It should be long enough to warm the water and melt most of the ice so spells and wards can be placed around the edges and the inside of the pool itself. [Which is her suggestion for what to do to make sure it doesn't crust back over again.] That's what I've been doing to my garden, and it's kept it free of snow so far. [But it's also been draining her mana, which leaves her less for other things, though she's not complaining.
