flaked off, leaving a part of him bare and exposed.

(Nevermind the fact that he did have a few missing on his back, but this was more emotional than physical.)

The knock to his door abruptly pulls him out of his thoughts, as well as pulling his attention from his task at hand. That too, wasn't anything serious.]}

S'open!

_{[He's got his arm soaking in a tub of water, which... would totally explain why he can't open the door himself. Merrow things, you know?]}

( It does indeed feel emptier. The house is quiet, lonely even. With Riku and Kairi both gone, there's an emptiness that doesn't quite feel replaceable. That isn't to say that Aqua isn't happy that they went home, mind you. Her friends are now able to search for Sora - to find their own happy ending.

Taking the invitation to enter, Aqua opens the door, stepping inside and closing it behind her.

When she finds Demyx, she can't help but stop in her tracks. )

I'm sorry. Am I interrupting anything?

Nah, just, uh...

_{[He twists around, looking a little sheepish - it's evident with the light hint of pink coloring the very tips of the fins on his ears, turning them a shade of... purple? It's close enough to purple, anyway.]}

Seasons're changing, so it's doing weird stuff to my scales. I don't wanna dunk myself in the tub right now, so...

_{[Demyx tilts his chin to the bucket, laughing a little. Buckets.]}

What's on your mind?

( Aqua watches the way that his fins change, and it's... a little endearing, to say the least. Her wings twitch a little at that, giving a small flutter as she makes her way to him, sitting next to him. )

Do they hurt?

( She can't help but ask. With how it's been growing colder, it'd make sense if it did. She doesn't intend to ignore his question at all, however. )

Nuh-uh.

_{[He says it with a slow shake of his head, yellow eyes flicking towards her wings when he sees them move a little. Part of him wonders if it's because she's cold, but that's... pretty obvious, isn't it? She's a dragon. A dragon with ice powers.

Of course she'd be cold, genius, he tells himself. Really, it's probably just something that happens.]}

They're kinda... It's like an itch you can't scratch.

I think I understand. ( Aqua begins softly. )

The heat does the same to my wings. ... I've grown so used to the cold, that summer doesn't feel like it used to.

( She's naturally cold at this point in time. Though, it doesn't bother her. Ice magic has always been her specialty, after all.

But... talking about this isn't why she's here. She goes quiet for a moment, her expression growing more serious before she speaks again. )

... Demyx. I wanted to thank you for before. It was because of you that I was able to change back.

_[Oh.]

Oh! Er, uh... Don't worry too much about it, yeah? I...

_{[He reaches up with his dry hand to rub at the side of his neck, mindful of his gills. This sort of thing was still uncharted waters (ha), but... He's trying. He's really, really trying. Hearts? They're weird. Especially when they're fragments that came from another person.]}

I can't speak dragon or anything, but... You sounded like you were hurting. You looked like you were. I'm... uh, I'm not really good when it comes to fighting or anything icky like that, but I could at least hang back and be, uh. Moral support. 'n I wanna think we're friends, so... It's what friends do, right? They look out for each other?

( For only a second or so, Aqua tenses up, shifting almost uncomfortably as her wings fold against her back. She's always someone who's tried to stay strong - for her own sake, and the sake of others. It's the first time that someone's said something like that to her - at least, since she's left the Realm of Darkness. )

... A while back, Ven was kidnapped. He was hurt so much. I didn't want the same to happen to Sora.

( Her hands fall into her lap, avoiding Demyx's gaze for a moment before she looks back to him. )

We are friends. ( She responds, her expression softening. ) And when the time comes - I'll do what I can to be there for you, too.

From what I figure, s'only a matter of time before you gotta do that.

_{[And now he looks a little sheepish, his gaze dropping to his arm still submerged in the water. If he turns it a bit, the near-black scales on his hands almost shimmer a shade of purple and blue, so he just sort of... does that to distract himself for a hot second.]}

You turned into a dragon even with a bond. I don't wanna imagine what I'm gonna look like when I go wild, 'cause, er...

_{[Bonds??? What are those??]}

( Aqua stops at that, eyes widening slightly in surprise. )

Demyx, you don't have a bond yet?

( He's been here for a while... that could be dangerous if he doesn't take care of that soon. Is he against having a bond like Vanitas was, or is it for another reason entirely? )

N--Huh? Wait, what's that look for?

_{[His gills flare in alarm for a fraction of a second, and he yanks his arm out of the water with enough force to splash himself in the face. A few patches darken into scales, but they start to (albeit slowly) fade when he wipes the droplets away with his other arm.]}

L-Look, I know it's probably not a good thing, but it's... er. I dunno?

( She shakes her head. )

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to look at you strangely.

( She pauses for a moment. She has an idea, but... she's not quite sure how he might take it. She bites her lower lip before speaking. )

... With Kairi gone, I only have a bond with Ven now. If you want - you and I could share one.

( She wants to be able to bond with Terra, should he come here - so... she's limited herself to how many people she's bonded with. )

_{[man, kairi... he still feels bad about all of the nonsense he helped put her through back in the first organization days.]}

Yeah, I... heard about that. How're--

_{[wait.

wait wait wait wait. did he... his fins perk up for a minute, brows furrowed as he tilts his head once... he just heard her right, yeah? did she really--]}

H-Hang on, uh... say that again?

( For a moment, Aqua can't help but wonder if she asked something strange. )

I... wanted to know if you wanted to bond with me. It's alright if you don't want to.

You... wanna bond? With me?

_{[hooooo boy, here's that awkward side coming out swinging in full force!!]}

Er... Y-You're sure you want it to be me?

( Somehow, the question makes her all the more nervous - her heart jumping a bit before she speaks once more. )

Well... of course. We're friends, Demyx.

I-I know, but I... mean.... Aren't you worried about...

_{[he gestures to himself - all of him, but he lingers around his eyes more than anything.]}

I mean, I'm not exactly the "freshest fish in the market". N-Not my words! Someone down by the harbor said it!

_{[u kno. the whole. xehanort thing.]}

( So, that's what he's worried about... she can understand, but...

That's... a rather peculiar way to put it, though. )

Demyx, he doesn't have any control over you here. You've shown that the entire time you've been here.
